Blue Nile

I absolutely love my engagement ring! Before the old man (Chinese sentiment to call your husband) and I got engaged, he thoughtfully asked me what I would want. I can be a bit picky about jewelry, and I did scare him with a story in the past that I had my ex-boyfriend return a promise ring he gave to me because it was hideous (well, he got the point after I cried - not the "I'm so happy cry" - when I opened the ring box).

Anyway, I love how Blue Nile's website allows you to build your own engagement ring. The options on the website are very user friendly. After you select which diamond shape you would like, there is a built-in slidebar that allows you to select a range of carat size (0.23 upwards to 12), cut (fair to signature ideal), color (J to D), clarity (SI2 to FL), and price ($200 to $400K). Each option has a drop down explanation if you are unfamiliar with any of those descriptions.

After selecting your center piece, the website shows you a really thorough report of the diamond which includes depth %, table %, symmetry, etc. Then you can select your metal type (platinum, yellow gold, white gold) and style (solitaire, side stone, three-stone, matching set).

Then my favorite part comes when they show you ring you designed on a hand to give you a perspective how large the diamond looks, and also a side profile for you to see how much height there is.

I selected everything I liked, then I choose "e-mail to a friend" and I got EXACTLY what I wanted. Jerry called in the order, and the sales representative gave him some additional advice. Insured shipping through FedEx is included, and the ring was sent in a very nice blue ring box.

I've used Blue Nile for Christmas gifts as well, and I haven't had any problems.

My husband is a very picky person - which I guess says a lot about me! He spent over three months researching rings and finally purchased my engagement ring from blue nile. He got a fantastic stone, a beautiful setting and all his questions answered...

We went back and used Blue Nile for our mothers' gifts and they were equally accommodating.

My FH wanted a plain 4mm platinum band. We were quoted $900 from both Robbins Bros and the Jewelry Exchange. Blue Nile had exactly what he wanted for $475 no tax, no shipping. My FI built my e-ring on Blue Nile. When it came in, the band was thinner than he expected. The diamond itself was gorgeous and such a great value that he decided to keep the diamond but return the setting. Customer service was excellent and the return was painless. He uses Blue Nile all the time now for gifts to his mom and me!
