Totally helped keep me calm throughout the process, very easy to work with, flexible and willing to listen to your ideas while providing input of his own, extremely organized, and very professional!
The planning forms, payment method, song search, and other information available on the Avalon Entertainment website, made planning from afar much easier to do and to keep track of.
And, of course, he did a FANTASTIC job at our wedding! All of my friends and family said it was one of the greatest nights they had and were constantly asking about the DJ! Jose did a great job of reading the feel of the party and what my guests were enjoying, took requests, managed our "no-play" list, and kept everyone happy! He was also very sweet in making sure my groom and I never had an empty glass!

Jose DJed our wedding for us (including ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception). Very professional and prepared. Played great music. Had great suggestions for us when we met ahead of time. DJ Jose was awesome at our wedding! As many other reviews mention, he went around to each of our tables to ask people what would get them out on the dance floor. He was able to play a mix of music with things we had asked for and things that our guests wanted to hear. We had a great group out there dancing!! Jose got a soul train going at the end of our party which was really fun. He kept things flowing well and on time (very important with our venue). He is also great about keeping the music at a good volume so people who want to dance do feel like they are at a party but those who want to sit and chat can still hear each other. We were extremely pleased!

Jose was on the ball, always very professional, and well spoken! It was a pleasure to work with him! At the wedding, he helped take charge of the reception so that everything flowed, and asked if changes were ok before doing them. Jose Castro was the DJ at our wedding and I can't even begin to explain how amazing he was. Not only was he great the day of the wedding but all the planning and details the weeks and months prior, he was perfect! We planned our wedding from across the country and he always responded immediately to emails and was available to meet when it worked for us when we were in town. He was so knowledgeable about every genre of music, we were very impressed. Our guests loved the music and him, we had so many people on the dance floor enjoying their night. Jose knew when to play what. What makes Jose even more special is he was the DJ at my parents wedding 16 years ago. We were so honored to have him DJ our wedding as well. I couldn't thank Jose enough for all he did for our big day. He truly cares about his clients needs and will go above and beyond to meet their expectations.

As this was my first planning of a wedding, I was certainly not aware of all of the details that would be required during the actual event, and I wanted my daughter's weddding to be everything a girl could wish for on her wedding day. I was thrilled that Jose knew everything that was needed and made this day an exceptional day for our family. He was attentive and careful with details prior to the event and followed up to ensure we were clear on all of the details that were important to us. During the wedding I had so many guests commenting on what a fabulous DJ we had selected and they absolutely loved the selection of music. Literally up until the last dance the dance floor was packed. I believe this in itself is a testament to the incredible job of Avalon Entertainment. I would absolutely recommend them as a DJ. Their professionalism, style and expertise were wonderfully welcomed!

Jose was wonderful throughout the entire planning process as well as at the wedding. He offered a lot of great and unique ideas and was very responsive to what our desires and requests were. He fully met our expectations, was very flexible in planning meetings and was an all around pleasure to work with.

Jose was an amazing DJ. He has a passion for music and it showed from the first time we met with him. To say his music catalog is extensive is an understatement. He has just about everything you could think of and more for choices. We did not get the final playlist to him until the night before the wedding (which I would not recommend you do) but he pulled it together for us and it was perfect. He told us from the beginning that he would go talk to the tables to see what it would take for them to get out and dance. He did and it worked! We would recommend him to anyone, you will not be disappointed!

Had a great experience with Jose as our DJ and lighting vendor. We had a very good interaction with Jose and felt that he really did understand what we wanted for both music and lighting. We didn’t want to specifically select all the music with lots of “must plays” as we wanted to be surprised by the song selection. Also we wanted salsa and merengue music selections and Jose was very comfortable and knowledgable. Jose had a personal issue that came up at the last second, and set up a backup DJ, although in the end, it wasn't necessary as he was able to be there for our entire event. Song selection was great. Colors on the lighting were not exactly what we thought they would be which is the only reason we gave 4.5 stars for quality.

