The Flower Garden

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
After reading this review, I called this vendor to have something special created for my family. He only charged $40 for a center piece and my mother was so happy to receive it later that day. He added persimmons to the center piece and my Japanese mother was so surprised as this is very much a symbol of fall in Japan. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful show piece for our family's special event.

Cathy's Bakery

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
Of all the Chinese bakeries I tried, this one actually had an English speaker. BTW, do not go to Kee Wah...probably the worst bakery I have ever gone to. Anyway, Mary is so darling, but it was still difficult to communicate with her fully. I would normally have preferred a Japanese bakery however, this one is a fraction of the price. The cake is $340 for 120 people and since the wedding is close by there is no delivery fee. After the wedding people told me they had two pieces of cake because it was that good. I only had a few bites, but it was DELICIOUS! communication- B taste- A+

Alicia's Formal & Tuxedo Shop

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I was recommended to Alicia by a trusted family friend who owns a bra shop and has her own seamstress (I would have asked her to do it, but she was getting old and not wanting to do that kind of intricate work.) Alicia is affordable. She made my veil for $35 and bustled and hemmed my wedding gown for about $125. My sister went in with her bm dress which was way too tight on her. Alicia was able to pull the dress out beautifully and even gave my sister a train since she was the moh.

Kelly Paper Store

( 3.0 / 5.0 )
Overall, I was expecting something more. They didn't have a good selection of flat cards. I also noticed that even though I was looking through the same company's paper, the color between the envelopes and paper were noticeably different. Thus, I chose to stick with the prepackaged flat cards with inner and outer envelopes by Williamhouse. Those were moderately priced. I also bought prepackaged blank thank you cards for about $13.00 by Paramount. They didn't have small invitation inserts so I had to make a separate trip to Paper Source in Pasadena to purchase them. I wish this place had more invitation things. Unfortunately, the pre-made invitations are heinous. Don't expect too much from this store. For what I purchased, I feel like I got a good deal. However, I can't say that I am 100% pleased with my DIY invitations. If I could have done this process over again, I would have just purchased them from a designer.

When I initially went to this catering company it was still under Duxbury. A few weeks before the wedding the company was handed to Simply Elegant Catering. I was a little upset/confused since I hadn't met with the new catering guy until 1 week before the wedding. Thankfully, he seemed even more organized than Mark. Mark was not too knowledgable about color schemes and I felt like he didn't do that great of a job. The new guy, Mike, is amazing. He has been in the catering busy for over 20 years. He even let me do another taste testing sine Mark "forgot" to write down in my folder what I had tried (of course, I had forgotten since I had done my tasting one year in advance). The day of was gorgeous. Everything was even more beautiful than I had imagined. There was only one kind of obnoxious motherly waitress who tried to stuff food down my throat, but other than that all of the bartenders and waiters were accommodating. The food was superb (but the cucumber salad tasted a little different than what I thought it would be). My friends said that they ate everything on their plates. I guess it wasn't the typical "wedding food" you normally get. I was also able to negotiate about the alcohol price. I had bought wine and champagne from bevmo to offset the cost of the alcohol price per person. For a full bar, we paid only $14 per person. That was a real deal considering that our guests took it to their full advantage.

Colorado Beauty Salon

( 2.0 / 5.0 )
I heard about this place through my sister's friend who is Korean. I think you may have more luck if you speak Korean. I went here for a trial for my hair and it turned out ok. I still felt like it was pretty difficult to communicate with her. The only reason why I went was because she is cheap. For an updo it's $25 except that she only spends about 25 minutes and doesn't wash your hair. On the day of the wedding, she did a nice job on my hair, but did an awful job on my bm's hair. We should have saved money and time and just done it ourselves. It was nothing special. All she did for them was a half up half down. However, we had asked her to do a low bun for all of them. I don't know how it turned into a bunch of curls half down. I was pretty upset about it, and the girls didn't seem thrilled either. I felt so badly, that I paid for the girls.

Alexandra Margulies

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I got Alexandra's name from a friend. She is so nice and her style is impeccable. I was so impressed with her portfolio that I booked her on the spot. She even came over to my house, met me at the site, and was the best vendor I had and the only one who got a tip besides hair and makeup. She is prompt on emails and personable. I think she said that she a freelancer for Mark's Garden...if you don't know is the company that does all celebrity weddings such as Brittany spears, tori spelling, travis from blink, etc. Her's the breakdown. 1 Bride Bouquet 1 Maid of Honor Bouquet 3 Bridesmaids Bouquets 8 Boutonnieres 2 Large Planters with Pedestals for Ceremony 1 Small Bar Arrangement 19 Table Centerpieces cake decorating- $50 ribbon $200 The total was about $2300

JJ Bakery

These cakes are both delicious and affordable. However, I chose Cathy's Bakery since they are about the same and it's cheaper. A cake for 150 people is about $300.

Davids Bridal

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I never thought I would enter a david's bridal, let alone purchase my dress there. I'm no longer a hater. It ended up being a great place. I was in the store for about 20 minutes and the first dress I tried on was the one I purchased. You should definitely ask about their sales. I could have waited a little longer for the price to go down by 20%. I'm not complaining though since it was only $375. Many people complimented it and were surprised that it was from david's bridal. Several people thought the dress was around $1000.

I just booked Leigh in a mad dash. There was another bride for the same day and I had been thinking about booking her for awhile. I basically had to make a decision in a matter of hours. I don't regret it. She is very thorough and replies to emails promptly. I'm sure her pictures will be gorgeous (as they always are) and I'll post them later on. Her blog is also fun to read. She was a very take-charge kind of a photographer who got everyone into formation for the group shots. Her photographs are artistic and breath-taking. Her second photographer was so nice and I felt like they worked well together.

Awesome Entertainment

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
I received this dj's information from duxbury catering. I decided to choose a more low-key dj who didn't interfere too much with the party. Keith did a great job and is one of the cheaper dj's that awesome entertainment offers, but still an arm and a leg. Keith is personable and really fun. The only problem was at our last meeting when I felt like he had brushed off a question I had asked. Overall, it was a minor minor hiccup. He kept the party moving and everyone had an amazing time. He was also a great mc. They really are expensive...I think I paid $1500 for 6 hours. Maybe, that's reasonable, but others said they paid less for just as good a service. I don't regret it, but I would have gone with someone cheaper if I could have done it over.
