Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn

During our wedding weekend this past March (2013), Briar Patch exceeded our expectations from the venue itself to the staff. The staff at Briar Patch went above and beyond to help with last minute details that we didn't even learn about until later! Due to rainy weather, we held our ceremony inside – it was wonderful because the windows in the Gold Room allowed our guests to still see all of the beautiful scenery and there was so much natural light. One of our guests said it was beautiful to see the rain outside during our ceremony. We had our appetizers and cocktails in the Silver Room and our reception in the Gold Room and when everything was set up and the chandeliers on, it was more beautiful than we had imagined. Many of our guests asked us how we found this place and raved about what a great venue it was both outside and in. We also loved that we could stay at Briar Patch during the weekend and have some out of town friends with young kids stay in the main house. It was great to have all of that beautiful space outside for the kids and adults to play and the cottage and b&b were lovely. The hot tub and delicious breakfasts were a definite highlight as well. We also found wonderful accommodations for the rest of our out of town guests at the Staybridge in Chantilly about a half hour away (we had shuttles provided by Reston Limo and Staybridge which worked out very well). Overall, we would highly recommend Briar Patch – thank you Dan, Ellen, Tricia and Henriette!

We can't thank Dan, Ellen, Henriette and staff for making our wedding weekend perfect! We had the property from wednesday-sunday which allowed our extended family to join us for Thanksgiving dinner and used the venue for our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception as well! Having the whole family together in the main house was also a fantastic advantage since no one had to travel to/from hotel. Despite the weather dropping 30 degrees from the rehearsal dinner friday and having to change our ceremony plans from outside on the front lawn and moving it indoors, everyone came together as a team and made it happen! We couldn't ask for better staff and accommodations for our big day and can't wait to return for our complimentary anniversary visit, as well as wine tours and exploring the beautiful surroundings in Middleburg, VA. STOP!!! Don't look anywhere else!!! Greatest venue EVER!

Wow, what an amazing venue. We were nervous having our wedding outside in November. But we lucked out with sunny skies and 60 degree weather. In case of bad weather, they have a great indoor option as well.

Approximately 200 of our guests sat on top of the hill overlooking the mountains of Virginia. After the ceremony, our guests made their way into the Fox Den (on the same property) for appetizer hour and entertainment. Dinner followed and the night went on. Oh! And we had our rehearsal dinner at The Fox Den the night before our wedding as well and they let us put up decorations for the next day.

Charlotte and Henrietta were such great people to work with. Their calming personalities ensured we would have a great wedding. They responded quickly and were always ready and provided us anything we needed. Dan was great ensuring they would work with our budget.

We did a lot of research, (probably like you right now :) ) and we are so happy and blessed with our decision. Million dollar views, amazing staff members, rooms for your guests and cottage for the wedding couple to stay in over night all for an extremely good price. I would book before someone takes your date!

The Briar Patch was a wonderful place to hold our wedding weekend. It was beautiful, clean and the staff was organized. We had a Friday-Sunday event, utilizing the full site and had a very positive experience.

Briar Patch served as the ultimate ceremony and reception spot for our weekend wedding. From the moment we checked in, our guests had a perfect weekend. When the rain came on Saturday, the Briar Patch provided us with a stunning indoor ceremony site. The whole weekend was full of country charm and wedding perfection!

We also used Henriette Buell of Buelltiful Events, and one of the Briar Patch managers, as our leading up to and day of coordinator. I honestly can't say enough about Henriette and her ability to create my dream wedding. She was absolutely amazing and I could not have done it without her. When everything had to move inside she kept me stress free and made decorating decisions that were stunning. I absolutely, 100% recommend Henriette if you want a stress-free dream day!!!

The minute we came up the driveway for the first time on our initial "reconnaissance mission," we knew the Briar Patch would be the perfect venue for our son's Labor Day wedding ... and we weren't disappointed.

The grounds are lovely; the guest rooms and "honeymoon cottage" are charming; the reception space is beautiful and versatile; the staff are warm and thoughtful. And having the whole place to ourselves for two days made it possible for my son and his new wife to have exactly the wedding they wanted: family and friends close by throughout the weekend, plenty of time to install the DIY décor and add personal touches, the natural beauty of an outdoor ceremony under the oaks, followed by the air-conditioned comfort of a cocktail hour and reception in the gorgeous Fox Den (very welcome on such a humid weekend!). When all that comes at an exceptional value, as well, the Briar Patch is nearly too good to be true.

If you want a wedding in the Virginia countryside, you owe it to yourself to check out the Briar Patch. You won't be disappointed...

We selected Briar Patch for a few main reasons:

First, the property and surrounding area is beautiful. There's rolling hills and white fences and horses and gorgeous sunsets. You really can't get much better on the east coast.

Second, the reception hall is absolutely breathtaking. It's simple yet so elegant, and any bride who looks at the glass chandeliers and the view from the windows will fall in love immediately!

Third (and most important to us), your one-day wedding can actually turn into a full weekend of celebration! We had the grounds, the reception hall, the house, and the pool for our friends and family from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. We had our rehearsal dinner onsite in the Bronze Fox room and a pool party for out-of-town guests afterward. The day of the wedding, several family members came by just to relax by the pool and hot tub. This also means you can stay in one place, avoiding traveling from salon to ceremony to reception the day-of. That is invaluable. So, you really do get a LOT for your money.

Last, but not least, the Briar Patch offers a day-of coordinator. Henriette at Buelltiful Events is an invaluable resource! Hiring her was some of the best money we spent toward the wedding. I cannot stress how important it is to use her if you select Briar Patch as your venue.

Moreover, all staff at the Briar Patch are very helpful. They are very responsive, polite, and accommodating. We think that our wedding was the best we've ever been to...and our guests kept complimenting us on the venue.

The only reason I'm giving the quality of service less that 5 stars is that I thought that staff could do a better job on the landscaping around the house (for example, the ferns on the front porch were half-dead). Also, the pool area could be cleaner. However, these were by no means deal-breakers, just things I would recommend improving.

Such a fantastic venue! When my now husband and I started looking for venues we knew we did not want to have our ceremony in a traditional, ballroom location with no windows. We were looking at lots of random locations, but once we got to Briar Patch we knew this is where we would have our reception. The flexibility that you have to bring in your own caterer, and alcohol was important to us since we wanted to serve the beer from the brewery we live above.

The other selling point was that we would have the entire location to ourselves from Friday 4pm until Sunday at noon. Our bridal party stayed in the main house, while we were in the cottage on Saturday night. We also had our pool-side Crab Feast rehearsal dinner here.

The only thing I might have changed would have been to have one particular person to work with. I didn’t feel like I had one contact, and sometimes I would get emailed back by a few different people. None of it caused any trouble, but I was pretty organized and didn’t need much help. But if you are looking for a place that will have a coordinator working with you the entire time, that’s not something I got. However, other reviews felt that they did. Also, be aware you will have to do most the set-up and take down yourselves, but I have a helpful family so that wasn’t a problem.

However, Dan and his team are good at answering any questions you might have during or before the big day!

Aaron and I had our entire "wedding weekend" at the fabulous Briar Patch B&B! We had a small intimate rehearsal dinner and wedding on the lush grounds and like us, our guests enjoyed their time there immensely!

We had only 35 people at the rehearsal, and originally slated to be held on the patio (overlooking the lovely view of the Blue Ridge Mtns), storms in the area had other plans! With no hassle we were able to move everything into the bronze room and it was perfect!! If you are looking to have an outdoor wedding..this place is great! If it is hot, go inside to the AC! If it rains or snows...go inside! The staff at the Briar Patch (especially Henriette, their on site coordinator) make it so easy to transition, there is no stress!

