I found Custom Creations & Invitations on The Knot and one weekend that I happened to be in Detroit, my mother and I went over to Karen's studio to meet her and check out prices. By the time we left Karen had designed my invitation and promised a date for my mother to return and review the proof.
The results were AMAZING! I've had people commenting on their RSVP cards how it is the most beautiful invitation they had ever seen.
The best part? Karen was able to not only create exactly what I wanted but the price was amazing as well. $5 per invite! Karen and her team pour their hearts into these invitations and it shows.
She is located in Metro Detroit but will take orders from anywhere.. I HIGHLY recommend using her for your invitation...

Karen at Custom Creations and Invitations did a beautiful job creating my invitations for my wedding. Going into the whole process was a little overwhelming but Karen was able to capture my vision as to what I wanted within my budget. My guests are commenting on how beautiful our invitations are and how they want to frame them. I highly recommend future brides to go with invitations from Karen's company. She does a fantastic job while delivering top-notch service.

I will start by saying our invitations looked beautiful. However, it was a major nightmare of an experience. We were excited for our invitations to go out, until we learned from our guests that several invitations were missing the response cards; the envelope on the back of the invite never got stuffed. Many people received a return envelop without postage and had to pay for the postage themselves--something we certainly didn't want out guests to have to do. Not only was this embarrassing for us, we felt terrible that our guests were confused as to how they were supposed to RSVP without a response card. Although Karen was apologetic, she was rather defensive about this mishap. She often implied that she thought I was lying about the amount of invitations that were missing cards, so this was both insulting and frustrating as we were trying to rectify this horrible mistake. After many phone calls and debates over this, I thought the reasonable solution would be to re-send enclosure cards to all of the people on the guest list that we had not heard from. Karen did not like this idea as she felt it was a waste of postage, but we were approaching deadlines with out venue that needed a final count. She expressed several times that she had to do this at her own expense, but shouldn't she? I mean we paid for the enclosure cards and the postage the first time around and, unfortunately, our invitations were sent out incomplete. This mistake affected our hotel block deadline, our final count deadline with our venue, among other things. This caused a lot of embarrassment and stress on our behalf, as we felt like we paid for invites and ended up having to do a lot of the leg work in fixing this situation. It was tacky all the way around. Because of this, our guests only had 5 days to rsvp to our wedding, which I know was not appreciated for their planning purposes. Another thing, Karen gave, what she said was a few of our envelopes that we ordered, to another customer, so she gave us some different ones. They were larger, and ended up costing more money in postage. And a few was like 35. Although she did comply to resend out enclosure cards to the guests that we had not heard from yet (possible because their invites were lacking these), she was not happy to do this and included a note in the envelope that put the blame on my husband and me for the mistake (she thought this would make light of the situation). We also ordered our seating chart from Karen (which was very nice looking), and when I proposed to her the idea of her comping the 190 dollars for the HUGE inconvenience this whole experience cause, she was enraged. She was very rude to me on the phone. She did not agree to comp the seating chart, rather she said she would make us table numbers. Wanting to be done corresponding back and forth about this, I accepted that resolution, and they did turn out nice. All in all, this experience in working with Karen started off exciting, and resulted in a lot of stress, embarrassment, and tears. Invitations play an important role in the wedding--they should have been checked for completion and accuracy before being put into the envelope. I will not discredit her work in designing the invitations; ours were beautiful, but appearance proved not to be everything.

I feel obligated to respond to the lengthy comments of this particular bride. An error was indeed made and some of the pockets were minus the enclosures. It was unfortunate and embarrassing, and profuse apologies were made, though it was difficult due to the inappropriate behavior of the parties involved, via both phone and email assaults on me personally. The error was rectified in a very timely manner and with absolutely NO defensiveness, nor rudeness, nor unhappiness in doing whatever we could to comply and resolve the issue. My personality is not such that I would ever become "enraged" at anyone, let alone a valued client. The comments were untrue and offensive. Nothing of that nature ever took place. We are professional, dedicated to our clientele, and always willing to go the extra mile.

