We had a wide selection of people there from kids to older grandparents to young partiers and he had EVERYONE dancing all night laughing and just having a great time! Our DJ, Chris Grumley, was awesome for our destination wedding on Anna Maria Island! He reached out to us far in advance of our wedding to introduce himself and provided links to his website and Facebook. He was very accommodating - was able to play our Thursday evening wedding, and played songs we requested during our meal. When it came time to dance, he got ALL of our guests up and dancing and kept most of them dancing through the night! That is a huge feat for our crowd, so we were more than pleased! What a fun, memorable night Chris helped to provide! We have no complaints, and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a fun, unforgettable DJ for their event.

Chris was very professional and intuitive when it came to entertaining our Wedding Celebration. There were a few times during the course of the evening when I saw Chris scanning the crowd to anticipate the his next selection of music. He kept the music mixed up between slow songs, fun songs and lively music. Before the wedding, my wife and I were worried about some ot the attendees getting involved, but to the contrary, at times it seemed like everyone was on the dance floor.
To keep in tune with the direction we wanted to party to go, Chris came to me a couple of times, to give me his idea of what music to play. I am not a professional in playing music, but I do attend my share of concerts, as a music lover. The suggestions that Chris made were great and again everyone at the celebration had a GREAT time!

Besides my wife and I, Chris was the life of the wedding! We have had so many compliments on his music selections especially the instrumentals he played while our guests were arriving. His lighting and equipment were top notch. We got married outside and his lighting lit up the dance floor as well as a 2 block radius. His speakers were perfectly placed and were booming! He was able to accomidate our every request and had the dance floor packed all night. We even found out that after our send off people didn't want to leave the party thanks to Chris! Although he played the Ohio State fight song, at the request of my family, instead of the University of Florida fight song at the request of the bride he is a great DJ! 10/10 DJ.. Rocking ..Chris was AWESOME!!! he took our suggestions for music and mixed them in well and he had great presence on the mic. We had people on the floor until our time ended.

I am extremely pleased with the service that Chris Grumley provided for my daughter's wedding. He intuited the type of mood that she wanted to produce and created that mood with expertise and finesse.
He walked us through every step of the process and made sure he knew the direction we wanted to go.
Because we had special circumstances due to an untented wedding during a rainstorm, we were not sure if we could have the electronics. But Chris, as the problem solver he obviously is, found a dry place to set up and the show went on. I am extremely grateful for his flexibility and ability to put my mind at ease.

FAQ for Chris Grumley DJ
It is important, no matter the event, to choose the right DJ. This may seem like an obvious statement but let me delve a little deeper. DJ’s can’t always play to every crowd they encounter, there are many and they can be wide and varied. Let’s look at a few different types. I will refer to the DJ as ‘he’ although I do know some very good female disc jockeys.
Weddings
Think about the three factors affecting the outcome. Age of married couple, number of guests and venue.
A Bride should be the main focus of attention on her special day, the Groom will lavish praise on his new wife and will not mind that she takes precedence on this occasion. It is important for the DJ to understand this simple rule of thumb and be able to focus attention on the Bride and happy couple throughout the evening.
The Bridesmaids and Best Man should be involved, at least at the beginning of the evening so the DJ should ask for and have this information in advance. This takes a level of professionalism and can not be left to chance, so the use of a DJ supply company where the DJ to arrive could be anybody should not be considered. With the best will in the world supply companies cannot supply your DJ and hope that you have a successful evening. There is just too much left to chance.
A professional DJ will know, first hand, the sequence of events he has to play through. It can be a very a formal affair where the use of classical music is the way forward. The DJ should carry The Bridal March, along with a selection of classical that can be played while the guests arrive. It may well be a less formal gathering though and the DJ should have a predetermined selection leading into the evening, building as he goes, finishing with some exceptional ballads. In another section of this blog you will find a basic list of songs that can be essential to a wedding night.
A professional DJ will be the one who makes a point of discovering who the Bride and Groom are, well in advance of the big day. It is easy to communicate by telephone, email and even video and the DJ should have a clear picture of how to present the evening weeks before the event is scheduled. Any DJ worth his salt will be able to communicate freely and this is also a good pointer to how the DJ will communicate on the given day.

