Fontana & Co.
I picked this salon because my MIL knows the owner and highly suggested it...I definitely would not have paid as much for an updo otherwise. I was a little disappointed that Liv decided to change my entire style (in spite of doing a trial run) the day of...but I didn't bring pictures so I guess that's my fault? I dunno. We never got to do a make up trial run because she had another appointment after me. That was partly my fault because we went to the wrong address first and showed up half an hour late. However, when I scheduled the appointment I told them they'd need at least 2 hours (I have a LOT of hair and wanted a cut as well). They assured me I'd be in and out in an hour. The prices they quoted me were also bunk, but we had a party of 8 getting various hair dos that day so I didn't push it.
All that said, it was great of them to allow us to have a brunch in the salon (don't worry, it wasn't near the hair stuff) and they were very good about letting me change my "order" even up to the week before the wedding. We all got done in time (me with an hour to spare, but mostly because I'd offered to show up an hour early) and had a great time. The make up (excepting the whorish shade of lipstick I promptly wiped off as soon as she wasn't looking) lasted all day and the updo did as well...once they redid it twice.
The risk of a destination wedding is not being able to use your regular stylist. I found this out in a big way when I started looking for salons 5 hours from where I live. It took me months of calls and trial & error to find this salon, which Kat had mentioned to me. The bridal rate is OK, $200 for travel, but they try to mandate an 18% tip. You can't dictate what the tip is, it's discretionary and up to the person receiving the service. My hair and makeup came out great but Liv took over 2 hours and only left me with 10 minutes to change and put on my jewelry before my ceremony! The trial appointment was rushed also, and even though I wasn't happy with my hair I had to leave because she had another appointment after me. So I had to figure out another easier hairstyle that I thought would work better for the wedding, and it did look great but it wasn't any quicker for her to do. Fontana uses Bare Minerals which is the makeup I use anyway and it's great. They have tons of colors and shades and my photos came out wonderfully. Also 3 days before my wedding, the salon called me (out of state mind you) and tried to tack on another $75 for travel. I had to argue with them twice by phone to get them to honor the $200 price. But $200 is $50 more than what I was originally quoted, so this is the second time they jacked up the rate on me. I think they should have stuck with the $150 price they gave me in June, but they had fired the person who quoted me $150 so I had to pay $200. Liv was great but this salon is very hard to deal with. They also made me pay a deposit in cash the day before the wedding, which they notified me of at the last minute, as if I had nothing better to do the day before my wedding! The Aveda salon at University Mall was awesome, they did a great job on my attendants and my mom and had them done in an hour for both hair & makeup!
