Hallak Cleaners is a premier company and tops in their field. Trust the most important dress of your life to the gown preservation specialists. My gown has been perfectly cleaned and preserved. It's all ready to be removed from its protective box and put on if I ever want to wear it again. The personal service and detail to attention by bridal coordinator Donna is exceptional. This is literally a white glove company - your wedding dress will be returned to you cleaned and preserved Smithosonian style and will include a pair of white gloves to use to inspect your gown so no body oils will mar the dress. The investment in your wedding dress is well worth the price of having Hallak Cleaners protect this memorable and cherished asset. Thank you Donna and your team for your care in ensuring that my wedding dress remains as beautiful as the day I wore it!

when it came to cleaning & preserving my daughter's wedding dress, which was actually mine ( redone for her) , Hallek was the only one I considered using...They also cleaned my dress which was very expensive & quite ornate ( with a lot of detail ) & it came out beautifully..I was very pleased!

Living 2000 miles from your wedding location can be daunting. The logistics of getting the dress from California to NY the week of the wedding , with a week stay in NJ gave me a headache. I asked around and several leading dress shops recommended Hallak, and I am so glad I selected them.
They are complete professionals and handled every aspect of shipping, pressing and preserving my dress. Donna coordinated with the concierge at the my hotel, and I arrived at my hotel suite to find the dress pressed to perfection. Their day of emergency kit truly useful.
After the wedding I returned the dress to them for preservation and everything was beautifully done.
It was such a relief to be able to depend on them, and to know that I did not have to worry about the dress at all.
One of the best decisions I made.

If you don't bring your wedding dress to Hallak, it will for sure will be ruined! I had a problem with a bustle they created for me, but they fixed it no charge! YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP IF SOMETHING IS WRONG! They don't have ESP and cannot tell if something is wrong with what they did for you. I was reading the other review about them and how she said they were horrible, I bet she never called them cause I bet they would have done something for her for free! My friend had her dress done by the corner cleaner and it yellowed in less then a year because of the plastic window or something. Hallak took it in, fixed it up, and now my friend and I are still customers for our better clothing. These guys are the best at what they do and I recommend them to everyone everywhere!

I am so lucky to have found Hallak cleaners for my wedding dress alterations! I had purchased my dress in Feb for my Sept wedding and brought it for alterations to another dressmaking shop in Midland Park, NJ. The woman held my dress prisoner until August 16, when I went for my fitting she had CUT the bottom unevenly AND too short, took apart the beaded bodice and just completed messed up my gown (and then had the nerve to scream in my face not to criticize her work and that I'd have to deal with it because it's a hard dress to work on!). In a panic, I was trying to find someone to fix my dress which was now too short and too small 1 month before my wedding date!! I called a couple places and Hallak cleaners was the only place that told me that we could make it work in time. My mother & I brough my dress in that day and Kiymet very calmly looked at all the problems that needed to be fixed--2 days later I came back for a fitting to see if the length could be fixed and it looked better already. I went back for 3 more fittings in the next 2 weeks and the dress was absolutely perfect! Kiymet had taken my dress home to complete all the work on time and completely reconstructed my dress!! She also hand beaded the back piece that goes behind the corset to make it go with the front of the dress! Kiymet is the ONLY REASON I have something to wear down the aisle next weekend!! She also fixed my mom's dress and my maid of honor's dress, both which were vandalized by the same dressmaker that ruined my gown. I highly recommend going to her first before chancing it with someone else!!!!!!!!!!!

Hallak provided a very professional experience. They were expensive, but I felt very well taken care of, and the entire experience was excellent. I brought them a vintage dress from the 1960s, which I had already had altered to fit me, and they were able to clean it and restore some of the oils to the lace. I highly recommend their bride's "kit," which has lots of little emergency tools for the day of the wedding, and also includes a substantial discount off their services.

I chose Hallak to clean and preserve my dress because it was the preferred vendor of the salon where I bought my dress. They were always very helpful, flexible, and professional. The day before it was due back, I called to confirm its arrival and I was told everything was on schedule.
That day, I called again to check for something else and was told it was NOT scheduled to go out until the following week. My first reaction was annoyance, but immediately when I explained that I had taken a day off to receive the package, they told me they would courier it out that day. They even called me when the deliveryman was on his way. Very helpful and thoughtful service!
My only real gripe is the price. I just can't feel good about spending as much money as I did to preserve my wedding dress. But what I do like is that I'm encouraged to open the box and look at my dress, and even take it out every few years to refold it. In contrast, most other places I talked to insisted that it stay sealed or risk voiding the guarantee, which always sounded kind of shady to me.
The size of the box is quite large - far too large for my liking in my NYC studio apartment. But that probably has more to do with the dress, so Hallak can't be faulted for that.
If you have the money to spend and want to be sure the job is done right, go with Hallak. They have excellent, friendly customer service to go with their reputable service as wedding dress cleaner and restoration experts.

I had a wedding dress that I wanted to fix up and I originally took it to a tailor who said that what I wanted could not be done. Luckily, I found out about Hallak cleaners and they fixed my dress exactly the way I wanted it. She even gave me advice and was willing to work with me over and over until she got it exactly how I wanted it. Thank you Hallak cleaners. I will be back!

