Amphora Bakery

Yesterday afternoon we came into the Herndon location of Amphora Bakery for our tasting. At first, the contact seemed nice and got us drinks and brought out the tasting portions. However, when we sat down to talk about the tier flavors and designs, the whole thing went south. She made no sense when telling us how many tiers we needed, saying a normal 2 tier fed 50, and a 3 tier fed up to 89 (later changing this number to 62 and then getting an attitude as if we didn't understand). We were interested in the 2 tier design so we asked if we could get the larger bottom tier and she said this 2 tier we be too much, feeding up to 110, although the size with the naked eye was not that much bigger, making her numbers physically impossible. When I asked her to clarify the pamphlet and website saying that 2 tiers was for 50-85, she said "well, I'm telling you it's wrong." If that is the case, then you need to take all of those pamphlets our of your store and change your website. My fiance and future mother in law are Spanish and she was very rude and seemed annoyed with their accent which is very easy to understand. I want the owner to know that it was difficult to stay calm and not say anything in the store as there were other workers and customers but I would never recommend this bakery to anyone, even for a cup of water, and the worker (who did not even provide her name but was younger with strawberry blonde hair and a little heavier in physique) should not interact with customers for any reason.

We are not even considering Amphora. We have gone with Alexandria Pastry Shop because in half the time your bakery took, they got us drinks, tasting portions, took note of everything we wanted and made sense when saying that our guest size needed 3 tiers because we could freeze the top tier for our anniversary or if people wanted seconds, we could cut the smallest top tier. Their price also started and stayed at 5.25/guest while your shop started us at 4.25 and somehow jumped to 6.75 for the exact same flavors, fillings, and design.

The cakle was absolutely delicious and looked exactly as I wanted. The only issue we had was the bakery not sending a box for the leftovers, and my mom had specifically called them and asked them to include that in the delivery. Other than that, it was very reasonably priced and tasted awesome.

Again, we were not disappointed in our cake vendor either! We not only ordered our wedding cake from them, we also ordered my parents 50th wedding anniversary cake too! We enjoyed going to the tasting and had a great time choosing our cake flavors and designing it with our contact there as well. Both cakes turned our beautifully!

Our wedding cake was the best tasting cake I've ever had. Nadia helped us to customize one of their normal wedding cakes with a little extra fruitiness that made it just perfect. She helped us design the cake by giving ideas without being pushy and she really listened to what we wanted. Amphora is a little pricey, but Nadia gave us suggestions on keeping the cost down without taking away the beauty of the cake. Our guest list ended up a little smaller than anticipated, so our family was lucky enough to have extra cake to eat after the wedding was over! Our cake was beautiful and delicious and we couldn't have been happier!

I chose ameretto for the lower tier and then white chocolate rasberry for the rest. My cake came with the ameretto tier but there wasn't any white chocolate rasberry to be found! Instead they gave me buttercream! It was good cake but THE WRONG CAKE! What is wrong with these people?!
Also, the cake came lacking decoration. I chose a cake that would stand out on it's own without any flower petals but the cake that came was lacking. It had the sugar flowers I ordered but the background decoration was missing. I was obviously dissapointed.

The cake was amazing - exactly what we hoped for. The tasting was fun and staff was very helpful to explain the different choices available. Cake was delicious. It was fun to have different flavors for the different tiers. I would highly recommend Amphora!

Our wedding cake turned out exactly the way we wanted it. We provided them a picture of what we liked and made a few changes to the colors and what not, and everything turned out perfect.

We knew some people that weren't to fond of cakes with fondant, but even they loved it as it wasn't that really thick fondant, but rather a nice thin layer of it that didn't take away from the taste of the actual cake. The cake tasted just as great as it looked! It was a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for!

Nadia took care of any questions we had and was always easy to get a hold of, especially when we needed to add an additional sheet cake to the original order when our guest count went up.

Would totally recommend them again!

