The Oviatt Penthouse is a diamond in the rough. I had never in a million years thought of having my wedding in Downtown Los Angeles however when my now husband David found the venue online, I have to say I was speachless and a bit skeptical. Once meeting Roxy and personally getting a walk-through of the penthouse and rooftop in the evening hours was a site to see. The price was perfect for us as we were on a budget and a tight budget at that. So a Friday evening wedding was our ticket to a magical wedding. Truly yours catering staff is amazing, they went over the top to make sure that every aspect of our wedding was taken care of. I never meet a group, correction.. Team that flows to perfection, they don't skip a beat. Everything I brought into the penthouse to make our wedding unique, it's like everyone on the staff knew exactly where it went I basically did not need to lift a finger (Rob your a great captain). So to those brides who want a smooth wedding day and don't want to stress, then I Recommend the Oviatt Penthouse. In a nutshell if you want a cozy, intimate, yet all your guest think you spent a fortune to have your wedding surrounded by the city lights in a retro/sheek building then the Oviatt is the place. I want to thank Roxy, Chris and the entire Truly Yours catering team. All of our guest raved about the quality of food and service. Congratulations for making our wedding day so special!!

This is a dynamic team for any event! Especially, a WEDDING!

The lessees of the property are a married couple - Mr. & Mrs. Adlesh. The Adleshes are also the owners of Truly Yours Catering, which is the catering service provided by the Oviatt. Truly Yours Catering has a 26 PAGE MENU of mouthwatering offerings, which is possibly why they cater for the Emmys and other elite Hollywood events.

Roxy Adlesh is a total gem! She makes you feel at ease during such a stressful time. Her positive personality, supportive nature, and years of experience make planning/booking/organizing your event a piece of cake. She even does photography in addition to it all!

Chris Adlesh is a complete sweetheart who creates masterpieces in the kitchen! I went in for a tasting and fell in love with their food, presentation, and style! Each dish is a unique and flavorful twist of something familiar. Chris really takes pride in his dishes and cares about each detail of each dish he sends out.

The crew is so nice and friendly and attentive! No guest goes unnoticed, hungry, or thirsty!

Book the Oviatt - This venue is spectacular! I went on and on about the food and service, I forgot to mention HOW BEAUTIFUL, INTERESTING, AND FUN this venue is! If you think that the pictures are impressive, you have to see it in person to get the true experience of this historic landmark!

My husband and I fell in love with this place as soon as we saw it. Turns out the guests did, too! We got so many compliments on how amazing it was to be on a downtown rooftop on a gorgeous summer evening. There are so many places for guests to go that it never gets boring, and there's always something to entertain them. The venue was perfect for our 103 guests.

There are a LOT of rules for the venue that we had to learn through trial and error. All of your vendors need to go to a walkthrough at least 10 weeks before the wedding, and they all have to be there at the exact same time. That was a coordination nightmare. Also, they expect payment on the same day that they provide the final amount (not the next day) - no exceptions. The venue doesn't open until 2 hours before the wedding, so nothing can be prepared until at least 2 hours before. Not a terrible pain, but, I wish we could have had more time there beforehand. etc etc

Overall, we all had a great time the day-of. The big hassle was just in the coordination pre-wedding. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a very very memorable...

Roxy, Chris, Rob and the rest of the staff at Truly Yours Catering and the Oviatt Penthouse are amazing! From the planning stages all the way through to the wedding, they were prompt, professional and helpful. The Oviatt is such an enchanting place. Our guests were wowed by the magic of the venue and everyone commented on how delicious the food was. Plus, it was more affordable than most of the other venues we looked at. If you're thinking about booking the Oviatt, do it!

The Oviatt Penthouse. What can we say. From the moment we stepped in the elevator we knew this was the place. What could make it better? I’ll tell you what, Roxy, Chris and Truly Yours Catering. They took a perfect location and made it perfecter!!! We planned our own wedding, which turned out to be a little tougher than we anticipated, but with Roxy’s help (and patience) we were able to get everything together and enjoy the happiest day of our lives in the greatest location we could imagine, the art deco wonderland that is the James Oviatt Penthouse. Thanks Roxy and Chris and the entire Oviatt Penthouse staff!! We literally couldn’t be happier!!!!

This venue is amazingly cool and one of a kind! Our guests loved it! Very unique and different than any other venue. The only problem I had was with the exclusive caterer, Truly Yours, who also lease and operate the penthouse. They gave me contradictory information MORE than a few times. I purchased my aisle runner through a company they recommended, but was threatened the day of that I almost couldnt use it. I was specifically told I could have white petals, but then the day of while I'm stressed out waiting to walk down the aisle, I was told that I would have $$ taken out of my deposit because we were only allowed fake petals. This is not what I was previously told, and I did not get confused. This happened on a few other things as well. They were MORE than nice, professional, and responsive the entire process - up until the day of the wedding. That day, it was like they switched those buttons off. EVERY SINGLE one of my vendors that day complained about how rude and unprofessional they were. They couldn't believe the things they were doing. They even wouldnt let us borrow a broom to sweep up the petals. Instead my bridesmaids were on their hands and knees picking them up off the floor. I guess maybe they felt bad (ya think??) and decided not to deduct from my deposit after all (yeah, thanks - after you stress me out as I'm about to walk down the aisle). In the end, the wedding was beautiful. The staff (waiters) were very nice and professional. I would still have gotten married here. I just would have gotten EVERYTHING in writing. I mean EVERYTHING.