Be sure to keep your receipt for the price decided upon at your meeting. Also be sure it is clear what the final draft of the invitation is. There's so much you can do with your invite, so make sure you get what you want! Karen helped us put together the perfect invite. It does take quite a bit of time and energy to choose the papers, wording and fonts so make sure you set aside enough time to do so.

How wonderful it was that we found Karen. She worked closely with us to design our wedding invitations. Her ideas were excellent and her selection of papers unbelievable. We received so may wonderful compliments on the invitations. The coordinator at the facility where we had our wedding was so impressed she place Custom Creations & Invitations on their preferred list of vendors. I actually found the entire process to be relaxing as well as enjoyable.

I spent weeks looking for invitations that were unique and showed off my personal sense of style. After looking at books of cookie-cutter invitations, I'm so glad my planner recommended Karen and Custom Creations. I walked into her studio and after looking at exotic papers, beautiful ribbons and so many designs, we were able to create invitations that were perfect. Our invitations were so stunning, people said they couldn't throw them away. In fact, one of our guests from Germany took them door to door to show them off to their neighbors in their small German town! If you want something special, custom and will set the tone of your wedding or event, you will not be disappointed with what Karen and her staff will create.

Karen... we appreciate your talent, creativity and attention to detail. Our framed reception seating chart and memorial poem were one of the highlights of the evening. Thank you so much for your flexibility and suggestions in creating both of these beautiful items!

Be sure to look at the front and back of every piece of the invitation before leaving with them. Some of my postcards were one-sided and didn't have our address or stamps on them. We also had a problem with our reception cards. They had to be redone and mailed to us. When I went to stuff them in the invitations, I realized they were done on a different color paper than the rest of the invitation. I just dealt with it because I didn't want to wait for them to get redone again. We were able to negotiate a good price and the vendor never let us forget it. She made it seem like she was doing us a favor.

I'm so sorry you found your experience unsatisfactory. On the rare occasion that there is an error on our part (and sometimes the error is on the client's part as well...) we always...always...make it good, often going over and above what should have been compensated, to insure our client's satisfaction. Please remember that every invitation, enclosure card, and other stationery items are all made by hand. Once in a great while, because we are human, an error may occur. Again, any error is corrected to the client's satisfaction, plus we often offer additional items at no charge along with our sincerest apologies. Our client's rely on our sincerity, honesty and good judgment and our very reasonable pricing, especially for the quality of the custom products they receive. Our clients seem to be very satisfied with what we do for them, for which we are very thankful.

I really enjoyed working with Karen on my wedding invitations. I like it so much that I decided to go work for and I continue to enjoy working with Karen. I have a new appreciation for beautiful wedding invitations!

Karen worked with us the whole way. The invitations that we wanted were original and classy and they were even better then we could of ever thought.

The ceremony programs were beautifully done. Unfortunately, our experience renting a seating chart was horrendous. She was unusually anal about her frames and even followed my maid of honor and myself to the car when we came to pick it up and kept hovering saying “didn’t I tell you to bring an SUV?” (she never did, btw.) She required a hefty security deposit for the frame upon picking it up to ensure it came back without major damages. When my parents dropped off the chart she refused to unwrap it from the bubble wrap to check for damages while they were there. A few days later we received a severely threatening email (on our HONEYMOON) accusing us of “destroying” her frame and threatening legal action if we didn’t respond and pay her the $50 we owed her for the programs. She was extremely unprofessional about the entire situation. My husband and I still feel she was lying about the damages in order to keep our security deposit. We asked to see photos of the damages and she has never provided any – even though she claims to have them. We would NEVER recommend using her Seating Charts after the experience we had. IF you choose to use her, insist she unwrap the frame when you return it to check for damages so you can see for yourself.

