Erich was a dream! I couldn't have asked for anything better. Erich took the time to sit down with us and really get to know what kind of wedding we wanted. He listed to our requests and fufilled our expectations. The best part was how professional he was. We had come across a qute a few that really just struck us as odd and when we met Erich we knew that our wedding was in good hands. Once the weding kicked off he took the rains and and made our wedding flow through all of the events smoothly and without us having to remind him that we were ready for the next thing. HE WAS WONDERFUL! Thank you Erich for making our day effortless and wonderful. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Erich was great! He was always available to answer any questions or schedule a meeting. He made it very clear he would only play music that we wanted. He also provided a projector and screen so that we could have a picture slide too. I highly recommend him!

Erich was absolutly great to work with. He played every song we wanted to hear and kept the dance floor packed alllll night. He really knows his stuff!!
I am recomending him to anyone I know getting married!!!!

Erich was wonderful and easy to work with. I would highly recommend. He made the night, and was very affordable, and worth every penny! He came to our home to "talk" music, and pulled it together beautifully!

i can't say enough great things about erich kruger!! when i called to get a quote from him, he had me laughing within the first 5 minutes. i could tell we had similar personalities and the same sense of humor. he assured me that there would not be any marcarena action at my wedding if i didn't want there to be! ha!

for the set up, he arrived early to get everything set up and even managed the a/v for the wedding ceremony. i had a bit of an untraditional set up for music. in addition to the DJ, i had a friend who was singing songs for us. erich set up the mic for my friend and even offered to find the backing tracks for him, previous to the big day.

what sets erich apart from other DJ's is his personality. he has a great voice, and can absolutely get people on the dance floor. before the wedding, i provided erich with some songs / dedications / events that i wanted to happen, and he made sure everything was taken care of. the groomsmen adored erich and by the end of the night, they were all hanging out near the DJ table, looking at his songlists, and just having a great time. i adored eric and would hire him again in a heartbeat! i recommend him to all my friends in Maine who need a DJ.

he was so wonderful and such a great guy, that we still keep in touch!! he is good people :)

Erich was an awesome DJ!! My husband and I would highly recommend him for sure! All of my guests really enjoyed themselves and still comment on what a great time they had and how wonderful our DJ was! Erich came recommended to us and I can't thank the person enough! The DJ and the photographer are the 2 things that I have noticed people aren't selective enough on...and it definitely shows if you skimp in either of these two areas. Go with Erich for the DJ and you'll be 'all set'.

I have worked in the wedding industry for many years and knew that when I got married, if we decided on a DJ, there would be no question we would use Erich. We booked him for the reception and he sat down with my husband and I, listened to all of our ideas and music choices and offered a couple of his own. At the last minute there was a change and I needed music for my wedding ceremony and Erich was there to help. I was very happy, and knowing that he was there made me feel secure that I had nothing to worry about as far as music went. I HIGHLY recommend Erich!

Erich was fantastic to work with from start to finish! I am a wedding photographer so I've seen many DJ's in action. For my own wedding I had a good idea of what I wanted and didn't want in a DJ. Erich was happy to accommodate all of our needs! I wanted no cheesy games, no tacky signs, and no group line dances! We also had a huge song request list. Erich downloaded extra songs if he didn't have them. He provided pink and orange lighting to match our wedding colors and he even let my husband announce Red Sox score updates (our wedding was in the middle of the world series). Erich was not only able to provide classy and professional service but he went above and beyond and kept our guests dancing all night long. Take if from a newlywed AND wedding photographer who's seen a LOT of DJ's - Erich is the best.

Describe your DJ style:

Professional, Classy, but fun too! I've worked a lot of events since 1989, most of these years as full time. I will perform it as you wish -that's your choice.

What is your usual attire?

A Tuxedo. But I will gladly wear what is asked of me if there is a theme. I was asked to dress as a Court Jester for a Medival wedding this past Summer. I rented a beautiful costume and even wore the make up!

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?

No, It?s a DJ?s job to supply the music ?kind of goes with the title. Don?t hire anyone who requires you to supply the music. If there is something that is unavailable, and you own it, I would of course welcome the help. I own all my music. Since I digitized my CD library, I started buying music from Apple?s i-Tunes, but I still like to hit the record store now & then. Most everything is available.

How many other DJs do you work with?