Our wedding ceremony was also on the grounds, underneath a gorgeous oak tree near a beautiful fence. The area is quiet and the tree throws perfect shade for guests! The chairs for the ceremony are cute and the arbors to choose from are fabulous!

Our reception was held in the Gold Fox room. Before the wedding Henriette showed me all the hard work she and the other staff had put into dressing the tables and placing my decorations....AMAZING! I cried as I saw what an amazing job everyone had done to make my wedding dreams a reality.

Henriette is an amazing coordinator with a great eye for detail and creativity. She also is very professional and kind, always willing to listen to an agitated bride's rant! On short notice she secured me a new caterer ONE WEEK before the wedding! In short, Henriette is a MUST when having your wedding at the Briar Patch, especially if you are planning from a far (like we did).

Ellen, Dan, Henriette, and Charlotte are the BEST! They are all understanding, supportive, and kind! ALL of our guests came from outside of VA (Massachusetts, Kansas, New Jersey, Ohio, and California!) and they all raved about the service, the beautiful rooms, and many said they felt as if they were "at home" while staying in the main house! Two of my bridesmaids even were able to check in early, free of charge, due to travel difficulties.

The price of the BP is also something to note. In an area of VA that can be very expensive, Briar Patch does a wonderful job of keeping with in a Bride's budget....when my husband and I found out the price of a WHOLE WEEKEND...we immediately signed up! (You can rent the entire main house, grounds, cottage, and reception venue....no one can bother you all weekend!)

I could rant on and on, but in the end the Briar Patch and it's staff made our day, and the day for our families the best we could ever ask for!

We couldn't have asked for a better setting and better people to work with for our wedding weekend! Not only is The Briar Patch a gorgeous venue from the beautiful grounds (perfect for our ceremony) to the Fox Den room for our reception, the staff were so accommodating and such a pleasure to work with. They were flexible and very responsive to our many questions and did everything they could to ensure we had the best experience -- both during planning and while we were there. Having the venue for the 2 nights/3 days was an added bonus... We loved breakfast the next day with our family and bridal party and had a great Memorial Day decompressing at the pool! Can't wait to go back!!

Our Monday afternoon wedding at Briar Patch was stunning. The staff here (Dan, Henriette and Charlotte) are the backbone of this amazing venue. It rained all day (we had planned the majority of the wedding outside) and I didn't even mind because of the warmth and attention the staff provided us.

We found Briar Patch online and emailed them for quotes. This was one of the few places I contacted that was honest and forthright with the costs, and they are incredibly prompt in their replies. The value of Briar Patch is unprecedented. We had sole access to the entire venue, and our guests were able to stay on site. They provided a delicious home-cooked breakfast each day, and the scenery is incredible.

We found our DJ and caterer through Briar Patch and were THRILLED with their recommendations. They know the vendors in Northern Virginia and have a knack for connecting you with honest, open, flexible vendors like themselves.

I was not always excited by the prospect of planning a wedding, and the staff here made me excited to have my wedding. They answered all of my questions, helped me when I needed clarification and were understanding if I was running behind. The rooms were cozy, warm, comfortable and loaded with old fashioned charm. The Fox Den was a perfect reception space and provided me with a beautiful, dry ceremony space as well.

I HIGHLY recommend Briar Patch for your wedding. You will be supported all the way through your wedding day. You will be able to enjoy your day without stress or worries. You will also feel as if you have been taken in as part of the family, and that is amazing just by itself.

We were happy with Briar Patch up to the night of the wedding. We had sent them a proposal for the day of even with the timeline of when things will happen which got approved. So our plan was to have the ceremony, reception and the after party at the venue. When it was time to move the after party to another room (which we had informed them and it was approved) so that the caterers can clean up, they shut us down and told us that we could not do it. We were thoroughly confuse and dumb founded by the news. It turn out fine because we were able to move the after party to the pool area. It was just nice to know in advance either by them or if it was written in the contract that we couldn't use a room after certain time. It would have been helpful if they had provided us with a day of coordinator, which most venues provide. Overall, the venue was beautiful and the owners and staff are nice, but we wish we had known the "unspoken" rules before hand. Their communication skills (by the owners and staff) is extremely poor.

The Briar Patch ended up being the perfect venue for both our ceremony and reception. They have a highly competent staff that was always responsive to questions over email or phone and highly organized. My wife and I weren’t looking to break the bank with our wedding and the Briar Patch was extremely flexible with wedding packages on Sundays that are very affordable for what you get…which is complete run of the entire complex which includes their recently built reception hall, cottage for the bride/grooms, 6 rooms for your core guests, pool, Jacuzzi, tables and chairs for indoor services/reception, outdoor chairs for ceremonies, etc. Many places we looked at nickel and dime you for each additional item, but the Briar Patch’s pricing structure is very straightforward in that they include everything. The staff there was always eager to help with questions and to make recommendations along the way as well. We went up to the Briar Patch several times for brainstorming and everyone we met was more than happy to help us with ideas and provide insight into things we would have never thought about. Aside from the awesome staff and all inclusive accommodations, you also get a great atmosphere holding your event at the Briar Patch. You are in your own little world out there surrounded by the beautiful landscape. We had a lot of family come from out of town and they couldn’t believe how beautiful VA was! Thank you Briar Patch, you made our day beautiful and seamless both for us and for our guests!

We are so pleased with our choice to have our wedding at Briar Patch - a totally beautiful venue. When you book your wedding at Briar Patch, you get the whole place for the weekend – you arrive Friday and don’t leave until Sunday and you’re the only guests at the bed and breakfast. We felt like we had a private enclave for our wedding celebration and got some great quality time with our families and guests who were staying with us at the B&B. Much of our wedding party and family travelled from out of the area, and we really enjoyed sitting around the breakfast table together or in the hot tub relaxing and reconnecting before the wedding!

Reserving the venue for the whole weekend makes Briar Patch a bit more expensive than some other venues, but it was so worth it. Because we had the venue for the whole weekend, we could be very relaxed about set up and break down – no rush, rush, rush that I’ve experienced at wedding venues where you reserve the space for only six hours. Because we had the time and the space at Briar Patch, we were able to save money in other areas, such as by doing our own flowers and decorations and music. Because we had the venue to ourselves all weekend, we were also able to save money (and hassle!) on the rehearsal dinner by bringing a caterer to Briar Patch instead of paying restaurant prices.

Another advantage of Briar Patch is that the ballroom is beautiful to begin with so you don’t need a lot of decorations to spruce up the place. There’s a beautiful stone fireplace, the chairs (tables and chairs are included in the price!) are lovely, and the curtains around the windows are quite decorative. Briar Patch also has classy fake trees you can use to decorate the space if you’d like and has oil lamps and decorative birdcages you can use for table decorations. We used these and not only saved ourselves a mountain of stress and hassle in designing table decorations but got great compliments from our guests! The way the space is designed, you can also do everything all in the same place, which helps minimize travel for everyone. We had our ceremony indoors in the ballroom but the grounds are beautiful and perfect for an outdoor wedding (and Briar Patch has outdoor chairs you use – no need to rent additional chairs!). We got beautiful pictures on the grounds after the ceremony.

And finally, the Briar Patch team was great to work with. In the months leading up to the wedding, the team was always very responsive, answering our questions quite quickly and thoroughly. It was confusing at first when someone I didn’t expect responded to an email, but I quickly got used to this and appreciated that everyone on the team was up-to-speed on the details of my wedding and everyone can answer questions! Briar Patch was also able to recommend local vendors, which really helped us narrow our vendor search and gave us confidence that we were looking at vendors whose good reputations preceded them. All in all, we highly, highly recommend Briar Patch for your special day!