Anniversary Celebrations
This is a little different. Age is a factor, as is the chance that the DJ was booked by the couple who are celebrating or a member of the family who thought it was a good idea. A good DJ will confidently ask for an average age in order to determine a suitable playlist well before the party night arrives.
It is so important to base the party around a predetermined age range and even more so to have a good selection of relevant music. Gathering information on the couple is necessary and the DJ should speak with a selection of family members to build an accurate picture, or have an agreement with a confident family member who will stand and give a speech, offer some funny stories and talk abut the life of the people celebrating the anniversary.
Never be afraid to ask the DJ what his intended play list will include and make a decision on whether it is suitable. A professional DJ will have you at ease from the get go.
Kids Parties
Pre-Teen
It is necessary for a professional DJ to screen any song to be played to minors and never leave anything to chance. There are songs in my collection that are labeled as ‘clean’ versions that I could never play to a dance floor full of children. I cannot stress this enough, music must be screened, it is not enough to read a label, the DJ should know absolutely that the music for the party doesn’t contain any surprises. The DJ should also have a selection of games to play and request or supply spot prizes. As in either of the above scenarios, the DJ should communicate with parents well in advance of the party.
Age 13
The DJ should really be on top of current trends in order to cater to this type of party. I guarantee that the teens will know the music scene backwards, will supply a list of songs before the party that can be huge and that the DJ will be swamped by requests throughout the evening. A level of pre-screening should be done before the party day arrives. Parents should be on hand to supervise and if the right music is played the dance floor will be full all night, both boys and girls in their separate groups.
Coming of Age
A more relaxed atmosphere but the professional DJ will still screen most of the music, should be in contact with the birthday boy or girl directly, and should have a playlist built beforehand. Favorite songs should be picked for the host and a DJ will know how many of those fit in the set. The ability to mix may be a factor and if you like a selection of house, techno and dance ask the DJ if he is capable of creating a set to mix and if he is a competent mixer. There is no better feeling in the disco world than being part of a DJ’s well mixed set, one that is seamless, intriguing and powerful!
The consistent theme in this article is professionalism and organization, keep these things at the forefront and you can’t go wrong.
Themed Nights
These can be a lot of fun and if it is your job to host or organize a themed night or event grab the bull by the horns and have a blast. The DJ’s job is to fit the theme and make every effort to carry it forward. It’s his responsibility on the night and he determines the success rate. A professional DJ will find out about the crowd, who they are, what this is for, age base and size of venue.
If it’s themed to a particular decade the DJ will have a play list based around that period. Themed nights include but are not limited to Halloween, New Years, the 1950’s, 60’s 70’s etc, Jazz Night, Big Bands, fancy dress and many birthday celebrations. All the normal rules should be followed, communication with the DJ and less of a suggestion for music. The DJ should be able to cater to any adult themed night.
However you find your DJ it is up to you to make the initial contact and you can normally gauge the level of professionalism after the first conversation. The DJ should come across as confident, not arrogant, understandable, respectful, knowledgeable and friendly. Avoid shy sounding, over the top and lackluster personalities on the telephone, as these never translate well. Look for referrals where it is possible, ask the DJ for referrals and he should happily send you to a satisfied client.
If you get the chance to see your DJ in action before the big day arrives than do go and see because it will set your mind at rest if you hear and see him in his natural environment. I honestly believe that you should never leave anything to chance when it comes to choosing a DJ. There are many thousands of disc jockey’s out there and some real true professionals who will work hard to ensure a successful event. There are, however, a lot of DJ’s that consider this easy money and don’t feel the need to fulfill any promise of a good night. Avoid at all cost!