The cakes (wedding cake, sheet cake and grooms cake) were absolutely delicious. I couldn't asked for more. Initially I ordered only my wedding cake because I hadn't even thought of a grooms cake. I attended the tasting and the cake was ordered very quickly/efficiently and with three different flavors. My son attended with me and the bakery didn't present it as an inconvenience what-so-ever. Nadia was very knowledgable regarding her product. She actually recommended for my budget that we order a smaller cake and a sheet cake, which I did. The smaller cake size was still perfect. I called back later when I decided on the grooms cake. That process wasn't so smooth (with long delays) but it all worked out in the end and the kings crown I ordered for my hubby was beautiful! Nadia remained professional throughout the whole long groomscake process and was a great spokesperson for a great bakery! Also, the other bakery products looked so tempting that I couldn't help but to order some on the way out. They were presented beautifully and...

Two or three days before my wedding, I stopped by Amphora and ordered two rounds and a full sheet cake in a white, whipped "Betty Crocker" finish. The sheet cake was lemon, one round was chocolate raspberry, and one was strawberry buttercream. They delivered the cakes the day of my wedding, I stacked the two rounds with tier stuff I bought at a craft store and topped it with my own decor, and the caterer served the sheet cake to guests. Everyone raved about how delicious it was and it cost me 1/3 of what a traditional wedding cake would cost. I love Amphora!

We hired Amphora bakery to do our wedding cake and groom's cake. Based off of previous reviews I was worried. Especially when the girl who took our wedding cake order left the store. We were called on 3 or 4 different occassions to confirm our cake order. Which I guess they were being thorough but it just made me more nervous that they lost the order somehow. Both cakes arrived to the reception right on time and looked amazing though. The groom's cake was a custom design that looked exactly as we wanted it to. The wedding cake was beautiful and was just what I asked for. All of the cake tasted amazing too and we got tons of compliments. So the only bad thing about the store is they are a little unorganized but they got better towards the end so i'm guessing they hired new staff that are on top of things.

We worked with Nadia Patnode at Amphora Bakery for our wedding cake and everything was wonderful. From our initial consultation meeting where she walked us through the process as well as her patience during our decision making process, things went very smoothly. Even when I decided to change the design of the cake a week before, Amphora Bakery handled it with grace.

Additionally, what I appreciated most was the consultative approach from Nadia. She listened to my requests and would provide suggestions to improve upon the final product. I loved the fact that we even got a call about the color of the fondant for the base of the cake a couple of days before because the staff felt a different color would make the cake look prettier.

Finally, the cake tasted wonderful! Even better than in our tastings. Many people have told me that I wouldn't remember much from our wedding even suggesting that I wouldn't remember the cake, but thanks to the service we received from Amphora Bakery, we will remember the cake.

Amphora bakery has done a magnifcent job on our wedding cake. The design was beyond what we wanted, and was absolutely goregous. The cake also tasted wonderfully. We would recommend Amphora to any newly engaged couple.

The cake was delicious although they are lacking in their professionalism. Our contact did not provide many ideas/suggestions etc. We had a good first meeting and then after that, was not impressed. I used them because their cakes are great, price was right etc. Our cake arrived with the bottom layer having a horiztonal crack in the middile. Our wedding planners covered it up with flowers, although was disappointing.

I was very disappointed in the service with Amphora's. My wedding cake was delivered & it was a very good cake. (Red velvet) My husband's groom's cake never showed. We tried calling the shoppe but it was a sunday so they closed early I guess. My mom left a voice mail & it was 10am the next day & they didn't return her call so tried calling back... She talked to a manager to tell her the cake never showed & the manager laughed about it & said these things happen. No apology or anything. My mom asked for a refund and the cake.THe mgr. laughed & said she couldn't refund her & give the merchandise... My mom started yelling & the mgr offered her a gift card for the amount she paid & the cake. The cake was delivered later that day & my mom said it wasn't even the design she talked about with baker. I loved my wedding cake but was very disappointed in the service with what happened to groom's cake but thought I should share for others before they choose their baker...