A wonderful family run business - you'll have amazing freedom of the grounds!

The people at Briar Patch were WONDERFUL!!! I would reccomend this venue to anyone, anywhere! The venue is very reasonably priced compared to other locations in the area, and it doesn't hurt that the table and chairs are included in the price, as well as exclusive rights to the property from Friday- Sunday. Also it made it so simple to have a place to stash our out of town guests that was comfortable and adoreable. The location made for beautiful pictures!

I work for the Department of State and am stationed in India with my husband. When we were planning our wedding, we were looking for a flexible venue where we could fit all of our friends and family, including a couple night stay so everyone could get reacquainted.

The Briar Patch is where my husband and I were engaged a year before, and we loved the country elegance of the house/property, and all the amenities.

Dan, Henrietta, Charlotte and the entire team worked with us over the short 4 months planning period to arrange a spectacular wedding for more than 65 guests. The entire Briar Patch team is experienced organizing events and are very willing to put that expertise to work for their clients or back off and let the Bride plan her day according to her wishes. I was not sure my husband and I were going to be able to pull off a wedding planned in four months from overseas (our friends and family were a little concerned too), but thanks to the Briar Patch and their excellent recommendations for service providers we had our dream wedding for less than our budget! which by the way was less than $10,000!!!!!

For my December wedding venue, I wanted to find a place that has the peaceful look and feel of the beautiful rolling hills of Virginia wineries. I also wanted a place easily accessible to out-of-towners, and one that was more personal than a hotel. With a driveway off Route 50 where there is only one lane in either direction, Briar Patch is quiet and easy to reach by car. It’s a 20 minute drive from Chantilly, VA.

From my first email exchange with owner Dan (great sense of humor!), I received personal attention from the entire staff. I also knew that just about anyone in the office could help me if I had any questions. Dan, especially, clearly welcomed the opportunity to help us find any other vendors or services we needed. When I asked about caterers that used local products, he promptly rattled off a list of half a dozen.

My husband and I both liked that we had exclusive access to Briar Patch, including the reception space and the sleeping rooms. The basic wedding package includes all the reception rooms, the grounds, the Cottage (a full en-suite perfect for the new couple!), and the two ground-floor en-suite bedrooms, and a delicious plentiful breakfast. Everything is very well maintained.

Because we had our wedding on a Sunday afternoon (ask about the Briar Patch Sunday Specials!), our access didn’t start until 12:30pm because of the Saturday night wedding. While that was a bit inconvenient, we were easily able to get to Briar Patch the morning of our wedding from the Staybridge Chantilly. It was also a bummer because Briar Patch is so relaxing, but my husband I stayed in the Cottage for three extra nights.

The one glitch was minor and related to the bedrooms upstairs. I was told people would only be able to reserve a bedroom after I gave the okay. There was one couple who needed to be recontacted and asked to move their reservation to the hotel where we had booked a block of rooms.

Over coffee in the breakfast room one morning, we felt so at home that my husband even made the observation that this is exactly the type of place we would like to come home to with our kids. Dan and Ellen – I think we’ll be back! Overall, my early confidence when I met Dan, Henriette, Charlotte, Susan and Jamah was right on target. Thank you for helping us start our marriage in a beautiful comfortable place.

I fell in love with Briar Patch from the very first moment we drove up. The grounds, reception hall, and especially the little wedding cottage are just amazing. My husband and I wanted something more personal than a hotel, and Briar Patch fit the bill perfectly. Our wedding was outside and every single guest commented that the view was incredible. Our reception was inside one of the Fox rooms, our cocktail hour and photo booth were both in the smaller Fox areas; each one was perfect. We only had about 75 guests, and in no way did things feel too big or squished. Briar Patch staff were so accommodating; they were switching around the names of my overnight guests up until the very last minute. From a budget standpoint, I do wish that more had been included in the price, but I loved the venue so much that I didn't really mind. Plus, we received a good deal for having our wedding on Sunday, instead of Saturday. I look at the pictures everyday and each time fall in love again with the beauty of Briar Patch.

Briar Patch was absolutely perfect. We wanted to have as casual and intimate a wedding as you could with nearly 200 people, and Briar Patch was just right. It was beautiful and scenic, but also warm and cozy. And with enough options that even a big group doesn't feel claustrophobic - we had the ceremony, cocktails, dinner, dancing, and outdoor bars all in different locations so the whole party was moving and comfortable. And being able to stay there with our wedding party was the best! No limos or hotel rooms or leaving - you can set up friday and clear out sunday knowing you'll be taken care of the whole way. And Henriette and her team are just the nicest - they totally know their stuff and are really good about telling you what will work and making everything perfect. Oh, and they employ phenomenal cooks. Breakfast was amazing!

We cannot say enough good things about the Briar Patch! It was so beautiful, and everyone was so helpful throughout the entire process. Someone always responded promptly to every email we sent, and they were always quick to do everything in their power to help us customize the perfect wedding weekend. We loved being able to have the entire B&B exclusively to ourselves for the entire weekend as it really gave the wedding weekend a much more personal feel than other weddings we have attended. The breakfasts were very good, and they accommodated our desire to have the bride and bridesmaids eat in the cottage away from everyone else the morning of the wedding. Really, the Briar Patch was perfect, and we definitely hope we get invited to another wedding there! If you are looking for a laid back, drama-free venue, check this place out.

The Briar Patch is a wonderful wedding venue. There were a few things I would have loved to be different, but overall, it was a positive experience. Our photos are just AMAZING because of the grounds and surrounding area (forest/trees, etc).

We held our weekend wedding here and everyone just raved about it! We were loking for a place where our whole family could be together for a few days and relax instead of running all over DC for events- and it was a smashing success! So many compliments from guests about this venue- too many to list! The views, the yard area for the ceremony, big front porch, and the reception hall, all add to how cozy and wonderful this place is. We could not have been happier the entire weekend.

I have to say the staff was especially helpful, JP, Charlotte and Dan were genuinely happy to help in any way, and let us have the run of the place. JP was always willing to help in any way he could, along with his other duties. I feel it's important to note the owners were very ethical about bringing in our own vendors, and there were no hidden charges for such.

Breakfast was always ready on time- and there was a great selection of this to eat. The kitchen is well stocked with snacks, drinks and fresh fruit. They even asked if we wanted breakfast earlier to accomodate our schedule!

I can't say enough good things about this place- and I'd highly recommend it to anyone considering it. We are still getting comments from people!

We had a beautiful and fun small intimate wedding! This was thanks to the beautiful scenic venue and the personable customer service, at the Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast. Being great procrastinators, Nate and I started our wedding plans in March of this year. We looked at several venues and none seemed to speak to us, until a friend of mine in passing recommended that I look at the Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast in Midlleburg Virginia. From our first communication with Henrietta at the Briar Patch we knew that it would be a worthy drive and place to see. During our site visit we were impressed by the scenic view, lodging facilities and amenities, the beautiful reception hall and reasonable price. Our wedding took place on Sunday, Columbus day weekend and Charlotte and the rest of the staff,were fantastic in making our families comfortable and at home. The staff was very personable and very attentive to our requests. On behalf of our family and friends thank you!!

This was the most beautiful place to have our wedding. They were nothing but helpful from the start and everoyne who came to the wedding thought the venue was perfect. They made us feel at home and accommodated every request that was made of them. We had a wonderful weekend - maybe next time we can use the pool and hot tub if it isn't too cold. We will be back a hundred times over - I would recommend this place to anyone!

Briar Patch was just beautiful and the unique reception venue we wanted. The value comes in the fact you get the entire property from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Other places charged almost as much for only 8 hours of time the day of your event and certainly didn't have 9 rooms for lodging with breakfast!

