Athena, you were absolutely wonderful!! My hair and makeup looked sooo good and held up throughout the whole day. I really liked how you arranged the flowers in my hair and would recommend your brides to put flowers in their hair because it looks great in the pictures. Thank you again for being so great and making me feel beautiful on my special day!

Athena is professional and will respond to your needs. She did a good job for my wedding. However, beware that she will book too many weddings on a day. I recommend that if she says that she has another wedding on your day, go with another vendor because her tardiness will stress you out. Also, she is not flexible with the amount of people who needs their hair done. I originally had 5 people who needed hair and make-up done, but one of them couldn't make it on the wedding day and Athena ended up charging me anyway for that fifth person even though the service that was not performed...

Worth every penny, even pay for extra touch-up during the day if you are taking pictures during the day light on a warm day. You dont want your make up running or smearing. Very professional and did a great job with hair and make up. Will use again, wish I could learn how to do more of this myself but just need to remember the tips and find my "style"

Athena is a wonderful hairstylist & makeup artist. She was kind, professional & sweet from the first time I contacted her over a year ago to inquire about her services & pricing.

I went to her for a makeup & hair trial prior to my wedding and all went smoothly. It was a really hot day and it gave me a chance to see how well the makeup stayed put (I "glisten" -- girls don't "sweat" :-p -- quite easily). The airbrushing was really light, didn't feel like anything was on. It didn't run or streak. My long hair retained its curls (even after I fell asleep!) until I washed it out the next morning.

Her prices are really reasonable. Even though my wedding took place in Carmel, she didn't charge me an arm & a leg for travel from San Jose. Nor was her early-morning charge (I had a morning ceremony, so her services had to begin at 7am). Most other Bay Area makeup artists had prices through the roof!

She also did hair & makeup for my mother that day. My mother looked & felt so pretty! Athena's make-up enhances one's look & doesn't make you look overdone (unless that's the look you're going for, of course). She even smoothed out my hubby's complexion for free!

Oh, and Athena, if you're reading this.... my brother said he thought you're really pretty cute, but he was too shy to tell you!

I love the make-up and hair Athena did for me. she made my special day perfect and did the look exactly as i asked and better. all my family and friends love her work too. A really great make-up and hair artist! The consult is $100 but well-worth it, and I did the airbrush make-up. Really straightforward with pricing and a nice gal. For the wedding, she came to the house, and really took her time. The hair is so good, it pretty much stayed in place all night until I really started going crazy on the dancefloor. Plus I had to do the traditional Vietnamese costume change, so it even survived wearing the big headress for a couple hours. Make-up did not need to be retouched at all through the entire day/night, except for some lipstick (2:30 pm until 1:30 am, it was still in place), not even blotting was required. She custom blends your lipstick color and puts it on the tip of an existing lipstick of yours, so you can retouch all night and not change your look. I would definitely recommend Athena! I got HUGE compliments for the makeup and the hair, and I still looked like myself, which was really important to me.

I was really happy with both my hair and make up! Athena came to the house. I paid extra for the airbrush make up, and it turned out great. I didn't even need to blot once between 1:30 pm and 1:30 am! She also mixes a custom lip color for you and puts a little bit on the end of one of your own lipsticks so you can reapply the same color all night.
The hair was really great - stayed in place through 2 clothing changes, veil, traditional Vietnamese headress and a lot of dancing.
She is a super sweet person and really open to your own comments. You bring some photos of make up and hair you like to the trial and she goes from there. I would definitely hire Athena again and recommend her without reservation!

Athena of Artistry by Athena AMAZING! Very easy to work with, reasonably priced, personable, flexible, and extremely talented! I can't say enough good things about their work! During my trial, I showed her pictures of what I'd like, she was able to recreate it completely...and made it even BETTER!
Athena were also very professional and I never had a doubt in my mind that Artistry by Athena and her other makeup artist were the perfect choice for my hair and make up for my wedding. They did my entire wedding party as well as myself and we all looked absolutely beautiful. We all had multiple compliments from everyone at the wedding as to how good our make up and hair looked. I liked about Athena's airbrush makeup was that my skin look flawless and they did EXACTLY what we wanted as we all wanted something a little different. A couple of girls in my wedding party weren't going to get their make up done, and then after seeing how good everyone else looked, they decided to have it done last minute and Athena accommodate them. Also, our hair and make up stayed put all night long! I never had to fix my hair or apply more make up. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely choose Artistry by Athena. Athena did my make-up for my wedding. As the bride, I really wanted to look my best. Athena was absolutely fabulous. She was warm and friendly and yet extremely professional. Athena conducted a pre-wedding make up consultation. She is certainly service oriented and she is a professional in her field. The make-up quality excellent and it lasted through my entire wedding and reception. I couldn't believe it! I received numerous compliments. I can't get over how good I look in my wedding photos. Athena and her other makeup artists were amazing. My trial with Athena was great. On the day-of she was on time, set up quickly, and did an amazing job. I loved my hair and make-up and got so many compliments. She even stayed after she was done to wait for my florist to show up with the flowers for my hair.