Jose was very professional and respnsive throughout the wedding planning and the wedding day. My guest were dancing throughout the night and had a blast. I really liked that during the reception Jose took care of coordinating the music for the events such as first dance, bouquet toss, cake cutting, etc. Jose's company also provided the lighting for my reception, which was amazing. From the beginning to the end, Jose exemplified professionalism and the desire to have our special day be one that we never forget. Due to both my husband and I starting new jobs during the wedding planning phase, Jose received minimal communications from us on what we wanted to hear on the big day. However, he did such an amazing job in gaging the audience. We had a lull where it seemed like no one wanted to get up and dance but he was able to motivate both sides of the family to where we were all out on the dance floor having a blast. And after that, no one seemed to sit down until the end of the reception.

Worked with Jose who was just wonderful. We had him for up-lighting and having a monogram on the dance floor for my daughter's wedding. I can't say enough how beautiful the ballroom looked. DJ Rich B was fantastic. He had a great sense of humor and very professional manner. He was able to engage all ages at our wedding reception. He did an excellent job at maintaining our time line throughout the reception. He even got everyone participating in a Conga line! If you are lucky enough to get him you will not be disappointed.

Jose from Avalon Entertainment was wonderful! He was always very flexible scheduling meetings with us. Our planner was also very impressed that he came and met with us on location months before the wedding so he could make sure everything went smoothly the day of. I was completely satisfied with everything Jose did, but I think the thing that most impressed me was how many great ideas he offered us to do something a little different. Since we had a lot of children attending our event, Jose suggested doing a "candy toss" and the kids LOVED it! He came up with so many different things I had never seen at weddings before. Unfortunately my father was unable to make it to the wedding last minute due to health issues and Jose was very flexible with quick changes to the ceremony and reception. He even provided us with a DVD of the ceremony so my father could watch it! We wanted to make sure that everyone had a great time and that the dance floor was packed, and Jose made sure of that! We had guests from all over the country and the world, and Jose went to each table asking for requests so that everyone could hear the kind of music they wanted. He even downloaded some African music that was suggested by guests and it was a huge success! People of all ages were out on the dance floor. Overall, we were extremely pleased with our choice to hire Jose for our wedding. I think often people do not realize that picking the right DJ will really ensure that a good time is had by all and we can definitely say picking Jose and Avalon Entertainment is a great choice!

My husband and I used Jose for our wedding and were thrilled that he was able to find our song we wanted. We picked a song that was from a concert and were unable to find the specific version we wanted right away. With his help we were able to get the song and use it for our first dance. We appreciated all of Jose's help throughout the planning and have recommened him for friends of ours. Each time we are impressed by his professionalism and ability to work the crowd. Jose Castro was great! He came recommended by a friend of a friend, who also thought he did an amazing job.

Jose had great ideas for making traditional parts of the reception a little more exciting. He also completely handled the pace of the evening - finding the people to make the toasts (when they went wandering off), organizing the special dances, and just generally keeping everyone on track.

He was also great with his music selection - both the general oldies/popular dancing music as well as the (sometimes totally random) special requests. We didn't have time to make a play list (though that is an option if you want it)- so we just let him do his thing. And we danced ALL NIGHT LONG.

Avalon Entertainment (Jose, specifically) was referred to us by a family member who has worked with him on other events and we were more than happy with him!

During our planning meeting (which was scheduled around where we were), he asked questions to get to know us and get to know the type of event we were hoping to have. He was extremely accessible and responsive throughout our planning process and made it clear to us that he was there to help! We felt very confident that Jose would put on a wonderful event for our wedding night...and we were right! Our schedule was running a little behind because we spent a bit too much time mingling and Jose was very flexible in helping us get back on track. We ended up canceling the bouquet/garter toss at the last second and the show still went off without a hitch! From the minute that Jose started playing dancing music, the dance floor was busy! We received a lot of compliments about Jose and we were so happy that he was the one in charge of the party!

Jose also recommended a vendor to do uplighting, and we were very happy with that as well. The two worked together to tape some of our evening and put together a video for us which was a very special touch!

We will recommend Jose to others and continue to sing his praises! :)

Jose was the BEST!! From the first moment we spoke with him he was great. Super responsive, he was always in touch to answer my questions. He even made a site visit to our venue since he had never worked there before. We had our wedding on the beach, and he rigged up the sound so it was heard all up and down the area loud and clear. Guests told us they had never been to a beach wedding where they could actually hear everything so well! Then on to the dancing, he got everyone into it!! We all danced all night long, including people who NEVER dance! It was an awesome night thanks to Jose!

