Now that the day is over there are 2 Big things I would suggest to any new bride. 1. Hire a wedding coordinator 2. Listen to the recommendations of one vendor to another. When we hired Blacklake catering, maybe one of our 7 other vendors knew of them. However, all I thought was when it comes to catering prices we were getting a great deal. But I guess the saying is right - you get what you pay for.
Now dont get me wrong - the food was excellent. We have got nothing but compliments about the food. However the service we got before and during the wedding was horrible. It literally brought me to tears the day before the wedding. There are so many examples of why I would not hire Blacklake that it is sad. I will give a couple just for references.
1. Communication during the whole process was awful. Now I say this because in this day and age I expect email to be somewhat quick and easy. It would some times take weeks before I would get a response through email, and that would only come after me contacting other people at Blacklake with concerns that maybe my main contact (Fran) was no longer working there or possibly on vacation.
2. After realizing that the prices per drink for the bar were extremely high we decided to provide the alcohol.(Which btw it seemed like from the moment we told them we would be providing the alcohol, they were extremely difficult to work with). They charged us $1000 for 2 bartenders - WE provided not only the alcohol, but cups, ice, storage for ice, soda, mixers, garnishes, and all of the tools the bartenders would need to prepare and mix drinks (we didnt know we would need all of the tools until the night before the wedding). The cocktail hour began at 3pm and at 9 pm (an hour before the reception ended) they tried pulling their bartenders. My father had to ask them to leave one bartender to finish the night. Also, after paying $1000 for bartenders and providing everything a bartender told one our guests that she couldnt have a cranberry vodka in these terms "Listen, we arent serving an froo-froo drinks here. There are no fruity mixers for you." We had provided both bartenders with plenty of cranberry , pineapple & orange juice.
So basically if you hire Blacklake the food will be great, but unless things change the service is awful.
