Justin was the the perfect DJ for our wedding. He worked with us prior to the wedding in coordinating music that we wanted to play, and not just stuff he wanted to play. He was responsive to my emails and made us feel comfortable. He did all of our ceremony music and was a great emcee. He was able to read our crowd so well that he had our guests dancing the entire evening. He even staged our last dance of the evening and it was definitely one of our favorite moments from that night. He's a true professional and really knows his stuff. We would highly highly recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding DJ.

Originally, I was planning on going extra-low-budget on the DJ and just having my reception music pre-planned and playing off an iPod, but I'm really glad we decided to hire a DJ instead. I went in thinking I knew what I wanted for everything, but Justin brought in a lot of expertise which I had never really considered. I thought picking music was a no brainer, but apparently, there's some strategy to it. So I was really glad to have Justin there to give suggestions. He wasn't at all pushy with his ideas, though, I still felt like everything was in my hands, and he really worked with us on everything we needed.

What music genres are in your collection?

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes

Describe your DJ style:

Adaptive. I adapt to all situations, big crowds and small. I pride myself on being able to read a crowd a react appropriately.

Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?

There is no limit on how much can be requested, but there is a limit on how much can be played. Obviously there would not be time to play an hours worth of requests if there were only 45 minutes left in the party. But also, working in requests to match the flow and the energy of the party is an exact science. Therefore it may be difficult to work in all requests.

What is your usual attire?

Dress slacks and a nice shirt. I will look like a performer and not part of the catering staff or one of your guests. It is important that I establish this presence.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?

Not unless I absolutely cannot locate it.

How many other DJs do you work with?

Just me.

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?

I do not have a minimum, but it would seem silly to DJ for less than an hour.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?

Absolutely! In person, iChat, Skype, Google Voice and Video ... what's your flavor?

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?

I am Japanese American, so I am familiar with those traditions. I have also performed at many Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Jewish weddings.

Can the client submit a do-not-play list?

Sure, but it's important to not make this list too long. Certainly there are songs they may "hate," but this party is for everybody and not just the client. We're trying to please a lot of palettes.

Do you bring your own equipment?

Yes ... Denon professional DJ audio gear and the Bose L1 speaker system.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?

I have a American DJ megapixel LED bar to light the dance floor. Uplighting and other special lighting is available at an additional cost.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?

I usually arrive two hours before start time and a table is not required.

Do you have any extra space requirements?

I usually ask for an 8'x8' area for myself and 4'x4' area for the speakers.

Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?

No, that is tacky!

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?

Of course that is what I am being paid to do. But I'm not yakking all night long.

How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?

I like to let the music speak for itself. If no one is dancing then it's probably because I need to change up the tempo or genre.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

I do not take breaks, but providing meal while other guests are dining is always appreciated.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?

I do play music when I am having my quick dinner!

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

I belong to a good network of DJs that I can call on. However, this has onl happened once, and it was when my wife went into labor.

Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?

No.

What is your overtime rate?

This is negotiable. Typically $150/hour.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?

This is negotiable for travel outside of San Diego County.

What is the required deposit to secure your services?

Typically 20% of the quote.
