The catering service was about what we expected. The food was delicious, however, they were not very flexible. Had we chosen our wedding on a more convenient date (for them), I believe that they would have been a 5/5.
Vendor response to review
Leslie, My name is Kate Hays, and I'm the owner of Dish Catering. I'm a bit confused by your review, and I didn't cater a wedding in June of this year that matches your criteria, nor am I familiar with the tent company you listed--I've never worked with them. Are you sure you have the correct caterer? I pride myself on being very flexible. I think there may be some confusion here.....

A tall order for any caterer. Luckily, our wedding planner, Carrie of Storied Events, found the incomparable Kate of Dish Catering. Kate understood our requests perfectly. She worked with local vendors, found humanely-raised meat, helped us pick all seasonal produce, and prepared an absolutely stunning and delicious wedding feast.

My husband and I are passionate about food--both how it tastes and how it is sourced. We are tough customers, and if fact one caterer "fired us" because he didn't think it was possible to deliver what we asked for. We wanted the food at our wedding to be both delicious and socially responsible. A tall order for any caterer. Luckily, our wedding planner, Carrie of Storied Events, found the incomparable Kate of Dish Catering. Kate understood our requests perfectly. She worked with local vendors, found humanely-raised meat, helped us pick all seasonal produce, and prepared an absolutely stunning and delicious wedding feast!!! Our guests praised the food, saying it was the best they had ever had at a wedding. The times we spent with Kate during our planning (and our amazing tasting) remain highlights of our wedding planning process and we are delighted that she was our caterer. We highly, highly recommend Dish Catering.
Great food, great service, great people!
Whenever I've worked with Dish, I am amazed at their professionalism and timeliness. Of course the food is to die for. Any bride or groom, who desires incredible service, should hire Dish.
Spectacular! I cannot offer a better recommendation. At Storied Events we hold ourselves to the highest standards possible and Dish follows suit in every aspect. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Dish was a part of an integral team that created a magical evening for a client requesting a "green" wedding in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The wedding couple is still overwhelmed with happiness. My gratitude is extended and we will continue to recommend Dish Catering.
About Dish
That is the commitment that makes Dish stand apart from other caterers. When I meet with clients I have a few bits of advice—Begin by thinking about what you love to eat. Think about foods or food related experiences that have special significance for you both. Your wedding is an opportunity to share something intimate with your guests, and we'll work together to design the perfect menu and create a stellar event—with a sense of you as a couple, the place, and the season. And with our extensive experience in planning weddings, we help soothe some of the tensions and anxieties, so that you can concentrate on more important things, like life long commitment.
FAQ for Dish
• Daytime and cocktail receptions can be more affordable than serving a full meal to guests. Generally the duration of the event is shorter, which can work well if there is traveling to be done after the event.
• Be realistic about your location and the limitations it might impact on your menu. Doing a plated dinner for 250 is easier in a location with a kitchen or formal staging area than in a tent outdoors, as we have to pull in additional kitchen equipment to make it flawless.
• Never skimp on service. If we don’t look good, you don’t look good.
Passed appetizers during the cocktail portion of the reception can be more cost effective than stationary tables. You can control more expensive ingredients, and can add flavorful, ethnic touches that might not be right for everyone’s palate. Stationary appetizers need to look abundant throughout their usage, and sometimes will require plates and silverware which can run up your rental bill.
• Plated events are very elegant, but can run up the amount of service people you need. Consider the location of your event and the overall feel you want to obtain.
• Buffets, although less formal then plated events give people the opportunity to mingle more. They can work well with Vermont’s beautiful locations when guests might want time to enjoy the view and move about. Some people are also nervous about getting stuck in long buffet lines. Dish eliminates this worry by setting up our buffets so that we effectively break the guests down into smaller groups, therefore getting everybody through the line in a timely manner.
• Other trends in catering include a mix of the two styles, with just a first course served to guests before they then help themselves to the buffet. This adds a touch of elegance and gives a natural place to greet guests with a toast as everybody is first seated. Gaining popularity is family style service, where platters and bowls of different foods are placed on each guest table.
• With almost 20 years of catering experience we can also troubleshoot the real Vermont issues. Be they wind, weather, sun or bugs, Dish will always be prepared with double sided tape, a rain plan, parasols and spray.
