Abby played violin at our ceremony this past summer. She was wonderful. As our guests were seated, she was willing to play exactly what we wanted, or said she could just play a variety of classical tunes, so I trusted her to play whatever she chose. When I asked that a somewhat obscure song be played while I walked down the aisle, she had no problem accommodating my request! Her playing was so beautiful, I had to take an extra deep breath before walking down the aisle because I was nearly moved to tears. I think her fee is really reasonable for what you get. You can also add other musicians if you want an ensemble. She was prompt, professional, and played beautifully. I couldn't ask for more! Highly recommend.

Jessica was a great violinest and Abby was a breeze to work with throughout the planning stages. I'd picked out the music months in advance during a face-to-face meeting with Abby, and she kept great notes and had the exact segments of each song notated so Jessica could perform exactly what we anticipated.

Abby and her musicians were wonderful to work with and provided extra attention-such as practicing with the vocalists and providing cd's for them. The music at the wedding was some of the most beautiful I have ever heard and I have had some many great comments from our guests who also enjoyed it.

Abby was wonderful! She was very flexible when we changed our minds on our music selections. She played several songs for us to hear, all which were beautiful. Her suggestions were great and we used several!! We requested a completely random song, and she knew it without sheet music and just began playing...just goes to show her talent and love for the music. We also requested another song that she was unfamiliar with and she was able to locate the music, learn the song, and play it beautifully for the ceremony. We thought she was very professional and the cost was very reasonable. We were very pleased with Abby and would highly recommend her!

Abby was terffic. She did a sampling of several classical selections for us to listen to which helped us to pick the music we wanted for our ceremony. She played the violin so beautifully that if it was the only instrument comprising our ceremony music, it would have been perfect by itself. I would highly recommend her services. You won't believe how good her music sounds until you hear it for yourself. She was by far the least expensive musician we found after priceshopping and I couldn't imagine someone being as talented or as professional.

I have been a fan of Abigail Nixon's music for years! I recently attended a wedding where she played "Such Great Heights" by Iron and Wine and transcribed it for violin music. It depends on the type of location at which your wedding or reception takes place: Solo violin or a duo is well-suited to a smaller church or garden wedding, or a location where carrying music stands or larger instruments would be a challenge. Trios or quartets are a better choice if you have a larger wedding or for a reception, as the sound is much fuller and carries better. It also depends on what kind of music you want played--for instance, a pop song sounds much better with two or more players as you can cover both the vocal line and the accompanying music.
How many pieces should I select for the ceremony?
If you have a lot of favorites that you would like performed, the prelude is the best place to showcase your music selections. Be careful of trying to fit too many songs into the ceremony itself. Transitions are much smoother if you use one piece for the entrance of the parents, groomsmen, bridesmaids, flower-girls, etc., to eliminate confusion for both the musicians and the wedding party. Also, it takes much less time than you think for everyone to walk down the aisle. If you choose fewer songs you will get to hear more than just a snippet of the piece. If you would like more pieces in the ceremony, ask that they be played a few minutes before the ceremony begins or for the sand ceremony or communion.
How do I decide what music should be played at the wedding?
My free consultation makes this a simple process--we set up a meeting so that you can actually hear me play samples of the pieces to give you a better idea of what you would like to hear at your wedding. I also have many clients who prefer to leave the specific music selection up to me, merely specifying a general atmosphere or sound that they want me to create (i.e: a traditional classical sound, or an upbeat song selection, etc.). If a consultation is not convenient for you I can also provide you with a list of the more popular wedding selections and links for you to listen to online.
Can you also play for the cocktail hour or the reception?
Absolutely. Often this is both more convenient and more cost-effective for you than hiring a completely different set of musicians for the after-ceremony music. Once you have paid the initial fee for the first hour, I charge a considerably lower hourly fee for every additional hour booked.
What if I want you to play something that is not included in your repertoire?
My repertoire list is intended as a helpful guideline. If you have a special request, just ask! Often the music can be easily acquired; an additional fee may be applied if I have to purchase the music or re-write it for the particular ensemble you have hired. Also, if you want something completely unique or personalized, you have the option of commissioning a completely original song or piece--no one else will ever have that song performed at their wedding! This service is available at an additional fee and must be requested at least two months before the wedding.
Do you require a deposit or can I pay you on site?
I require a 50% deposit upon contracting my services, but you can wait until 2 weeks before the day of your contracted event to pay me the balance. This gives you one less thing to think about on your big day as paying the musicians will be the last thing on your mind during the confusion before and after the ceremony!
Are you willing to travel?
Travel is included at no additional cost for sites within 70 miles of Jacksonville. I charge a modest travel fee for mileage above that or for remote locations that require more than a 90 minute drive.
