Celebrate any occasion with a custom cake designed by Karen Tyler. Karen has a two-year culinary school degree, and has trained under the well respected sugar artist, Chef Lori Blethen. Karen offers beauty, perfection and originality with each cake. All of her decorations and flowers are personally handcrafted from sugar paste, marzipan, fondant, butter cream and royal icing.

I offer private tastings incorporating pre-selected combinations by the client.
I also do any cake, filling, or icing/fondant/marzipan requested. There is not a set menu.

What are your tasting hours?
Tastings are scheduled for a mutally agreed upon time and date.

I price according to size and labor intensity.
Does the price include the top tier of the cake?
The top tier is included in the price of the cake.
Do you offer custom cakes, or do you work with pre-designed styles?
I only offer custom cakes. My cakes are works of art. If I did pre-designed styles the cakes would not be a "Karen Tyler" cake. I also do mini-cakes decorated with the colors, theme and style of the event. I do not do cupcakes.
What (if any) special ingredients, such as fresh fruits or farm-fresh butter, do you use in your cakes?
I use only the best organic ingredients: the finest imported and domestic organic chocolates, butter, flours, eggs, marzipan, sugars, seasonal fruits, vanilla and vanilla beans, coffees etc.
On average, how far in advance of the event do you prepare the cake?
I bake my fondant/marzipan covered cakes 2 days in advance. Those days are needed for curing. My cakes are NEVER frozen. For cakes iced with buttercreams only, I ice the cake one day before, and decorate the day of the event. If it is a morning due date, the cake is decorated in the middle of the night so as to be as fresh as possible.
How many cakes do you schedule for a typical weekend?
I only schedule one cake per every other weekend.
Will you work with the client's florist to garnish the cake?
I do not use real flowers. All my flowers and other decorations are personally handcrafted from sugar paste, marzipan, fondant, chocolate, butter cream and royal icing. Although, I absolutely will work with the florist to coordinate the look and colors of my handcrafted flowers and decorations!
What (if any) cake accessories, such as a cake stand or cake cutter, do you rent out?
I offer cake boards that are individually and personally handcrafted so that they compliment the theme, style and color of the cake. If desired, I supply cake plateaus of different sizes and styles on which the finished cake and cake board can be displayed. They are included with the cake. I also have custom, personally hand decorated, mini-cake pyramid stands.
Do you offer delivery? If yes, how much is your average delivery fee?
I offer free delivery and set up, within a 120 mile radius of my Lyme, CT custom cake kitchen. Outside that radius I charge a $50 dollar flat fee.
Additional Advice
My cakes are very detailed and time consuming. For wedding cakes I need, at least, 4 months notice.
For special occasion cakes I need up to three months notice, depending on the size and complexity of the cake.
I also offer European cakes and tortes. I will need 4 days notice for those. On average a torte will feed 10-12 people.
