One of the reasons we chose Felicia is because she is easy to get in touch with and she is very pleasant and professional. She is familiar with both the rural and city areas in the Virginia/DC Metro area, but she is also willing to travel. She has excellent interpersonal skills, which I found was necessary to avoid family drama during both the planning of the wedding and on the wedding day. What we found out later, is that Felicia is awesome! I am currently finishing my last year in medical school and had very limited time to plan our wedding. Felicia was very flexible. She managed to help us plan our full wedding in 3 months! She even helped me find my wedding gown, helped with narrowing down choices for venues based upon our vision of the wedding, and has become a dear friend to us. She kept us updated with upcoming decisions while preventing us from feeling overwhelmed by limiting the amount of decisions we had to make on a daily or weekly basis (depending on our short timeline). Through discounts with venues she saved us more money than the cost of her own services. The venues provided discounts, but also provided excellent services on our wedding day because they didn't want to look bad in front of Felicia because they know she is an excellent coordinator and they wanted to attain future business with her. My wedding cake and bridal bouquet exceeded my expectations! Our wedding day was both beautiful and so much fun! I wasn't worried about anything because Felicia made sure everything went smoothly. I would recommend every bride have Felicia coordinate their wedding because she is amazing!
Felicia at Celebrations Made Simple was with us throughoout the planning process providing support and guidance. Felicia was excellent on the day of the wedding, coordinating all of the vendors, and calming my nerves. :-)
Celebrations Made Simple was the best decision we made two weeks before our wedding day (3.16.2013). We had done most of the planning, but we needed a stage manager for the rehearsal and day of and Felicia and her staff were ready, willing and more than able to be the day of coordinator who allowed us to let go and enjoy our friends, family and wedding day party!! Before the wedding, Felicia was our guide in tying up all the loose ends - she inquired about issues we hadn't thought of (like a reminder about breaking in shoes before the wedding), kept us on task, provided an amazing timeline (I loved the timeline), provided a to scale summary of the floor plan and table assignments with dietary restrictions included (!!), helped us find beautiful bouquets and boutonnieres a week before the wedding, she already knew most of our vendors and had a great working relationship with them. The day of she was the go to person for all of our vendors re questions for set up, questions in general, she oversaw the setup and did a wonderful job with our simple centerpieces, she made sure Will and I were hydrated and fed, she kept us and the vendors updated and on schedule, she and her staff packed up our reception items making packing up much easier the next day ,I could go on and on. I really don't know what we would have done without her and her staff, THANK YOU!!!!! Plus Felicia is good people, easy to talk to and she was on her game despite being under the weather! Felicia and her staff exceeded our expectations at every phase, she made our lives easier that weekend allowing us to spend more time with our guests and we would highly recommend her and her staff to any couple looking for an incredibly competent and reassuring coordinator for their day. I used Celebrations Made Simple for day-of coordination. Boy, am I glad I did! Initially, I was skeptical about the value of hiring a professional coordinator for the wedding day. I had talked to a couple of coordinators who all but said my wedding was too small-time for their trouble. However, Felicia was focused on explaining what she offers and how her services might help me on my wedding day. From the start, Felicia was involved with my wedding; I was able to email Felicia with questions, and she would send reminders at various times to ensure I had completed certain planning tasks at the appropriate time. On the day of the wedding, Felicia's detailed timeline helped keep us on time and on track. Most impressive of all was the fact that Felicia had one of her assistants give my bridesmaids a ride back to the hotel after it looked like they would be stranded at the venue after the wedding. I would definitely recommend Celebrations Made Simple to any bride.
Celebratons Made Simple was the best choice we made to plan our daughter's wedding. It was our first wedding and she calmly and professionaly helped us through all the major and minor decisions that we had to make. Felicia has a wide and varied network of vendors to work with providing us with choices that were creative and unique as well a cost effective. Our venue was spectacular and we never would have found it without her. She is also a LOT of FUN! The wedding weekend went without a hitch and we all had a wonderful time. I will definately call Celebations Made Simple for my next major event!