In general, they are very responsive. However, their professionalism lacks. They don't seem to maintain files by client for an event. I do not live in the area and had to rely on e-mail and a visit only when I had a trip to the area. I made an appointment to come down to talk through some final details about 6 weeks before our event which is what we were told to do. When we arrived, they acted like they didn't know we were coming or who we were. The answers to our questions were not helpful that day. My recommendation is to keep your own file of information. Send everything a week to two weeks prior to your event. There was some staff turnover in the months leading up to our event and everytime I would call or e-mail, I got someone different. It would be helpful if Briar Patch assigned one staff member to manage an event and be the main contact for a client instead of working with the person who happens to be working that day or picks up your e-mail.

The Fox Den was just beautiful. No need to rent chairs or tables as they already have the highly-sought chivari chairs. Briar Patch has some good ideas for different things you can do and they have some great vendor recommendations. Overall, they are very flexible. The Inn is charming and comfortable. Our guests really enjoyed it. Breakfast was good too - great quiches and fresh pancakes were just want we needed Sunday morning. Our compliments to Charlotte who worked the day of our event and even took on baby-sitting. She was especially kind, friendly, and helpful.

Dan and the rest of the Briar Patch staff were extraordinary in the level of service they provided us with. From the time we first visited while searching for a venue, they were attentive, responsive, accommodating, and all around nice people to work with.

They were flexible through the planning process as well. Our wedding day went off without a hitch. Everyone went above and beyond what was expected. For example, it was a hot September afternoon and during our pictures after the ceremony Dan was bringing cups of cold water to all of us while we were photographed under the sun.

We have recommended and continue to recommend the Briar Patch to all of our friends and family, we have no regrets about our decision.

Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast saw to it that our wedding was a success through Hurricane Irene. :) The staff is warm & accommodating. The venue is beautiful! We were planning on having our wedding ceremony outside but with the torrential downpours we had to relocate inside. Everything worked out smoothly and it was still beautiful.

We had our rehearsal dinner Friday night at the pool. It was the only time the whole weekend it was dry! The dinner was casual and relaxing with BBQ, wine, and lots of pie! The bridal party all hung out in the hot tub and enjoyed champagne after dinner. Many guests also took a dip in the pool.

The bridal cottage is so adorable, and the bath-tub was so relaxing! It has a lovely window you can look out of, and it is HUGE! We enjoyed listening to the rain fall on the roof, having our own kitchen, and just having a private space to retire to after the wedding.

Our guests enjoyed the charming Inn. Breakfasts were delicious and we very much enjoyed having our families close by. It allowed us to spend quality time re-connecting with old relatives and getting to know new ones. We loved that Briar Patch posted the guest's names on the bedroom doors. It is little touches like this that made us so happy.

Briar Patch sent out plenty of e-mails to the wedding couples of Summer 2011, updating us on various happenings, and filling us in with important information before our respective events. They are good about responding in a timely manner, too.

The only issue we had was when my mother-in-law, my mom, and myself (the bride) asked to come re-tour the grounds and talk to someone about last minute details, no one was there! This is despite setting up and confirming a time and date! The staff apologized profusely and when we came back again all of our questions and concerns were addressed.

We loved our wedding weekend, and everyone commented on how "epic" it was! We're only sad that it's over. We are already talking about a renewal ceremony!

My husband and I planned the ultimate do it yourself wedding at the Briar Patch in August. The staff was apprehensive at first, with their extensive experience they are well aware of all the work wedding planning entails, but they were extremely accommodating and helpful. Their in-house wedding planner, although already booked for the day of our event, was a great resource throughout our planning. The entire staff is friendly and helpful; they had everything cleaned and set up when we arrived, which was such a huge help! You could really tell that the staff at the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast (including the wonderful owners) truly cared about how our event turned out. It was a pleasure working with everyone there, and my husband and I look forward to returning on our anniversary!

When we started planning our wedding, my husband and I were living in California. My original wedding location was scrapped after three months planning. Not being there in person to check out any locations first hand, I put out messages to everyone I knew asking for suggestions. More than a handful of people, none of whom knew each other, immediately recommended Briar Patch. After working with them, I can see why.
The owners and their staff were so friendly and willing to provide recommendations and suggestions. They responded to every email and phone call in a timely manner.
The location of the B&B is amazingly beautiful. Very country and idyllic year round. The B&B and cottage are well decorated and quaint. The pool area was great for our day-after BBQ with family and friends. Breakfast every morning was amazing. We loved being able to spend the entire weekend with our immediate family and four-legged love all on the same property.
The day of the wedding was completely amazing. We had our ceremony at the top of the hill. Despite it being hot, the wind was blowing and the large tree provided shade for the guests. The pictures are worth a thousand words. I cannot say enough how much I would recommend them.
And BONUS, if hubby and I feel like being romantic, we can always get-away for a night at the B&B and relive the best day of our lives.

The guest rooms are delightful and our overnight guests were really made to feel welcome by the staff(Henriette).
We had a small wedding(40)and were worried when choosing a location that our guests would feel lost in a large ballroom situation, but when we found The Briar Patch,our worries were over!.

I would recommend this to any bride and groom who want a relaxed and beautiful place to get married. The whole vibe is friendly and has a family feel--from the owners to all the staff members. It is an small, unpretentious, bright, and incredibly welcoming group of people who own and operate the property. I would never change this for any other venue. And our fat chocolate lab was present at the wedding, which of course was an amazing benefit of holding our ceremony there.

I loved the Briar Patch. I only had the reception here, but it was gorgeous! Their staff is easy to work with and very accommodating. It's a little on the pricier side since you have to rent all the rooms in the B&B for the weekend (if you do a Saturday wedding). However, the day went smoothly and my husband and I had the time of our lives. If I ever got married again, I'd totally use the Briar Patch!

We got married at the Briar Patch on May 15, 2011. Its the perfect location for a spring wedding. The ceremony was outside; followed by the reception inside. The staff was great!

I wish I could give them 10 stars for flexibility. The staff at the Briar Patch are excellent, and really work to make your wedding day exactly what you want. Dan was especially helpful all year with updates and suggestions for everything from transportation to wedding dress shopping. We couldn't have gotten married in a better place, the grounds are beautiful, the breakfast is fantastic, and there are Horses! I wouldn't change a thing.

We just married this April 30, 2011. I fell in love with the Briar Patch the first time we visited it. We chose to have our ceremony on the hilltop, our cocktail hour on the front lawn, and then our reception in the Fox Den. We got so many complements on the day and the venue. Our guests enjoyed it as much as we did. We had our rehearsal dinner in the Fox Den too. It was wonderful to have the whole place for the weekend of our wedding. It made getting ready and preparing that day lower stress because we didn't need to travel to a second location. Our family was able to relax on the front porch and spend time with each other before and after the wedding. We had 108 people and had plenty of space. We had our family stay at the B&B and shuttled in the rest of the guest from hotels in Chaintilly. Overall, the Briar Patch was just wonderful. The breakfast both mornings was tasty. We keep getting complements from all of our guests. It really was perfect.

I didn't get married at Briar Patch but I did spend the night there the night before my wedding and also on my wedding night. The night before I stayed with my bridesmaids and we were absolutely pampered in their adorable cottage! The setting was gorgeous and the staff at Briar Patch were super helpful. Breakfast was to die for and the cottage was just the right size for all the pre-wedding makeup and hair stuff. My new husband was so impressed with the cottage when he saw it after our wedding and the B&B made sure we had an early breakfast to take with us when we left the next morning for our honeymoon. Highly recommend the Briar Patch (and its cottage) as a fabulous pre-wedding overnight - oh, and the hot tub was a great bonus, too :)

We loved what the Briar Patch had to offer for our wedding. The main house is beautiful, the Fox Den is elegant, and the cottage is cozy and quaint. No other places could offer us so much flexibility, charm, and peacefulness in such a beautiful setting.