My wedding dress is from 1872, and I was the 7th bride to wear it in our family, so it definitely needed special care when it came time to getting it pressed before the wedding. Hallak Cleaners was recommended to me by the Association of Wedding Gown Specialist, and I was quite pleased with the recommendation. Hallak's shop is based in NJ, but they sent a messenger into Manhattan to pick up my dress for free and gave me a free quote! They were open to working within my budget, which was wonderful, and they did a fine job pressing the gown. And the customer service was spot on. Thanks Hallak.

I was very disappointed with my bridal alterations from Hallak cleaners. The bustle broke and not onyl did I spend a lot of time trying to get the dress to bustle, but I had to safety pin my dress up at the reception. I will not be recommending Hallak cleaners to anyone looking for wedding dress alterations in the Bergen County area.

We apologize for the obvious inconvenience of a bustle tie breaking. We would be more than happy to view your gown. Although there is nothing to do at this point in regards to your actual wedding date, we would like the opportunity to see what happened to your bustle and help you out with a preservation, if interested. Please feel free to call me at 212.832.0750x222.

Hallak cleaners created a bustle for my dress -- one main one, and one backup, and both broke immediately on my wedding day. They were a huge pain in the ass to deal with and I had a BROKEN dress because of them on my wedding day. I hate this place.
Vendor response to review
While reviewing past reviews, we were quite disappointed in seeing this one. However, we would like to point out a few things. When there are limited loops or bustle hooks on a gown, there is no way to guarantee that a mishap may occur. We, of course, are happy to add additional adjustments to secure a bustle. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this gown so it is a bit difficult to reply completely. When a gown is being handled, it is difficult to guarantee that someone may pull too hard or the bustle gets caught on something. For our future brides that are wary of their bustle, my best advice would be to let us our your seamstress take a look over. If they suggest an additional loop or hook, it is probably in your best interest to follow their advice.
An amazing company that specializes in preserving one of your most treasured garments - your bridal gown. Totally professional and sticklers to detail, you'll also find their customer service is second to none. Recommended!

FAQ for Hallak Cleaners - Gown Preservation Specialists
What is preservation?Your completely clean gown is carefully packed with acid-free tissue in a museum-quality wedding chest that protects your gown from the air and light that cause unprotected gowns to yellow.
Why is your process different from others? Spills such as soda, wine and cake (many times caused by a guest and unnoticed by the bride) contain sugar and often dry without leaving a visible mark. Sugar is not dissolved during ordinary drycleaning and caramelizes over time into ugly brown stains. We take an extra step to be sure all stains, both seen and unseen, are removed.
Is your wedding chest different from others? Our trademarked MuseumCareTM wedding chest is completely acid-free, not just pH neutral. Boxes that are only pH-neutral are not as safe for your gown, and ordinary boxes and tissue are heavy in acid, which damages fabric. Ordinary boxes and tissue cause yellowing and “burn” gowns leaving dark brown streaks wherever the fabric touches the box.
Can I see my gown when it is in the wedding chest? You can see your gown through an oval window made of polypropylene, an inert plastic that will not yellow or damage your gown. Some of our members do not use this lid. Instead they wrap the gown in muslin, and you can fold back the muslin to view your gown.
What else can I preserve with my gown? Such things as a headpiece and veil, petticoat, gloves, garter, and handkerchief may be stored with your gown. There may be an additional charge. You may also choose to store your things in more than one chest. Shoes should not be stored with the gown because fumes from the leather and glue may cause damage.
We can also preserve other special garments such as christening gowns, communion dresses, quinceaneros gowns, military uniforms, etc.
Will you make repairs to my gown? We can make any needed repairs. For some repairs there may be an additional charge.
What is the guarantee? 100% international guarantee against caramelized sugar stains or yellowing of your gown backed by Certified Wedding Gown SpecialistsTM in more than 500 cities around the world. Return gown to any participating Specialist who will inspect the gown and press it at no charge.
What if I open my gown? The guarantee is not voided, but improper handling of the gown may cause damage, and it should be resealed. If your gown is handled excessively or soiled it should be cleaned and preserved again.
Months of planning go into this single, special day. A wedding gown isn’t just a dress, it’s a part of one’s life story. It is important to plan for a gown’s cleaning and preservation procedure, remembering the key to a successful preservation is to begin the process as soon as possible after the wedding.
Bridal gowns receive a thorough inspection for loose beading, appliqué, and other minor repairs. Special attention is devoted to minor stains which left unattended can turn yellow or brown over time. This is followed by a meticulous and thorough cleaning and hand-finishing. Finally, a gown undergoes a series of additional inspections before it is deemed ready for careful folding and placement into a museum-quality, acid-free preservation box originally designed for the Smithsonian Institution.
When a bride decides that she would like to wear a vintage gown, many factors must be considered. Hallak has been restoring gowns and antique fabric for close to 40 years. The ultimate goal of restoration is to restore a vintage gown to its true color, without damage to the original fabric. In our business, there is nothing more gratifying than being able to restore a vintage gown and see the smile on the bride’s face when she realizes that she will be able to walk down the aisle in a dress that was once worn by someone dear to her.