My husband and I agree that our wedding and reception wouldn't have been the wonderful, memorable event it was without Felicia. She was organized, professional, warm but always kept us on track. I don't think we could even do her justice with a 10 page dissertation on "Our exceptional wedding planner". Here's my attempt: Felicia always made us feel like we were her number one priority. She answered emails immediately and always treated our concerns as important even when we realized that they might be frivolous or just wedding jitters. She would take tasks off of our hands beyond what she had agreed saying "This is your day and I'm going to make sure it's right". Felicia always presented fabulous vendors with a variety of choices so if we didn't know what we wanted at first, it would be fairly obvious in the end. Finally, while people will often comment on the food, band, cake, etc... how many time have you heard guests say "Wow, you have a wonderful planner!" In the end, we heard it multiple times and agree whole heartedly. Our event was better than we ever could have dreamed and Felicia and her team worked tirelessly every minute to make it happen!
If I never ever get to see anyone else in life work under SEVERE PRESSURE and make the impossible possible..Celebrations Made Simple has satisfied me. From the beginning to the end this vender was a joy to work with and I would advise anyone that is going to get married please, please make sure you have a Event Planner, Wedding Coordinator etc.. it truly makes all the difference in the world and "You would not go wrong by using Celebration Made Simple"
My wedding would have been cancelled if it wasn't for Celebration Made Simple! Felicia and her staff were able to save the day and not stress me out so I could enjoy my day. I hired Felicia over a year ago with only an engagement ring and a list of don't wants but no clear vision of what I did want. She was able to make my vague dreams a reality! She was there every step of the way from venue selection to invitations to party favors! She was ALWAYS patient and made sure I was comfortable. Of all the money I spent on our wedding she was by far the best money spent! If you are considering not having a wedding coordinator reconsider immeditatley it will save you much stress and Felicia I know is the VERY BEST!
The ladies did a pretty good job. The head coordinator was not there and told me in advance that she couldn't be there, so I understood that. However, the person who was in charge that night, this was the first time for her to run things, and she appeared to be frazzled at times. She did come through on most issues. There were a few things I was unhappy about.
Felicia made sure our event was flawless. My wedding day was awesome and there were hiccups like every wedding has but Felicia made sure I wasn't stressed or worried about anything that she could handle. We worked with her for over a year to plan our event and she was very kind, honest, flexible and fun. I felt she was more like a friend then someone I hired to plan my very special event. If I could do it all over again, I would hire Celebrations Made simple again.
The night before our wedding, one of our friends asked how I was feeling, to which I responded, "I'm relaxed and I feel great!" Our ability to relax and enjoy the rehearsal, wedding, and our next-day picnic is in large part thanks to Celebrations Made Simple, Felicia in particular, and her fantastic staff.
We used Celebrations Made Simple's Comprehensive Service Package (planning, theme, budget, help with vendors, contract negotiation/review, timelines, ridiculously awesome responsiveness, consultations, invitation mailing and RSVP management, day-of coordination, and general herding of cats). After everything CMS helped us with (including A LOT of communicating and occasional problem solving with vendors on our behalf), I am honestly not sure how people plan their own weddings. Felicia was there with us every step of the way, keeping us on track with reminders (buying a dress, paying vendor deposits, scheduling fittings, etc.). She was also very skillful at arranging meetings around crazy work and travel schedules. CMS had everything covered and we really were able to enjoy our entire wedding weekend. The only thing I was responsible for on the wedding day was to wake up and get myself to the Bride Beautification Station (hair and makeup suite at our hotel). CMS provided exceptional service!! We cannot say enough about how fantastic it was to work with Felicia. In fact, we miss her now that the wedding is over. :o)
I am not one to generally give a full 5 star rating on anything, but Celebrations Made Simple is an exception to this. My wife and I both believe that out of everything we did for the wedding hiring them to assist with the wedding planning was the best choice that we could have made. Felicia was responsive throughout the process and they were flexible with my hectic work schedule. They were always ready to go the extra mile whether doing our invitations for us (which were perfect) or helping us select our other vendors.
