Our wedding photos came out unbelievably amazing. There are so many candid shots of our family & guests that capture parts of the ceremony & reception we didn't even realize were going on. Thea was great to work with, responds super quickly to emails & phone calls, and is great at communicating to figure out exactly what you want out of your photos. We also did an engagement session with Thea a few months prior to the wedding, which was helpful because it gave us a chance to get to know her before the big day.

Thea and the second photographer were great on the wedding day; we hardly noticed they were there, yet they still got amazing photos of our guests. My only complaint is that there were a couple of staged photos we didn't get that my husband & I never even thought to put on our "must have" list. Being so wrapped up in planning, it never crossed our minds. To Thea's defense though, she did ask us at the end of the night before she left whether there were any other shots we wanted and we both said no. :) So, to other brides, I would recommend taking the time to REALLY think through which photos are "must haves" for you regardless of which photographer you choose... Although, I highly recommend Authentic Eye....

Thea was awesome to work with! We just got back from our wedding weekend and everything was amazing. Thea is so nice and puts you at ease while taking your photos. We don't have the pictures back yet but I can't imagine that we won't be more than satisfied. She was a joy to work with!

Thea was great to work with and I am so happy that we found her to be the photographer for our wedding. She took amazing photos and we didn't even realize she was there taking shots most of the time! She was so easy and great to work with both before the wedding, during the wedding, and after the wedding. Our friends and family thought she and her crew were great also.

Authentic Eye Photography was the perfect fit for our outdoor wedding at Waterville Valley, NH. They were great to work with and very flexible with shot selection in getting the shots that we wanted, and also suggesting other great options. The turn around time for photo selects and an album preview was also great!

Myself and my husband were recently married in NH and Thea (Authentic Eye) and her colleague Mary photographed our wedding. Throughout the months leading up to the wedding, the day itself (which was a challenging day, with incredible rains), and in the two months since, Thea has been a joy to work with: thoroughly pleasant, professional, and prompt. On the wedding day itself she was absolutely unobtrusive, yet completely on-the-ball, making sure no important moment was lost in all the excitement and rush. We ended up hiring them for an additional 2 hours at the reception, and it was worth every penny. She has since provided us with proofs of the photos and a sample wedding album that she selected, all in keeping with our agreed-upon schedule. Thea and her colleague beautifully/perfectly captured the wedding day, and I recommend her hole heartedly- she is incredible! Our photos are beautiful, all are friends and family comment on how great they are. She is truly gifted. Her photos look very natural. She is a photojournalist, with a wonderful eye.

Thea was great to work with. She was very flexible when I told her that I didn't want engagement photos because I was pregnant and suggested newborn photos instead. She was also extremely professional. She contacted me during my wedding planning to touch base as well as sending me a worksheet to go over our timeline for the day and to discuss specific photos that I specifically wanted. What I liked best about Thea was that she was very laid back and although I had her for nine hours, after formal pictures you didn't even know she was there! Thea takes amazing pictures!! My husband and I absolutely LOVE our wedding pictures and we would highly recommend Thea to anyone in the New England area!

Thea was excellent to work with. She made the whole process so easy from deciding on a package to ordering the prints afterwards.The pictures she took really reflected the day and the mood of the day, they are absolutely beautiful. She really helped make the most important day of my life the best day of my life.

Thea Dodds is an amazing photographer and all-around nice person to work with. My husband and I weren't even going to hire a wedding photographer at first because we were having a small wedding and most photographers' packages were way out of our budget. Authentic Eye Photography offered us an "a la Carte" menu and Thea sat down with us and worked out a really perfect, individualized package. Not only was she affordable, but when the pictures came back I felt almost guilty about the great deal she gave us!! The photography was really beautiful and beyond our expectations. She captured OUR wedding day- and tailored things to the mood and setting that we had created. She listened to our wishes and gave us the perfect mix of candids, artistic, and formal shots. We receive nothing but compliments on our album and portraits, and could not be happier. I would recommend Authentic Eye Photography to ANYONE.

Thea did such a fantastic job with our wedding from understanding what we wanted from the initial meeting to delivering the most wonderful pictures. She was very professional but relaxed which was very important to us. She caught every moment, smile, relative, friend, etc.; however, we never saw her (she's that good). We did not have a videographer at the wedding, but with her photos, we can almost replay the day as if there were a video.

