Allen Entertainment has provided services for our company for over 5 years. He is dependable and professional and always goes the extra mile to make our events fun and entertaining. He is an excellent speaker and is great getting the crowd motivated to participate. Mr. Allen has performed several services for us including providing music for our events as well as being the master of ceremonies for our graduation events. Mr.Allen also helped coordinate the game section of our Luaus and other functions.

Matt Allen with Allen Entertainment is a great DJ. He plays a wide variety of music and honors any requests made. He is able to play music according to the people attending the event so that everyone had a great time. I would highly recommend using Allen Entertainment for your wedding, or any other event that you may need entertainment and DJ services.

Matt Allen is a true professional DJ in every sense. He has DJ'd several weddings at my venue, Maison De Tours, always to the delight of the guests. His music is great, his equipment is excellent and his light show just takes it one notch higher. Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
I accept special requests by the Bride & Groom during the planning of the reception, as well as from guests during the event. I am constantly "reading" the crowd and adjusting my playlist accordingly so that everyone is enjoying the dance floor!
What is your usual attire?
I usually wear a button down dressy shirt with slacks and dress shoes. If requested, I will be happy to add a tie and coat. Events where I am a Master of Ceremonies, I usually wear a tuxedo or suit
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
I have most songs already but if a song is pre-requested and I don't happen to have it, I can get it at no add'l cost to the client. If it happens to be something very rare or not legally downloadable, I am happy to accept the client's CD or MP3.
How many other DJs do you work with?
I don't use interns or inexperienced staff. When you go with Allen Entertainment, you get the talent and pro experience of DJ Matt Allen. I am friends with many radio DJ's and mobile DJ's. Although I have never had to miss a gig because of an illness or other circumstances, you can rest assured that IF a substitute DJ was ever required for me, it would only be a pro DJ up to my standards.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
Most wedding receptions are 4-6 hours. I have a 3-hour minimum requirement.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Yes. Many of my customers book me based on my reputation and through personal recommendations. I offer a Free Bridal Consultation. Probably around 75% of my customers book me well in advance and then do the consultation about 30-60 days prior to the event. The other 25% do the consultation the same date they book my services. It makes no difference to me how you want to do it. I am glad to personally meet you at any time with appointment.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
I have DJ'd several weddings (and Quinceanera Parties) for people of hispanic origin, playing music specifically from the countires the couple is from. Also, I have played at receptions with various religious or ethnic considerations such as Catholic, Jewish, and Mormon. And of course all kinds of Cajun events!
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Yes. That is discussed during the consultation. However, I always tell Brides to try not to completely rule out everything they don't like. For instance if they say I love everything 80's but can't stand country, I might tell them I'll include more 80's songs than usual but will limit country to bare minimum. However, if someone is requesting a country song, we want them to have a song to dance to. But if a Bride says absolutely dont' play a particular song because that was my fiance's song with his ex-girlfriend....well, I am NOT going to play that song for sure!!
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes, even my own table. So I don't need anything but an area adjacent to the dance floor near outlets. All my equipment is professional DJ equipment
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Dance floor lights and cordless microphones are available at no extra cost.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
We have NEVER started an event late (ever!) I usually start setting up at least an hour early. If I'm playing a ceremony, I set up even earlier so I can do a sound check prior to any guests arriving. It only takes me a short time to tear down after the event. Of course I don't charge for set up and tear down time but people ask me that a lot.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
As long as it's adjacent to the dance floor and near outlets providing reasonable space for table, speakers and lighting.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
Never at weddings/receptions! Its all about the Bride & Groom. I am not there to advertise. I have my business cards out. Now if I play a car show or festival, etc...I'll put out my big banners!
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
I am a professional DJ with a great sense of timing, knowing when to talk and when not to talk. I am as interactive as you want me to be but without being "cheesey" and not talking between EVERY song. I speak clearly and pronounce names correctly, introducing the special dances, bouquet toss, etc...
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
There is not a magic trick and it actually doesn't happen to me too often. There are certain songs that are good to get people up and dancing. Also, you have to "read" the crowd and know what to play and when to play it and when to change things up.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
give me a break! ha ha. I don't break. I play from start to finish. I don't require a meal but will accept if offered. However, I never drink alcohol at events even when offered.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Its never happened but its always good to be networked with other professional DJ's. I'd have to be on my deathbed to not DJ an event I was hired for.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?
If time permits for me to do 2 events in 1 day, I'm game. However, I'd never double-book.
What is your overtime rate?
Depends on the contract. The majority of my OT rates are the same as my normal rate. Sometimes it is different if the OT will be going past midnight or into a holiday.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
My local rates apply to Lafayette Parish. Most events outside of Lafayette Parish get a reasonable travel fee depending on how far outside of Lafayette Parish. I've played gigs from Baton Rouge to Shreveport.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?

* DJ vs Band: Bands can be great. Some of my best friends have bands! However, bands usually are between 2-6 times more expensive than a DJ, they have a limited playlist and they take breaks. With an exciting, professional DJ, you can still get the atmosphere of a fun, live show, you'll save money, have an unlimited playlist and all of the songs are exactly the way you like them with no lame arrangement variatons (like bands usually do since it is difficult for them to exactly duplicate your favorie artists & songs) to mess up your dancing
* Should I care about contracts? I've heard so many horror stories about so-called DJ's who cancel at the last moment or simply don't show up because they got a better-paying gig. I always use a simple contract so there are no misunderstandings and you get the guarantee that the DJ will be there!
* Bridal Consultation: I recommend it and offer FREE consultations so we know exactly what you want. The best part is that I discuss how to avoid common mistakes and can recommend what I know works best based on the hundreds of successful weddings I've DJ'd over the years.
