wedding alterations by Mahtab
Mahtab put a simple bustle in my dress and steamed it. She is so sweet and does a great job. I came back to her a week after I dropped the dress off because I was freaking out that it wasn't going to fit me on the top and she had me try it on again, this time without the padded bra I had and it was wonderful. She reassured all my silly bridal fears. She even steamed my Mom's dress for free on the spot when I came to pick mine up a week before the wedding. I can't recommend her enough!

The cake was delicious! (Lemon cake with raspberry jam filling) Cakery Bakery made a special design for me thats not something they normally do. They even showed me how the spikes on my cake would look in buttercream (theyre usually done in meringue) so that I could see if Id be happy with it before I booked with them. The cake was on-time, just how I wanted it to look and I cant rave about them enough. Great company!

When I first met with Kerim we instantly clicked and I was so excited about my flowers. I felt like I was getting a good amount of flowers for the price and he had some great ideas. The trouble started as time went on. When we went to see our centerpiece mock-up we were very disappointed. First of all, he used pink roses in it instead of purple because the flower mart had not had any pretty purple ones and while that's not his fault, it was difficult to visualize what it would actually look like without the right colors. It was also a very odd share and my Fiance and I tried to work with Kerim to make it look more like what we had in mind. As we tried different things with the mock-up Kerim seemed to get very frustrated and when his next appointment knocked on the door an hour later he let them in and completely ignored us. He didn't even say goodbye. He just stopped talking to us about our centerpiece in the middle of the discussion. The next meeting, about a month I believe before the wedding, we were talking about the votive cones that we were putting led candles in. He had promised to coat them in wax but was now showing us a sample that was only 1/2 covered in wax. It looked terrible and he explained that he didn't think it was a big deal. We compromised by using crushed white glass in the votive holders along with the led candles. (I must say, I loved this and it was his idea!) I felt like he was constantly balking at my ideas when we met with him. I'd tell him what I wanted and he'd tell me that he didn't think it would look good etc. While I appreciated the guidance I ended up feeling that I had to go with his vision and not mine. The day of the wedding had it's good points and it's bad. I had explained to Kerim numerous times that I was worried about him being late and that there would be extra traffic on the way to my venues. He was supposed to stop at the hotel to give the boys their bouts first and then come to the wedding site. He called 1/2 hour after he was supposed to be at the hotel saying he was running late (and he called me not my coordinator even though he had her number) and said he'd meet the boys at the wedding site. I had wanted pictures of the boys with their bouts at the hotel so this ruined this plan. He was then an hour late to the hotel. My amazing hair/make-up artist stayed there longer than planned just so she could still put the flowers in my hair. The bouquet arrived with different purple flowers in it then we had discussed. I had given him a picture of the purple flowers I wanted and these were not them. Close, but not quite. My biggest disappointment came when I saw the bridesmaids bouquets. I had given him pictures of round bouquets with white calla lilies and we had discussed him putting light green accents in the maid of honors and light purple accents in the bridesmaids. The bouquets he brought were long stalks of flowers, not round at all. And the Maid of Honors accent color (which filled more of the bouquet than anything white) was bright pink/purple. Not the right color at all (and he knew what the color was because he was providing the linens in the right color). I honestly hated the bridesmaids bouqets. I will say that the ceremony arch and centerpieces were beautiful and just what I wanted. He really pulled through on those. I can't compliment them enough. Because they were late, however, his assistant was scattering rose petals out of an old cardboard box down the aisle while guests were already seated. This did not look good and it took away from the site. Lastly, we had asked him to decorate this wooden arch that was above the cake table with some greenery and amaranthis. We showed him pictures of the arch and we paid $50 for this and it was never done. I emailed him several times about it when I returned from the honeymoon asking for my $50 back and he replied back to me once about something else but never got back to me on this question. He never even answered why there was nothing on the arch. In the end, some of the flowers were very pretty but some of it just wasn't what I wanted. The stress of him being late on the wedding day after I'd begged him not to made me very upset. I found him to be more emotionally inveseted in his design than invested in doing what the client wanted. I can recommend Kerim if you really stay on top of him and you have no vision for your flowers and can let him take over but otherwise I think you should look elsewhere.

Sherry and her assistant (whose name I sadly cant remember) were amazing. My trial with Sherry was okay but after I got home I felt it was too heavy. I emailed her several times to make changes and she was very receptive. On the day-of she was on time, set up quickly, and did an amazing job. I loved my hair and make-up and got so many compliments. She even stayed after she was done to wait for my florist to show up with the flowers for my hair. Her assistant did all of the Mothers and bridesmaids hair and they all loved what she did. These two girls are amazing and I highly recommend them!!!

