Dorothy photographed my friend's wedding so we had already seen her incredible work. She ABSOLUTELY did not disappoint. Our wedding day was amazing and Dorothy seemlessly captured all of the details. We were moved to tears by how Dorothy highlighted the emotion of our "perfect" day. Her style allowed us to be in the moment and almost forget we were being photographed. She translated our very special day into the most beautiful language and helped create the most incredible memories.

Dorothy is really quite an extraordinary person. She is an outstanding photographer and I have no doubts that she has the best quality and pricing around. Not only is she excellent at what she does, her personality is warm and unforgettable. After hiring Dorothy to photograph our wedding, my wife and I have amazing pictures to remember our special day as well as a new dear friend. I only wish I had more for her to photograph! Dorothy was wonderful to work with. Our wedding was in Chicago and we live in California. Dorothy was available in all ways we needed her to be, both in preparing for the event and 5 years after, to purchase an album and individual photos.

Dance of Life Photography, is a one-woman studio with many years of experience in creating images from the spontaneous moments of beauty and emotion throughout your wedding day.

I come as the photographer to your weddings--no "associates"--and make all coffeetable books, albums or image boxes myself in bespoke style. I also create artistic photo cards and thank you notes that are as beautiful to the touch as they are to the eye.

My wedding service information is available by request through my website. I offer digital through full coverage packages, and they all can be customized to fit your needs. Wedding packages have the choice of film or digital coverage and offer a select number of creative options to make something perfect for you!

What primary photographic style do you identify with?

What do your packages include?

Do you have liability insurance?

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?

I love the beautiful feel of natural light and daylight, and try to shoot in that fashion as long as I can in the day. But I bring additional light for occasions that call for it.

Is your media preference film or digital?

I bring the same dedication and creativity to people who request film or digital photography for their wedding and portraits.

How many photographers do you work with?

I am a solo artist and 95% of the work I do is as a single photographer, but for a longer and more complex wedding, I call on experienced assistants and second photographers whose style is complimentary.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?

Yes. I guarantee I will be the photographer at the actual event--if you book Dance of Life Photography, you will get the artistic work of Dorothy Perry.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?

For a portrait or engagement session, there may be more than one a day. But I only shoot one wedding in a weekend.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

Yes. I would do my best to find the best replacement I could.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?

I work in a candid, fluid daylight style so I do not usually bring lots of equipment. I bring cameras, flashes, lenses, a laptop, and a portable storage device to hold large digital files. At times I also bring a photo printer.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?

I always bring backup camera bodies if my main camera malfunctions. I have pro-level equipment, which is built for higher levels of functionality and performance.

Do you charge hourly or full day?

I try to create a custom package that encompasses the time and talent and the type of album or media requested. Each need is different, so each one is different.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?

I am available to shoot extra hours, and the cost for hours of extra time is itemized in the contract.

Do you charge for travel?

Yes. Over a 40 mile distance from Chicago, I would have a charge per mile or the cost of a round trip ticket. In a longer length event, there might also be overnight accommodation in an area hotel.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?

The initial proofs are offered in a proof catalog, with identifying file numbers below each print.

How long can the client keep the proofs?

The proof catalog is theirs to keep.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?

Yes.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?

Yes.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?

Yes, I offer copies and files.

Will images be available for viewing online?

The images are usually posted for 90 days on a private website accessed by password. The length of time can be extended for a small cost.

What kind of albums do you offer?

My studio offers three levels of handmade albums, and a image box. (photographs of them are available on my website). In keeping with an artistic style, they are also handmade works of art. The albums and case are made a local bookbinder with heavy paper and silk, and I mount the photographs myself. They are beautiful and made to last.

When will the client get the final album?

Final albums are delivered around two months after the design is approved by the bride and groom or other client: however, if there is a special request to have it ready for a special occasion, I try my best to meet that deadline.

Additional Advice

Plan time to be together for a few minutes ALONE on your wedding day immediately after your ceremony. Have a private room set aside for time to sit, have a glass of champagne, a little food--and a way to re-ground yourself after such a emotional event. Hug, talk, cry, and let it all sink in. Then, holding hands, you two can re-emerge to face the rest of the day. Creating and valuing a private moment to be together in the midst of such an intimate, emotional day will be time well spent in creating a stronger psychic bond as a married couple.
