DJ Sammy was easy to work with, enthusiastic, and professional. I am hard to please, yet Sam made my dream wedding come true. He followed the agenda we planned together, but also responded well to unexpected changes the night of the wedding. Everyone loved the music and I danced all night. I added a karaoke package and it was a big hit! Sam is friendly, communicates well, and aims to please his clients. He is more than just a DJ, he helped keep the night's activities on schedule, and he coordinated with my other vendors to insure everything went smoothly. It was a magical night of awesome music!

Sammy made our wedding special. He took a big and important part of the wedding and made it memorable. I still hear people telling me how much they enjoyed the music at the reception and celebration. Sammy was great when we were working on the ceremony music. He is very patient and worked with me very well. I'm a musician, so I am very picky on music and how it should go. So glad that Sammy understood that been a musician himself. He just doesn't just play music, but really gets the essence of who you are and helps you with your music. He was so flexible and accomodated some changes we made and details that were very important to me. Once the wedding got started I was able to relax and Sammy took the driving wheel. Which is great!, for this allowed me to really enjoyed my wedding and remember so many aspects of it. Memorable is a word I used when he asked me to define my wedding - he delivered. Samuel provided his services for our wedding ceremony and reception. My husband and I absolutely loved everything about him, as well as our parents! Samuel is truly amazing! Not only is he a DJ/Emcee, but he also serves as a wedding planner in a way. If we had questions about anything, he had the answer or would do his best to find it. He performed the ceremony coordination for us at our rehearsal and really took the time to make sure everything was perfect before we left. We met multiple times before the wedding to ensure proper planning. He really makes an effort to make sure your wedding goes off without a hitch; he truly understands how much a wedding means to a couple and does everything possible to make sure nothing goes wrong. The wedding night was flawless and much more than I could have expected! He had the crowd involved and everyone is still talking about what a great time they had and how awesome the DJ was!!! He is definitely not the kind of DJ that just sits in a corner and pushes play; he is very vocal and knows how to mix it up to suit all the different genres and cultures. Quite simply said, Samuel Reyes is the epitome of his company name. He is AWESOME. After attending two parties where Sam provided the musical entertainment, there was no question for my husband and I that Sam would be our DJ of choice for our son's wedding.
From our initial meeting, we found Sam to be professional. He was punctual, extremely detailed and organized. Because Sam is exceedingly knowledgeable on all genres of music, he was able to accommodate our son and future daughter in law's song requests, and provide music to entertain our diverse gathering of young and older attendees. Their taste ran the gamete from country to rock and all styles in between. Sam read the crowd and he kept the floor packed until the last dance. We were told repeatedly Sam was truly outstanding. And he was.
While Sam is a man of his word, delivering on all promises he made during our preparation sessions, it is his passion to please his clients that made him stand-out to us and to his profession. Sam truly cared that every detail of our son's wedding ran flawlessly. Right from the start Sammy was my go to guy for ALL my wedding questions and concerns. He was like my quarterback, he basically helped me plan my wedding from scratch. Without Sammy I would have been lost!!! He is such a joy to work with, very easy going and super informative since he has been in this industry for so many years! He was not just my DJ he was like my part time wedding consultant all for the price of ONE! On our wedding night he arived early, set up his gear, got dressed into a suit and rocked our night!! DJ Sammy can honestly be summed up in one word AWESOME!! We just celebrated our wedding on March 13th 2011 and I just had to write a review ASAP!=) He really is an entertainer. We had a very multi-cultural wedding and he was able to cater to everyone because he knows his music. He is with you from start to finish, he develops a relationship with his clients to make thier event as personal and special as possible. AWESOME! He keeps the party going so that people never get bored. Our guests raved about Sam and loved his energy the entire night. He was our DJ for our wedding and he was very helpful during the planning and the actual day. My husband and I come from different cultural backgrounds and he did a great job integrating both cultures and making every guest feel comfortable (as a matter of fact several of our family members from o...ut of town were asking if he could do their weddings out of the U.S.!).
What I loved the most is that Sammy really cares about your event and he is very accessible throughout the process (unlike several other vendors that we hired; once we signed the contract they were "always busy").

This is not your usual DJ that comes in to your event and plays music. Sam of awesome music entertainment takes his business and services extremely serious and wants nothing but perfection and professionalism out of his services. He spends and enormous amount of time on your event prior to the date of the event for planning and getting to know you. He makes sure that your day comes out to be the day you dreamed of. Your event will be unique and to your specific taste as a result of the dedication and time he devotes to your event.

The wedding was almost perfect, and the DJ was a big part of that almost. Bobby was a terrible MC. The dance floor lighting was a nightmare; even the bride tripped on some exposed cables and one of the guests fell. In general, their service was really poor.

