Dani is a great photographer-- we love our engagement/wedding photos, and so does our family (and we are difficult to please). She is also a pleasure to work with-- full of great ideas and easygoing.
Dani made us feel like a priority. She even scouted out possible locations to do our wedding/engagement portraits in advance with me so we could confirm the locations would work with our schedule and our aesthetic style.
It was important to us that our wedding photographer capture the key events and mood of the day while not interfering with our or our guests' experience. I would not assign that task to an amateur. Dani exceeded our expectations. Guests even commented that they were impressed with how she got some amazing action/dancing shots while not interrupting the dancing at all.
Dani took the time to understand our goals and even offered suggestions. With her years of experience and connection to other vendors, it was like we hired a photographer and event planner in one!
We hope to hire Dani to celebrate other life events!

Dani was great to work with and quite funny as well. She knew how to make a fluffy girl look good!

My fiance and I were pretty jittery about picking a photographer. It seems like it's impossible to get a photo that both of us look normal in. We are also on the introverted side and wanted to work with someone that could maybe bring us out of our shells during the sessions.
We loved working with Dani! She is totally down to earth and made us both feel at ease. She paid attention to every detail and you could tell she really cared about getting the shots. It paid off because we LOVE LOVE LOVE our wedding photos. Many of our guests also commented on how much they love our photos and how appreciative they were that Dani (or her 2nd photographer) took a minute to primp them (fix an out of place hair or hem line) before taking the shot.
I totally recommend Dani--she is super witty and fun to work with. She was flexible about meeting times/places and always got back to us right away. She is also definitely connected with other high quality photographers if you feel you need two at your wedding, and her packages that included a 2nd photographer were reasonable.
Good luck!

Dani was a true pleasure to work with and the quality of her wedding photographs left me speechless! Dani was perfect for our Wedding day, she was punctual, patient, creative and inspiring! Dani was exceptionally helpful prior to and after the event. Turnaround of photographs was quick and we couldn’t be happier with the finished product! I cannot rate Dani highly enough!

Dani is a real pleasure to work with. During the months before my event she spent a lot of time on the phone with me to discuss the photography which inadvertently led to discussing all of our event plans which she ended up being really helpful with. Out of all of the vendors we worked with, Dani was the easiest to work with; and the most responsive, professional, and helpful.
Her photos were beautiful and she was impressive with corralling and managing large groups of people including small children. I thought I would like B&W, but the colors in the color-photos looked even more amazing than they did in person on a sunny Seattle day! Dani Weiss is a breath of fresh air in the PNW events industry.

Dani did an excellent job with our wedding photographs. She was an extremely personable, meeting with us beforehand and making sure we (and she) knew exactly what we wanted. She answered all questions we had and anticipated ones we didn't yet know we had. And the photographs she took at the wedding were absolutely beautiful!
GUEST

We got good pictures in all of the key shots even with people that don't usually photograph well. The pictures of the groom and I were especially lovely and the collection of poses. Sweet pictures of all the parents and the kids. Candids of the ceremony were a bit tricky with a small and crowded deck that didn't allow for good angles.
Dani was easy to work with and helped us find ways to work within our photography budget. She was flexible and professional.
GUEST

Dani worked with us very creatively to find a way to work with our budget and help us have great shots from our wedding.
She was able to get good shots even of the family members that never take good photos. We had great family shots of all the groups and of us (the bride and groom). Candids of the wedding itself were a little tricky because of our small and crowded deck, but some good shots there too.
GUEST

Dani was great! She helped us out numerous times with little "fixes"- dabbing lint away, or sewing a loose thread on a dress bust. She takes charge, knows what she'd doing, but definitely listens, and has a great sense of humor! Very comfortable to work with!

This was our second wedding with Dani Weiss Photography. Can't say enough good things about her and the quality of her work! She always made sure the focus was on capturing the event and never about displaying her work. Her work is excellent which speaks for itself. Dani was a lot of fun to work with. She took charge as needed and made use of all opportunities for unique shots. I would recommend her without any hesitation!

Dani photographed my elopement. She was great! I gave her a little over a months notice and it was no problem. She was available every time I called. She made suggestions that were useful and pertinent to my situation. The day of the wedding, she was punctual. My husband and I feel that she captured the mood of our wedding day perfectly. This was especially important to us because the only glimpse our families got of our special day were through these pictures. I relive that day every time I look at them. I look forward to doing business with Dani in the future!

