French's Cupcake Bakery

We booked 6 months in advance after doing a tasting and speaking with Diane French(the owner) about what we wanted for our dream wedding cake. My fiance(now husband) had created our wishing well from scratch, it was a beautiful lighthouse that has decorative windows and doors, we wanted the cake to complement the design of our wishing well and Diane made us feel as though she would love to make this happen for us. We paid the deposit 2 weeks after our original consultation and brought in a picture of the unfinished lighthouse, then sent 3 follow up emails with updated pictures showing all of the decorative windows and doors. They never got back to us and never said there would be a problem until 2 weeks before the wedding when we went in to pay the balance. Their story changed and they ask for more money and said that THE OWNER quoted us wrong and should of never quoted us as she did. I never heard from Diane as I had asked for her to call me so we could clarify. No one seems to know what the other is doing and they were very uncompromising. We decided to get a standard "layered" cake with all the decorations and when it was delivered it was a plain white blob that had ZERO decoration, it didn't match the wishing well and the only effort that appeared to be done to it was a wooden house topper that they must of purchased from Micheal's and then put some chocolate on, it looked nothing like they said it would! Absolutely no creativity. To top that they still ended up charging us an additional $50 when my fiance went and paid for the balance! The cake tasted fine but there was none left over for us to even have a slice to take home. They were definitely our worse wedding vendor.

My parent's used French's for their wedding cake 37 years ago, so it was really special for us to be able to use them as well. Not only did our cake look GORGEOUS, but it tasted UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! We had a different flavor for each tier and there wasn't a bad flavor in the bunch. Our guests actually took cake home with them it was so good!!!! My favorite was the chocolate cake with peanut butter filling, but my new hubby liked the lemon blueberry cake with the lemon cream cheese frosting. We will be using French's for many years to come!!!!

Our cake was absolutely delicious!!!! The best wedding cake I have ever had. (Even if it was my wedding cake) Mmm... French's produces great cake, design was good, customer service i just ok. Every time I would call to speak to some one about making changes or what have you, I felt like it was a little disorganized. But overall I was extremely happy with the quality of the cake and icing! Just great!

We did cupcakes and they were amazing! I looked around for A LOT of different cupcakes in the area and French's had by far the best prices and the best taste. There were so many flavors to choose from and they even matched the icing for one of the flavors to my colors.
The delivery was inexpensive and right on time so I was not freaking out about the cake getting to the reception hall.
It is a very small store so when you go in for a tasting don't bring 5 people like I did...no room. But other then that it was wonderful.

We didn't look into French's Cupcake Bakery for our wedding cake until 2 weeks before our wedding but, despite waiting until almost the last minute, the staff was very helpful. My husband and I were very busy with work and didn't have time for the cake tasting so we had to send my mom and sister in our place. I was so disappointed until they told me French's would pack up a sample of every cake and filling and send it home for us to test! We gave French's one of our wedding invitations and they decorated the cake in the same colors and designs. It turned out perfect and better than I had even imagined. In the end we chose three delicious cake/filling combinations for our small 3 tiered cake and each was a hit at our wedding. I only wish that we had ordered a larger size so we'd have more to take home! For any chocolate lovers interested in French's Cupcake Bakery, make sure you sample the Killer Chocolate Cake with chocolate ganache filling :)

We had a smaller wedding cake and a dessert bar at our reception. I loved this! It looked great, gave guests options and cost less than feeding everyone cake. French's was great for this because we could get everything in one place. We had cake, tiramisu, cheesecake, brownies, cookies, lemon bars, pecan bars etc. We gave them a rough idea of what we wanted our cake to look like and let them design it-- it turned out great! We received many compliments on the quality of the desserts. It is a pretty small place, with a casual atmosphere. They are closed on Sundays and there are only two people to talk to about wedding orders so at times it was a little difficult to get in touch with the right people, but this didn't cause us any problems.

French's Bakery did our groom's cake (in a shape of a racquetball racquet) and our 4 tier wedding cake. They were both DELICIOUS and looked wonderful as well! We highly recommend French's Bakery for cakes and even bought my birthday cake there and look forward to continue to use them in the future. :)

Cakes by French's Cupcake Bakery had some really amazing cakes to choose from. When were looking through the different designs and pictures, my husband and I were both in awe and were convinced that we were going to get our cake from them. Our guests must have had the same reaction when they saw the cake, because we got tons of compliments. It tasted awesome too!

The cake came out great! They decorated it perfectly and it tasted great. My only complaint was that they were so slow to respond, if they even bothered to respond at all. However, they did such a great job and at a great cost that I would recommend them.

Although the tasting and design session we had was great, when we showed up to our reception, I realized the cake did not look like it was supposed to. We had left a full spool of ribbon that we had used throughout our wedding on invitations/replies/welcome notes/menus and it was not on there. The cake looked extremely plain and odd. It was such a 'small' thing in terms of what the day was all about, but I was VERY dissapointed I never got a call from anyone and they never said anything to us. I still don't know if they lost the ribbon, or why the cake was not how we had discussed and contracted :(

French's made the most beautiful cake for my wedding. I had a beach themed wedding and I brought them a picture of a cake I had seen and they were able to recreate it exactly the was I wanted it. Not only was the cake good to look at but the taste was great too. I had sample a lot of cake for my wedding and French's really was by far the best and the best priced. Everyone at the bakery was very nice and helpful also.

We ordered cupcakes for our wedding! They were sooo amazing! Loved all of the flavor choices and they did beautiful flowers on them as well. We had a small red velvet cake to cut for the bride and then for a groom's cake they made a basketball cake! It was a huge hit and my husband loved it! I would highly recommend them to anyone!

My cake was delicious and French's was very willing to help us work with our budget. Highly recommended.

Cake was fantastic! Worked closely with us to make sure we got what we wanted.

Initially, we were a little worried about this bakery because they are not your usual “wedding cake” bakery. It’s a small mom-and-pop (literally!) bakery in Costa Mesa that MIL and all her friends have been using for years. We loved all the cakes that MIL got for us in the past and their cream puffs (you have to try these babies when you get a chance), but honestly we were less than impressed with the customer service. Our first appointment with Ginny, their wedding cake person, wasn’t even with Ginny – she wasn’t in or whatever their reasons were and we weren’t notified, so Dianne, her mother and the wife of the husband-wife owners, met with us. That was a bad sign for us, and there were a few communication problems after that, making us concerned that our cake may end up wrong, late or not show up at all. Our worries were all for naught because our cake showed up on time, was exactly like we wanted and tasted delicious.

I was working within a fairly small budget and wanted cupcakes and a small cake. They worked within my budget and I booked it two weeks before my wedding!! Everybody loved it and there was no food left at the end!
