Face Value Salon & Barbershop

Since I don't live in the area where our wedding took place, I was very nervous to find someone to do my and my bridal party's hair and makeup. Great hair stylists can be hard to find but Lucinda, the owner of Face Value Salon, put all my fears and worries to rest. Lucinda is incredibly passionate about her art and is very talented when it comes to hair and makeup. I am so happy she brought all of her worldly knowledge from LA and NYC and Paris to the little town of Crozet, VA. Right off the bat, I was blown away by how attentive Lucinda was to making sure my every need and wish was met when it came to my hair and makeup for my wedding. She listens and interacts so well with her customers, that its as though she plucked the very thoughts from your mind and designs the exact image of what you want your hair to look like. Lucinda is confident with her abilities, but not too proud to hear your requests to change things around a little - if she doesn't read your mind before you tell her. Many stylists would have bruised egos if you suggested they do something different or more to your liking, Lucinda's response is "Oh yes, I see exactly what you mean, lets do it!" Lucinda is also super fun to work with, is very social, friendly, and entertaining. She treats every guest at her salon with the utmost importance. You feel like a queen while your there! She is not satisfied until everything looks perfect and you are 100% happy.
You can usually tell the quality of a place by the attitudes of the employees. Lucinda's employees are very happy, enthusiastic, positive people to be around. When I called to say I needed someone to do hair and makeup for 7 bridesmaids, a bride, mother of the groom, mother of the bride and 2 flower girls, they quickly called in extra stylists for the day of the wedding and accommodated the large wedding party that descended upon them. There was no sign of reluctance to host our large party, and we were all welcomed enthusiastically. I was impressed by how nurturing the work environment was at Face Value Salon. Salons are quite typically, cut throat, competitive and catty places to work. At Face Value everyone helps each other out, and Lucinda is probably one of the most nurturing, patient, supportive and positive bosses I've observed - she loves to educate all of her stylists and better their skills and in turn, her stylists take a lot of care and pride in what they do. All of my bridal party member commented on how relaxed and nice the environment is at Face Value Salon.
Will also deserves mad props for working with my Mom and my mother-in-law. They both had out-of-date hair styles (ssshhh... don't tell them I said so), and hair that was over treated and unhealthy. Will worked with my mom to turn her unhealthy, over-permed hair into healthy beautiful hair in a style that she loved. My mother-in-law got a really hip new hairstyle which made her look 10 years younger and accentuated her beauty. Both moms were loath to abandon their old hair-ways, so whatever Will said to change their minds and take a leap of faith, worked like a charm. I call him the mom charmer :)
If the folks at Face Value read this, I want to give a big THANKS for all of your amazing talent and work. You all made a ton of ladies beautiful and happy for my wedding day! Great service! I was thrilled with how my look came out, and I think all my bridesmaids were too!

Usually, when I get makeup done at a department store makeup counter, I feel like I have a mask on and don't look like myself at all. So when I was looking for a salon to do wedding hair/makeup, I wanted to make sure I found the right place. Enter Face Value Salon.

The women at Face Value are fantastic. They did hair and makeup for me, my mom, and my bridesmaids. Not only did everyone look gorgeous, but everyone looked like the best versions of themselves--not caked-on-makeup versions of themselves. My bridesmaids all wore their hair differently, and each style was lovely and elegant. Lucinda and her team made me feel very special and taken care of, and they really listened to what I wanted from my hair/makeup. I also got a manicure and pedicure there the day before the wedding, which was a very relaxing treat.

Face Value also recommended getting breakfast catered by the coffee shop nearby. We had a little table set up in the salon of bagels, fruit, coffee, etc. so no one went hungry. No passing out at the wedding! This helped the morning feel more relaxed.

Since the ceremony was at 2:30, we wanted to make sure we were out of the salon in plenty of time for pictures. Face Value didn't seem rushed at all in any of the treatments, but they still managed to get us out in plenty of time. We left feeling happy and pretty, not harried.

My mom is in the Charlottesville/Crozet area fairly often and said that if she needs her hair done while she's in town, she's definitely going to Face Value. High praise from a woman who really values a good hair stylist! Any local brides should definitely check out Face Value.

Lucinda Riley of Face Value did my wedding hair and make-up....and I was soo happy with how I looked. I felt sooo beautiful!! She was able to capture the red carpet glam but still natural look I was going for. She also suggested things I would never have thought of - such as eye lash extensions.

She is very warm, and it was great to be able to talk with her the morning of the wedding - it made me feel refreshed, excited, and ready to face the most important day of my life.

She also goes above and beyond the call of duty. The morning of my wedding, a member of her extended family had an rough accident, and she could have given me to another stylist/beautician (which would have been completely understandable but I also would have been freaking out inside since I had my trials only with her.) But she went above and beyond - she did my hair and make-up with tons of attention, and didn't rush out to the hospital until after!!