DJ Jose is the best! He is professional, thorough, and attentive to details. We met with him to discuss services and he gave us assurance that he would play the right music to rotate the crowd, appealing to everyone at our wedding. While we provided a detailed play list, Jose did an excellent job with the order and filled gaps when our dinner lasted a little longer than planned. It is also important to find a DJ who doesn't advertise at the DJ table, and Jose used all black cloths to hide the equipment - very discrete.

Jose is calm, reassuring, and an impeccable planner. Of course everyone wants their wedding to go well and the DJ can make or break the reception, frankly. Rest assured, brides, that Jose will make your wedding reception a success! Although we had a wedding planner, Jose was well-prepared and coordinates each stage of the reception in advance to ensure that the wedding party was lined up, names were pronounced properly, speakers were standing ready for the toasts, and there were no lulls during the party. He also worked seamless with our wedding planner and she commented what a great DJ he was to work with.

I don't know if I'm the only one who cares about this but Jose's voice is deep and smooth -- exactly what you want when emceeing.

Many of our friends and family commented on the professionalism of DJ Jose as well as how he kept folks on the dance floor throughout the night. We were thrilled with his services and felt he contributed to the success of our wedding.

Very flexible and easy to work with. I was planning a wedding from 3 states away and communicated with Jose through email and telephone. Everything was perfect and my guests had a blast! They were dancing before dinner was even over. I highly recommend Jose for anyone's wedding.

Jose did an absolutely fantastic job as our DJ! He was incredibly responsive and provided us with a lot of feedback/ideas for our own wedding (for example, I didn't want to do a bouquet toss, so he sold us on the 'generation dance' instead). DJ Castro was great! We had two meetings with him. The first just to discuss basics about the wedding and determine the level of service needed. He directed us to his website where we could enter all our event details, including must-play and do-not-play lists. Our second meeting, a week or two before the wedding, was set up to go over our lists, the order of events and other small details.

On the day of our wedding, we had to make a game-time decision about whether to hold the reception outdoors or indoors. Again DJ Castro was very flexible. We had several compliments on the music and heard several comments about how many people were up dancing, despite hot weather.

I would definitely recommend DJ Castro for a friend's wedding.

Jose Castro and Avalon Entertainment, what can I say? We really couldn't ask for a better DJ for our reception at the Gray Rock Manson. Jose was very professional showed up on time and did an excellent job ensuring that our event ran smoothly and on time. He even helped some of our other vendors firgue out where they needed to be set up.
Musically Mr. Castor was able to provide a wide variety of songs and music types including but not limited to Baltimore Club Music and traditional Soca and Calypso ( Wife is from Trinidad) I would highly recommend this company for all your Entertainment needs.

There was a large selection of music to choose from and if you did not see something you liked on one of the list Jose was able to download the music. He did a great job announcing everything from the start of the reception to the end. Jose has a lot of great ideas to make the wedding day fun and memorable.

Jose was not just a DJ, but really felt like a part of the family the night of our wedding. He provided the music for our ceremony and the reception. His timing was perfect for both events and he has the perfect "DJ" voice. One thing that I really valued was that he wanted to have a meeting with me at the reception site a month or so prior to the wedding so that he could get an idea of how the room will be set up and to talk to me about my needs for the night of the wedding. I really valued the "on-site" meeting. The day of the wedding I didn't have any concerns about his role.

DJ Johnny Torres was wonderful! He did everything we asked him to and was just the right balance of fun and classy. We didn't want someone cheesey, obnoxious, or feeling like they always needed to talk, but we did want someone who could really keep people out on the dance floor having fun. Johnny did a great job!

We had a ton of fun - the dance floor was full the whole night, and we were going to pay for an extra 30 minutes, except our venue needed to clear out. Months later, people still talk about what a great time they had at our wedding. A lot of them actually say it's the best wedding party they've been too, which is a huge complement!

I would have put 5 stars for professionalism - Johnny was very professional - but the Avalon owner wasn't quite as professional. It was also kind of awkward to do all of the business and planning with the owner but have Johnny as the DJ. It made me a little nervous, but obviously turned out great.