Oh my, I must say that you do misrepresent what actually happened. It is our policy to request a deposit on the expensive seating chart frame and easel when they leave here, just as other vendors do with their products. It is never cashed and is always refundable within one week...(after we get a chance to look at it)... unless there is damage. In your case, you rented a brand new frame, its first time out. Note: As the owner, I always go to the car to help figure out the best way to transport the items so they aren't damaged. Your seating chart was returned to us with BROKEN GLASS in two places, the corners of the frame were ACTUALLY SEPARATED, and the frame itself was all SCRATCHED UP. (I do have pictures...my framer took them. You never asked for them.) I had to have it completely replaced at a cost of over $200.00. You also never paid for your programs...I trusted you to do that when you returned with the seating chart, as you asked me to...although you owed me the money, you chose not to pay for the programs you ordered and received. There are always two sides to every story, the correct one, and the incorrect one. I hold the proof of who was actually at fault. It's unfortunate you see it differently. I do wish you both well in your new life together.
Note: After reading this review, I emailed this client the 8 pictures taken of the highly damaged seating chart frame (and scratched easel as well). We are an honest, Christian business and would never, ever take advantage of a client in the way she states we did.

Karen was WONDERFUL to work with! The invitations are beautiful and the quality of her work is exceptional. Everything was completed promptly and she was very organized throughout the process. After seeing how beautiful she made my invitations, I also decided to have her make programs, wine bottle collars, small favor tags, and thank you notes for my wedding. She is a joy to work with and is very accommodating! I will definitely recommend her to all of my friends :)

My husband and I went with Custom Creations and Invitations to do our invitations and seating chart and we could not have been more pleased! We met Karen and in about an hour we had created a one of a kind invitation that said "me." We really enjoyed that it was custom made and that no one else had anything like it. Karen was so great to work with. She responded back to emails almost as fast as I got them out! She also always threw in little freebies, such as printed flowers on return labels, and making extra envelopes. The cost was very reasonable that we were able to add in extras that we did not think we could have afforded! Karen also did a wonderful job with our seating chart! People are still talking about both! We definitely would recommend Custom Creations and Invitations.

Teresa, you were such a pleasure to work with! I loved your theme of the orange Gerber daisy and the beautiful embossed papers you chose...carrying the theme to your seating chart was fun and looked great too! (Your wedding pictures were awesome!) What a beautiful couple...Thank you so much for your kind comments.

Karen is the sweetest lady and is one of the most creative people I know. When you go to her house, her office is in her basement. She has so many samples to show you and she works with a lot of brides. I would recommend booking her early rather than later. I booked her kind of late but she was still able to work with me and our end product wedding invites were absolutely amazing! We did a “Happily Ever After” theme invite with a castle! We received so many compliments and to this day people want to book her! You can choose what you want made and she will do it. She will do her best to work within your budget and she gave us some extra’s. It was an hour drive for us but worth the drive in a heartbeat. Tell her Prince and Princess sent you and she will most likely know who that is =) It is simply amazing what she can do with invites. People book her a year and two years in advance that is how popular she is!

I stumbled upon Karen at a bridal show after scouring the internet for invitations that weren't too "cutesy" - I'm just not that kind of bride. She was a joy to work with and was soon throwing ideas out so fast it made my head spin. Our initial planning appointment took a few hours, but in that time we had paper colors, font, and wording picked out. I had a draft from her within a day or two. She was very communicative throughout the whole process so I knew I never had to worry about how my invitations were going. They were even done earlier than she estimated! With all the stress that wedding planning can bring, this was one area that was just a breeze. Thank you Karen!

I'm so glad you were happy with everything we created for your wedding...we did have fun, didn't we? I loved your choice of papers and the design we created. My favorite part is in getting to see pictures from the wedding...sometimes it takes a while before they're available and I'm always so anxious to see them...kinda makes me feel I was part of the wedding. : > Thanks so much for your vote of confidence and kind review!

Karen was great to work with. My husband and I were looking for invitations that we both could like and with her help we created a completely unique invitation and program. Within one hour of sitting down with her we had hand picked ever detail from paper type, color; ribbon type, color; invitation wording, font, etc. It was so fun to actually be able to pick each of those details. It was hard looking at other places where everything was already picked and I just could not find anything I loved that was not extremely expensive. We also came to Karen with a budget and she worked around that. Our invitations were very unique and we received so many compliments. Many people usually do not even remember the invitation and throw them away, but this was not the case with ours. Karen also did our programs that coordinated with our invitations. It was a create little booklet that held all the information nicely. Karen not only is a great designer but she is so helpful with every aspect of the wedding. She offered a lot of assistance with wording, poems, dedications, etc. Everything was great!

