An appetizer reception for 147 guests was planned, and $8200 was paid. The quantity of appetizers served was inadequate for the 120 people in attendance. Even the mother of the bride received only one appetizer all evening. Special meals ordered for children weren't served. Even the flower girl and ring bearer did not receive their meals. The father of the bride requested that manager Dan Belmont serve more appetizers. The manager declined. There was inadequate space for a dance floor. Tables were removed to generate dance space resulting in a lack of seating for guests. The very small bathrooms were dirty, and the men's toilet wasn't working. A report was filed with the Better Business Bureau against Cafe Demenil but after 4 weeks the Cafe management has not responded.

Dan was great. He was helpful, easy going and flexible. The place is beautiful, and the guest commented on how nice and unique the venue was.. I thought that the price was really reasonable for the number of guests that we had.

The DeMenil house is a beautiful place to have your wedding. The grounds are enchanting as well as the food is good. BUT, I will warn you that the man who runs the place is very hard to work with. He is a "yes" man. He will tell you "yes", nothing is a problem, they can accommodate you, and then he goes back on his word, or doesn't remember. We planned our wedding for 18 months. He was the one vendor that completely ruined part of our day. He was an hour let to let my crew come in to decorate, and was very rude to all of them while doing it, telling them the he had a whole staff that would take of it. So, they let him take care of it, and when we arrived six hours later, NOTHING was done. He is very unprofessional and didn't care one bit about our needs, and desired to make our wedding day the best it could be.
Our guest did love the venue, and the food. The location manager will be the hard part to work with, especially if you aren't a platinum wedding.

Food tasted good, prepared properly but did not seem hot enough. Wait staff was very helpful and polite. The location is beautiful. We wanted the ceremony and reception in the same location without at large break in between and this fit the bill. The cost was also very competitive and budget friendly for a day-time wedding. We made specific arrangements to have 60 minutes for family photos after the ceremony instead of the usual 30 minutes. We verified this with the location manager several times, including the night before at the rehearsal. However, the day of the wedding, the manager did not give the correct schedule to the chef and the food was ready too early. The manager was very rude to myself, my husband and our family and caused a lot of undue stress and tension. The manager never apologized and continued to be rude the rest of the time we were there. I felt that because we were having a less expensive day-time reception he did not feel he needed to treat us as well as those with evening events booked. I love my photos with the location and DeMenil Mansion as a backdrop, but if I knew what I know now I would not have chosen this site.