On July 2, 2011, Erin and I had our commitment ceremony at the beautiful Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland, WA. We were smart to hire Dani Weiss as our photographer and so happy she was not booked that day! Dani captured the day from pre wedding to our departure on the Woodmark's Chris-Craft boat perfectly. We had provided a list of special people and shots we wanted and she took them all while allowing the guests to fully enjoy our celebration. We found Dani from her awesome website and blog and appreciated seeing examples of her work. In December of 2010, Dani took our engagement photos and this ensured that we were very relaxed in the pictures on our wedding day. She was so easy to work with and available for any questions we had in the planning for the ceremony. The pictures we ordered and have given as gifts are beautiful! Thanks, Dani! You made our day even more wonderful!

We chose Dani to photograph our wedding and could not be happier! From my first conversation with Dani, she made me laugh and charmed me with her fun personality. From that point on she was always responsive and available to answer my questions and was incredibly helpful with recommendations.
I quickly realized that with Dani's many years of experience as a wedding photographer, that not only is she an amazing artist, but also full of fabulous wedding advice!! From decisions on color choices & makeup artists to input on our wedding time line, she was right there to help. I loved that Dani would always be direct and honest with me, but with a side kick of humor that just seemed to relax me and make everything fun.
When the wedding day came, Dani was organized and professional and again, incredibly helpful. She captured the fun and beauty of our wedding in photo after photo, from spontaneous moments down to the smallest details, and did not miss a thing. Thanks to Dani, we have beautiful photos to last forever.

Dani is amazing. Not only is she a fabulous photographer, she is a very fun person to work with! She is also very organized and and extraordinarily helpful when it comes to putting the details of the wedding together. We planned our wedding from across the country and didn't need a wedding coordinator because Dani was so helpful with every aspect of the event.

Dani photographed our commitment ceremony in September 2010 and she did a great job of capturing the look and feel of the day. In planning our event, we originally wanted an emphasis on "celebration" (vs. ceremony). We held this as an open house with a time-out for us to say a few words and invite a blessing from our families and friends. In short, we wanted someone to document the party and capture the spontaneity of the moment. We were happy with the quality of her work and pleased with the result.
We met with Dani in advance and she showed us her work. She had a lot of examples that seemed to resonate with what we wanted. We're not particularly camera shy, but we originally didn't want a lot of posed pictures--just some fun family groupings. We followed Dani's guidance and had some family picture groupings before the event started. One of Dani's great qualities is her way of "herding cats". She was assertive, but kept things light and relaxed in getting our families in place (not an easy task with a group that doesn't like having their picture taken).
Dani was prepared, professional, and as much "personal assistant" as photographer. She checked in with me and my partner throughout the evening to make sure things were going ok and that we were taking care of ourselves. I'd definitely recommend Dani.

Dani was perfect for our big day! We have a very large family and she was able to efficiently work her way through all the family members and also make everyone laugh for the photos. She was great at taking traditional pictures, but our favorite part was her creative perspective. We enjoyed working with Dani and she will be the first person we'll call if we ever need a photographer again.
GUEST

Dani is a hugely talented and flexible photographer. We just finished making albums and we are delighted with the results! Despite very challenging circumstances (pouring rain for an outdoor wedding and reception) she captured our big day beautifully. She also knows the wedding business inside and out and will give candid advice about just about anything related to weddings. She has a great sense of humor and she's fun to be around. We recommend her highly!
GUEST

From my very first inquiry to the editing process we are in now, working with Dani has been AMAZING! She is extremely attentive and gave us honest feedback when we'd share our ideas. She accommodated us at the last minute to take advantage of a great weather opportunity for our engagement photos. She checked in with us often and kept us on schedule, and, besides her professionalism, she was also so much fun to work with and be around. Her photography was one of only two things that I never worried once about from the moment we were in contract (our caterer was the other).
Oh yeah, did I mention that she takes incredible photos, too? We love, love, love our photos! We can't wait until we need her services again.

Dani Weiss was exactly what we were looking for in a photographer. They were very friendly, easy to work with, and makes things very easy. Best of all, the photos were up on her website for us to see the very next day!! She was even a good sport when I made her take a picture with me :).We love the beautiful photos!!
GUEST

We loved Dani, she was professional and so kind.My pictures are absolutely beautiful!I would recommend Dani to anyone.
GUEST

I strongly recommend Dani Weiss. She was very easy to talk to and I was confident leading up to the wedding that she understood what was important to us. She wrangled family for formal pictures efficiently without being too bossy and was stealthy enough to capture great candids during our event. She has a fun, upbeat personality and we all (guests included) found her to be warm and friendly while also getting the job done.
GUEST

Dani is very professional and makes great recommendations for shot lists. We were very happy with the quality of her photographs and her flexibility. She knows what she's doing and was very helpful. I would feel comfortable recommending her to people I know.
GUEST

Dani was very professional and provided the attention and creativity that we wanted for the photos. We will use her again should the need arise.

