Cathy's Rum Cakes Are The Best!!!!!!!

I just purchased my daughter's wedding cake from Cathy's Rum Cake. I first told her that she couldn't have a wedding cake from Cathy's because I thought they were going to be too expensive. I WAS WRONG!!!! Cathy's wedding cakes are only $4.00 per person, and the other upscale bakeries were wanting $10.00 and on up. My daughter picked out the style she wanted, and I didn't have to pay extra for it because of a promotion they were having. And the free samples they gave me were delicious! Dealing with Cathy's has been the smoothest part of getting this wedding together. My daughter is happy, and so is my wife - which makes me happy. Thanks Cathy!

Cathy's Rum Cake was both stunning and delicious at our wedding! We chose to keep it simple with white on white with their town and country swirl design with flowers between our layers. It turned out fabulous. All our guests loved our cake. We made sure to order enough to have extra (enough for 150 people although our wedding was 120). It worked out great because my husband and I got to enjoy it even more on our honeymoon. These cakes are unlike any others. They are always moist and creamy. We chose to use the original rum flavor, raspberry rum, and peach amaretto- all of which are phenomenal. Cathy was very pleasant to work with as well. We ordered one of her cakes for our engagement party and the bridal shower as well. No one could get enough!

Amazing wedding cake! Our friends and family LOVED our wedding cakes, especially the chocolate peanut butter! Everyone at Cathy's was a pleasure to work with as well. Also, the presentation of the cakes was breathtaking, white frosting with full strawberries covering the top of all three cakes.

Ended up w/ way to much cake and it was very expensive, was charged extra for a missing piece and returned it as soon as we found it, but they refused to give us our money back

Cathy’s Rum Cake was the last of several cake places we tried. It was the most amazing cake I have ever had and unfortunately also the most expensive. All in all once I tasted it the decision was made. The price is worth it and we had so many compliments on it! I recommend it whole heartedly!

Cathy's Rum Cake is a good quality cake. I wanted a wedding cake that not only looked good, but tasted good too, and that is Cathy's!
The only thing is that they only decorate with whipped cream frosting and not fondant, like many other bakeries. The fondant can look really neat, but the whipped cream frosting definitely tastes better. Also, if you are having a small wedding, like I did, they don't deliver your cake. So, my mom picked up the cake (which was frozen) and dropped it off at my reception hall in the morning. Unfortunetly, the cake was still a little frozen in the middle when we cut it. :( The cake is good, but I would recommend trying several different places before choosing them.

Cathy's Rum Cake has been around for 30 years. That's a long time. Cathy was popular here before people had even heard of another woman who goes by her first name (we're talking about Martha, not Madonna), a woman who made that fondant icing so popular.

Now, we love the look of fondant, and there are some local cake purveyors who do it so well, they put M.S. to shame. But have you ever tried to bite into a hunk of the stuff? Gross. It tastes like grout. (Well, we imagine it does. We've never actually tasted construction supplies.)

Give us Cathy's cake any time. The frosting is whipped and sweet, and you don't have to get a shot of rum in the cake — although we highly recommend it. (The amaretto version's not bad, either, and you teetotalers can get it alcohol-free.) Festooned with shimmery ribbons, we'd put Cathy's cakes up against Martha's any old day. Just let us eat cake!

And here's my Cathy's Rum Cake story from the weekend:

I made a boo-boo after we picked up a cake. It's just classic: I toppled over the cake box when I was trying to pick it up the floor of the car. Note to self: do not try to bring everything all at once especially if there's prepared food involved. It calls for a disaster. With only 15 minutes left till their closing time (and we are about 10 minutes from the Phoenix location), I was in total panic. How could they possibly help us near closing time on a Saturday?! My boyfriend called them while I was petrified with the thought of fixing a botched cake for the first time in my life. I couldn't believe it when he told me that all we needed to do was go there and there will be another cake ready, free of charge. I didn't care if I had to pay as long as I had another cake, if you know what I mean. It is never a pleasant thing to have to tell the birthday celebrator that you're sorry for the unrecognizable cake--Oh, and by the way, bon appetit! We drove back there and got a new cake. We got there and my boyfriend didn't tell him that we need the pink cake replaced not the blue one, so I was almost in hysterics when I saw the blue cake. The owner calmed me down and said not to worry he will fix it. And he did. In a few minutes, he transformed it with a pink Happy Birthday and matching ribbons. Voila! I offered to pay again, but he declined. I told him he made our day! He said that made it worth it. I love it when I encounter genuinely good people. It just drives you to do the same to others.

"I've had Cathy's Rum Cakes for a variety of occasions and every single time they nail it. Now I live in San Francisco and WISH I could have a caterer in the city who makes anything close to these cakes. Deep Dish Pizza from Chicago Cheesesteaks from Philly and Cathy's Rum Cakes from Scottsdale She is by far the best at what she does. As far as those who complain on this site about frozen cakes, yes they should be thawed before you eat them, but the freezing keeps them absolutely fresh. They are only frozen overnight to keep the fruit and custard fresh but by the time you thaw, WOW. I'm sure you could make a special request to have your cake picked up on the day it was baked if you didn't want it frozen. I highly recommend this caterer for the cakes. My favorite: Strawberry! You don't know us - but we know you! We've been celebrating with your rum cakes for over 30 years! This year - we'll celebrate 44 years of marriage! Thank You! for many of those years with us! I write and photograph for the Phoenix Magazine and have little time to bake, your cakes are wonderful and a household tradition!
