The DoubleTree by Hilton did an AMAZING job with our wedding reception. The hall was absolutely beautiful, the food was delicious, the service at the reception was outstanding, and the event planning went as smoothly as possible. The staff went above and beyond our expectations to make our day special, and all of our guests were impressed.

I was immediately attracted to the package Double Tree offered as a reception venue for my wedding reception. They took care of so much for me and they executed everything I wanted perfectly. I planned my wedding from across the country so I had to put a lot of trust in this venue. They were extremely flexible in altering the reception package to fit my budget and adding in specific details to make our reception unique to my husband and I. They allowed us to use any of their centerpiece arrangements/pieces so we hardly had to buy anything to decorate! At the food tasting my husband and I were VERY impressed with the selection we got to chose from and the quality of taste that was presented... and the best part was on the big day the food had the same quality! Danielle was our coordinator and she was fantastic to work with!

The food was VERY good, and we had a ton of people asking what resturant it came from. (It's was all done by the Double Tree) BUT we ran out of beef and they had to start making chicken without BBQ sauce to try and make-up for the lack of food. This was after telling them (the Double Tree staff) at every meeting before our event that we didn't want to run out of food, and they told us they've NEVER run out of food.
Overall it was a great place to hold our event.
Vendor response to review
Thank you so much for your review! On behalf of the DoubleTree I wanted to also thank you for choosing to host your reception with us. You and Josh were such a pleasure to work with! I want to apologize as well for running out of the beef course for the last table. We are not accustomed to guests visiting the buffet line for seconds before all tables have been dismissed, and were therefore not prepared for the extra food required. As was offered, we happily would have prepared a special plate for anyone that was unable to try the beef. All of your family and friends were such a joy to get to know! We wish you both the absolute best in this next chapter of your lives!

Danielle and the staff at Double Tree were absolutely AMAZING!!! They could not have made my day any more perfect. I live in Florida but was having my wedding in Holland at the Double Tree and Danielle was great to work with me living so far away. She was flexible and easy to work with. Even the hotel staff was fabulous to my guest staying the night at the hotel. I really enjoyed working and planning with Danielle. She is very energetic and full of great ideas. Danielle and her staff especially Lee, made my day PERFECT!! My guests and family were very pleased and did not have one negative thing to say. The room was beautiful and the food was AMAZING!!! We also had our rehearsal dinner there and that was fanatic as well. The price is great and the service is amazing!!!
Thank you Danielle, Lee and staff for making my special day perfect!!!!

We could not of asked for anything more from Double Tree!!! The entire staff was the best. We had a block of 40 rooms and not one of our guest could come up with anything negative.

Danielle was Excellent!!! Our wedding was extra special. Even with our changing circumstances, Danielle was gracious about making adjustments and it made for a beautiful wedding reception. The food was also excellent. We highly recommend Double Tree to anyone who wishes to create fond memories by partnering with them.

The staff at the DoubleTree was more helpful then I could have ever imagined! Danielle was great and was always available whenever I had questions or needed to meet.
Lee was fantastic as well with the food and just making sure the whole reception went smooth.
On our wedding day ALL the staff made sure that we always had drinks and went above and beyond during the reception to make sure we were all satisfied at all times!

Everyone at the hotel was so helpful and friendly. Their willingness to improvise and the help they gave us in setting everything up made the wedding so much less stressful for us. I would definitely recommend them to others.

Amazing!
Margaret was so awesome! She was so helpful and made the whole day/week leading up to the wedding so easy and stressfree. I was able to bring things for the ceremony and reception the week of the wedding so then we won't have to try to remember everything the day before. Margaret even had the reception room partially set up the night of the rehearsal dinner so I could see it and decide on any changes (there weren't).
The food was really good and received many compliments during the reception and afterwards.
My husband and I received the junior suite the night of the reception from Doubletree with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne!
Would recommend to anyone and everyone! Everything was organized and the wait staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, absolutely loved...