I got married 4 weeks ago and I just wanted to warn everyone NOT to get their wedding cake from Amphora Bakery in Herndon, VA because they delivered a FROZEN 5 tier cake to my wedding reception. They delivered the cake at 5:30pm and when I cut the cake at 10pm - the whole center of the cake was still frozen. I will admit the cake was beautiful and the one bite I did eat was good, but they do not care about their customer's happiness or delivering a quality product.

My hotel told me that the cake was so hard they almost BROKE their knife trying to cut it and the pieces kept crumbling when they were cut. They also said there is no way that I got all the servings I paid for. The hotel also documented the cake problem in the hotel event log that night. That just goes to prove that something was wrong with this cake. Several people at my wedding were commenting about watching the guy trying to cut into the frozen cake. So embarrassing!!

When I contacted Amphora a few days after my wedding (while on my honeymoon) to let them know I wasn't happy. They didn't respond. When I called them to follow up - they just ran around in circles. All they would say is that they don't freeze their cakes and they don't know what happened. My wedding planner, the hotel and event staff have spoken to Amphora and it's still not good enough for them to offer me any kind of refund. They did not offer an apology either. They do not return any phone calls - I had to continue to call them and follow up.

To make this entire situation worse the owner, Maria Cholakis, was actually YELLING at me on the phone! She told me that they do not freeze their cakes and they don't even have a freezer big enough. I don't think they froze the cake after it was assembled, I think they froze the layers of cake and assembled it frozen and then decorated it. They tried to blame it on my hotel asking if they stored the cake after it was delivered - and it was not.

Maria told me that I should have saved her a piece of cake and she would know what's wrong with it. How was I supposed to save the cake - I was on my honeymoon for almost 2 weeks? She said I should have had the hotel save the cake. What difference would that have made - it would be thawed by then or stale by the time I got back from my honeymoon. That is completely unreasonable. Not to mention that as the BRIDE, I should not be concerned with saving a slice of cake for the bakery. She told me that as far as she's concerned once they deliver the cake her job is done. I told her no it's not - you need to stand behind your product and deliver quality.

She continued to yell at me that she would not issue any kind of refund until she personally interviewed every person at my hotel to find out what happened. I told her that her staff had already done that, I have an email from the hotel stating that they logged that the cake was extremely difficult to cut and they also spoke to my wedding planner who had the event staff tell her the cake was frozen the night of my wedding.

Amphora Bakery has all the information any reasonable person would need to offer an apology and some kind of reasonable refund to make a customer happy. The way they have handled the entire situation is wrong. My word as an unhappy customer should be enough for them to apologize and offer a reasonable refund. They will not do either and I've been dealing with this for 3 weeks now. Unacceptable.

Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT DEAL with Amphora Bakery!! They do not stand behind their cakes and don't care about their customer's happiness.

Amphora bakery is one of those places that everyone says you HAVE to go to... well they are right :). they were able to take my vision and make something lovely for our special day. We didn't feel extremely special at our appointment (I think watching a lot of wedding shows on TLC made us think they would do cart wheels for us) but it was ok. the tasting was nice and informal and we were happy with the outcome.

If you want the perfect wedding cake, I would not recommend Amphora Bakery. While I did not have the big lavish wedding, we did order a couple cakes for our occassion and was horribly disappointed. I ordered a chocolate cake and asked our names be written on it with emerald green icing. what I picked up was a chocolate cake and some white sugary backdrop with our names written in very small letters. To remove the plaque of white would of meant ruining the wedding cake! They were totally unsympathetic and frankly didnt care to help correct their mistake. I ended up covering it up with flowers. The other cake was ok. It did have the stars I requested and tasted edible. Still, the first cake ruined the moment. I ordered chocolate and red velvet. While they looked different, honestly, they tasted the same. Boring!

