What can I say about Duane & 74 Events other than they totally rocked it! Duane and Gary were super - they had every song I could have wanted, were professional, detailed in everything they did, and best of all, Duane new exactly how to get the party started, and keep it going. He was also a great DJ - he didn't ruin the music by talking too much, he didn't play things we asked him not to, and he mixed in things that really complimented our own selection. I can't remember the last time I had that much fun dancing at a wedding, and Duane did an amazing job of catering to a really wide group of people - we had everyone on the dance floor, young and old, and it was even a multi-cultural affair.
Duane was amazing! He kept everyone dancing and read the crowd perfectly.
We were looking for someone who wasn't a "wedding DJ" per se and Duane was perfect. Even though he has a whole music life outside of DJ'ing (he curates music for stores, is the buyer for Other Music etc.) that doesn't mean that he wasn't super professional about our wedding. I am not someone who has any music taste and I always joke that we got a DJ who was way cooler than me*, but I definitely cared about our wedding being cool. (I have been to many weddings and though I enjoy all of them, there definitely is a huge range of dancing experiences between a great DJ and a not-great DJ). My husband gave Duane a list of the kind of music we (read:he) liked and Duane totally drew from it while still playing crowd-pleasing favorites. I think our guest list was a cross between New York City B-list hipsters (hip, but not super hip, and kind of aging 30-somethings) and Midwesterners and everyone loved Duane. Even our caterer commented on how great he was. Some great moments included him playing the Kinks' "Picture Book" while we were taking photos. How cute is that?! Oh, and he spun vinyl--sure sign of cred for the indie crowd.
*I guess what I am trying to say is that I can definitely tell a bad DJ from a good one, even though I am not an indie-rock snob and that Duane added a level of music cred to my wedding that I, for one, would not have been able to pull off. (Of course, my husband, who does have good music taste, was thrilled with Duane and danced a lot!)