The day of the wedding Felicia and her staff had everything under control. As soon as I saw them on site I was completely relaxed because they took over and made sure my bride and I weren't bothered with any issues. I could not have asked for better service or support from them. If you are looking at hiring a wedding planner Celebrations Made Simple is definitely the way to go.
Felicia was fantastic. I pretty much planned everything on my own, and she was great for keeping me on track and making sure I did not forget anything. She provided day-of reception coordination for me, in addition to all of her pre-wedding help. We were a little late getting to the reception, but she was very good with trying to get us back on schedule, even though she had a tough job with my family!
Felicia was absolutely the best money we spent on the wedding. We booked her for month of services, but we were constantly in contact during the planning process. She reviewed all of my contracts and gave me input on every vendor. She made sure the day of the wedding I had nothing to worry about, and truly made me feel at ease. Her staff was professional and extremely coordinated. If you are looking for a coordinator she is by far the best! We cannot thank her enough for making the day so magical!
Okay, so I have started to write this review twice, but had to stop and collect my thoughts so I could best portray how AMAZING Felicia is. Hiring a wedding coordinator is a good decision, hiring Felicia will be the best decision you make the entire duration of your wedding planning. My husband and I spent this past year communicating with her regarding decisions I needed to make and vendor recommendations for additional services. We chose the wedding day package, but Felicia went above and beyond the entire year, helping us make decisions, reviewing vendor contracts and attending vendor (catering, rentals, etc) meetings. Felicia also kept a timeline of what I should be doing (buying dress, etc) and would send reminders, keeping me and my then fiancé on track.
Felicia provided a detailed vendor timeline for the wedding. She contacted our vendors to verify delivery, timeline , etc and also made it known that she was their contact, not to bother us so that we could enjoy our day. She also provided a wedding party timeline which was very very helpful the day of our event, to keep things on track.
We had a few issues with vendors, one prior to the event in regards to the scheduling. Felicia negotiated with this vendor to work out a compromise and the vendor did an excellent job. The other issue was with our tent rental company, who arrived at the site 2 hours late. I had no idea this was happening, Felicia handled this while I was getting ready in the hotel room, via the phone with her assistants on site, she sat right in the room with us and kept her cool an professionalism while dealing with this vendor. I didn't know what happened until 2 days after the wedding when we met to review the day! Due to the tent vendor being late this affected other vendors on site, Felicia's staff worked in high gear to get the tables and decorations set and got us back in schedule.
I cannot say enough about how thankful we are for Felicia and her staff. Amazing amazing amazing folks!!
Celebrations Made simple provided wedding day services for my wedding day. In addition they also provided childcare services for the day of my wedding,which was great because i have two small children. I am at a lost of words for how great of a job Felicia did. She made sure everything was running smoothly during the planning process and into the wedding day. All i can say is my wedding day was perfect and planned to a "T" Everything went perfect and ran smoothly. I could not of asked for a more perfect, organized, friendly, and AWESOME wedding planner! Celebrations Made Simple made my wedding day stress free and the most memorable day of my life!
Felicia provided wedding planning services for my wedding in August, 2011. I don't even know where to start with singing her praises. Felicia consistently went above and beyond over the year that we planned our wedding. I know that we exceeded the number of hours for which we contracted her, but Felicia did not pay attention to that and just did what needed to be done. She was very organized (which I appreciate) and helped us with every piece that we needed. There were elements that we did ourselves, and Felicia had no problem with simply being updated on the details. But, her best moment was the day of our wedding. She was with us all day (I overheard her delay a call with an unrelated vendor on our wedding day). We had her undivided attention, and my husband and I did not worry about anything all day. And, more importantly, my mother and father didn't worry about anything either! She handled all the details; from decorating the reception to meeting the vendors to coordinating our rehearsal. She also helped with our farewell brunch the following morning, which was lovely. I am a worrier, and the fact that I did not worry about a thing on my wedding day is a testament to Felicia and her team. My family and husband have said over and over that Felicia is worth her weight in gold. Felicia, thank you for all that you did for us. I am incredibly grateful for all of your hard work!