Lucinda Riley is my angel - she is amazing! Lucinda and Megan (her assistant and budding makeup professional) are by far my favorite of all of the vendors that I worked with (and I had the pleasure of working with some other amazing vendors in Charlottesville). My makeup and hair drew rave reviews, and Lucinda is a perfectionist in the best way possible (putting highlights in my hair three days before the wedding to be sure that my hair looked perfect). Literally, if I could attach a "normal" and "wedding day" photo, you would book her immediately.

The salon found room for family and bridesmaids that suddenly decided the week of the wedding that they wanted their hair done, and found room without hesitation.

The price is far below what they could charge, even for Charlottesville.

The only downside of Lucinda and Megan is that the location is in Crozet (about 15 min. from my ceremony site), but if you have enough people, I believe that Lucinda will still consider coming to your venue. I also believe that Megan (makeup) will still go on-site for doing makeup.

We were fortunate to have Face Value Studio come "do" the wedding party, mothers and bride on-site. They were a dream to work with. Lucinda, the owner is gracious, chatty and talented. She concentrated on making the bride look beautiful. She was generous with her time and worked till the bride was thrilled. Each of the ladies from Face Value was superb! They were so helpful and willing to spend time working with each of the women getting their hair done. Their were 8 girls with updos and 2 ladies with short hair. They worked with each person until they were happy with the results. Wedding day was in the 100's and the hair held up well. I would highly recommend them for your wedding day!

I had my bridal hair and makeup done with Face Value. The mothers and bridal party also had various services. I worked with Lucinda, who is definitely a character. She does good work, but she also talks a LOT about how good her work is. My biggest piece of advice would be to make sure that you 1) do the test - it took a while to get her to understand how I wanted my hair, and 2) leave a LOT of time since she is so chatty. To her credit, during the test, she was insistent that I not leave until I was completely happy. She also took photos to be sure to remember how I wanted it done. It may be a little on the pricey side, but it's not a day you want to skimp on! My bridal party was also happy with their services. The salon is quite nice, and they let you bring in lunch (there are a few little lunch places nearby).

Lucinda and her team did a beautiful job with my daughter and her bridesmaids, and they were a pleasure to work with. I would not hesitate to recommend Face Value!

I had my hair and makeup done by Lucinda for my wedding in October 2009, and my husband and I have been regular clients of Face Value since then.

For my wedding hair and makeup, Lucinda rescued me after I had 2 failed hair tests at another local salon. She was able to give me the style I wanted, which ended up requiring clip-in hair extensions (something I had never thought about before!)-- and it looked fabulous! I got so many compliments about my long hair at my wedding...Nobody guessed it wasn't my hair! :) For my makeup, Lucinda kept it very natural and elegant, and she used the makeup I asked her to use (that I brought), and I also purchased some from her own line that I really liked. All in all, it was a pleasure to work with someone who was SO concerned about me and what I wanted. I felt like I could tell her if I wasn't happy with something and I wouldn't offend her. It's really all about the client! Lucinda did my hair and makeup at our wedding venue, and she stayed past her scheduled time so she could touch up my hair and makeup during photographs; it was very sweet. Additionally, my bridal party had their hair done by the other stylists at FV, and they were pleased with their hair and the atmosphere in the salon.

Lucinda was amazing for my hair and makeup. I was coming in from out of town, and couldn't do a test. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, but was thrilled with the results. I felt like an old hollywood movie star, but still me. they opened the salon on a sunday just for us. we brought champagne and OJ for mimosas and snacks. they reserved parking for us to make us feel like movie stars. Lucinda's folks had trouble with 2 of my girls with shorter hair, they didn't know what to do with it. Mine was amazing, but I had hoped all of us would have the same kinds of results.

If there were a higher rating scale I would definitely give it to this vendor! Lucinda was such a pleasure to work with and went above and beyond expectation for our wedding. I reserved her services (hair & make-up) for myself but we ended up using her for my maid-of-honor, Mom, & mother-in-law on my wedding day. She is so nice to work with (and funny!) and made me feel completely at-ease (and not to mention beautiful!). I had a hair/make-up trial with her a few months prior so she knew exactly what I wanted on the day-of. It was so nice to have her work on-site so I didn't have to worry about rushing to/from the venue - plus she works Sundays which is difficult to find! I still can't believe how flexible she was to take on more people at the last minute - she definitely went above & beyond and made everyone look gorgeous. I can't say enough great things about her & her services!

Whether she comes to you on site or you visit the beautiful new salon - you will feel like a princess getting ready to walk down the aisle. Lucinda is always a professional and stays abreast on the hottest wedding trends. Her looks are never cookie cutter and are fresh in style. It can be a bit overwhelming to hand over hair and makeup to someone on your wedding day, but after meeting Lucinda you will have full confidence that she will make you look your most beautiful - and still look like YOU!
