Culinary Crafts provided catering for the "cocktail hour" portion of our wedding. Thay handled passed apps and a wine and beer bar. We had a very small guest list, so our food order was effectivly their minimum expenditure. Despite not being a huge wedding, they treated us as though we were VIP clients. Mary was very helpful in recommending a florist/coordinator and her and her team (Kaleb, Alton) were very responsive to all of my emails and questions. On the day of the event, the staff worked well with our coordinator, and were even flexible enough to begin service a little early when we had some early arrival guests. The staff were all friendly and professional. All of my guests mentioned that the food was delicious, and it was very nicely presented. Overall, I was very pleased, and would rcommend Culinary Crafts to anyone!

The food was so amazing and equally delicious! I was getting raves all night from my guests. Everyone I worked with was so amazing. Katie, Aldon, Jackie, all of them! The staff at the event was very professional and very helpful. I am so glad I went with Culinary Crafts. My wedding wouldn't have been as great without them!

So easy to work with. Very caring and willing to accommodate our needs. Great tasting food - I received many compliments from our wedding guests about the wonderful food. Very professional service staff. The place settings using their china were so elegant and romantic - and fit the theme of the wedding so very much. It was well worth the extra money for the china, rather than disposables for our buffet dinner. We used their flutes and Martinellis for toasts (since we didn't do alcohol), and that was so elegant as well. The food bag prepared for the bride and groom to take was wonderful.

My daughter saw a picture of a Culinary Crafts event when she was in high school and it was her dream to have them cater her wedding when she got married. When she became engaged years later, we weren't sure we could afford them, but decided to meet with them anyway just to see. Rachel was amazing to work with and we decided it was the best decision to choose them as our caterer. They were so awesome to work with even when I changed the entire menu from appetizer stations to a full dinner buffet A WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING! They didn't bat an eye or give me a hard time. Being a foodie it was hard to turn over the event to someone else not knowing if I would be happy. The wedding was last wednesday and we were so pleased by everything. Well, pleased isn't exactly the right word, thrilled beyond belief? That probably describes it best. The food was amazing, seriously amazing. The staff...I wanted to adopt them. They were so wonderful, helpful and perfect. They went above and beyond and were amazing. It was so great how they kept the timeline and did all the announcing and I didn't have to worry about it. The presentation and displays exceeded my expectations. Choosing Culinary Crafts was without a doubt, the best decision we made of this whole wedding process. Thanks so much to you Rachel for all you did to make this event the best day ever. You are so amazing!

I could not have been happier with the service and the food provided by Culinary Crafts. These are services that many caterers can provide for a fee, but you cannot pay for the experience and peace of mind that Culinary Crafts provides, it is priceless. We are from Texas and were hosting an out of state reception for my daughter in SLC. Marrying off your youngest daughter is traumatic enough, let alone to try and do it a 1000 miles away. Culinary Crafts provided invaluable reccommendations and thoughtful suggestions. Kaleb was responsive and helpful all along the way, as was the staff on reception day. Our guests were thrilled with the food and service. My husband and I were able to relax and enjoy the evening along with our guests. Most importantly our daughter and husband had a reception that was a wonderful beginning for their lives together.

Culinary Crafts was absolutely AMAZING! We met several times before the wedding to make the wedding be phenomenal. They personally got to know me and found ways to make the food match my personality and style. They worked with us to find food that was unique but still things that I would want at my wedding. They did much more than catering. A schedule was made and they were very resposive to get more of things that people were eating. The food was absolutely delicious and they made a take home bag for us to bring with us so we could actually try the food :) i would say Culinary Crafts made my wedding more than I could ever have imagined.

I honestly have nothing bad to say about Culinary Crafts. They were so nice and can do anything you wish. They can either do a low budget wedding or an expensive event. They are just wonderful. I love the way they present there food. It's not layed out like here you go. It is displayed on ice sculputures, high rises stands and just shown like art.

Mary Crafts and her staff were wonderful to work with. They catered my reception with a mocktail bar and a grand dessert buffet consisting of pecan pie, cheesecakes, and chocolate desserts. The mocktail bar offered two choices of drinks. The glasses were frosted with sugar around the rim and had slices of fruit hanging on the side. They were incredible. The guests enjoyed everything. The staff were pleasant and accomodating. They sliced and served the wedding cake to all the guests and put the extra desserts and leftover cake in take home containers for the parents of the bride and groom. They even made a fun bag of leftover desserts and added two bottled waters for me and my new husband to take with us as we drove away from the reception. Culinary Crafts is first class all the way.