Karen was very helpful and patient with us as we worked to design a wedding invitation for our daughters wedding. They came out wonderful and we couldn't be happier. We got many compliments on them. She also did the programs for us and they came out great as well. She is very knowledgeable and does many creative things based on what you are looking for. We highly recommend her.

Hello Sharlene, I'm so pleased you were happy with everything we did for Laurel's wedding. It was fun creating your "pretty in pink" invitations and programs. I also thank you for the wedding pictures you sent. The bride looked radiant! I really appreciate the kind review and wish all of you the very best! Karen

When it came to invitations and guest lists, I was probably a vendor's worst nightmare bride. I was a huge procrastinator, but Karen made sure that everything was done on time and looked fantastic! She even wrote the notes from the bride and groom in the programs for me so I didn't have to worry about it. With Custom Creations, you can be as involved as you want to be and always come out with a good product in the end. I would definately use this vendor in the future for baby showers or anniversary parties, etc.

About Custom Creations & Invitations
Every invitation and accessory is made by hand - to be uniquely You. You are a part of the design process... we do not do die-cuts or pre-made invitations; no more picking something out of a book where everything looks
the same! We have privileged access to over 3,000 handmade papers from all over the world.
Custom Creations and Invitations has a unique and different approach to invitations. You will meet with the owner/designer in person or online if out-of-state, to discuss your vision and just what you wish to convey to your
guests with your invitations. She will quickly discern what your style and taste is, and you are soon busy designing something special for you. Every invitation is made by hand. The excitement is contagious as ideas, papers, charms, ribbons
fly with abandoned enthusiasm as your ideas are put to paper. The process is lots of fun, whether you’re meeting in person or are in another state or country. We offer many additional options and personalization, including unique
wedding programs, placecards, thank you’s, addressing your envelopes, custom calligraphy, favor tags and so much more.
We have something for every budget, beginning at $4.00 (which includes the reception and response cards) to the sublime, where your desires are created exactly as you wish, using unique papers, rhinestone buckles, gorgeous ribbons and embellishments. If you can dream it, we can create it for you - at a price you can afford.
Consultations are free - and lots of fun! It’s a collaborative effort and you’ll be pleased with the end result. We recommend you call for an appointment 4 - 5 months before your wedding, if possible, so that we will have ample time to individually hand-craft each special invitation for you. (This advance notice is preferable but not mandatory - we also do rush orders for a small fee). It is a personal, one-on-one experience that you will thoroughly enjoy...AND...all at a price you can afford. We look forward to meeting you!
FAQ for Custom Creations & Invitations
Q. How much are your invitations? A. They begin at $4.00 for our basic invitation (which is still unique), and this includes the reception and response card and envelopes, to over $10 for something sublime! !It all depends on what you’re looking for, the papers you choose, the extras you want, the number of invitations you need, and what your budget will allow. We work with any budget requirements and try very hard to give you exactly what you want...at a price you can afford.
Q. How are they paid for? A. After our initial discussion, you either schedule a return appointment or are sent a jpg of the draft idea we’ve created together. Papers and other options are discussed, approximate pricing is then calculated, and once you are satisfied and give your approval to begin the process, a 50% deposit is required. Changes are happily made after that deposit also. Nothing is final until you make that final decision to sign off on the drafts as the final versions. The balance of the invitation package isn’t due until your invitations are completed.
Because of the unique nature of our invitations, and because each one is custom designed and made by hand, we need to ask as much lead time as possible. Many people looking for unique invitations think that because their wedding is "a long way off" they don’t need to think about it yet. When invitations are custom made, six months away is NOT very far away for those assembling and creating them. We want to make every invitation as perfect as possible and need to allow enough time to ensure that all our orders are processed in a timely manner. (Bottom line: Please don’t wait until the last minute! :)