Our wedding cake from Amphora was DELICIOUS and BEAUTIFUL! We opted for a simple cake (white & milk chocolate w/ mousse filling, which was less expensive) and everyone LOVED it. Amphora books really far in advance, and it is CRUCIAL to call and make an appointment with them for tastings, etc. The only disappointment we had with Amphora was that the consultant we first met with left the company, and we were never notified, so a lot of the correspondence we sent her (including our final design choice, delivery time to the reception, etc) never got to the bakery. We were lucky that a representative from the bakery called about 2 weeks before the wedding to check-up on our order, or might not have been delivered. So be sure to check on your order often, especially if you order months in advance, to make sure your order is EXACTLY how you want it.

We scheduled a tasting with Loretta at Amphora's Herndon location and received great service. Loretta was very kind and patient and answered all of our questions. We showed her a picture of a cake we found online and Amphora replicated it EXACTLY. The cake was so beautiful and they were even able to get the exact sage green color I requested. The cake was also deliciously moist and flavorful. We choose the mocha rum and grand mariner. I have been ordering cakes from Amphora for years and knew they would do a fabulous job. Their prices are also extremely reasonable and are much less than other bakeries of the same quality. Thank you Amphora!

Awesome cake and LOVED the detail on the cake the cake was absolutely delicious and my guests wanted the name of the bakery. So 2 thumbs up def. will order again.

We met with Amphora with a design in mind for the cake. After selecting the cake and giving them our design, we were blown away by what they created for the wedding. Our initial cake design was simple fondant "ribbons" around the cake. The delivered the cake w/the ribbons but also with gorgeous sugar orchid flowers. We were really impressed and the cake was absoultely gorgeous and tasted great. The only slight complaint is that the fondant ribbon cracked in some places, but overall the cake was really pretty. Everyone loved the look and taste of the cake, we would highly recommend Amphora.

We had a four tier cake with lemon and amaretto layers. The guests loved it! Amphora was very easy to work with and the cake was beautiful.

Amphora made our wedding cake and it was great. It was a three tier cake with two flavors (chocolate and vanilla). I'm guessing by the fact there was none left over, that everyone enjoyed it! Simple and elegant, just like I wanted and for a good price.

What ever you do, DO NOT CHOOSE AMPHORA BAKERY. What was supposed to be one of their "Signature Cakes" (one that is in their catalog), it sure did not arrive that way. Listen, this is the GROOM speaking, and it's been almost 30 days now and my wife is STILL angry about this. It was so bad that she didn't even want picture taken of it. Bear in mind that we spent next to 50K on our wedding, including performances, venue and first rate meals, and this complete disaster from Amphora bakery resulted in the cake ceremony feeling sad as my wife was nearly brought to tears (and not happy ones). Our wedding colors were of course (black) with Chocolate and Cream/Pomegranate highlights and the theme was the Harlem Renaissance So our cake arrived, (the signature cake that they have made hundreds of times and that we made no changes to) with a pinkish ribbon around it. Our wedding coordinator frantically approached the situation and demanded it be fixed. Amphora sent someone to fix the cake, however, the end result ended in a bent ribbon on the lower tier with pink bleeding from the top and lower tiers. My wife and I are still completely dissatisfied and would not recommend Amphora to do a kids birthday party at this point. I, as the groom, now deal with my wife as she is "zoned out" about it because it was her day and Amphora screwed it up. She now feels as though we need to throw another event in order to vindicate or "make it right" with family and friends. I have discouraged her from it doing what I need to do as a husband but this debacle from Amphora has now angered me. They sent us a $100 gift card towards a next purchase and my wife nearly threw it away as she stormed off upstairs.

I warn you. And this goes for all grooms getting ready to jump the broom. Help where you can and do what you must to make your wife happy forever. However, some companies such as Amphora should understand the importance of "the cake" and to NOT mess it up. It would save hard working guys like me the hassle of calming the wife down when the subject of the cake at our wedding comes up.

Do not hire Amphora.

They were asked to make a 2 tier cake and when my husband picked up the cake it was only one. It wasn't the end of the world but wasn't what we had asked. Be very specific in what you request.

Our wedding cake came out exactly as we had requested. It tasted great and looked fantastic. They did a great job with helping us figure out what we wanted and letting us know different options of things they could do.

