Having grown up with steel drums in the Virgin Islands, we thought we'd add a little bit of island flavor to our nuptials by having Nesta Steel drum band play for our wedding ceremony on beach and during our cocktail hour at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, California. We were very impressed with their professionalism, the variety of songs they knew and how well they played...My only regret is that I did not get to hear (or dance to) much of their performance during the cocktail hour because we were busy with our photographer after the ceremony. I certainly hope to find another opportunity to have them play in the future! 4 thumbs up! (for myself and my new husband)

Nesta played for my beach wedding in California and they were perfect! Not only were they willing to play a special song not in their playlist, but they were prompt, professional, and sounded great! I got so many compliments and was told the steel drum duo and marimba really brought the whole beach theme together. I highly recommend them

They were the perfect music during our ceremony and they played a great set during cocktail hour!

Always very responsive to phone calls/emails.

Fair price for service provided (including travel time).

They played as a trio for my ceremony and as a quintet for my reception.
Everything went exactly as planned and discussed before the big day.
For the ceremony, they played classical music (Canon in D, Bach chorales), which was just gorgeous. I had an indoor ceremony since it was December, and geez, the music just sounded so full and beautiful. For the reception, the band used a couple of the steel drums, with guitar, keyboard, and drumset. The music selection was more Caribbean, latin, and jazz. The singer was great and also played the steel drums. MC'ing was nice and not cheesy. Just a great band altogether, who kept the party moving!

Booking was a snap as Abby was very responsive and helpful.

About NESTA steel drum band

We are a husband and wife team who are full time, professional musicians who specialize in steel drums and Caribbean music. What really makes us unique are our musical arrangements for wedding ceremonies, which are buttery and gorgeous (yes, even on steel drums this is possible!). We perform for many, many wedding and other types of events annually (1800+ events between us). We have a long list of happy clients - as we are highly experienced and trained by the best.The big reason we perform so much is that, in addition to exhibiting professionalism, clients distinguish us for our very musical and high-caliber steel drum performances. Most of all, we are passionate about what we do. We love steel pan. This is our passion, our specialty instrument, and the music we listen to even in our personal lives.
Available from a steel drum soloist to a 7-piece band, with vocals or just instrumentally. Indoors, outdoors ok.

What ceremony music arrangements can you provide?

What is your usual attire?

black or khaki pants with tropical shirt, black and white, or all black

Do you offer live sample performances or CDs?

yes

How much time do you usually need for setup?

20-30 mins

How much space do you usually require?

solo or duo would need no smaller than 4'x6', but this gets larger with the band size (a sextet would need 18'x16').

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?

sometimes we do, depending on the distance (usually over 60 miles). travel charges are reasonably priced. it really depends on the location, so please inquire about this. thank you!

Additional Advice

Do you need power?
Usually, for wedding ceremonies, we play acoustically, so we do not need power. However, if we have any amplification, vocals, or backing tracks, we will need power. This will be specified with the client before booking.

How can we be sure things will run smoothly the day-of the wedding?
Each couple is given a wedding questionnaire, on which they fill out logistical details and musical selections so things run
smoothly for everyone the day-of. This questionnaire answers our most important, recurring issues, and has been tried and true dozens of times.
