Thank you Karyn for a valuable keepsake. I missed most of the wedding rushing around attending to my daughter and her wedding party. The video has allowed me to see the wedding in it's fullest. My daughter was soooo beautiful, every time I watch it, it makes me cry. You and your staff were wonderful and I would defianitly recommend you to others.

I cannot wait to see how our video turned out! Karyn at Black Label is such a sweetheart and is extremely easy to work with. We were so lucky that she was available on such short notice prior to our wedding, and she immediately took the time to get to know us and know what we were looking for in a videographer for our wedding. Her portfolio on her website really speaks for itself- she's amazing and produces top-quality work. She made us feel at ease the whole evening and it was like she wasn't even there- we didn't feel intimidated by the camera at all. We are so happy that we found Black Label and would recommend them to everyone!

I just viewed a 5 minute feature film of my wedding completed by Karyn of Black Label Films, and I absolutely love it! Karyn was so encouraging and friendly to work with during the planning stages of the wedding, which as you know, can at times be stressful. But Karyn never added to the load, if anything, she put me to ease with her professional presence and organized manner. One of my concerns with any videographer was placement; I was worried the camera or videographer would be distracting and get in the way of ceremony viewing. Karyn was fabulous in this department! I never once during the wedding noticed her. She was very good at capturing fantastic footage in a very classy and nonintrusive way. The video far exceeded my expectations as Karyn is very gifted in shaping your story and fitting it beautifully in a short video. I've received compliments from most everyone who's viewed my video, commenting on how beautiful it is and how it has brought them to tears! I would HIGHLY recommend Karyn and encourage you to seek her out for any Memory Film needs you may have. I really can't encourage you enough-- Karyn is well worth it!!

Hindsight is 20/20, right? Looking back on my wedding day, there are lots of things that I might have done differently, but one thing I would NEVER change is my decision to hire Karyn of Black Label Films to capture my wedding day on camera. In fact, I would make that decision over and over again.

From day one of wedding planning, I knew I wanted a videographer and I definitely had a vision of what I wanted my wedding film to be. When I sat down with Karyn, I knew instantly she and I were on the same page. Karyn is incredibly easy to work with and her enthusiasm is infectious!

On my wedding day, to be completely honest, I don't remember Karyn being there at all (except for a few quick smiles here and there). She was extremely professional, moving swiftly in and out of the crowd, documenting the smiles and laughter, happy tears and toasts that the day contained.

I have watched my wedding film more times than I can admit without sounding extremely narcissistic. I have watched it with friends; I have watched it with family; I have watched it by myself; I have played it in the background as I clean the house or do the dishes. My wedding film is more precious to me than most of the things I own and I have Karyn to thank for that.

Wedding photos are important, they are beautiful to frame and fun to look through. But a wedding film is priceless. It is the the living, breathing, reenactment of the most special day of your life. And Karyn is the director that will orchestrate the most enchanting retelling of your story to watch and keep for years to come.

Karyn is absolutely fabulous and did an amazing job on the video. She was super flexible with us and I couldnt be happier. I get so many compliments on the video and over 2 months later I still get people sharing it on facebook and asking who I went with! I would highly reccomend her!

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes

Are you a commercial studio or a home-based business?

We are both. I have a home studio that is 550 sq feet in the technology area in Hillsboro. I also have an office space in the SE Waterfront district. We are a professional, established, full-time company...not a hobby or freelance.

Do you offer demo DVDs for potential clients to look at?

In order to remain "green" friendly we ask that clients view our Portfolio online (our Vimeo videos are available in full HD). If clients would like to view films on a bigscreen we invite them to our office space for a viewing, consult, and free cup of coffee or glass of wine.

What types, such as unedited footage or special effects, of videography do you offer?

Our studio style is cinematic, emotional, dramatic, edgy, and sentimental. Our films can have wildly different moods based on the personality of the couple and their soundtrack selections. We offer ala carte services such as raw master files, Same Day Edits, documentary edits of ceremony and toasts, and much more. Please inquire for details.

Do you have lighting equipment to accommodate a more dimly-lit event?