I worked with Chris and Alicia at Truly Yours and have pro and cons to going with them. Pros: The prices are great. Their prices include all waitstaff, tables, chairs, settings, etc. and I was even able to rent my generator, dance floor, and shuttles through them. It was great to have a one stop shop like that. I also thought the food was amazing! I got many compliments. He was also willing to work with me when I wanted a special chocolate dipping bar and he created a special set-up just for my wedding. They were on time and set-up up everything beautifully. The reception looked great! They didnt tear down anything before the party was completely over and I appreciate that. The waitstaff was so friendly! The looked nice were able to laugh and have a good rapport with my guests. Cons: Chris and Alicia can both be a little scatter-brained and I had to remind them of things several times. Alicia was supposed to get me the set-up the week before the wedding so that I could label it with table numbers and how many settings needed to be at each table. She never sent it (luckily I gave a drawing to my doc) and the day before the wedding she calls me to tell me shes emailing it and wanted to know if I could fax it back to her. I told her I was on my way to my rehearsal dinner and shed have to work with my doc. Why she called me and not my doc in the first place is beyond me. I also explained to Chris before the wedding that I wanted my photographer and videographer to be served their food before the guests so that they would be done eating by the time my guests were served and we were going around to the tables. Chris refused to do this. I just dont understand the mind of a caterer who will not do what the bride and groom wish for no other reason than he just doensnt think thats the way it should be done. I also heard from some of my guests afterwards that the waitstaff was clearing half-eaten plates and drinks that only had a few sips taken out of them. When my guests would go to the bathroom theyd come back to find their plate gone. The last major issue I had with them was that I had a 100 person cake and 67 guests however many of my guests (two whole tables) said they never got any cake. I dont understand what happened. From the pictures it looks like they were just cutting the slices way too big. Honestly, I found Chris and Alicia to be a pain to work with (Alicia more so than Chris) but I couldnt beat the pricing they offered for the quality of food/rentals I was getting.

This is the hardest review to write. When I met with Karri I instantly loved her and my FI and I clicked with her. She was helpful in the beginning answering emails quickly suggesting vendors for me (she suggested my DJ whom I loved!). About two months before my wedding Karri let me know that a family emergency came up and Courtney would be taking over as my doc but she would still be working with me on the timeline and everything else. (This is fine, I know what the emergency was, and I totally understand her not being able to do my wedding). I met with Courtney so I could get to know her and I liked her. She seemed a little high strung but I thought they could be helpful on the day-of to get my vendors going. She said shed work with my on a rental list, etc. I never received the rental list that she promised me. When Karri and I were working on the timeline wed send drafts back and forth to each other. Sometimes it took a long time in between drafts and sometimes I thought the timing was a bit off but we finally got it down to a version that worked beautifully. When the timeline was done I was emailing with Courtney and she said that shed be at the wedding around 1pm. (I was getting there at 9am and other vendors were arriving at 11am and noon). When I told her that I really wanted her there by 11am she said she had to work that morning but that shed try. This really upset me since I was paying a lot of money for her to be there on the day-of and I expected her to be there the whole day-of. I spoke to Karri about it and she spoke to Courtney and Courtney was there by 11am. Courtney picked up much of my wedding stuff the week of the wedding and stored it for me so I didnt have to deal with it. I really appreciated that. On our final walk-through Chris said he needed to speak to Courtney about something privately (a surprise for me I assumed). As I walked away so I wouldnt hear Courtney said Dont worry, I wont let him mess up your wedding. I know she was trying to be funny but it made me mad that she referred to it as my wedding since I felt that it really was Chriss wedding too. On the day of everything flowed pretty smoothly considering that my florist ran late and I had a very difficult venue. There were just a few things that upset me. First of all, I had given Courtney reserved seating signs for family at the ceremony and written on the back of each one exactly what seat it was supposed to go on. I had even clarified which side I meant by right side etc. with her so shed know exactly where they went. On the day of she switched the sides of them because (as she told my Mom) the brides family is supposed to sit on the same side as the bride. I didnt want it this way because I wanted my family to sit on the opposite side of me so they could see my face and visa versa. When my Mom told her that I had done it the opposite was at rehearsal (I ran my own rehearsal because Courtney couldnt be there) she said that that just wasnt how it was done. This made me the most mad. I had also given her my something blue (a pin my brother had bought me) and she said shed make sure that it got onto my bustle after the ceremony. It never did and I found it in my leftover wedding supplies that I took home after the wedding. Im also not sure what happened to my piece of cake that was sitting on my sweetheart table but I never got to eat it and it was boxed up for me to take home in the box I provided to her. This could have been the caterers fault though. I had gone over the order of the toasts several times with Karri on the timeline but on the day-of Courtney did them backwards. When she told my MOH that she was up first and my MOH said that she was supposed to be last (because of severe stage fright) Courtney told her that we were changing it. I had put them in that order for a reason and there was no reason to change it. Lastly, at the end of the night we were loading up the shuttles with the stuff that needed to go back to the hotel Courtney complained to me about how the drivers of the shuttles didnt want to work and they were arguing about who was going back to the hotel with me. Im not sure what was going on but either way, I feel like the DOC should never complain to the bride. It stressed me out and I shouldnt have had to hear about it. All of that being said, I know that Courtney did a lot for me on the day-of. She kept the activities on time and I didnt have to pay attention to what was coming up next. I know how hard day-of coordination is and I appreciate everything she did for me.

