Reviews for Gerhard Michler Fine European Desserts
Yes, we got the croquembouche! We're so excited because it's so different. We had a tasting with Mary Michler and she was great. Even though she knew that we wanted the croquembouche, she still gave us the cake tasting which was yummy. She even gave us the leftovers to go but unfortunately it melted in the car :(. We also went to Patiserre Delanghe on Fillmore/Bush. They are more bakery-centric so didn't offer as much customer service as we liked. Around $3.50 per person. ( 5.06)
They gave a sample croquembouche to try out. We wanted to try it out right there but we didn't have a camera so the photo is from FI's cell phone. Sorry for the blurriness but it looked great! I took a better picture of the remains when we got it home. It tasted great too! ( 07.06)
The croquembouche was a hit! Delicious and unique. Some guests thought it was a tower of garlic (??). Unfortunately, I only had the bite from the cake cutting and I should've asked for the leftovers. Eat your cake!
Mary and Gerhard Michler are amazing. Mary does a lovely presentation for the tasting, and put up with my numerous calls and visits while I designed and redesigned my wedding cake. I just couldn’t get confident about what I wanted because it was hard for me to visualize. She provided a test tier, then die-testing flower petals, all at no cost. It must have been a pain for her to put up with, but she handled it all with grace and patience.
Also, their cakes are the cheapest ones I found!!! They figure out the range of people the cake could feed, then charge you on the lower number. For example, we were planning on 85 guests, but our cake could feed 75-87 say, depending on how big you cut the pieces. We were charged on the 75 headcount. And the cake was amazing! We also got a small groom’s cake that is off their regular list of products – so scrumptious. I can’t say enough good things about these guys. I wouldn't go anywhere else for a wedding cake.
Mary is very helpful and really does a good presentation. Her tiramisu is delicious and her cakes are reasonably priced. However, we couldn't try the cake samples as a whole but instead she had different dessert pastries to try which wasn't the same. Other than that, she's very nice and gives good suggestions and charges you on the lower end of your guest count. We told her we would probably have around 100 guests and she gives you the cake that serves say 100-114 ppl but only charges you for 100 ppl.
We LOVED our cake from Gerhard Michler Bakery. We worked with Mary in the planning. She is SUPER friendly, helpful and extremely patient as we thumbed through books and ideas. They can do pretty much anything you'd like. Her office where you meet in the main bakery part where you see them making everything. The bakery is huge (based on my very limited bakery experience). There are many people working in the bakery and the thing that I noticed the most was that everybody was smiling and talking and friendly and seemed like they really enjoy what they do.
During the tasting, she had samples of icings, cakes and fillings and gave us 4 small cakes to take home and enjoy.
The day I brought our flowers for the cake, I met with the lady who was going to ice and decorate it. She was extremely friendly and wanted to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted.
The cake itself was beautiful and exactly what we asked for. We had 3 tiers, each with different cake, fillings and fresh berries. It was DELICIOUS!!!
We also had a creampuff tree for the Groom's Cake which stood 2 feet tall and looked amazing with chocolate covered strawberries and powdered sugar here and there...
Overall, I would give Gerhard Michler my highest recommendation. The prices are very reasonable (for the Bay Area), the cake is delicious and the service is terrific!