Yes, we do. Lighting, audio, and camera placement will be discussed with you at a final consult about 1-2 months out from your wedding day. We also shoot with DSLR cameras which handle low lighting extremely well with a minimum of artifacting or "grain".

How many videographers do you work with?

We have an elite, handpicked team. Typically there will be two cinematographers, a team coordinator/assistant and a dedicated audio specialist at each wedding. Our total team thus far is 5 - we have 3 cinematographers on board as well as our assistant/coordinator and audio specialist. Together we make a complete, full featured yet discreet team.

Does the client get to meet the videographers before the event?

The client will get to know Karyn, the senior cinematographer, extensively before the event. If the client would like to meet more members of our team we would love to get together with you for drinks or dinner! We do not assign strangers to your wedding. We are a boutique studio who cares about a personal relationship with all clients and our top priority is making you comfortable and stress-free.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?

Yes, I do, except in cases of emergency such as a car accident.

Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?

No, never. One event per weekend is all we will take on.

Do you have a replacement videographer in case you become unavailable on the event day?

Yes, I have a backup, and a backup of a backup. :)

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?

We are a DSLR camera studio so the cameras you will see us with are going to look the same as what your photographer has. We just have them in video mode. We also bring some cinematic tools, and audio and lighting equipment. We keep everything nice and neat, our assistant is great at that!

Do you bring backup equipment to the event in case of malfunction?

Of course!

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

Yes, we ask that they do. If the client is unable to provide a meal then we will need to exit off-location in order to feed ourselves. Keep in mind we are with you for 8, 10, 12 (sometimes more!) hours a day, and we have to maintain our mental best to produce the best result. As biological beings we are not robots and require food, drink and potty breaks like all other human beings. :) We request to be fed onsite because it will actually result in less time than having to pack up our gear, get in a car, find food, and come back. We will eat as quickly as is polite at a sophisticated event :) and then we will resume our activities. Most clients do not want footage of people eating, anyway...it isn't very flattering and rarely adds to a storyline. We will be ready to go for your toasts, first dances, etc.

Do you charge overtime?

Our contract will plainly state our coverage times, and because of promises I have made to my staff and my family, I will honor our end time within 5 minutes. If you are running late and would like to pay for additional hours, the fee will be discussed with you ahead of time so you are aware and it may only be me staying on. Before your event, we typically arrive about a half hour early and there is no charge for this.

Do you give access to your raw footage?

Yes, it is an ala carte add-on option but is included at no charge with our Black and Platinum Label packages.

Do you reserve the right to use the video in the future for deals, contents, etc.?

Black Label Studios owns the copyright on all works of art we create. We employ a shared copyright model where the client owns the DVD copies and the right to watch, distribute and share their final film as much as they like. We also retain copyright ownership for our marketing and demonstration purposes. Full copyright and non-disclosure release is available for celebrity clients, please inquire.

Is the client involved in the editing process? If so, how much input does the client have in editing?

No, our clients are not involved in our editing process. That doesn't make sense to me, it would be like you paying yourself to edit. :) Our clients hire us for our professional ability, we find our clients don't want to do any editing. It's tough, tedious work! We do work with clients beforehand to make careful music selections and music drives the whole feel of your final film. You can expect and trust the style to be fully consistent with what you've seen of our work thus far.

How long does it take for the client to get the final video?

We are the ONLY studio in Portland with a one to three month turn-around time. Other studios range from 4-6 months, clear up to 18 months that we've heard of a studio or two taking to return films to their clients. That is just unacceptable to me and it should be to you, also. I have a shoot-edit-shoot-edit model where I am able to keep up with weddings pretty well and do not have a huge backlog heading into the winter months. That is the secret to our faster turn-around...not that we cut corners. If a studio tells you that it takes 12 months to deliver quality they are not telling you the truth. They have just over-committed themselves to other tasks and jobs.

Do you require a minimum number of hours to book?

During the summer months of June - October yes we require a White Label or higher package to be booked, which is 8 hours. During off season or non-weekends, we do entertain smaller requests.