About Authentic Eye Photography

Hi! I’m Thea Dodds (with the baby on my lap) and this is my family (Bryan, Kyra, Aubrie and our dog Nala).

I have been working as a professional photographer since 2001 and I’ve been photographing weddings since 2004. Over the years, I have personally photographed over 200 weddings.

Now I didn’t go to art school thinking I would become a wedding photographer. I studied photography to be a fine-art documentary photographer. After college I took a staff job at a weekly newspaper. It didn’t take long for me to realize this wasn’t a good fit. Car crashes and house fires are just not what I love about photography. I love real people, real emotions and capturing moments that become memories.

My sister got married in 2004 and asked me to photograph her wedding. I never imagined it would be so much fun. I thought, “people actually get paid to do this?” Photographing weddings is not easy by any stretch, but it is incredible enjoyable. Like that old saying, ‘if you love what you do, you’ll never work another day in your life.’

If you met me, you would probably not think I was a wedding professional, because I am not a fruffy, wedding-crazy, kind of person. I love weddings, but I’m not crazy about weddings as an industry. I don’t subscribe to (or often agree with) many of the things wedding magazines will tell you, you have to do. I see a lot of flowers, cake and favors which get wasted at weddings. What I enjoy about weddings are the emotions, not the stuff. If you feel similarly, we may be a good fit.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes

Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?

Yes. Everything can be viewed on-line in color, b/w and sepia. In our editing process we convert some images to B/W and save them as a copy. So you will always have a color version.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?

Absolutely! I think I've photographed in just about any lighting situation you can imagine.

Is your media preference film or digital?

Digital. I love film, I learned on film, but the advantages of digital just out way those of film, in my opinion.

How many photographers do you work with?

I have one other photographer who works with me.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?

Yes.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?

We only do one wedding a day. Sometimes we do 2 in a weekend but not often.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

I am connected with all of the best photographers in the area. We all have each other's backs in case of an emergency.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?

Oh my, I bring a lot of equipment. I have 3 professional cameras, 3 pro flashes, about 10 lenses, a studio light, light stands, diffusers, tripods, 100 gigs of CF cards and more. I don't use all this equipment at every wedding but this allows me to be prepared for any difficult lighting situation.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?

Yes, that is why I have 3 cameras.

Do you charge hourly or full day?

Either. I have packages that include 6-15 hours of coverage and I have "a la carte" options where you could hire me for as little as 1 hour.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?

Yes. 15 minutes before my time is up I always check in with my clients and see if they have any requests before I go or if they would like me to stay. My additional hourly rate is the same as my hourly rate. It is not inflated at all. If my time is up as you are cutting your cake or in a first dance, I don't pack up and leave. I always stick around for the crucial moments.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

I don't require a meal break, but really it is a good idea. You want your photographer to have energy. I don't require you to provide me with a meal, but I certainly appreciate it when it is done.

Do you charge for travel?

If your wedding is outside of my local radius then there is a small travel fee of .40/mile.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?

For most weddings we present a small slideshow of images at your reception. I say most weddings, because every wedding is different and sometimes we don’t have any down time. Most weddings, we have a natural break while the guests are eating and I set up a quick slideshow of our best photos. The week after your wedding we put photos up on our blog and facebook. You final proofs will be posted on-line within 30 days after your wedding.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?

On-line always and a proofbook is optional.

How long can the client keep the proofs?

On-line proofs are posted for 90 days and can be easily extended. Proofbooks are yours to keep.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?

Yes, but I do release the rights for reproduction if you purchase a disk. The only difference there is if I released the copyright it would mean I didn't take the photo. Releasing for reproduction means you can print to your hearts content, you just couldn't claim it as your own work.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?

I ask for your permission to submit to publication. But we don't publish anything that you don't agree to.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?

Digital files are available.

Will images be available for viewing online?

Yes.

What kind of albums do you offer?

I offer the best albums! All of our books are custom designed, hand bound and heirloom quality. By heirloom quality we mean that they will outlast all of us. This is vital when it comes to our philosophy – weddings are important and the photographs have to be preserved to make this investment make sense.

When will the client get the final album?

30-60 days after you order your album it will be delivered to your door.
