I am hoping that this is still an 'In-progress' situation - and will be happy to update my review later if that is the case.

The good: We love garrett's work posted online. He was friendly to work with and agreeable with all of our requests. Garrett met me, my partner, my family and her family on the Queen's campus after my PhD graduation. He took convocation photos, family photos, professional head shots for my father and me, and engagement photos for my partner and me. We enjoyed the time with him and he seemed to have creative ideas for working with the very few leaves that were left on the trees to make some great shots. What he showed us on his camera looked great.

The bad and the awful: We heard from Garrett immediately after the shoot. He confirmed receiving payment and said that he would be sending us the photos with a tracking number ASAP. We didn't hear from him again until April after launching a Better Business Bureau complaint (as I initially did not want to post public reviews of the experience). Garrett contacted us on April 4th saying that he would send us the photos ASAP that he was sorry for the delay - but that his family had moved during the winter and things had been moved around and were in various boxes. He said he had our disc of photos ready and that he would send us the tracking number for the package the very next day. We haven't heard from him since. It is now April 18th. The BBB has closed the complaint and given him an F rating on their site - http://www.bbb.org/ottawa/business-reviews/photographers-portrait/garrett-elliott-photography-in-amherstview-on-37852 .
Despite numerous attempts to make contact, we don't hear from him.
Mostly, we just really want to have our photos of a day that we cannot re-create, but so far, no luck. I have a feeling they will be great photos when/if we ever get them... but for now, the experience has to be rated as quite horrible.

I have known Garrett for a couple of years now as we used him for a family photo shoot and a couple of other things. It was a natural choice to have him shoot such an incredibly important day for us. He was my on the top of my 'Must-Have' vendors when I was booking everything.

I can truly say he is one of the best and most professional photographers I have seen. He is personable, fun and incredibly creative. I can not say enough positive things about this man. I have seen a couple pictures so far from our wedding day, and I am already so excited! He captured everything, and then some. He is easy to communicate with, flexible, and reliable. He is also very stealth! Half of the time, I didn't even notice he was there.

Kudo's, Garret! You are our photographer for life!! :)

Garrett understood exactly the sort of photos we wanted right from the moment we met. We wanted very photojournalistic style, with little to no posing… we wanted him to capture those hidden little moments between us on our big day, not just us smiling for the camera. The only thing I regret is not getting a couple group shots of the entire wedding party (but that’s not Garrett’s fault, it’s my own oversight!). I believe he can also do more traditional photography too. The only downside of working with Garrett was the extended wait to get our album, but once we received it, it was definitely worth the wait! Since my wedding, my stepsister has also used him for her wedding and was equally thrilled with his work.

Contemporary wedding photography for Kingston, Toronto, Ottawa, and every where in between.

I'm a photographer from Amherstview, Ontario (near Kingston) and I shoot mostly weddings. I'm kind of a nerd and I like things that are a bit different, so hopefully that comes through when you view my portfolio. I like lots of colour, happy couples, and Battlestar Galactica.

I'm very fortunate to have really cool clients who trust my vision behind the lens. I'm pretty laid back, and I think that helps me blend in and go with the flow to get candid shots as well as posed portraity shots.

I grew up with Nintendo, Saved By The Bell, and Transformers, and I love cool wedding photography.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes

Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?

I don't really offer any "special techniques", unless cool photography is a special technique. Haha, just kidding. Kind of.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?

I like natural light, so I don't use a lot of flash, but every now and then I'll break out a soft-box for off-camera flash. And I'll use flash during the reception for dancing photos and stuff.

Is your media preference film or digital?

I'm all digital, all the time.

How many photographers do you work with?

One (me).

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?

Yes.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?

Never more than one wedding in a day, but I will do two weddings in two days on a weekend.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

Yes.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?

Pro Nikon gear, with full backups of everything. Multiple lenses for different looks throughout the day. The odd lighting equipment.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?

Definitely.

Do you charge hourly or full day?

Full day.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?

N/A

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

None, really, unless there's a lull in the action. I'll try to take the odd break for a quick drink or bite to eat, but I'm rarely ever have the camera leave my hand.

Do you charge for travel?

No.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?

I try to have everything ready within a few weeks of the wedding date, but I contractually give myself up to 12 weeks in case of any unforseen craziness.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?

They're not really proofs; I give fully-edited, high-resolution images on a DVD.

How long can the client keep the proofs?

Forever.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?

No.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?

Yes (if the couple agrees to it in the contract).

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?

Yes.

Will images be available for viewing online?