Her assistant did all of the Mother’s and bridesmaid’s hair and they all loved what she did.

Athena's GREAT at what she does. I had a total of 7 ladies who wanted hair and makeup done. They were all satisfied.

She used airbrush makeup which didn't give off the "caked" look. I couldn't even tell I had makeup on. Everyone loved both my hair and makeup.

At first I was afraid it would look too overdone but when Athena was done with me, I looked so different! In a good way of course! =) I have very small eyes and when I smile, it would look like I dont have any! This was my problem and Athena made my eyes a lot bigger and prettier yet natural. I was very satisfied with her work! She was also very attentive and caring for my makeup on my wedding day. Athena is so flexible too when I first met her. She would always come to my house to try on different makeup styles for me to get the right one that I wanted. What appealed to me and my matron of honor (who was also scouting out vendors for me!) was that Athena made her subjects look pretty yet natural. Plus, I was intrigued with the whole "airbrush" deal. I had no idea you could airbrush people in addition to pictures!
I am glad that I agreed to do a run through session with Athena before the wedding. Per her request, I gave her some pictures of hair and make up styles that I liked and she did a great job replicating the styles on me! What I liked about Athena and doing the run through was that she wanted me to be totally comfortable with how I looked. When I told her I wasn't too sure about the lipstick color, she changed it to a more berry shade and I was super happy! (Little things like that matter, you know?) I loved how the airbrushing turned out, how she did my eyes (I've got the weird predicament of having eyelids but very Asian slanted-eyes so a lot of artists don't really know what to do with me.)
Something important to mention - after I left my run through my appointment, my fiance and I went to check in to the hotel where we would be married. I noticed that the curls in my hair fell flat right away. I was very worried that this would happen the day of my wedding. My hair is fickle and will sometimes refuse to hold a curl for the life of me. I emailed Athena to let her know what happened and that I felt more comfortable curling my own hair and then have her style it. Athena emailed me back that it wouldn't be a problem.
The day of the wedding, Athena was on point. Athena finished a little bit early so there was plenty of cushion time to go from the room to the ceremony location for pre-wedding pictures.
I am so glad that I decided to splurge on having someone else do my hair and make up because it was something I didn't have to worry about. And because I did have a run through with Athena I knew exactly what she was planning to do and how it would turn out. I highly recommend Athena to anyone that wants to have a professional take care of her hair and make up on her big day. Not only do you not have to worry about how you look but you will also feel really good about how you look for your pictures!
PS: I advise you to use your own lipstick for touch ups during your wedding day. I read that from someone else's review and it was a great tip!

I used Anhthu aka Athena several years ago for my wedding. She has a great eye for how much make up needs to be applied in order for it to look in person and on photo. Being an asian with no double eyelids, Anhthu also did a great job on my eye make up. i am glad that i booked her.

Athena did my make-up for a photoshoot I had a few weeks back. She did such a wonderful job! She's very precise and focused when it comes to applying make-up so you know she's taking her time to make it perfect. She defiinitely has an artistic side to her. Look at her photos!

Besides all that, she's a very sweet person and so great to work with. I would definitely recommend her if you're ever looking for a MUA.

I had a photoshoot with Athena about a week ago and I had a wonderful time. The theme of the shoot was dark clouds in the baylands. My make up was dramatic and boy did Athena do a great job. I was worried because my skin started breaking out a couple of days beforehand. She had her airbrush kit with her when she arrived and we went to a local Starbucks to find an outlet as a power source for her airbrush tool. She curled my hair in the bathroom in less than 10 minutes and my hair perfect: nice soft waves with no fly aways. Next we went to the outlet and after 3 minutes of airbrushing, my skin was flawless. No more pimples! Yay! With the way she did my eyes, you can really tell she has a lot of knowledge about the lighting and camera distance. My eyes looked so good on the all the final shots I received. Athena is not only fast at what she does, but she is also accurate, diligent, and best of all, she has a very bright personality. She is so easy to work with. She is definitely someone I would want to work with again!

I had so much fun at the trial last night! We went to my parents house afterwards and she was so impressed (and she's NEVER impressed with anything!) So thank you, thank you, thank you! My fiance Craig also liked it a lot! He couldn't stop looking at me. I couldn't stop looking at me either! Of course I took more pictures. My skin looks so perfect with the airbrush foundation! It was hard to take off the makeup...my regular face looks so boring now.

I had my makeup/hair trial yesterday. Not only is Athena GREAT at what she does, but she's also very personable. I've been looking for someone who can get along with the ladies who will we needing makeup/hair done for my wedding. She talked to me as if we'd known each other.

Athena is great. I had a night time event that due to scheduling conflicts my makeup was done in the morning. However, the makeup and hair lasted all day even when I took a short nap in the middle. I like very natural looking makeup, so I was really unsure of myself that night. Keep thinking everyone is just being nice when they say I looked great that night. However, when the pictures came out, it looked pretty good. So trust her, tell her what your plans are and I am sure she'll have your makeup and hair done to perfection!