I hired Felicia and her team as weekend-of coordinators for my South Asian wedding. She was a gem. It was her first South Asian wedding - which are quite different than traditional American weddings - and she managed the coordination really well. She did her best to understand the different rituals, she kept everyone on time, and she was instrumental in ensuring that the flow of events were seamless. Her services in coordinating rental people, the caterer, the decorator, and the set-up meant I could actually enjoy our wedding. I highly recommend Celebrations Made Simple and Felicia.
Felicia was fantastic! I don't know what we would have done without her. She went above and beyond. She made sure everything ran smoothly. She was professional, flexible and had wonderful ideas to enhance our wedding. She was also great at executing our last minute requests and helping us find a fabulous DJ. Very helpful!! Guided us throught the whole process of my daughter's wedding. Answered all our questions and Felicia and two assistants had everything under controll at the wedding and reception.

We hired Felicia from Celebrations Made Simple as our “day of” wedding planner. When we hired her, it was about six months until our wedding. Felicia kept in constant contact and kept us up to date as to what we were supposed to have accomplished by the end of the month. If I had any questions she made herself available by either email or phone and would respond usually within 24 hours. The closer the wedding got, the more questions I had. Felicia went beyond her “day of” planning and really helped us make sure that we stayed on schedule. She has a great reference form if you need suggestions for any certain item. She will tell you the truth if ask if you should or should not spend money on a specific item. By far, spending money on her services is the best thing we did for the wedding. She kept everything low key and stress free. On the day of the wedding she kept everything in running order. If I had any issues she would ensure that whatever the problem was would be taken care of so I could stay stress free. I recommend her to everyone and anyone.
Felicia also does invitations. She has many good books to choose from and gives you the choice to address or she will write in calligraphy for you. She helped us out with keeping track of who is coming by sending us an excel spreadsheet to use or to modify. The invitations came out perfect!
Felicia was amazing, she was very professional, timely and flexible, she helped make our wedding a reality, I have recommended her to all my friends for their future weddings and/or events. Felicia was a great asset in making our wedding beautiful. Even though we wanted to be hands on in making decisions, Felicia worked with us completely in all the decision making with vendors, hotels, decorations, and all the other details that needed to be done. As a same sex couple we were concerned with having vendors who were respectful and not bias to provide our services. Felicia guaranteed that we would only have vendors who had no problem with a lesbian couple getting married. Her recommended vendors were superb during consultations and on the day of the wedding. Felicia's orgainization and eye for detail took a lot of the stress and worry out of our wedding planning. We had only to ask and it was done! It was a pleasure to have Felicia take such care with our wedding, our friends and family and our future together. Her team on the day of the wedding was caring, detail oriented, friendly and orgainized. On our wedding day we did not have to do a thing, we were able to relax and enjoy our day with friends and family. Planning my wedding with Celebrations Made Simple was the BEST working experience I have had in years, and I work as a sales professional! In particular, the owner, Felicia Owens-Smith, is a consummate professional; personable, detail-oriented, amazingly organzied, down-to-earth person that makes you think of every detail involved in your event. There was no detail left undone. Her staff was amazing and managed my wedding like a major movie production. The selection/coordination of the vendors, rehearsal dinner, day-of-coordination, timelines, decorating, return of items post-wedding, etc. was run like clockwork. The entire day played out like a dream, no pressure, no stress, no hiccups in ANY of the planning. We truly were guests at our own event!