My partner and I did a lot of research and deliberated thoroughly before hiring a photographer for our July 2008 wedding. We were looking for someone who would take excellent photos to tell the story of the day, but it was equally important to us that we find someone with whom we were comfortable, someone who would not be at all squeamish about two men walking down the aisle. We didn't want to break the bank, but we agreed that photography was important enough to be one of our bigger expenses, since the images would shape our memories of the day and last a lifetime.
We found Dani's website online, and then met her the very next day at a wedding show. And we kept running into her! She showed us her work, took the time to meet with us, and really won us over. As I mentioned already, we did interview a number of other photographers but we kept coming back to Dani because of her experience, professionalism, quality and, frankly, her humor.
Leading up to our wedding, she was extremely helpful with reminders and recommendations. About a month before our wedding, I got the idea of doing a large group shot of all of our wedding guests together; Dani and I discussed the pros and cons, and she was very willing to try and make that happen for us (which she did, beautifully).
On the day of the wedding, she and her second shooter were absolute pros, so pleasant, fun and thorough. The photos they took for us do indeed capture the people, details, and both the big and small moments of the day, but the emotion also comes through very strongly--such beautiful and loving shots. Dani was very timely in turning the photos around and posting our website, especially during her busiest time of the year.
We were entirely pleased and would recommend her without hesitation.

Dani was great! We loved our pictures and she did everything we wanted her to do.

Dani did a great job for our wedding; from engagement photos through the ceremony and reception. Beautiful mix of black and white classic-looking pics and more standard color pics. Plus just a fun lady and a good person. Our friends had previously hired Dani for their wedding and recommended her; we certainly do as well.

What I like most about Dani Weiss photography was her flexibility, friendliness, and how fast she was at getting us the finished product! She reviewed all the photos with us after we were done, which was very nice. We ended up in Seattle's The Knot wedding magazine with one of her photos from the wedding, which was pretty nice!

I love looking at the photo Dani took with the bride and groom and their great dane! It was a amazing experience: the ceremony at the Olympic Sculpture Garden, the reception at "Crush." Dani captured it all. She has worked with both Kent and I for years and we feature her work on our blog: http://aheavenlyceremony.blogspot.com/search?q=dani. Check it out and see for yourself!!!
Dani does some great and unique work. Very professional on all fronts and fun to work with besides.
Have shared many wedding experiences with her clients and ours in our vintage fleet.