Gina and Mike did our engagement pictures on the USC campus. Gina was great at responding to emails and her and Mike were very nice on they day of. They showed up on time and really seemed to be excited about the different shots they were finding. They're both very easy-going people. We spent about 3.5 hours shooting (they were doing this for us for free since they were just starting out their business). They had a slideshow of pictures about 25 pictures up by the next week and sent me a CD of the images that they had edited about 2 weeks after that. Unfortunately, I never got more than those 25 or 30 pictures. And most of those pictures are nice but there are only a few really nice ones. A lot of the images were far away or shot from the side etc. so you couldn't really see our faces. I asked Gina about the other pictures (some of which I was really excited about) and she said that they hadn't come out well. When I asked her to send them anyway, she said that she had deleted them already. I really don't know how normal engagement photo shoots go but 25-30 pictures, not all of which are great, seemed like very few to me. However, Gina did seem to have a very creative eye and I do love a few of the pictures. I appreciate them doing the shoot for free and I encourage anyone to check out their website. Follow up clarifications: 1) I meant to type 2.5 hours and did not realize that I had typed 3.5 hours and I apologize. We began shooting shortly after 3pm and I didn't leave them until about 5:30 pm. This is what I remember. Gina says that we actually started shooting about 3:30 and stopped at about 5:15 and she may be right. I don't recall the exact times. 2) 25-30 was an estimate, it may have been slightly more. 3) A few of the "up-close" shots are blurry in some way. One of my favorites has my Fiance in clear focus but I am out of focus. This was only meant to be a fair review of this vendor and I do not intend to encourage anyone to not go with these photographers. They are new at this and you can tell from their website that they are getting better each time. There were some pictures I was very happy with and I sincerely encourage anyone to look at their website.

When I called BBJ Linen to place my order they were sweet and quick to fax me the order request. When I requested the celadon lamour napkins with a celadon back (not a cream backing) like it says they have on their website I ran into some problems. They had trouble finding these at their warehouse and it took them 4 days to let me know that they had them. Then they faxed me a paper that listed my order and the price but said my order wasnt finalized yet. When I called to find out what was going on they said it was finalized and not to worry about it. In the end, they did show up on time and they were what I had ordered. They were easy to ship back and reasonably priced. I give them a B because when I would call to check on what was going on they representative was very rude and acted like I was such a burden for trying to order through them.

These guys were great to work with. They even let me come in and record a song of theirs so that I could learn my first dance to it. They were on time, professional, and sounded great. Marg gave me terrific song advice and they recommended my trumpet player. They rehearsed before the wedding day with my trumpet player at no extra charge and I couldnt have been happier. These are really a sweet bunch of people!

I can not say enough wonderful things about my DJ. He was my favorite vendor! He met with us twice before the wedding and had great suggestions for the timeline of events. Any songs that I gave him on my must play list he either had or he bought with no charge to me. He was not able to play the one song we had given him a cd of on the day-of, something had apparently happened to the cd so that it wouldnt play, but I wont hold that against him. He played a good mix of music and read the crowd well. If one song didnt get a lot of dancers he instantly reworked his song choices. My guests enjoyed themselves and so did I. Although I didnt hear many of the songs I had requested I wont fault him for that because we had told him that wed rather he read the crowd than play the music we had requested. He was not cheesy and did not force any guests to dance or play random games. He was classy and everyone loved him!

My pictures are absolutely stunning! I get several compliments on them every day and I couldnt be happier with them. Christine has a great personality and was a joy to work with on the day of. She is also easily reachable by email and phone and met with us several times to go over details. She has quite the eye for details and pretty shots and Im so happy we went with her. The only complaint I have is that on the day of she had the wrong family list (I had met with her the week prior and we had painstakingly gone over the family shot list) and we didnt get all the right pictures, but honestly, were only missing a few. We also ran out of time in the group pictures and missed some that I had on my must-take list. However, that being said, Im still thrilled that we went with her because my pictures are gorgeous!

Ben was easy to work with and showed up on time to all our meetings and on the day of. He was fun to be around the day of and didn't get in the way at all. His prices are very reasonable and we are very happy with the finished product. Ben does a great job with incorporating a dance sequence into the final video and our highlights reel is amazing! I would recommend Ben to any bride!