The ability for the bride and the groom to have separate places to get ready and then after the reception to have total privacy and yet still have friends and family just a few feet away was perfect for us.

The Briar Patch’s wonderful country setting helped to bring a sense of serenity and ease that we could not find in any suburban venues. We searched for months and Briar Patch was the best place by far for the intimate wedding that we wanted to have. We delighted in the fact that you got to use the Bed and Breakfast for two days. That helped us get settled in and comfortable before the wedding and then you were able to go relax after the wedding. For me that made things so much less stressful.

The Fox Den was a perfect fit. We had the service in the bronze fox room, the bar was in the kitchenette, hors devours were served in the silver fox room, and we had the reception and dancing in the gold fox room.

We had our wedding at the Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn in March and were thrilled with the results. The owners were incredibly flexible to work with and couldn't have been nicer. There were so many options of locations on-site to have our ceremony - both outside and inside - that we were really able to make the wedding exactly what we wanted. The location boasted unique backdrops for pictures and an event hall that was the perfect size for our 130-person affair. Even with its rusticity, we were able to have an elegant wedding that would not be overdone. The manager of the Inn also provides day-of wedding coordination for a price that can't be beat, and it was well worth the cost of having her help. She knew all the ins-and-outs of the buildings and coordinated with all of our vendors. The only reason that we gave it 4 stars for value is because it is indeed expensive, and the shower in the cottage is really, really tiny. But it was so special to have all of our wedding party on-site during the entire wedding weekend, and the breakfast Saturday morning and Sunday brunch were just perfect. We are so glad that we chose to have our wedding at the Briar Patch!

The Briar Patch was the perfect place for us to have our "destination wedding." We wanted to have a wedding that was more than a 5 hour event, but wanted it to be close enough that everyone could come. Briar Patch did both. We were able to have our family stay Friday to Sunday at the B&B and we organized wine tastings, hikes and antiquing throughout the weekend so friends and family could enjoy each other, themselves and us for a meaningful amount of time. The location is perfect for accommodating all of this, and Dan and Ellen are very accommodating people.

We held our rehearsal dinner at the B&B, cooking it ourselves (a big ham and turkey dinner) in their kitchen. It was a small enough event, that we had it set up in the house and onto the patio. They were flexible in accommodating this rather unusual request. They pulled over the fire pit and we roasted marshmallows and just hung out for the evening. They were very helpful in making sure things were set up in time.

Our breakfast was very pleasant and the house is well set up for just conversing and being with family. It was great to be together like this. Everyone enjoyed their rooms and staying at the house.

The big day of was lovely. The grounds were a perfect backdrop for our Autumn wedding. Dan drove the ladies and I up to the hilltop and he acted as a sort of fatherly figure while I stood at the top awaiting my cue to walk down the "tree-lined aisle". As we head to the reception, they helped make sure everything was in place and that our "wedding team" had what they needed to run the show. Ellen and Dan gave us use of their hurricane lamps, trellis for the flowers and other such things that saved us money and added a nice touch to the decor. They also have the chairs and tables, which save quite a bit as well. Our vendors also liked Briar Patch. A couple had not worked here before, but found it very accommodating and easy to use.

I highly recommend the Briar Patch to any bride who wants a laid back weekend wedding at the same prices as a 5 hour event. It is perfect for the bride who appreciates the natural beauty of the outdoors and open spaces. The old house and cottage are charming (The cottage was such a fun place for the bridesmaids, female family and I just to hang out!). The reception hall has a nice blend of elegance and rustic-ness to match the meadow setting. All in all, it was a perfect place for us!

Choosing the reception venue is one of the first steps in planning a wedding. This decision affects nearly all other vendor decisions, as the venue sets the atmosphere for the big day. Not a choice to be taken lightly, we reviewed over 2,000 venues on-line, and created a spreadsheet with the details of over 100 venues in order to compare and contrast our options. As we slowly whittled the list down to the 10 or 20 we planned on visiting, we began enjoying the Briar Patch more and more before even seeing it. We reviewed testimonials, looked at pictures, and corresponded with the Briar Patch staff on logistics and ideas. However it was not until we arrived at Briar Patch Lane in scenic Middleburg, Virginia that we truly appreciated what Briar Patch had to offer, and within 15 minutes of experiencing the beautiful bed and breakfast, our decision was made.

The Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast is one of the most gorgeous wedding venues we’d ever seen. It’s both elegant and rustic, a combination almost unattainable, particularly in the greater D.C. metro area. We were married at the top of the grounds, overlooking the autumn trees, nearby vineyards, and Briar Patch horse stable. The scenery was breathtaking, and enjoyed by all of our guests. The photographers for our wedding had no trouble finding numerous outdoor and indoor photographs of the day, and capturing the perfect country atmosphere.

The Fox Den reception hall at the Briar Patch is very elegant, a converted barn,and offerswith all the character one would want for their wedding, along with elegance. While we chose to be married outdoors on the hill, the Fox Den is a beautiful alternative for the ceremony, as well as cocktail hour and the reception. The hall fits up to 200 guests, and gives the bride and groom options for how to set up the reception, with two patios and two additional rooms. This made it possible to have the guests all together for key parts of the reception, as well as allow guests to enjoy a quiet chat, or get some fresh air. The Briar Patch staff helped our caterer set up the room in a way that created a fun atmosphere, including an ample dance floor and plenty of seating. The rooms transform quickly, as we enjoyed the previous night’s rehearsal dinner, the cocktail hour, and the reception all in the Fox Den.

The bed and breakfast itself is a quaint house with tremendous character, and captures the history of the Virginia countryside. Our immediate family members enjoyed the 8 bedrooms in the house, while the bride’s friends kept her company the night before the wedding in the bridal cottage. The bridal cottage was absolutely perfect for the bride and bridesmaids – local hairstylists from Lil's Grapevine Beauty Salon came in on the wedding day and styled the bridesmaids’ hair. The bride particularly loved having the bridal cottage right there – she could easily go back in there to use the restroom, touch up make-up and even just catch her breath with her brand new husband before joining the party. There was no need for the bride to worry about cleaning up her things or even bringing anything with her – as it was all right there. The Briar Patch staff helped tremendously throughout the preparation, and always kept the house clean and well stocked. Breakfast both days was also amazing, and on Sunday was a perfect end to a perfect weekend.

We particularly loved having all parts of the wedding in a single location. One of the main reasons we chose the Briar Patch was so we and our families could enjoy it for the entire weekend – our families could get to know each other better, and there was no pressure that going from one place to another involves. We loved having all parts of the wedding in a single location. It was amazing to arrive on Friday morning, and enjoy a beautiful wedding weekend, without having to leave the venue until Sunday afternoon. We and our families could truly just enjoy it! This not only made the weekend more enjoyable for us and our families, but also greatly simplified much of the process. We would highly recommend Briar Patch as the perfect wedding venue in the D.C./Northern Virginia area.

We had an amazing weekend at Briar Patch! The staff there for set-up, were completely flexible and so easy to work with. Breakfast was very casual and delactable. We had the perfect day for a perfect wedding, and would 100% recommend Briar Patch to all of our friends.