My husband and I were both disappointed with our wedding cake. Six months before the wedding date, we set up an appointment with Loretta for a tasting. My husband actually got up to leave when we found out that we were tripled booked that day and only stayed because I begged him to. The tasting was awesome, we chose our two flavors and chose on of their signature designs from their book. We were told we had to pay a full amount on the spot. One thing that really disappointed us was the failure on Loretta's part to let us know the actual size we would get on the day of. She knew from the start that we really loved the design and wanted the replica of the cake. We paid over $1100 for the cake but it turned out to be half the size of the one on the picture. I just wished that we were at least warned about the size. We would probably have chosen a different design (bigger) if we had known how small this one would look.

We were not impressed with their cakes. We were told to come for a tasting on Sunday only to find out no one was there to assist. We were just handed some cakes to try that were cold and tasted not as fresh as they could.

The designs looked beautiful but it is a shame they lacked in customer service.

Amphora Bakery made two beautiful and delicious cakes for my wedding on New Years Eve. Although the tasting at their Herndon Bakery was a little hectic (we were there on a busy Saturday morning), Loreta helped us choose a design and flavors that we really liked. The wedding cake turned out more beautiful than I could have imagined. Every detail was done well, and not only did the cake look and photograph beautifully, it tasted delicious too! Amphora also made a groom's cake in the shape of the Ohio State "Block O" based only on a picture I emailed to Loreta. I asked for them to add a few roses in honor of the Rose Bowl the day after the wedding, and they placed them perfectly! Our guests were very impressed with the look and the taste of both cakes. I absolutely recommend Amphora for wedding and groom's cakes - they were great!

Our cake looked and tasted exactly as we hoped! We went with the buttercream icing instead of the fondant, but it looked so smooth no one could tell. The buttercream is just so much tastier than fondant! We gave them a picture as an example and it was spot on!

Rude, uncaring, unprofessional and the ONLY thing that went WRONG with my wedding. I requested 100 cookies as wedding favors shaped like a Yin-Yang. Each cookie was to be placed in a clear plastic bag with red 'crinkle paper' (similar to Easter grass) and tied with a red ribbon in a bow. The sample piece I was shown was perfect and beautifully packaged. I couldn’t wait to get them. The box they showed me when I arrived to pick them up had about 4 to 6 strands of red grass for each cookie and a red ribbon tied in a knot because it wasn't long enough for a bow. Their excuse was that they were running out of red ribbon and grass. Very poor planning! The other three boxes, which I stupidly did not check because they were taped shut, had iridescent pink plastic grass that matched NOTHING in my wedding and little red ribbons tied in a knot. No call to the customer to see if I wanted another color (I could have given them two other color options). The kicker is that I had that red grass on hand from a past project and could have given it to them! Who gave them the right to decide that iridescent pink would match anything in my wedding and then only show me the box that had the cookies with the red grass? Blatant deception! They taped those boxes on purpose because they knew I could do nothing about it. Why do companies overlook the simplest details that mean everything to a bride? Don’t trust Amphora! By the way, the cookies tasted like cardboard covered in icing.

Although we, the bride and groom, were too busy dancing on the dance floor when the cake was being served (and therefore actually missed eating it that day, but have since prematurely enjoyed the top layer), our guests are still raving about it! The 2 different flavors (lemon and amaretto) were just as awesome as our tasting - which was unforgettable and we truly enjoyed.

We had a wonderful experience with Amphora bakery. We had an excellent meeting with them before we decided on what cake to get. Needless to say, she was extremely informative and we made the decision the same day of our first meeting with them. First off, she brought out 8 different cakes for us to eat. She wasn't pushy at all, listened to what we wanted and then offered suggestions. They were wonderful to deal with and on the day of the wedding the cake looked OUTSTANDING. Everyone commented on how pretty it was and then they ate it. Everyone, including folks who don't eat cake, absolutely LOVED the cake. It was delicious and our families took the left over. Thanks Amphora for a wonderful job and helping make our special day memorable. I can't wait to dig in the topper at our one year anniversary.