Q: Does your DJ use professional equipment?
A: There is a difference between the audio equipment you have at home and the equipment a professional Disk Jockey uses. Professional audio equipment is built to go on the road day in and day out. Make sure your prospective choices use only professional equipment to insure the music sounds as good as possible for all of your guest’s enjoyment.
Q: Can your DJ provide backup equipment and personnel in case of emergency?
A: Even professional equipment can fail on occasion, so it is important to know whether your DJ has spare equipment available to them. Any number of circumstances may arise between the time you book your DJ and the date of your event. It is important to know if the DJ has a backup plan in case of illness or accident.
Q: Can your DJ provide a written contract?
A: It is extremely important to have your booking confirmed in writing. All terms of the agreement should be in writing to avoid any complications at a later date.
Q: Will your DJ be suitably dressed for the occasion?
A: It is important that your DJ looks the part by dressing in formal or semi-formal attire. Be sure to specify the type of apparel than you DJ should wear. There should be no added fees charged for the formal attire.
Q: Does your DJ know the proper procedure and etiquette for your type of wedding?
A: A professional DJ will become involved with the planning of your special day and will be prepared to handle all announcement and special events on the day of your wedding.
Q: Is your DJ registered, incorporated and/or insured?
A: A DJ who has taken the time to incorporate, register and insure their respective companies, demonstrates that they are serious business men and women. However, some of the best DJs are sole proprietors who are owner/operators!
Q: Do you belong to a professional organization or trade group?
A: Although belonging to an organization or trade group does not guarantee the talent or professionalism of a disc jockey, it may indicate the company’s willingness to network, learn and grow. Disc jockeys can learn through local chapter meetings, national DJ conventions and seminars geared toward the entertainment professional.
Q: Is your DJ willing to discuss musical selections ahead of time, and is he or she willing to play requests, particularly if they are suitable for dancing?
A: A professional DJ is aware that they cannot possibly know everything there is to know about your musical preferences and entertainment needs. They should be willing to listen to your ideas and suggestions. They should make themselves available prior to your event to discuss selections. They should never play songs you have asked them not to play. Special requests should never be a problem and your DJ should be willing to play them where they are appropriate.
Q: How much music should a DJ bring?
A: Some DJ services brag about a huge music library. Ask them if they are brining the entire library and if it is in a database. The DJ should be able to play music from the Big Bands, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, right up through today’s hottest hits. Your DJ should be able to provide even ethnic music to suit your event.
Q: Should the DJ provide you with a music guide or list to assist you?
A: Yes. Your DJ should arrange a meeting with you as soon as possible to go over all the details. Ask the DJ for a copy of their music list. Some DJ’s offer a shortened list that gives a profile of the type of music they have in their library. A DJ should take the time to find out your musical tastes and be open to your needs. By the same token, an experienced DJ also knows what works and what doesn’t work. Listen to their advice.
A classic example of one where the bride and groom insisted on country music for the entire reception! They choose their favorite songs even thou the guest list included many people from different backgrounds. As a result, a large number of guests did not enjoy as much or participate in the reception ceremonies as they could have. Common sense dictates that you might want to listen to your DJ in this case.
Q: If I contracted for five hours but everyone is having a great time, how should I handle the overtime?
A: Your DJ should have discussed that with you prior to your event and it should also be part of your contract. However, you alone must authorize it. If the check you have prepared for the DJ does not cover the overtime then the DJ has the option of accepting cash or check. Usually, it is best to have the cash available and to pay the DJ when services are rendered.
Q: Do you tip a DJ and when do I pay them?
A: The answer to tipping is up to you. If you know the DJ gave you a fair price and a great performance then it is always nice to say thanks. Payments should always be made on the night of the performance, either prior to the end or at the conclusion of the event. However, each DJ operates differently and payment arrangements should always be stipulated in your contract.
Q: Am I obligated to feed the DJ?
A: No, you are not obligated to feed the DJ; however, it is a nice gesture to offer a meal of some sort while everyone else is eating. Often your DJ will setup an hour before your actual event, plays for a minimum of about four hours and then after your event has concluded take about an hour to disassemble and pack up their equipment.
Your choice of Emcee and Musical Host for your event is extremely important. There are many horror stories of the lowest priced disc jockey company providing an inexperienced DJ, using sub-standard equipment, being a late arrival or worst yet, a NO SHOW. Here are some tips to help you hire the RIGHT disc jockey entertainment for your celebration:
1. Plan ahead. Allow enough time to have a written contract well in advance of your event.
2. Don’t wait to hire your entertainment last. Some DJ’s book up to 2 years in advance. If you wait, you may not be able to book the DJ you want or be able to find one to fit your event.
3. Make sure that you know the specific disc jockey that will be working at your event. Some companies promise you a Disc Jockey but even they don’t know who it will be until the date is imminent. If your event is on a busy date, you may get a Disc Jockey that ranks low on the company’s list or the company may subcontract the job out to some other Disc Jockey. Maybe even to a DJ that you’ve already decided was not the right DJ for you.
4. Ask for references for the specific DJ you are considering. Check the references.
5. Ask what type of guarantee they offer that the DJ you hire will not be switched at the last minute. Make sure their legal name appears on the contract.
6. Meet or talk with the specific Disc Jockey that you intend to hire. They should be able to offer suggestions on event itinerary, and song selection. Tell them what YOU expect and want to take place at your event.
7. Check the price. Make sure that there are no hidden costs to get what you expect. Some low quotes may not be for "prime nights" and may be for shortened hours. You also get what you pay for in this industry.
8. Do not assume. ASK!!
Most engagements should be quoted on a four hour basis. Friday & Saturday are the prime nights of the week. Lights may cost extra. Ask just what the light show consists of. You should never pay extra for a DJ to be dressed in a tuxedo.
9. Speak personally to the Disc Jockey again on the week of your event to make sure all of your wishes are known. Some companies may ask for balance payment in advance. Make sure that you are comfortable with this arrangement and the company with which you are dealing.
10. If your reception hall refers you to only one DJ, ask for some additional references. You may be getting a reference on a DJ that is not doing the best job that the venue has seen but is in fact the DJ Company that will give the venue the most money. Again, we suggest that you find out the name of the DJ that will appear at your event and find out about them. Some venues that claim to have a "house" DJ, in actuality, have hired a company to staff the DJ position and once more you may find yourself with a substandard and/or inexperienced person, low on the DJ list, that earns much less money to perform than you are paying to the venue for his services.