Dan, Ellen, Henrietta, and Jennifer did an excellent job with our wedding. Dan was our contact at the beginning, Jennifer and Henrietta helped out in the planning process, and Henrietta was there for the day of and breakfast the next morning. For our October wedding, we had perfect weather --70s and sunny--(so lucky!) and our ceremony at the top of the hill was stunning. We were able to use the trellis which they had on site there. Henrietta drove the bride (me) and wedding party up and down the hill in their van. When we were actually ahead of schedule after the family photos, she brought us (bride and groom) glasses of champagne and appetizers from the cocktail hour, since we weren't supposed to be introduced until after the cocktail hour was over. This was wonderful, as my husband and I then had some downtime to relax and celebrate before the rest of the event. Later we used the hurricane lamps that were complimentary for our centerpieces, which was a big help cost-wise. I found out later Henrietta also helped to clean and set out all of the hurricane lamps, which was above and beyond what we were expecting. The breakfast Henrietta served the next morning was one of the best I've ever had, and all of my guests raved about it. We enjoyed an after-party at the pool later, and my fiance and I stayed in the cottage, which was so quaint and also was a perfect setting for my preparation photos earlier that day. In addition to all this, we were also able to go to the venue multiple times before the ceremony to help plan things out. Since my fiance and I were doing two rather complicated ballroom dances during our reception, it was a big help to be able to practice these in the room where we would be. So thanks again, everyone at Briar Patch--we recommend you highly!!

We LOVED the Briar Patch! It is a beautiful venue and the owners and employees were outstanding to work with. They have the most flexible, accommodating staff! Both of our families stayed at the Briar Patch for the weekend, which allowed us to spend time together and take our sweet time getting things ready. Everyone always says that your wedding day goes by in a flash, but we were able to enjoy every minute of ours because we were not rushing around to get things done, as you have to do when you have your wedding/reception at a venue where you get a 6-8 hour time block.

From the first visit to the Briar Patch through to the day after our wedding we can not say enough good things about the site and everyone who works there. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, the b&b is adorable, the Fox Den is beautiful and the people are beyond wonderful. Throughout the planning there wasn't a question asked that was not answered within a day. It was so great to be able to have the full wedding party stay there on Friday and Saturday nights and the breakfasts were delicious. All of our guests kept commenting how beautiful it was. Every time we'd meet with a vendor and told them the Briar Patch was our venue they would only have great things to say about working there. Thank you, Dan, Ellen, Henriette, Jennifer, Anna, JP, and Susan for providing such a wonderful setting for us -- we could not have wished for a better wedding weekend!

Great location, great owners, great facilities! It was so nice to have the Briar Patch for the whole weekend vs. some places that only allow you to be there for a few hours. It helped me relax knowing that we didn't have to rush putting the decoration up and we didn't have to rush taking everything down. It was also nice to have the ceremony, reception, and the place to sleep all in one place so I didn't have to worry about traveling to different locations!

it was truly one of the best days of my life, and the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast made it special --- and definitely brag worthy -- everyone told me how cute Middleburg was and "HOW DID YOU FIND THIS PLACE??!? The Briar Patch is the PERFECT place for a wedding! It was so nice to have the entire weekend to celebrate with our family and closest friends! The rehearsal dinner we had BBQ and a Poker tournament in the Silver Fox room. The ipod dock provided our music! The morning of the wedding we played croquet and finished the flower arrangements and other DIY project we took on to save some $. The staff was so helpful and welcoming! Very friendly and helpful with anything that you needed! After our wedding the entire wedding party went for a midnight dip in the pool under the stars! It was such a great time! We can even go back and stay for our anniversary! :)

Our wedding took place at Briar Patch in May 2010 and it was absolutely wonderful! Dan, Ellen, Henrietta, Jennifer and the rest of the BP staff really get to know you and your wedding. The Briar Patch was an amazing venue! The staff there were wonderful and the location can't be beat! It was the perfect setting for our wedding.

We had our wedding at Briar Patch in April 2010. The two things that drew us to Briar Patch were the beauty of the venue and how friendly and flexible the owers were. We were operating on a small budget and they were willing to work with us so we could have our wedding there. It ended up being a beautiful outdoor wedding right underneath the big tree out front just as I had envisioned it. We also hired one of the employees as a wedding planner and she did an amazing job coordinating the vendors, running the reception, and generally doing anything and everything. I gave her a detailed list of what I wanted done and it was all as I had requested. The best part (aside from the astetics) was that we were able to drop off all of our wine, decorations, etc. several days in advance. That helped make things at lot less stressful when it came to the big day. We were incredibly impressed with Briar Patch and would highly recommend it.

We had our March 6 wedding at the Briar Patch, and rented the whole B&B out for the weekend. It was an amazing weekend and the Briar Patch staff made it very special. The venue is very laid back and accommodating to whatever you want to do, I never heard "no" from anyone there. Our friends and family who stayed at the B&B loved the hospitality and little touches like home cooked breakfast in the morning. The Fox Den hall was a great spot for the ceremony/cocktail hour/Reception and has a good flow for the size of our 80 person wedding, as an event planner by trade it was a perfect set up. The only snag I would say we had (along with the rest of the DC area) was that the blizzards did some damage and the snow only melted about 2 weeks before our wedding so the clean up and repairs were not all completed yet by our wedding weekend. But overall amazing value, very responsive staff (especially for answering my dozens of emails leading up to the weekend), and beautiful warm place to get married.

This was a beautiful place to get married. We had options of rooms to choose from for our reception, ceremony, and rehearsal dinner...and our families and wedding party were able to stay on site. This is a very family oriented business and I would highly recommend this venue to other brides.

A five star rating for "flexibility" and "value for cost" would not even begin to describe our experience with The Briar Patch. We recently hosted our New Year's Eve wedding at this venue -- it was beautiful, elegant and a TON of fun!

My brother was recently married at our family cabin in rural Pennsylvania. I loved the fact that everyone felt at home and that no one had to leave at any particular time. This is what we were looking for in a venue for our wedding and it is exactly what we found in the Briar Patch. It felt as if we were hosting our wedding at the home of a close family member.

Throughout the 12 months that we planned our wedding with the BP, I can honestly say that I never heard the word "No"! It was incredible! Dan, the owner, did everything in his power to make sure that all of our wants and needs were fulfilled (and at a cost that would fit our budget). He stood in as the officient during our rehearsal, worked harder than anyone during the set up, drove a limo full of our guests home until 5 IN THE MORNING! And somehow he was still up with us the next morning to host an awesome breakfast with a house full of people. We drank coffee and mimosas well past our welcome and yet I never once felt as if I was a burden. It was the warmest and most relaxing experience of my life. A successful wedding behind us, and my favorite people in one place to enjoy it with.

I could not praise the BP and their staff enough for everything they did to make our wedding exactly what we wanted it to be. The owners and staff also have a wonderful relationship with MANY local vendors which made planning very easy. I could always rely on my vendors to be collaborating. There were so many stresses associated with planning a wedding and yet, I always knew that when it came to dealing with the BP - I could RELAX!

I got married at the Briar Patch in December, and despite the snow and cold, the accommodating nature of the staff at the Briar Patch allowed everything to go smoothly and it was a beautiful wedding. Also, very good value for money! You won't regret getting married at the Briar Patch.

I cannot think of a more perfect place to have a wedding - totally amazing. They are great to work with!!

It rained, but the indoor reception facility was perfect! Everyone there really works with you - very competent ownership! I would recommend to ANY bride!

My husband and I rented this facility for the entire weekend for our rehearsal and wedding. This B&B is the perfect place if you want a quaint, yet elegant country feel for you wedding. My family and friends were very happy with their stay and the breakfast was great.

