This is a beautiful place for a wedding- it has the charm and rustic feel my daughter wanted. I did experience the same problems with responsiveness as the other comments here, until they got a new wedding coordinator. The new gal, Terry is a gem. She was so helpful, friendly and accommodating. She went all out to make sure we were happy.
The venue is a bit expensive and the remodeled bathrooms are not as upscale as you would hope for a wedding, but fine for a winery.
Cafe Merlot has the best food and Toni Kraft is amazing. Very nice to work with.
Bernardo Winery is a lovely venue to host a wedding but there are some restrictions that everyone should be aware of. 1) Sound System was horrible. They told us about the limitations but when you actually hear it, it's worse then you think. If music is important to you, make sure you check it out beforehand. It's low and scratchy at times. My DJ said they have some remote switch and kept lowering the volume the whole night. 2) No glassware. Wine, soda, beer are served in plastic tumblers. Water served in plastic bottles. I was kind of bummed to find this out a few months before my wedding. I guess it's minor but if you want a certain look, plastic cups will put a cramp in your style. Only champagne is served in glass flutes. 3) Everything must end at 9pm. This is because the venue is located in a residential area so events must end early. If you want to party late, this place will not accommodate that. Other than these three restrictions, Bernardo would have been perfect! We still had a great time and was able to have a beautiful outdoor wedding within our budget.
I recently got married at the Bernardo winery. I would never recommend the winery as a wedding venue. Although I was extremely happy with our caterer Cafe Merlot they were awesome and our bartender was great! I would recommend going there for a wine tasting, to enjoy the shops, or to eat at Cafe Merlot. The event coordinator offered to move our wedding to the Bernardo Inn on the day of our event because my mother asked them to clean the cobwebs out of the restrooms. Even though they promised at the time we paid, the bathrooms would be detail cleaned. My mother was willing to hire an outside cleaning service. There were cobwebs in the corners, an un-mopped floor, etc. When my mother spoke to Rossi (the owner) about it, his response was, he bet he could find cobwebs at my mother’s house! I experienced non-existent customer service on the event staffs part which began about the time our event was paid in full (90 days in advance, per their policy). The event manager disappeared on the day of my wedding offering zero help and allowing rift raft to intrude on my wedding I actually had a winery patron ask me for directions! After payment was made in full it was nearly impossible to get the event staff to respond to emails or phone calls when I was requesting assistance with simple wedding preparations. I was sincerely hoping they would make up for it on the actual day of the event, unfortunately they failed miserably. Do yourself the favor and have your event elsewhere as the winery staff recommended.
Amazingly beautiful...full accomodations. Staff is great and no need for a wedding planner with this venue!
The Bernardo Winery is a lovely venue with a lot of charm, I honestly couldn't have imagined our wedding at another location. My husband grew-up in the area and we'd visited the winery several times. We love their wine and the country feel of the Winery.
I will say that dealing with the event coordinator was a chore and I almost didn't book this venue because she never returned my calls or emails in a timely matter. We're talking weeks. When we went to meet with her for our last meeting before the wedding day, she was over an hour late and unapologetic. She had forgotten many of the things we had discussed before, things I had written her emails about so she would have in writing. There was also another wedding that day and she wasn't helping them.
The day of the wedding they forgot the chairs I'd asked for several times and I found out later never chilled the beer. They were serving my guest warm beer for the majority of the evening.
I understand that the summer I had my wedding there was a death in the family that owns and runs the winery. If I understand correctly, their Grandson is now running the winery and is making several changes. I hope those changes involve more attention to their couples and better organization because this really is a lovely venue.
The Bernardo Winery is beautiful. We had our reception at Rosario's Pavilion which is a great space. Annie worked hard with our caterer in our one meeting together (the caterer, her and myself) to ensure that they were also helping to provide a quality event. She also gave us several complimentary wine tastings so we could pick out the right wines for our event. Yum!
It is gorgeous there and they are very flexible as we had a photo booth, a bounce house, dj with slide show...etc. The only bummer is that the events need to end by 9pm due to sound issues to the neighboring houses. Our ceremony was at St. Michael Catholic Church which made this a perfect reception site for being only two miles away.
This place is incredible. It is a quaint little winery in Rancho Bernardo. OUr wedding was a hit. The venue charge is low but you have to use their bar services. After the open bar and wedding and reception payment, we paid less than 3000 for 100 people with a 4 hour open bar. It is a great place for a wedding and very charming. Check it out!!