An amazing company to work with. They are super professional, responsive, have amazing taste and fantastic food! We didn't have a wedding planner, but the Rachel and her team at CC did a fantastic job listening to what we wanted and running with it. The day of set up of the bar, dinner tables, cake, etc., were done quickly and looked amazing. They are so professinal, I didn't need a coordinator supervising them. i personally think that they offer a fantastic value for the cost. The food and set up made my wedding look we spent way more money then we did and people can't stop complimenting me on how impressed they were with the whole thing. They are the best in Utah for a reason!
GUEST

I loved them! The food was great, the service was wonderful, and the reception went VERY smoothly because I had a personal "consultant" that was making sure the reception went exactly as we had planned. The very first meeting, we went over the whole reception TIMING. They were familiar with my venue, and asked me where and when and how to put out all the food, and direct the guests and everything. After we figured out all of the timing, we picked out menus. I found that they were VERY willing to find exactly what worked for me, personally, and not just what they had always done in the past.
My only complaint is that the Salt Lake office was NOT helpful at all--in fact, I would even call them rude--- when it came to flowers and cake (extras that you can, but don't have to, add on to the catering package). Which, incidentally, caused me to seek those services elsewhere. All of the other planning was done through the Provo office.

Mary at Culinary Crafts catered our wedding this past June. To write a fantastic review is easy for us! Mary met with us several times before the wedding, even came to the location to add input in all areas of our wedding. We could not have pulled off such an amazing event without her expertise. We had a four course plated dinner for 120 people following the wedding ceremony which truly was one of the best meals I have ever had. Everyone at that dinner still comments on the quality and presentation of the meal. The reception included several different food and drink stations which created the perfect party ambience for our 500 guests. Just what we were looking for! And, I can't forget to mention the wedding cake... a chocolate delight to die for! Mary's work reflects the incredible and talented person she is. I would suggest to ONLY use Culinary Crafts!

Culinary Crafts did a fantastic job at my wedding. They worked with us to create a wonderful menu that earned numerous compliments from our guests. Rachel was very helpful in creating a time line to make our event run smoothly. Food presentation was very nice, and the staff were professional and unobtrusive. They even gave us a bag of food to take home to make sure the bride and groom had a chance to taste everything :)

Culinary Crafts recently catered my wedding. We had the opportunity to meet with them approximately four months prior to the wedding for a tasting and menu planning. I thought that the tasting was ABSOLUTELY necessary since we were planning a sit-down dinner. My fiance, mother and I enjoyed the tasting and found Mary to be very engaging and informative. She helped us come up with a specialty drink to serve at the wedding that was one of the night's hits! The food was excellent, and I fell particularly in love with the risotto (more on that in a bit). I did think that the cost of the tasting was quite steep, but I do understand that quality food and time come at a price. Because of the Banana's Foster demonstration at the tasting, we decided to include it in the wedding (Ryan, the chef, is excellent!). We did mention multiple times that my fiance had a serious shellfish allergy, it was on the notes for the tasting and was also included in the contract.
Over the next couple of months, little things came up and I found that they were quite slow to respond to emails. Wedding vendors are usually on top of responding but we could wait 5+ days for responses from them. The most disturbing of these interactions was to get our "final" menu and find that there was a shrimp appetizer. Especially after such care was made to point out that my fiance was anaphylactic to shellfish. Once pointed out, they replaced it with a salmon appetizer, though we had specifically mentioned that the salmon was not our favorite amongst the appetizers we had tried. I pointed this out multiple times, and salmon was still served at the wedding. Oh well, small point and the rest of the appetizers were amazing!
Fast forward to wedding day. First, everyone raved about the food. The presentation was beautiful, the service was excellent and the food delicious. Second, the staff were very helpful with how to cut the wedding cake etc. Everyone was very professional. The only thing that bothered me was when my plate was served the risotto I loved was not on it! They had replaced it with some other rice dish that really wasn't a risotto, more like a creamy pilaf. Everybody loved it, but I was really disappointed.
All in all, I do not regret hiring them. They were professional and provided excellent service. The appetizers were to die for, and the main course was very good. Unfortunately we didn't get to taste the Banana's Foster at the wedding, we were too busy, but everyone said it was excellent. You do have to be very patient when waiting for responses, and double and triple check to make sure that you get exactly what you want. I think that because they are Utah's Premier catering company that they get a bit busy and may just try to do the easiest thing for them rather than taking the time to pay attention to some of the minute details.
*Amendment (5/1/11) - After reading this review I received a lovely email from Mary Crafts (the head of Culinary Crafts). She explained that the communication issues were not from their end but rather from my previous wedding planner. Once she explained, it was very evident that all of the issues were a result of a poor planner (who I fired two weeks before the wedding). Even though the issues were not hers, she was very apologetic and lovely. They are even sending us "behind-the-scenes" pictures to add to our wedding album. Would highly recommend Culinary Crafts not only because of their excellent catering skills, but their professionalism in a very delicate situation.