Our only complaints lie with one employee, who made promises he could not keep, and schmoozed off our cocktail hour bar for 15 minutes, telling an inappropriate joke, while a line of guests were waiting for a drink after the ceremony. He also lied to my florist saying my mother in law and myself took all of the sashes home after the reception. Why would we do that? When I am more than aware that they need to be returned and why would I proceed to clean up right after my own reception when I have hired people to do that for us. I was very sad to hear that he said such a thing, since I had left the grounds after the wedding with happy thoughts! We had also brought our liquor and beverages to the site a few days early to store in their large fridge. When we came for the rehearsal dinner 2 days later, I went to the fridge to get 2 containers of OJ we had purchased for memosa's the day of the wedding, and found they were missing. We asked the employees, but they had no idea where they could be and denied seeing anyone take them. When I went to the cottage fridge, I found 2 opened and used containers of the same brand (wegmans) OJ with the same expiration date we had bought. I certainly do not think that was a coincidence. And I know that someone had stayed in the cottage the night before because one of the employees warned me the cottage may not be ready on time. So if you bring your liquor and beverages before hand, just make a list of what you are leaving so they(Briar Patch) can be held accountable for any missing goods.

So anyway, I would recommend this place for future bride's, just keep that warning at hand.

On another positive note, we are still receiving compliments about how beautiful everything was and how comfortable everyone felt on the site. The overall wedding was a success and that's all that really matters. We are excited to stay there for an anniversary weekend in a year or so :)

Dan, Ellen, Henrietta, and Jennifer are amazing! From our first meeting at the Briar Patch, we knew it would be a great place to host our wedding! And, we were right! Jennifer and Henrietta took great care of our family and friends! We were able to host our entire immediate families at the B&B for the weekend. The ceremony site is beautiful. And, the Fox Den reception hall is perfect for a small or large wedding. We had about 145 guests and everyone fit comfortably. All of our guests were raving about the beauty and splendor of the location. Dan made several recommendations for vendors - and, the ones we used were equally amazing. It's clear that the folks at the Briar Patch love to make your weekend/day as great as possible. Thanks to all of them for making our day so special!! I'd recommend using the Briar Patch if you're looking for an intimate and relaxed wedding!

Overall our experience with the Briar Patch was positive. They were extremely flexible in allowing us to drop off our alcohol early and anticipated the rain on our wedding day by having an indoor and outdoor option set up for us. The site has a wonderful flow and many options for any style of wedding and is just beautiful inside and out. The rooms were very charming and clean and our bridal party definitely felt as though they were staying in a cozy private house. Though the owners were very responsive to our needs, one did help himself to our rehearsal dinner barbeque without asking which while it was not big deal, it was a bit odd. He also overslept on the morning of the wedding and therefore breakfast was not made. Instead my father in law was attempting to cook breakfast for everyone since the hairstylist was arriving early and we did not have much time. Eventually he came in and was very apologetic and offered to make us things, but my mother had already mad the coffee and i had eaten leftover quiche. During breakfast the next morning, we were waiting for coffee to be made, only to discover that the two girls making breakfast were drinking it all before we could get to it. Lastly, we had made an agreement that another bride could arrive early the next day while we still technically had the place so that she could take some pictures. Thinking we were being nice, we said yes, not realizing that while we were trying to have a nice breakfast and pack up, her entire wedding party and some guests showed up and no one did anything to stop it or at least ask them to be respectful. There were vendors and people everywhere and everyone acted as though we were the ones who were not supposed to be there. As much money as we we paid to have the entire property for the whole weekend, I truly expected to have it for the whole weekend... not to pay for all of her vendors and wedding party to start enjoying the place early.

The Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn was a truly outstanding venue for a wedding. The accommodations were very comfortable and the atmosphere of Southern Hospitality was very inspiring. The staff was excellent to work with and had loads of experience. In addition, their comprehensive list of associated vendors made wedding planning straight forward with no surprises.

The rental of the facilities included nine rooms for the bridal party, various locations to select from for the ceremony; a modern, up-to-date reception area and many other amenities. Every guest mentioned how much they enjoyed the wedding. And most importantly, both the bride and her mother were very happy!

For an excellent value, the Briar Patch is tops!

The Briar Patch provided an absolutely beautiful location for my wedding ceremony and reception. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how lovely and welcoming the atmosphere was there. In the days and months leading up to the wedding, the staff was extremely helpful with anything that I asked, and they always responded to my emails or phone calls promptly. I am very glad I had my wedding at the Briar Patch, and I would recommend it 100%!

AMAZING LOCATION! We loved having our wedding at Briar Patch. Not only was our bridal party able to come on Friday and leave Sunday, we were able to have our rehearsal dinner there, the pool was great for after the rehearsal dinner and wedding, we got a wonderful breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning, we have spectacular pictures, and our guests had a BLAST! We are still getting compliments on how beautiful our wedding was and how much fun people had.

My husband and I just got married at the Briar Patch and and we couldn't be happier with our experience. Dan, Ellen, Henriette and Jennifer are so friendly and easy going. They cared about our special day and were very accommodating. They even provided the champagne when our caterer forgot to bring some. They make you feel like their home is your own. The venue and scenery are absolutely beautiful! The cottage was the perfect honeymoon suite and my family really loved staying in the main house. The pool was the perfect place for the casual rehearsal dinner that we had and the kids really loved the pool. We had the pleasure of being the first guests to utilize their new day-of coordinator services provided by Henriette. She did a fabulous job. I couldn't have pulled it off without her. She kept me relaxed and reassured me that everything would be taken care of. It also helps that she works at the facility and knows the property and staff very well. EXCELLENT JOB!!!

I highly recommend this facility for anyone who dreams of a gorgeous country side wedding weekend! We can't wait to celebrate our anniversary there!

We got married on June 20, 2009 and because of Dan/Ellen/Jennifer/Henrietta at Briar Patch B&B and our wonderful wedding coordinator (Terry Kaye of Posh Planner), we had a fairytale wedding. Briar Patch is the most beautiful location to host a wedding (or any party for that matter!). The scenery is spectacular (as the B&B sits on top of a hill overlooking the BlueRidge mountains), but the service is TOP NOTCH! Dan goes out of his way to make sure every bride is attended to -- and that every minute of your special day is PERFECT! We were engaged for 14 months, and everytime I had a question for Briar Patch, I immediately got a response (within 24 hours) answering everything I needed to know (and then some!) We HIGHLY recommend Briar Patch B&B for ANY event, but especially your wedding day. Dan/Ellen and their staff will treat you wonderfully and make you feel at home! It's a day we will never forget-- it was absolutely magical!

The Briar Patch is a real hidden gem. I know they do a lot of weddings, but for some reason they are not talked about much on a lot of the wedding boards--but they should be. The setting is so beautiful--all of my guests raved. And it was amazing to have our families be able to stay together at the inn for the entire weekend. The Briar Patch was the first venue I looked at--I forced myself to look at a couple of others, but none could compare. And I cannot stress enough to future brides out there that having the place for the whole weekend--and not being forced to squeeze all your festivities (including set up and clean up) into an 8 hour window-- is absolutely WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD. Please consider this fact when comparing the Briar Patch to others. What you get for the price is amazing. Ellen and Dan are so sweet, so flexible, and their property is just amazing.