Our evening wedding included several details that required finitie planning such as music performers at the ceremony and reception, mini-cakes at each guest table, custom/table-side cake cutting, uplighting at the reception, menu cards for rehearsal dinner/reception, photo booth at the reception, dress changes for the bride, etc. Felicia managed every detail with excellence and determination. Last minute guest changes, adding time to the limo rental the night before the wedding, etc., all handled immediately and precisely.
Throughout the planning of our wedding, Felicia spent countless hours with us and is truly a part of our family now. Honestly, you NEED to contact Felicia with Celebrations Made Simple to help plan your wedding. She was so helpful, so professional, and took ALL the stress off of me (especially the day of) so that I could have fun and enjoy it all. She listened to everything that I wanted and made it all happen. She was so efficient, took care of all the contracts, payments, tips, and all the little things that you don't want to worry about, or your family! My brother got married a few years ago and the family was responsible for so much that they didn't get to enjoy themselves very much. Felicia took care of everything for us so that we could all enjoy ourselves. And we did, we all had a great time. I didn't have to worry about a thing. She is EXTREMELY flexible and met with me several times to make sure we had everything straight. Her and her team were on top of things and thought of things that never even crossed my mind. Celebrations Made Simple, and Felicia Owens-Smith, Event Coordinator, may just 'save your day.' Felicia is professional, thorough, tireless, knowlegeable, and really fun to work with! Though she is based out of Winchester, VA, she can't be confined to rural Virginia, and is very active across the entire Washington, DC metro area. I first met Felicia through a client we had in common who thought, initially, that she wouldn't need an Event Coordinator and could take care of the arrangements herself. Needless to say, she decided to bring Felicia on in the last weeks before the Wedding and dropped an enormous list of tasks and expectations on Felicia's plate from the first day. Felicia took on all the pressing deadlines with a smile and a fantastic outlook. Her creativity made it possible for our client to make her wedding dream a reality - and I remember, vividly, the Bride introducing Felicia at the rehearsal and adding - right then and there - that Felicia had saved her life 'hundreds' of times. Do you have a suggested way or formula for coming up with a guest list?
When coming up with the guest list for the wedding, I suggest that they actually start out with 3 categories:
1. Those who must be invited
2. Those who should be invited
3. Those who would be nice to invite
Depending on if you send out “save the dates” or request RSVPs early enough, you may be able to invite “Those who would be nice to invite” , using the concept of a “B-List”. You can send out those invitations as you received “no” in response to your RSVP. It is usually co-workers and acquaintances that start out on this list.
Who should be involved in the guest list writing process?
The guest list can be a touchy item to address. Everyone wants to have a part in who comes. Have the Bride, Groom, Brides Family (the parents), and the Grooms Family (the parents), come up with each of their list. The list should then be consolidated and the duplicates removed. It would be helpful if each of the parties use the 3 categories listed above to come up with their list.
How do you say "no" when compiling a guest list?
The bride and groom do need to be prepared for some awkward situations over the guest list, whether it’s a relative you don’t particularly care for, or a friend or college buddy that just rubs you wrong way, my advice is to do what you can to keep the peace, and let harmony prevail. If a particular person is going to ruin the day for you, then calmly state that you don’t want him or her there and be prepared to stand your ground. In the end, listen to your heart rather than convention.
By etiquette – is it suppose to be equal when the bride’s family is mainly paying for it?
In the past, the bride’s side and the groom’s side got equal number of invitations. Today, it is more common for the invitations to be divided into thirds, with a third going to the bride’s parents, a third to the grooms parents, and a third to the bride and groom. In the event that the parents are divorced, they must split their third. This of course is not the rule, but a suggestions. The person footing the bill doesn’t entitle a party to invite more people. They are several aspects that should also be taken into consideration, such as the size of the family on either side, the actual budget to accommodate the guests, or if other family members are willing to contribute to the cost of the reception to account for having additional guests on their list.
