Reviews for David's Bridal (Colma, CA)
I wonder if service has improved there lately, because my experience there was great. In fact, I had horrible service at other bridal boutiques (unattentive staff yet sales pressure) and was feeling discouraged until I went to David's Bridal. I had the friendliest lady, Angela, help me. She gave me a catalogue to pick out dresses I liked and brought them all to me to try. She was patient, gave helpful feedback, was enthusiastic and made me feel like a bride. I ended up loving 2 or 3 dresses there whereas I had found not a single one I liked at 3 other stores I visited previously. Angela even allowed me to try on my two favorite dresses a couple times when I had difficulty making a final decison. To top it off, the materials/fabric were better quality than I expected from David's Bridal while the price was just right. At first glance, David's doesn't have the chic, luxurious feel of the independent boutiques, but once I met the staff, it felt golden, especially compared the other places I went.
The alterations department was a different story. I initially gave them a positive review when I got my dress back, but after I wore it at the wedding, I realized how poorly done the alterations were. The workmanship was pretty poor. I had a simple hemline but the sewing looked like it was done by a 3rd grader, and the dress was still a little long. I was a little worried about that at my fitting but they assured me it was because I was bending over to look down, and it was the right length if I walked straight. However, I tore the netting (thank goodness it was just a layer underneath) at the beginning of my wedding day walking to the car, NOT looking down! Then, the bustles were a joke. They were not done nearly well enough to hold up the weight of the train, and a couple of them tore through the layers of the dress by the end of the day! I don't think it was really noticeable (at least I didn't notice and it doesn't show in the pictures) but it was annoying to find my dress damaged afterwards.
So if this were just for the alterations department, I would give them a 1, and I would not recommend them at all. But the sales service was so excellent that I would send other people there, so they still get 4 stars for that.
Note: my experience with them was ONLY regarding pressing. They required several weeks of lead time to just press, which in my opinion is ridiculous, especially considering that the place I ended up taking it to took less than a week for both my dress and the flower girl.
The service was horrible. Both times I was there, I practically dressed myself and my 5 bridesmaid. I spent most of my time looking for the consultant. At the end I got fed up and looked through the racks myself looking for dresses. The only reason why there is one star is because the dresses are nice and the prices are reasonable. Also, I would not recommend scheduling an appointment on the weekend, since those are the days most brides have time for a fitting.