My Husband and I are very disappointed in the way the staff at the Doubletree Hotel in Holland, MI treated our family and friends, and the way that our reception was handled.
When we first met with the coordinator back in January, we had come up with a package that suited our needs for the reception. The package included unlimited soft drinks and coffee, and we had a buffet style dinner. The food was the best part of the evening. However, the way the staff treated our guests and handled everything was totally unacceptable and that is a big part of what ended up ruining our night.
First of all, our reception started at 6pm, and was over with by 8pm. Call me crazy but I didn't know you could have a complete dinner service including cake cutting and 3 special dances in 2 hours. To me, this was just terrible. The servers were coming around to all the tables, and picking up plates without even asking our guests if they were finished. Our salads were served first and within ten minutes of them being served, the servers were taking them off of the tables, even though our guests were not finished. The staff was completely unaware of the fact that our package included unlimited soft drinks and coffee, so everybody had either champagne or water with their dinner. Only after the reception was over were we told that it was our guests responsibility to go to the bar and get their soft drinks and coffee. However, there was never any announcement made that the guests had to get their beverages themselves. I thought that is why we paid 34.95 per person, so they would be served.
Our cake costed a lot of money, and nobody ever got any because it was served at 8pm when everyone had left. Our reception was so rushed that our parents missed our first dance, the cake cutting, and almost missed the dances they were supposed to have with my husband and myself. Not to mention that since everything was so rushed, we never got to have our garter toss or our bouquet toss. Out of 60 people that attended our reception, only 12 remained at 8pm. Our reception was scheduled from 6pm to midnight. We paid $600 for a dj that only stayed until 8pm, because, well, there was nobody left at the reception to entertain.
I ended up crying my eyes out at my reception, and my husband and family, were trying to console me, but nothing they could say would make it any better.
We worked very hard to make this an unforgettable night and the staff at the Doubletree definitely made it unforgettable...in a bad way!
I couldn't believe my ears when the coordinator said that it was the dj's responsibility to work out the timeline of events. Did I miss something? The dj was hired to play music, not serve food to our guests. It was not his job to tell everyone where they could get drinks, or what time and how long the guests should be eating. Even if it was his job to do that, shouldn't the staff have told him that in the first place so he could let everyone know? In my opinion, the coordinator at the Doubletree was just looking to put the blame on someone else, instead of taking responsibility for the actions of her staff.
Everytime a guest stepped out of the room, whether to go outside for a 5 minute smoke break or to the restroom, their food and beverages were cleared from the table when they were not even finished. Are people not allowed to even use the bathroom without there food being taken away? The staff should not have assumed that people were finished. They should have asked them if they were finished, instead they saw someone get up and thought that was there que to clear the table. Just because someone uses the bathroom or gets up from their table for a moment does not mean they are finished with their meal or drink. My mother took one bite of her cake, got up to use the restroom, came back and the entire table was cleared. She was not done!
I believe that because our party was somewhat smaller then the other wedding party that was hosting their reception in the Grand Ballroom, we were slighted of good service, simply because we had fewer people. In my opinion, we were second fiddle, even though we shelled out a hell of a lot of money for this "2 hour" reception. It was completely ridiculous, and ruined what was supposed to be the most happiest night of mine and my husband's new life together. The service was "too good". But nothing went off the way it was supposed to when it came to the reception. It was a complete disappointment, and the only thing that was said in response to our complaint is that it was the dj's fault, and that the staff was new. The fact that the staff was "new" was not our problem. If they weren't properly trained for the job, then they shouldn't have been doing it. In my opinion, nobody should have to fork over the entire bill before the reception, and then get crappy service after it's already been paid for. We were contracted to have that room until midnight. You would think that maybe, just maybe, an offer would have been made to maybe give us a complimentary night, or maybe a discount for the trouble we had to go through. But, that was not the case. All we got was "well, I am sorry you feel that way, but our staff always receives compliments, and we always deliver 100%". Well, guess what? You didn't deliver 100% this time...not even close. It was a complete disappointment and I advise anyone who is considering having their reception at the Doubletree Hotel in Holland, MI, to go elsewhere! We were very dissatisfied! Poor service and rude servers! Very UNPROFESSIONAL!

