Our wedding planner from Blink Weddings and Events referred Black Tie Affair after we asked for suggestions on where to get tuxedo's. For those of you like me who weren't familiar with Black Tie Affair, it's in the same shopping center as Big City Diner, Kim Chee II, Happy Day, and a bunch of fine eateries on Waialae Ave. Parking can be tight, but if you go during now prime-time hours, you should find ample parking.
When my fiance at the time and I went to visit Black Tie Affair, we were very impressed with the showroom and the friendliness of the owner Mike. We talked story for a long time and he made it seem like you were a long time customer or a friend! He's very professional, helpful, and very knowledgeable with the trends. Black Tie Affair has a ton of selections to pick from and pricing is very reasonable. He has a wide variety of colors and different styles of tuxedo's to offer. We both were very impressed with his selections and already knew we were going to do business with Black Tie Affair. After the tuxedo fitting, I was assured that I was in great hands and we signed a contract that same day.
On my final tuxedo fitting, Mike remembered that I mentioned that I was going to lose 10lbs due to a bet and because I wanted to look good for my wedding. By him remembering that, that just confirmed that we were in great hands. Again, he was very friendly and talkative which makes the experience that much better.
Finally it was time and picked up the tuxedo the day before the wedding. He had everything ready to go and nothing was missing! Yet again, he was very professional and gave great tips about how to make sure your tuxedo fits just right!
Before you go anywhere else, check out Black Tie Affair! He won't give you the run around, he's to the point, and he won't rip you off! His selections are huge and his pricing is VERY...

My fiance was given a small handful of things to do, one being making the arrangements for what he was going to wear at the wedding. He kept dragging his feet on getting it done until I had to lay down the law (I had to remind him that we were getting married around prom season and if he couldn't find something to rent he was going to have to BUY something- that really got him going!) I think part of the reason why he took so long was that didn't know where to go (he had never rented a suit or tux before.)
He ended up asking a friend and that person told us Black Tie Affair was hands down the place to go.
It's a small place in Kaimuki near the Movie Museum. The woman that helped us was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient. I think we were done in about 30 minutes and after we left my then fiance mentioned that it was so painless if he knew it was going to be like that he would've done it sooner!
To rent a suit was pretty cheap (around $85) and the dress shoes was another $15 or so. In fact the service and price was so awesome, we told our friend that was our MC to rent his suit from there too!
When my now husband went to go pick up his rented suit, he mentioned to the guy that he didn't know how to tie a nice tie (he had watched some YouTube videos and tried to practice but I guess it wasn't coming out right), and the guy was so awesome he ended up doing the tie for my husband so that all he had to do was just tighten it! Talk about...

Michael has been in the business for a very long time and is very confident in his product. I was skeptical about certain aspects of my groomsmen wearing tuxedoes. But in the end everything looked great! Michael has a great personality and explains everything very thoroughly! He was definitely right! The groom should frame the bride not blend in with the bride. I am so happy my man wore black and I wore ivory. It looked very elegant! I was also worried about the groomsmen wearing black next to my bridesmaids in orange but, Michael reassured me that it would look good and it did. All we had to do was chose the right tie and vest to match the orange! It looked great! So classic and elegant!

We had taken pre bridal portraits the week before the wedding. Black tie affair was able to accommodate us and let us keep our tux for a week in between the portraits and actual wedding date. There was a small fee per day, but it saved us the headache of returning and then picking it back up again. Great customer service and very friendly.

Michael, the owner, is nice, experienced, and accomodating to DH's mix/match of different tuxedo styles. They also lent my dad a tie for free. You can't walk in without an appointment though.

This is where my guy and his best man got their tuxes. The guys in this store in the mall were so helpful at picking out the perfect fit for the best man, and finding the particular style that my husband wanted. My husband looked the handsomest he has ever looked in that tux!

Karen and Mike were a great husband-and-wife team. They were efficient with all the fittings, and also very accommodating when 2 of our groomsmen couldn't make it to the final fitting with the rest of the boys and had to reschedule it for the next day. All the tuxedos looked great and the boys looked so sharp on the day of the wedding. I highly recommend them.
