Durham Central Park is where the Durham Farmer's Market is held. Durham Central Park Inc rents out the space. It includes the large L-shaped pavilion area (with restrooms) and the Great Lawn, which is across Foster St. It has a beautiful bridge on the corner of Foster and Hunt, which is fabulous for photos and the wrought iron pavilion under the Durham Central Park mural is a really great focal point for the ceremony. I loved using this venue because the farmers market pavilions provided a great rain plan (imagine a bunch of luminarias under there!), restrooms were on site, and everything was so pretty. We hired two off-duty police officers to make sure all went smoothly. We had to get a special events permit from the city to amplify sound. But each light pole has electrical outlets and our fairly unsophisticated sound system rental managed to broadcast the ceremony perfectly, which is crazy considering outdoor ceremonies are so hard to hear. The contact for the venue is really great, but sometimes it takes a little while for her to get back to you. I think it's worth have a little patience for a great, central outdoor venue that isn't expensive and has such flexibility in terms of how you use the space.

We love going to the farmer's market, it's something nice that we can do together when we have the time. You can get lots of pre-cut organic flowers at the Farmer's Market, but there are also some vendors that you can order bouquets and centerpieces from. Harland Creek Farms was wonderful to work with because they usually create lots of custom bouquets and centerpieces from local organic flowers. They also use flowers and plants that are in season. I think this made my bouquet look really unique and special. It was a work of art, and I loved how my bouquet looked. Judy and the whole staff there was really great about the planning, too. They were able to give me an idea right away of what would be in season, and what I could expect my bouquet to look like. It was great working with them!