Both were incredibly accommodating as well - they drove about an hour away to see the venue beforehand, made sure they weren't breaking down equipment while guests were still around, etc. They also knew about the microphone channels switching this year, which was important because they miked our outdoor ceremony on the river and had the right equipment to make sure we didn't pick up boat radios or such.

DJ Rich Barreto is a superb DJ, He has played at several occasions for me. The first engagement in which Mr. Barreto was the disc jockey was for our wedding and reception. DJ Jose Castro made himself available as often as needed to discuss our music choices and the schedule of ceromonies to make our night magical. Additionally when our solist cancelled at the last minute, he was able to suggest options for us that made the night even more memorable. He was responsive and very good at reading the crowd. I was extremely pleased with Avalon's services for my wedding reception and cocktail hour. Our DJ was professional, fun, and able to adapt to last minute changes. The musical library is vast and when one song was requested that was not in the library, the DJ gladly downloaded the song, free of charge.

His website makes planning the reception a breeze and he allows the customers to choose the songs that they prefer, to make dedications throughout the event, and to even designate songs that they don’t want to be played! He has an extensive music library and will even go to lengths to find songs that you want to hear that may not be in his collection. Jose truly cares about his customers and is willing to work with them 100%. We not only enjoyed his music, but we enjoyed getting to know him as well. He is able to adapt to the mood of the crowd and he definitely knows how to get the party started. He is not a DJ who will talk a lot during the reception nor will he try to play silly wedding games that many DJs often do. He is a down to earth guy that is passionate about his job. We were so impressed with his professionalism and superb performance at my sister’s wedding reception that he was a “must” for ours! The exceptional services that DJ Jose provided were worth every cent of what we paid. I would be willing to do it all again because it’s the one element of party planning that you can be sure is going to be done, and is going to be done well. I knew I wanted a DJ for our wedding, but I was leery of show-offs, cheeseballs, and attention hogs who thought that since they were the guy with the music, the reception was all about them. But as soon as I spoke with Jose Castro of Avalon Entertainment, I could tell he wasn't like that. He was calm, professional, and just a nice guy, offering suggestions about how my input could make his job easier but ultimately letting me decide. In the days up to the wedding I was distracted and didn't devote lots of attention to the DJ, but Jose was the kind of professional who could be trusted to do a great job even without my input. I hadn't specified what kind of dinner music to play, but Jose came up with a mix of classy 1950's jazz that was perfect. When it came time to dance, he played all the 80s favorites we had requested but, when he noticed how the older members of my family really dug Motown, he gently worked that into the mix so everyone could enjoy. And when he accidentally played "Over The Rainbow" during the cake cutting (I forgot to tell him my mom has a Wizard of Oz phobia) he smoothly changed it without incident and saved the day. Bottom line is, of all the things I had to worry about during my wedding day, Jose Castro of Avalon Entertainment was not one of them. I highly recommend his services.

Jose Castro of Avalon Entertainment is an awesome DJ. He djed our outside wedding and reception perfectly. The ceremony music was perfectly timed, the introductions for the reception entrance were exciting and correctly pronounced, the music restrictions (no foul language) were followed, guests felt comfortable talking with him, he coordinated and managed all aspects of the reception brilliantly (special dances - including a very complicated father-daughter dance because of having 3 fathers! -, toasts, everything), and he was quite attentive to all of my nervous-overly-controlling-bride-details! My husband and I enjoyed Jose Castro's services so much, that we have been booking him every year since for our annual church/community dance. This dance is especially challenging because the age and music style vary greatly among within the group; Jose Castro works this dance wonderfully also. I very highly recommend his services.

And there's nothing quite like great music to help loosen up a crowd and let them be themselves. Enter Avalon Entertainment -- personable and a skilled professional with a real talent for reading a crowd and keeping the party rocking regardless of the event. I've worked with Avalon multiple times, and he's great at getting young and old away from the tables, onto the dance floor, and letting down their guard - even at events where he is just supposed to be background music and there isn't supposed to be any dancing - he gets them dancing anyway! I'm never at a loss when photographing his events.