Words cannot even describe how great this venue is. From our initial meeting, to us checking out of our hotel room the morning after our wedding everything was picture perfect. We booked our venue for our wedding in December of 2010 and got married in May of 2011 so we had a very short time to plan the wedding of our dreams. We worked with Lisa Wedding and Margaret Tamminga throughout the entire process and didn't have a single complaint. The communication was great, the room was decorated beautifully, and the food was mouthwatering. I know that all of our guests were impressed and our wedding will be talked about for years to come thanks to the Doubletree!

Doubletree Hotel handled everything for me! It was simple and there were no hidden costs whatsoever. The per head amount made budgeting easy and they even offered a kids meal for children under 12 for a significantly discounted rate.

Wow, did I ever have a roller coaster ride of an experience with Doubletree Hotel.
I booked the hotel a year in advance. Since my husband and I were first living on the other side of the state, then halfway across the country during the planning process, I wanted to get big vendors, like the location, settled while I still had a chance to visit the location personally.
While my husband and I visited for the first time, the wedding coordinator (a different woman than is there now) spoke only to me, completely ignoring my husband (then fiance, of course). That really should have been our first warning sign that we weren't going to have a wholly positive experience. But the price was right, and we loved the ambiance, so we went for it.
Contact with the original coordinator was sporadic at best. I constantly had to e-mail and call her in order to get responses to simple questions (like, did you receive the signed contract? The deposit?). I understand that a year out from my wedding, and before the busy summer wedding season, I wasn't going to be top priority. But waiting more than a week to responses to simple questions felt unnecessary.
At the end of the summer, six months before the wedding, I visited Holland and met with the people at the hotel one last time. Everything was in order, and in person everyone was much more responsive than via e-mail/telephone. The coordinator told me she would e-mail me in November to set more details, like when we could have our tasting.
November came and went without hearing a peep. At the beginning of December I e-mailed the coordinator to find out what was going on, and received a response from a completely different person, not even addressing most of my questions from the original e-mail! When I e-mailed her back, reiterating my questions, she elaborated that the woman I had been working with originally had left in October. She gave me the phone number of the current contact, Margaret Tamminga, but before I could contact Margaret I received a phone call from the assistant general manager of the hotel! This was turning into quite a mess. I was on my way to work when the assistant GM called so I couldn't talk then, but after work that evening, in response to an e-mail questionaire he had sent me, I let him know under no uncertain circumstances that I was getting increasingly disappointed and frustrated with the haphazard communication skills of the hotel and his employees. He was very apologetic and accomodating from there on out.
When I finally got in touch with her, Margaret seemed much better organized than her predecessor and seemed very "with it." It probably didn't hurt that she knew my mother from years and years back, so there was a bit of a personal connection there. However, I was still disappointed in a few things. First of all, a few of the things I'd been told under her predecessor weren't true (such as having a private tasting, where we would also do things like a table mock up). Additionally, a week before the wedding she e-mailed me to say there was a mistake on my contract where they hadn't factored in the gratuity properly, so I was going to owe more than initially agreed to! I was absolutely livid. We were able to come to a compromise (we ended up with fewer than 100 guests, so they allowed us to only pay for the number we were expecting rather than the minimum 100 usually required) that offset the price difference, but it was absolutely unforgivable to me that such a major mistake happened and I was expected to pay for it A WEEK before the wedding.
The wedding itself, however, went fabulously. Margaret's staff did all of the decorating for us so my family didn't have to run around trying to do it all the day of. Dinner ran smoothly and the drinks ran freely. With all of the hassle and drama I had to endure leading up to the big day, it was a pleasant surprise that it actually went smoothly.
I have had the opportunity to DJ many receptions at the Double Tree by Hilton in Holland Michigan over the past few years, and I must say I feel quite relieved when potential customers tell me that is where they are having the reception. They are very easy to work with and are very accomdating as well as providing beautiful spaces to have your reception. The staff is always friendly and I must say I do not have a bad thing to say about this venue.
You certainly cannot go wrong when choosing to host your event at the DoubleTree in Holland. Their staff is dedicated in giving you the best experience! Danielle Malburg is friendly, highly accommodating , very organized and goes above & beyond to ensure your event is special!