Do it again in a heartbeat. More later.

We had our October '09 wedding (both the ceremony and reception) at Cicada. It was all and more than we could have hoped for. They are so organized and really know how to throw an event. We had the ceremony downstairs. After the ceremony, while the guests were up at the cocktail hour, they transformed the room into a reception. It was as smooth as could be. The food was amazing and the staff is fabulous. Not only were they attentive to our guests, but we had our own attendant to look after our needs. All of the guests loved the setting of the venue, and said how elegant it was. The evening wedding was fabulous in the art deco setting. I can't say enough good things - if I had it to do again I wouldn't hesitate to have it at Cicada.

Cicada Events did an excellent job catering my wedding at the Oviatt Penthouse. ranging from service to food and schedule was spot on. I just with the door to the roof was bigger.

We loved this venue. We had eaten here before and knew they did weddings so this is where we picked to do ours. Jennifer was great. Really went above and beyond the call of duty. Food was amazing as always and our guests really enjoyed themselves.

Is it possible to give more than five stars to this place?! If I could, I would. My experience from the very beginning with this venue has been top notch. I decided to celebrate my anniversary & birthday at this place and check it out at the same time. Jennifer Balzar is FABULOUS and the head chef, Suzay Cha, is amazing. Every staff member there is extremely professional, sweet, genuine and on it. During my wedding, I too had a lady wait on me and provide me with food so that I will not go hungry. When you leave your chair, you will return to find that your napkin is neatly folded on your seat. My guests were impressed by the service and how clean the tables were kept during the meals. The food was beyond excellent. Everyone was wondering how each steak was cooked to perfection. The head chef also made her rounds and came out to say hello to my guests as well. If I could, I would marry her!

I am done gushing, but if you like old Hollywood glam, elegant settings that are not too stuffy, and want to stay away from the typical hotel or country club setting, I highly recommend Cicada. Also, lighting is a must in this venue. It really helps and sets the tone for the evening.

It was perfect for our guests ~ old Hollywood glamour. The food and service was great. Echo our coordinator worked with Jennifer (catering manager) and said she was a pleasure to work with.

We went to dinner at Cicada one night and my then boyfriend, now husband, said, "This would be an amazing place for a wedding reception." Turns out it was. The place itself is just so beautiful. We've seen it decorated for several different events and it always looks wonderful. We worked with Jennifer, who I think runs all of the events. She worked with us to create a menu that was within our budget, promptly returned any calls and emails and was very easy to work with. At the reception, I felt very well taken care of by the staff and the service was impeccable. During cocktail hour a waiter with a tray of appetizers was assigned to me so I could eat some of the food while taking pictures and greeting people. I felt pampered and catered to the whole night. I heard many positive comments about the waitstaff from our guests. The food was incredible too. The only snag was that they forgot that I had requested (and paid for!) the chivari chairs until my day of coordinator reminded them. They fixed that before any guests arrived for cocktail hour, but some of the detail photos taken before cocktail hour have the ugly chairs in them.

Overall, I highly recommend Cicada.

This is a drop-dead gorgeous venue, but really only at night. During the day, this vintage Jazz-Age penthouse shows its wear and stains a bit too clearly for a bride to be comfortable. (The maintenance team is a bit slow to respond to requests to shampoo stains out of the carpet, etc.) Recommended only for a wedding at sunset or after. But if you do plan on a night wedding, and you love a sophisticated historic setting, this place can't be beat. The view, the lights ... No free guest parking -- you'll need to book a valet service or reserve spaces for your guests at the nearby Pershing Square. But one major bonus: Pick whatever outside caterer you want.

The Oviatt Penthouse is lovely for a downtown city wedding, framed with skyscrapers. If you're keeping it simple and elegant, do the penthouse. It's art deco and it has some history. Know ahead that they provide tables and table-clothes, but that you will have to rent the glass-ware, silver-ware, etc. Also watch the time of year because it can be windy up there! My husband and I married there in November, 2004. Every time we visited before the wedding it was windy, but then magically it was beautiful on the day. It was just what we imagined.

Cicada is a high end elegant venue with food quality and service to match. I've shot one wedding there, but have friends in the biz who work there as well and the word is its an awesome location.

The architecture is attention to detail in the extreme. I've not seen another venue in Los Angeles with hand carved wooden columns.

From the chandelier to the upstairs bar, phonebooth and stage for the band, its an elegant location.

The Oviatt will take you and your guests back to the days of old Hollywood glamour! Perfect for any couple looking to have a elegant affair in Downton LA and for lovers of Mad Men who want to bring of the 40's and 50's to their wedding guests. Beautiful setting away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown LA but with all of the opulence you would expect from a penthouse that has entertained the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Maurice Chevalier.

WE LOVED the Oviatt Penthouse. I truly hope this place is around for years to come, with the service they provided they definitely will be! The Oviatt Penthouse was a dream location in the heart of downtown LA with a beautiful skyline backdrop and an Art Deco style penthouse inside...truly impressive. I highly recommend using The Oviatt Penthouse for any event, it is sure to impress!