The Briar Patch is the perfect place for a wedding. The immediate families of the bride and groom stayed at Briar Patch for 3 days, Thursday to Sunday, with the Wedding Ceremony & Reception Saturday afternoon and evening, so there was plenty of time to hang out together and get to know each other better. Whether it was jumping in the pool, playing bocce ball on the front lawn, having delicious breakfasts together, running some last minute wedding errands together, or sitting on the front porch having great conversations. Rather than just a one-day event of a wedding in a church and then an evening reception, it felt like the wedding celebration was 3 days long, which made the whole weekend so much more special and memorable.
Dan and Ellen, the owners, and Jennifer & Henrietta, the managers, are so incredibly helpful but also laid-back, which led to a stress-free event. It rained on and off on Thursday & Friday and we were comfortable with the indoor plan for the wedding in the Fox Den Reception hall, but somehow Dan did some weather magic so that by dawn Saturday morning, the skies had cleared, the humidity was gone and the weather was sunny and 70 degrees for a lovely Wedding Ceremony on top of the hill.
We had about 160 wedding guests and so many guests commented that they had never been to such a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception. Also, the large outside patio connected to the Fox Den was a big hit during our 90 minute cocktail hour.
Sunday morning, Jennifer & Henrietta prepared a delicious self-serve breakfast for 100 guests.....they said they had never done a breakfast for more than 50 people before, but it was great and that extended the wedding celebration through Sunday afternoon, with many guests hanging around by the pool.
At least two-thirds of our wedding guests were young people and I would bet that some of them will consider the Briar Patch when they get married. Definitely 5 stars+ for the Briar Patch.

We could not have found a more perfect location for our wedding! The Briar Patch is like no other. Unlike most venues where you are limited to how much time you have for your reception, we had the Briar Patch from Friday till Sunday which gave us the flexibility all weekend long. It worked out perfect as we were able to take advantage of the pool area for our luau themed rehearsal dinner on Friday. Everyone really enjoyed the casual and fun atmosphere of the night. And the wedding day was everything a bride could ask for. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and made for amazing photos. Our reception in the Fox Den was no less than perfect. So many of our guests commented on how unique and beautiful the set-up was. And of course, being that you are the only guests at the Briar Patch, it makes for such an intimate setting. And I could not forget to mention Dan, Ellen, and their staff. I was so pleased with not only how responsive Dan was, but how whatever you wanted, he made sure it happened. I was always at ease with him-he truly wants the day to be just perfect for you. From the moment we were in contact with him, I enjoyed working with him. As for value I was a little nervous that it was out of my budget but after comparing it to other venues-it was all worth it and there are very few places that gives you the service, the flexibility of all weekend, a house with so much character, and of course-a tasty breakfast. If you are looking for something a little different than the typical reception, this is definitely worth looking at! And trust me-we'll definitely be back for a weekend!

My husband and I booked the entire place for the wedding weekend. It was so convenient to have everything there at the B&B. It was also very nice to have both of our families stay the weekend. The grounds of the B&B provided a great background for our wedding pictures. We can't wait to go back and stay for our anniversary.

The Briar Patch is an amazing venue if you're looking for a low-key but elegant wedding. The provide everything you need but if you don't want to use what they have they are totally open to letting you go with your heart. My wedding was gorgeous and I wouldn't have had it any other place.

Briar Patch is a unique venue which enabled our wedding party the opportunity to spend two full days celebrating our marriage. Dan and Ellen were very flexible allowing us access to the site on several occasions prior to the weekend. We were able to plan and pre-stage so that everything wasn't crammed into the last days. We highly recommend Briarpatch.... particularly if you see rabbits in your dreams.

Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast is wonderful! I cannot say enough good things about it. Dan and Ellen are great! They are so easy going and so accomodating. They are willing to work with you and they honored just about every special request we had for them. The setting is beautiful, the house is full of character, and the new reception hall (Fox Den) was perfect for guests to hang out at before the ceremony and then for the 6hr reception after! It was a great central location for all our family to meet since almost all of our guests travelled from out of state. We held our rehearsal dinner in the pool & hot tub area, the ceremony was at the top of the hill the next day, and the reception was in the Fox Den. Not one person got sick of being in the same place for the entire 3 days we were there. It is so relaxing you don't want to leave! In fact, I'm sure we'll be going back for our anniversary next year. The owners and employees are so wonderful there...bridezillas need not apply!

Wow! This review would take forever if I wrote everything I felt for the Briar Patch. They are truly amazing people to work with...oh yeah and the site is INCREDIBLE! I had the wedding of my dreams at the Briar Patch and it was all thanks to DAN and ELLEN and HENRIETTE!

We could not have been happier with our choice of The Briar Patch for our wedding. The owners & staff are incredibly accommodating (even offering up their own personal gas grill for the rehearsal dinner cookout) about timing, ceremony & cocktail hour locations, decorations, etc. We had originally considered getting married at a local vineyard, but we found that the Briar Patch rates were only slightly more expensive, yet we would have the run of the place for 2 days, compared to 6-8 hours at a winery. Having our out-of-town friends and family stay with us at the B&B also meant we we able to spend a lot more time visiting with them vs 5 minutes during the reception. We were also able to have our dog with us all weekend, which was wonderful. (The staff was kind enough to provide us extra sheets to drape over the couch so the dog could sleep there.)

Another thing we especially liked about the Briar Patch is that while they provided us with a long list of vendors who had worked weddings there in the past, we were also welcome to choose vendors who were not on the recommended list (which we did).

For those looking to save money on music, we took advantage of the reception hall's iPod-friendly stereo system and skipped on hiring a band or DJ.

A very nice set-up and responsive, accommodating staff. Highly recommended for those looking for a relaxed, "country" location with options for indoor and outdoor events without having to rent a tent.

My wedding at the end of March 2008 was held at the Briar Patch. We wanted to have a "destination wedding" that was not too far for family to travel to, yet would get us out of the fast-paced/bad traffic Northern Virginia area where we reside. We rented out the entire house and cottage for the wedding party and family members to stay in for the weekend. In addition, we rented the reception building for our ceremony and reception sites.

Dan and Ellen were very accomodating and responsive in the months leading up the wedding. Their list of recommended vendors led us to the BEST CATERER in this area - Savoir Fare!

We had a wonderful weekend with our family celebrating our marriage. All of our guests commented on the beauty of the setting, the beautiful reception/ceremony site -- most told us it was the best wedding they'd ever been too! Henriette and Lindsey were very helpful the entire weekend! and my husband and I refer to the cottage as the "Love Shack" since it was where we spent our wedding night -- love that huge bathtub! On Sunday when everyone checked out, my mother informed my husband and I that she wants to celebrate her 75th birthday next year at the Briar Patch! We'll have to begin planning that now...

I love everything about them- I could not have had a better experience. They were incredibly flexible and helpful- gave us suggestions on vendors, and INCREDIBLY reasonable in the prices. No hidden costs with them- they won't nickle and dime you. When I called wanting to have a clambake, which required building a firepit, the response was an automatic "yes". Everything was can-do. I'm from New Hampshire, and loved the New England/country feel, esp. since it wasn't hokey like manhy similar vendors in the area....

We were able to rent the whole facilities for the entire weekend. The grounds were well maintained and the banquet house was finished a few weekends before the wedding. Over all highly recommend.

We loved having our wedding at the Briar Patch! The new reception hall is breathtaking, B&B and its property is classic and the owners, Ellen and Dan, as well as their staff were extremely helpful and very easy to work with. It is the perfect setting for a charming, horse country wedding - indoors or out.
We had our ceremony on the front lawn and then the reception was held in their newly renovated Gold Room which was spectacular. We could not imagine having our wedding anywhere else. Our close family stayed at the Inn while we had our own home away from home in the detached Cottage.
We recommend the Briar Patch to anyone who wants a very charming, laid-back, romantic wedding!

Briar Patch is a great supportive venue if you are inviting children. They have a terrific side room that is close by and they also allow for caregivers to go to the inn as it gets later in the evening to a quieter space to help the children settle down for the evening. The bedroom floor plan is also convenient to monitor things as they children sleep while their parents continue to have a good time with the other adults at the reception.

We have found Ellen and Dan and their entire team to be very supportive of our needs as caregivers as well. They have been great mentors for us in other ways too.