I loved meeting with Rayna, her fiancée, and mother. As lived out of state, they had hired a wedding planner in California. I found the planner to less than responsive and I would often wait weeks for her to return an email or call. She noted some of Rayna's concerns about the risotto having Parmesan, so I suggested a Creamy Rice Pilaf without Parmesan. I also asked her to confirm all the menu including my suggestion for a Caramelized Salmon with Mango Salsa on Roasted Corn Cake. I heard from the planner the menu had been approved. I prefer to work directly with the bride on crucial details such as the final menu.

I already knew I wanted to use them based on other weddings I had attended so this was an easy choice.
We had a great experience with Culinary Crafts. They helped us plan a custom menu based on our two cultures (Alabama and France). The amazing food is what my guests are still talking about- we were even able to try it all ourselves.
Weather was a last minute problem and they had a back-up plan and executed that quickly and efficiently without having to worry about another thing on the big day.
The staff was great to work with an professional.

The catering at our back-yard wedding was incredible -- some said "wedding of the year" -- and it was largely due to the food quality, presentation, and taste. Mary, the owner of Culinary Crafts, is the consummate professional. She knows her craft (no pun intended) and she runs her operations with precision. She is not the least expensive option, but she is the best option and the value is very, very high, even when adjusted for the cost. She is very busy due to her success, so planning early is a must.

Working with Mary and the Culinary Crafts team was easy and met all of my expectations. As big and busy as they are, they gave me a lot of personal attention and were very flexible and accommodating. I got so many comments on how amazing the food was and how much everyone enjoyed the presentation of it all. I could not have been happier with them!

Culinary Crafts did a fabulous job! The food was fantastically prepared and displayed and I didn't have to worry about anything the day of my wedding. Although they aren't the least expensive option, the final product and peace of mind Culinary Crafts delivers is worth every cent! They also know everything about the local venues and left me with no concerns that everything would turn out perfectly.
The night of my event, I had the most kind and professional on-site staff members to work through the evening. They were flexible and lovely to work with.
Everything I could have hoped for in a caterer. I worried about nothing on my wedding day!

They went above and beyond to make my day special. :) A little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for! Everyone commented on how amazing our food was and the great service provided by the staff.

Their food was amazing. I had a dessert buffet and it all looked great. They were a little slow responding to my emails, and the stand they brought for my cake wasn't at all what they said it would be. A 8x8x4 inch box became two smaller boxes stacked unevenly. However, as I said before, their food was great and I would recommend them.
GUEST

They did a wonderful job with the food presentation. Everything was arranged so beatifully from the buffet table to the bar. The servers were very professional and attentive. The food is average but all their services and presentation made them appear spetacular. The staff are great at helping you design a menu that is uniquely for your occasion and your budget. They have somethin for every budget and makes them all glamorous. I highly recommend them.

FAQ for Culinary Crafts
2) It's never too early or too late to start planning. Yes, every bride loves to have 12 months to plan her special day but that is not always possible....especially in Utah! The first order of business is to decide on your wedding location. Venues can usually only accommodate one wedding a day and good venues go quickly. An seasoned and experienced caterer can serve from 3 to 10 brides on any busy wedding day---all with flawless perfection. However, not all caterers are set up to handle multiple weddings with enough staff and equipment. Make sure that you select a caterer that is capable of handling the busy wedding days with ease and grace, and not simply buying tons of frozen foods and ordering inexperienced staff from a staffing agency.
3) I love wedding that have a theme other than "simple elegance"! Themes can reflect a bride and groom's interests, travels, hobbies, colors, or style. Some brides select themes based on current trends such as "Vintage Chic" with the use of black and white damask linens and updated classic foods. Other brides select a location theme such as "Bali, India" using colorful fabrics and unique ethnic foods. There is nothing better than guests arriving at the celebration to exclaim: "This is perfect! It looks just like Jessica and her personal style." Together the bride and her caterer can create a memorable evening that guests will remember and applaud.
4) One of the newest trends to come around in the wedding world is the use of lounge furniture at a reception. This is usually a cozy area arranged with sofas, end tables, ottomans, or even just jumbo pillows where family and close friends can relax away from the hussle and bussle of the celebration. For years, we have been using high boy tables around the dance floor as a great place for guests to gather in the center of the action. Now, we are providing lounge spaces for guests to gather for more intimate conversation and breath of fresh air. A welcome idea for the large or small reception.
5) The Butler-passed Hors d'oeuvre will never go out of style. What could be more gracious than serving guests one-on-one with trays of exquisitely garnished bite-sized masterpieces by handsome waiters. Fabulous! It is the perfect way to greet guests before a wedding dinner and start the conversation hour. It is also a gracious way to greet guests at a large reception as waiters share the vision and flow of the evening with newly arriving guests. If the bride is planning a receiving line, the passed hors d'oeuvre is a welcome treat as guests wait to greet the couple. A beverage station positioned by the entrance is another way to say "Welcome--we're so glad you're here"!