Great service and a wonderful cake. Loretta walked us through the design process. Flawless cake that looked better than we imagined. Really good too! We chose 3 tiers (about 20 more servings than we needed) and it all went super-fast with almost nothing left over. Everyone we talked to thought it was exceptional. A perfect 5 out of 5 -- highly recommended.

5 star deliciousness -- we were referred to Amphora Bakery by friends who said it was the best wedding cake they had ever tasted and we were not disappointed. We had two flavors in our cake - lemon & gingerbread with chocolate cream cheese filling -- both were absolutely delicious and left us craving more. We are so excited that the bakery is near us so we can revisit the wedding on date nights. :) The presentation was beautiful, and Loretta was very sweet to work with. Definitely recommend these guys for a cake that looks as good as it tastes and vice versa!

Amphora Bakery is able to make awesome cakes. If you have an idea in your head for a unique cake they can make it happen! They make awesome traditional cakes to unique grooms cakes! I highly recommend them

Our wedding cake from Amphora was absolutely delicious! We had two flavors of cake in our different layers which was great...people were able to chose which flavor (or both) that they wanted. The cake was moist and held up being outside for a bit. The ordering process was easy and they were very flexiable with me chaning my mind a couple of times. They provided various options and worked within my budget.

The cake was beautiful and delicious! I sampled cakes from many other vendors and none were as moist as this one! I worked with Loretta and she was just lovely and very responsive and helpful! I chose a cake from their brochure but made some customizations at no additional charge. I was so pleased when the cake turned out exactly the way I wanted it. I would definitely recommend Amphora Bakery.

Amphora makes the most beautiful cakes I've ever seen and they taste amazing. That was the reason we went with them and also the cost. Most cakes with fondant icing are so expensive especially if they look good. we got a cake that feed 170 people for $800 or so with two different flavors and is tasted so good. they also where great no hick ups everything went really smoothly. the only thing i would say is that they should try and make it easier to find all of there places we meet them for a tasting in herndon and then at some place it took me forever to find in Vienna. But they where great and a pretty good value because we priced it out.

This was such a disappointment. They forgot to make our cake. My husband showed up the morning of the wedding and there was no cake. They did try to accomodate us by offering to make it and deliver it to our reception location. The cake that arrived was beautiful on the outside, but it was really not very good at all. Not at all like other items from Amphora. It was embarrassing.

Amazing cake! My wife and I were insistent on getting a cake that tasted good as well as looking good. Amphora exceeded our expectations on both fronts. The cake was beautiful and delicious for a very reasonable price. The process of tasting the cake was very convenient and they accommodated our large cadre of friends (5 in all) that wanted to try the cake with us. Worth every penny, this cake was great looking, wonderful tasting, and held up in 95 degree Virginia summer heat.

I was very pleased with my wedding cake from Amphora. I had a meeting with the baker at the Herndon location one time and never needed to go back for a second meeting. I got a 3 tiered cake, and because I could not afford a larger cake for all my guests, Amphora made an extra sheet cake which made it affordable for me. The cake was gorgeous, simple, elegant, and better than I expected. It was absolutely flawless and they arrived in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend Amphora Bakery.

Although the original consultant left before my wedding and the replacement and I got off at a wrong start my cake still turned out just the way I wanted it. I was worried about the outcome of my cake because the new consultant was quite impatient with me. However, in the end her attitude changed, and she provided great customer service. I would definitely use them again. The cake was delicious and beautifully designed too.

I absolutely loved my wedding cake, it was prefect. I've already recommended Amphora to 5 of my friends.

I had a very specific idea of what I wanted my cake to look like. When I saw my cake for the first time at the reception, I was disappointed that the color of the icing wasn't what I had had in mind. The swatches at the bakery did not directly correspond to the actual icing. I opted for a buttercream icing instead of the fondant, which was not flawless looking as the fondant would've been. However, the cake designs were above and beyond. There were so many options and each was gorgeous. They're a bit pricey but their anything-is-possible attitude is exactly what a bride wants.

