Planning a wedding on a tight budget is no easy task, and we knew we would have to make sacrifices. Every photographer we looked at was either completely beyond our budget or the pictures were so cookie-cutter and seemingly of low quality, that we had pretty much resigned ourselves to not having a photographer for our wedding.

We were so happy to come across the listing for D.R. Photography and Design--not only did we really like their pictures, their pricing was so reasonable! We met with them to look over their portfolio and discuss the different options that are were available. We knew right away that their style of photography and their approach to our event was exactly what we were looking for. Nick and Jill were so friendly and easy to work with, they were very responsive to our emails and questions, provided us with a straight-forward contract, and were very flexible with our contract when we needed to make some adjustments to it.

As for the services themselves--we couldn't be happier. We had Nick taking our photos, and during the reception so many of our friends commented on how great of a job he was doing. He was seemingly everywhere, yet very unobtrusive with our guests--some of them said how they wished they had had someone like that at their wedding. After the ceremony we spent a few minutes taking some portraits with family, then Nick had scouted out a visually interesting place near the reception to take some photos of just the two of us, and quickly got us back to the party!

We received the links to our online gallery about 3 weeks after the wedding, which was great to share with our family and friends who live all over the US and Canada. With four hours of coverage we ended up with over 500 photos, and this was after the first edit done by Nick and Jill. Looking at the photos was so much fun! Nick captured so many small moments not just between my husband and I, but also among our families and guests. The perspective is so fresh and modern--the colors are bright and crisp. We narrowed down our "favorite favorites" to about 200 great photos! We've received tons of compliments on all of our photos. The DVD copies of our photos (which comes with a print release) were of equally high quality and we love the ability to print our own photos as gifts and for years to come.

I really can't recommend D.R. Photography and Design enough. From their great design and quality photography, to their professionalism and friendliness, to their very reasonable pricing, I really believe they are the best value around Pittsburgh for great photos of your event--we LOVE ours!

Choosing your wedding photographer is no small task—you want your pictures to show details of your wedding. You also want your photographers to get candid photos of you and your guests and capture the overall tone of the day. Nick and Jill did just that. They took the portrait shots that we wanted and managed to take candid shots throughout the entire day without interrupting anything (dances, conversations, etc). They have good prices, are super friendly and easy to work with, dress professionally, and quickly respond to any questions we have (even now that the wedding is over—we still have questions about albums). We have received compliments from everyone who has looked at our pictures. We highly recommend D.R. Photography and will be sure to use their services in the future.

I would definitely recommend D.R. Photography and Design for anyone seeking a professional photographer for their wedding. Jill and Nik did a wonderful job photographing our wedding; they were professional, accommodating, and we were extremely pleased with the selection of photos.

Jill and Nick were wonderful. They were one of the most professional vendors we dealt with, and the vendor with which I was happiest! They went out of our way to work with our budget and give us the services we wanted. Their rates are reasonable as well. During the wedding I got several compliments on both photographer's easygoing yet professional demeanor, and when the photos arrived my husband and I could not have been happier with the results. I would recommend them without reservation.

Nick was great. Funny guy and he made taking pictures a lot of fun. He was there to take pictures of everything but you never noticed that he was there. A real professional.

We loved our photographs from the big day! Everything goes by so quickly, I really appreciate being able to relive our day through the gorgeous photographs. I loved that our photos were a good combination of candid and posed shots and we have received numerous compliments!

DR Photoggraphy was absolutely great to work with, and their finished product was just what I was looking for. I was extremely pleased with the way that they were always resonsive to my questions via email and phone. They are very internet-literate and it was a breeze to communicate electronically.
The photos of my wedding capture everything about the day I was hoping for. The portraits are great, and the many, many candid shots (taken in a very pleaseing photo-journalistic style) allow me to have experienced the event just like many of my guests did. I would highly recommend DR photography to any and everyone.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?

Whether it's candlelight or the bright midday sun, we have the experience and equipment to handle any lighting situation and make it work to our advantage.

Is your media preference film or digital?

We shoot digitally, with a shooting philosophy akin to shooting with film. We aim to provide images straight out of the camera.

How many photographers do you work with?

D.R. Photography & Design is the joint effort of two photographers, Nicolas and Jill Duarte. We do work with additional photographers as needed.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?

Yes. If for any reason the photographer(s) listed on your contract is not able to make it (act of God, sickness) you will contacted ASAP and given the option of using another photographer.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?

We do not book more than one event a day.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

Yes, we know several great photographers in the area that can fill in as needed.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?

We typically will have 3 camera bodies, an assortment of lenses, a large assortment of memory cards, several hot-shoe flashes, and a variety of other photographic equipment.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?

Yes, we always have at least one backup setup with us.

Do you charge hourly or full day?

We charge hourly.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?

We are available to shoot additional hours. The cost is $200/hour, with a $50 discount if booked prior to the date of the event.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

We only take breaks if they are included in the contract. We do not require clients to provide meals, but we certainly appreciate it.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?

Proofs are available approximately two weeks after your wedding

In what format are the initial proofs offered?

Initial proofs are provided in an online viewing gallery. Full resolution digital files are also provided.

How long can the client keep the proofs?

The proof book and DVD are for the client to keep.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?

We retain copyright, but grant exclusive non-commercial rights to our clients that allow them complete personal use of the photos. This includes making their own prints, sharing with family and friends, etc.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?

We only preserve the right to use the photos for promotional use only. We would contact our client prior to using the photos in any other way.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?

Yes. We provide full resolution JPEG images on archival DVD.

Will images be available for viewing online?

Yes. We provide online viewing galleries.

What kind of albums do you offer?

We offer stylish square 10x10" coffee table style albums.

When will the client get the final album?

Albums are usually ready approximately 4 weeks after the client approves a digital proof. Digital proofs are made available approximately one week after pictures are selected for the album.