About Dani Weiss Photography
Over the course of 24 years as a professional photographer, the challenge has lured me far and wide. Travel and journalistic assignments have honed my photographer's eye and my ability to see and to act when I am close to human emotion. Political protests, drag-queen performances, raucous concerts, and multi-cultural events have brought me closer to raw subject matter. I bring these rich experiences to traditional wedding and portrait photography as I push limits and use instinctive shooting methods to capture events and people.
Photographers see in ways that can create the art that finally tells the story. Continuing education in stylistic and technical issues is as important as innate ability. I seek to be an active part of the photographic community. Volunteering is also part of my commitment to my craft.
I own and use digital Canon EOS systems (4 bodies and flashes, lenses from 17mm - 300mm) and White Lightning Lighting.
FAQ for Dani Weiss Photography
I have been shooting weddings for 20 years and love what I do. My love for photography began as a child. I love photographing people and moments that go unnoticed.
2. What would you like couples to know about the job of photographing their big day? what would you like them to know about photography in general---before they even make that first phone call to you?
Photographing their wedding is a organizational undertaking. The most important thing for the couple to know is that I take a lot of pride in what I do. They are hiring me to give them my experience to make sure the day goes smoothly. I treat others how I want to be treated and they can expect that I will take care of both of them as well as their families. I ask a lot of questions to get to know the couple and make sure that the fit is good. The actual day of the wedding should go flawlessly as we have prepared a great photo shot list, a schedule of the day and have planned everything out so there will be no surprises. The most important thing the couple has to do on their wedding is to look fabulous and have fun!
3. What question do couples never ask that you wish they would?
I am really uncomfortable being photographed and the center of attention, how can work on this?
4. What kinds of bad experiences have you had that have informed your practice and made you a better photographer? What kinds of nightmare situations can couples avoid?
The worst experiences have come from people not being prepared. Couples can be stressed due to family issues one of which is having divorced parents. The easiest way to avoid any situations is to be clear with the photographer about any issues with the family and it is my job to make sure that there are no uncomfortable mishaps.
5. What should couples know about the expense of wedding photography?
Wedding photography is the most important expense that a couple should incur for their wedding. Once it is all over and done with all you have are the memories and the photographs. What is the first thing people grab in a tragedy, be it fire, flooding, etc. People get their family and pets out and then they grab their photos. Hiring a skilled photographer can not only make the day go smoothly it captures moments of a lifetime.
People are now under the assumption that digital has made our lives easier. I feel that it has actually done the reverse. The industry is now saturated with amateurs with expensive cameras who don’t have the same experience level or an artistically trained eye. These are people with full time jobs who enjoy photographing as their hobby and to make a little bit of extra money. Most people don’t realize that once the wedding is photographed digitally, the average photographer spends the rest of the week in front of the computer editing their images. The photo labs used to be the ones who did all of the post processing. It is now up to the photographer to become both technician and lab.
What goes on behind the scenes that contribute to the costs you incur and the hours you spend making their memories just right?
Advertising, computer maintenance, marketing, phone calls, meeting time, uploading images, camera maintenance are just a few of the behind the scenes things that go on to make the complete package just right for the couple.
6. What can couples do in advance of meeting with you?
In advance of meeting with me, I ask the couple to review my website and write a list of questions they may have for me when we meet. I also send them to view complete online weddings that are posted for my clients once the wedding photographs are ready. These are password protected sites that are available to the family and friends of the couple. I have clients view these photographs so they are able to see how I photograph a complete wedding. Not just the specific images posted on my website.
7. What can couples, and their attendants and families, do on the day of
to make your job easier-and the pictures more perfect?
I like to get photo shot lists from my clients so I can be sure I know what to expect from them. Most importantly they should have fun and let me handle everything. I also have the clients introduce me on to the important people on their photo shot list.
8. Wow long after the wedding can couples expect to see their first sets of images? Waiting is always the hardest part!
My normal turnaround is about 6-8 weeks during the busy summer months. I often can turn weddings around much more quickly when I shoot film.
9. What trends do you see in your industry? How is technology making it
easier to do what you do?
The biggest trend I see right now is the “trash the dress” photos. I personally had been doing this with clients who want to push the boundaries for years. I am always trying new things to make the photos more interesting.
Digitally cameras are continually improving every year and they allow you to see the images more quickly.
10. In what ways can couples and photographers take an earth-friendly
approach to their wedding day photos? The most earth-friendly way is for couples to choose digital photography. They then can pick the images that they desire and not get prints of everything photographed.
11. What can couples do to determine whether or not they "fit" well, in terms of personality type, aesthetics, and point-of-view with their photographer and other vendors?
I feel it is important for couples to use their gut reaction for hiring a photographer and any other vendor. This is an important lesson for hiring anyone. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Keep in mind that you are hiring a professional. Does the vendor return your call in a timely manner? Does the vendor seem excited about what they do? Do you feel good about sharing your day with this person? Do you think they will be fun to work with? These are all important things to factor in on your decision.
Do you consider it important to have a personal connection with the couples you work with?
Absolutely! I find the personal connection incredibly important with the couples I work with. If they are comfortable with me then it will be reflected in their photographs.
Another way I get to know my couples is by photographing their engagement portrait. We can then have an opportunity to work together as well as spend time getting to know one another.
12. What would you say to folks who are considering having a friend or
family member handle the shutterbuggery?
I do not advise people to have family or friends have the sole responsibility of photographing their wedding. One of the reason’s people hire a professional is that we have the expertise to photograph the entire event and tell the story of the day. In most cases, family and friends don’t have the experience of what to photograph on the day of the wedding. They also want to be a guest too! There are often tricky lighting situations, fleeting moments as well as funny things that happen that a trained professional will know how to handle quickly as well as notice what is going on. Often family members and friends are distracted by the people they know at the event and their sole purpose begins to appear to be more of a guest. Also, the amount of stamina to photograph an 8 hour wedding is pretty unbelievable. Most friends and family begin with good motives but they tend to get the more cookie cutter images and not all the quirky moments going on in the periphery.
13. There's a movement away from formal portraits, but I know so many couples who regret not having a really perfect shot of themselves from the day. how do you balance the desire for that documentary look with the need to have those classic moments on "film"?
I know how important it is for people to have fun at their wedding and having to pose for the typical portraits can be no fun. Picking a fun location as well as trying new poses and pushing the boundaries of the typical poses can make for a more positive experience. I do all of the “formal” portraits before the wedding begins, that way, once the ceremony begins, the couple doesn’t have to worry about posing. Keeping your portrait shot list simple can make it a much faster portrait session. I spend the rest of the event documenting and telling the story of the day with images. That way, the couple can have both looks.