We got the White Chocolate mousse and Rasperry cake. We paid a little more for it and it was delicious! Everybody wants to make a lasting impression on the wedding and the cake is very important and months later people keep telling me they like the cake and how light and flavorful it was. What a great feeling that is!

The presentation of the cake and arrangment made me cry when i first saw it. I wanted it to look like this cherry blossom cake i had seen in a Martha Stewart magazine and it looked IDENTICAL if not better. The colors matched perfectly with the wedding. I was very impressed.

I was absolutely thrilled with the cake that they made for me. By far the best value I found in the DC area. They can make anything you want, with any colors that you want. I got tons of compliments from our guests.

We had Amphora design our wedding cake as well as a grooms cake that was in the shape of a cheeseburger. The wedding cake was gorgeous and exactly like we wanted. The cheeseburger grooms cake was AMAZING!!! It looked just like a great big burger! people thought it was fake and one guest almost tried to pick it up thinking it was plastic. OK so the cake looked good...now the taste..even more amazing!! Their cakes are light, moist and just fabulous. We booked them at our tasting because after that there was no need to look any further. Their frosting is a true butter cream with just butter.. no shortening here (another baker I tasted with called her frosting butter cream but it was definitely made with a good amount of shortening). The wedding cake was yellow with white chocolate mousse and raspberry. the grooms cake was chocolate with chocolate mousse and raspberry (this was my favorite!) I would definitely recommend them and can't wait to use them again for other special occasions cakes.

Amphora was terrific and the guests simply were in awe of their creation. I brought in a picture that I took of a cake on TV. I told them the colors to use and we choose the flavors and it was said and done and not thought about again until the day of the wedding.

Everything was fantastic until the person we met with months before the wedding either left or was fired. There was no communication between that person and the rest of the staff, so come 2 weeks before, had we not called, they would not have searched their records and found a little scribble drawing of the cake my wife designed for our wedding. Then, come the day of, they screwed up again, and didn't deliver it or get anything straight until our caterers talked to the owner of the place, and got the cake to our reception. Thankfully it looked as beautiful as it was supposed to and tasted fantastic, as it had when we tasted cakes, but the whole ordeal was very poor.

Perfect Cake. I had a custom design that i wanted and took her the picture. She was absolutely wonderful and we had a great time at the tasting. My cake was beautiful and just what i wanted. They delivered and the charge to deliver was minimal and well worth it. GREAT PRICE for the cake. Even used them for my wedding shower cake.

I tasted a number of cakes at a bridal show and the taste of the cakes at Amphora really stayed with me. The cake we finally chose was gorgeous and delicious! Amphora really did a good job!

We have been married three years and still use Amphora for special occasion cakes. They are the best deal there is. Service wise, they were great. We did not have to worry about cake delivery as it was in the restaurant at the appointed time. Very much like Charm City Cakes (from FoodNetwork’s Ace of Cake’s) they can customize your cakes to your desire but without the wait list and $500 minimum. Our wedding cake of three gorgeous decorated tiers cost $350 and was so delicious! Our cake flavor was Grand Marnier. Amphora has so many flavors and designs to choose from that your cake tasting appointment will be the best part of planning for the wedding.

I loved Amphora and the cake was amazing but my cake was the wrong color. I had picked out a picture of a design I liked and it was on a green cake and I said I wanted white icing but when it got there it was green. No one else noticed and it was a really light shade of green but i noticed and it was supposed to be white. Other than that I loved them and we got our anniversary cake form them and it was great.

I dreamed of a french L'Opera cake for my wedding cake and Amphora is the only one that could do it and offered it. Amazing. The quality was superb. the meeting, tastings and demos of their bakery in Herndon is a must see. They can do so much - they're creative, delicious and the best by far! I highly recommend them. I haven't had great experiences with the Vienna store (the clerks are rude and obnoxious), however the owner and the Herndon location are amazing!