Just myself most of the time (unless I need a roady due to an injury). Believe me, One DJ is a good thing. I recently lost a job to someone who told a Bride that he would bring assistants. That may be a plus for the DJ, but not for the wedding. It does not look good to have DJs-in-training hanging out at a wedding. If a job requires 2 sound systems I show up early enough to provide that. My sound is not something I like to delegate. With myself, you have one person in charge of the music, announcements, sound, and timelines. I'm sure most event facilities prefer this approach as well.

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?

No minimum. I ask a fee based on the date and play up to five hours. Additional hours are available at an overtime rate we agree on.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?

Yes, and then again before the wedding date to go over music and announcements.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?

I have worked for many different ethninticities. I enjoy them as that?s how I add to my music library. I receive most of my knowledge form people planning the events but I enjoy studying up also. I?m most familiar with Jewish, Italian, and Spanish families. This past Summer I provided sound and music for a two hour Hindu ceremony and reception that followed. It was beautiful!

Do you bring your own equipment?

Yes. As a sound tech my sound gear is very important to me. My back up gear is just as good as my primary gear. Another big ?question to ask the DJ? is ?do you carry back up gear??. Yes I do and did so before others used it as a selling point. I?ve seen what others use for gear, and they better have back up gear.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?

Yes, when requested. I usually ask one fee and then set up what is required. No additional fees unless I need to rent special equipment (projectors & screens), and then I usually provide it for only my cost.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?

I like to have access to a location 90 minutes prior to start time. 2 hours & 15 minutes if two sound set ups are required. Most venues provide a table but I?m prepared to set up my own when needed. If the venue provides a table I prefer only one.

Do you have any extra space requirements?

No, I?m flexible and do what is required.

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?

Yes, and yes ?as needed. Not too much ?DJ chatter?.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

I love a good meal, but I prefer not to leave my station to eat. I will if required to or if I?m given a ?vendor meal?. Some venues have a policy of serving only vendor meals (which means a sandwich bag lunch). That?s fine, but it looks terrible to eat a sandwich or anything other than a guest meal in front of guests.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?

Yes.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

I'm friends with most Maine DJs. I'm friends with the DJs in the 2 DJ organizations, I'm friends with DJs who choose not to be in those organizations (most of whom have many years more experience than organization DJs, and I am co-founder of another company, BestMaineDjs. I come from the old-school musicians' slogan, "The show must go on at any cost". New Djs aren't familiar with that term and use their organization as a selling point. If I were to be in an accident or life threatening condition, your chances are extremely good that you would be covered. My contract protects you as well.

What is your overtime rate?

Between $75 and $125, it depends on the date.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?

I consider an 90 min. drive from Portland local (no additional fee) for prime time dates. I consider a 45 min. drive of Portland local for discounted dates. Travel exceeding 90 minutes of Portland on prime dates I ask $200/hour (round trip?pro rated). Travel past 45 min. of Portland on discounted dates is $100/hour. If the event is more than a two hour drive for me and ends after 11pm I may ask for a room. Call me. These are subject to change and/or negotiable.

Additional Advice

I will ask you for your own personal song list, songs I must play and, most important, songs I must not play. Worried that you'll hear the Macarena at your once-in-a-lifetime event? Just ask me not to. I will assist you to put together a truly terrific event! I will act as the Master of Ceremony to announce you and your Bridal Party. I will inform guests AND photographers of everything from the meal, to the cake cutting, to the filling of glasses for the toast. I will keep the dance floor hopping with your favorite dance music and create heart-tugging moments with the formal waltzes. I will NOT sing to you during your reception. I will NOT display a banner, or business cards.

*Most Important!* If you hire a DJ other than myself: Make sure you dont have the kind of DJ who will display an ugly banner. A DJ advertisement is not going to add anything to your day. There should be no business cards displayed by your DJ or any other vendors. A good DJ will be ASKED for his/her card! Most of the time you will get what you pay for but you do not have to hire on price alone. A low price usually indicates an open calendar. You may get a great DJ at a lower price if you hire last minute or if you hire on a weekday. Expect to pay from $800 to $1,200 on Saturdays from May through October for an excellent DJ. Interviewing DJs is OK but save yourself some time and get referrals! Get referrals from you event facility, your photographer, and your hairdresser and trust them. Then speak with your DJ. Do you get a good "feel" about him/her? Would you want to be friends with this person? Your event is much more than a business transaction. Tell the DJ how you want things. Good DJs can and will accommodate your requests.
