I will make this short because I am sick of talking about it to everyone. First off, Chad is great, responsive, etc. The bartender who worked our wedding, James, sucked. He was rude to many of our guests, tons of people complained about him, and I really wish we had hired someone else. He carded everyone, timed people on how fast they were drinking, and wouldnt even give my MOH bottled waters while we were taking our photos, without telling her to get in line first! I did email Chad and complain, and he addressed my concerns, thoroughly, but, I felt that he really just dismissed my complaints, and was just satisfied with the fact that I was well taken care of the whole night. Unfortunately, I was one out of about 150 people at our wedding. My husband hated our bartender, who wouldnt serve him until I had to verbally tell him that he was the one who paid them, that he was the groom and was over 21. It was ridiculous. If you use their services, make sure you dont get stuck with James. Not worth the money. The bartender was the ONLY thing my guests complained about.

I cant make any apologies for any of our staff carding anyone. Believe me, the Bartenders don't want to look at 100 IDs. It slows them down and its an inconvenience to the guests, but it is part of their job. They take liquor classes thru-out the year and the #1 point that is drilled into their heads repeatedly is to card everyone. If you have been to the airport recently you will see that even an 80 yr old cant get a glass of wine without being carded. Unfortunately its the world we live in where everything is about liability. Weddings in particular are notorious for underage drinking. The Bartenders themselves are personally liable and can even go to jail for unknowingly serving a minor. We get undercover liquor agents at events. We get secret shopped when we work at the sports venues. In Arizona its actually illegal to serve someone if you have asked for ID and they cannot produce a valid form of ID. Its very serious business and although it can be a hassle for both sides it is part of doing business. The number one reason why venues contract us to do their Bar Service is for liability purposes and we get compliments from venue owners all the time thanking us for taking this part of the job so seriously. Again, sorry if it was an inconvenience but we hear "I'm the one paying the bill", "I'm in the wedding party and don't have my ID" or "Its OK he's my son". We simply cant compromise when it comes to age verification or any other AZ Liquor Laws that would jeopardize our Liquor Liability Insurance or get ourselves or the venues fined. It seems that, unfortunatly for this client, checking the ID's of certain guests and monitoring alcohol consumption were considered unforgivable offenses and that it set the tone (negatively) for the way the rest of the evenings bar service was judged. Yes we ID. Yes we monitor guests consumption. Venues hire us to take on these responsibilities and we take these duties seriously. I was nervous at first about selecting a bartender for my wedding. Hey Bartender was one of the 1st places I contacted & it was one of the only places that contacted me back. I ended up bumping into Chad at one of the bridal expos. After chatting for a second, he remembered my email AND was able to pull up my inquiry right then and there. We began discussing all the little details that come along with hiring bartenders, so from that second on, I knew Hey Bartender was the choice! Chad answered all my emails/questions so quickly..He was even kind enough to suggest my amazing DJ & a party staff service, in which I utilized both. Chad really knows his stuff. He sent 2 bartenders to my wedding, & they were both professional, friendly, and 1 step ahead the entire night. They helped in making our day go smoothly & perfectly! My parents, as well as my guests were very impressed! Thank you Chad for taking so much time to ensure we got everything we wanted!! We look forward to utilizing Hey Bartender in the future!!

We got two bartenders from Hey Bartender! and went with their bronze package. Some guys arrived early to drop off all the alcohol and supplies, then the bartenders showed up about an hour before they were to start pouring. They arrived looking clean and professional and did a great job all evening! I would use Hey Bartender! again.

Hey Bartender! went out of their way to help me with my wedding details. Chad is professional, knowledgable and an absolute delight to deal with. I knew I would never feel stupid asking any sort of question (and believe me, there were some stupid questions asked!) and he was so thorough and efficient, when he said "It will be taken care of," I knew it would. On the day of the wedding, everything was just perfect and seamlessly executed -- even a few special requests that he fulfilled with a big smile!

Very reliable and professional. Was a pro and did not need anything. Handled job with little to no effort on my part- except to show him where to set up- that was it. He handled the rest. I was very pleased and would use Hey Bartender again in a heartbeat. Thank you.

I recently used Hey Bartender for my wedding. Not only were there prices amazing (no one else in the Phoenix area even came close in price), but the bartender they provided was fantastic. All our guests really enjoyed his personality and his service. Hey Bartender even had to go out on a few occassions to get more of the alcohol and supplies that we ran out of. I don't know too many places that will do that for you. They made our wedding perfect. I will use them again and again.

We were in a pinch at the last moment for a bar tender to tend bar at our home for after service. Chad helped us with all aspects of having a bar tender assist us with our planning. He was efficient and returned or eamiled all of our calls. The bartender that tended our occasion was Paul. He was funny, helpful and a pleasure to have as part of our celebartion. We will hire them in the futrue when needed.

Hey, Bartender! carries on my family’s traditional love of the restaurant and hospitality business.  
My father owned restaurants, bars, a pizza joint, and even a disco back in Michigan in the late 70’s.  My brother & I started working in the business well before we could drive and continued all the way through college when I met my wife while she was a Bartender too.  After earning our degrees from Arizona State University
 I spent several years running a local brewpub/microbrewery.  I tried to leave for the “professional” world but couldn’t resist the temptation to eventually start my own business doing what I knew best.

Q: When would a business ever need to hire a Bartending Service?Anytime you have a reason to celebrate! Whether it’s celebrating the end of a successful run or the Christening of a brand new office building alcohol can certainly add to the party. Retirement parties, open-houses, customer/client appreciation, new product roll-outs, you name it - there are more opportunities to hold an event at your business than you might think! They can be a great way to showcase your business and solidify relationships; however there are important considerations anytime alcohol is involved with the workplace. Q: Why hire a Bartending Service and what is Liquor Liability Insurance?Thirty-eight states have passed dram shop statutes. In addition a national model dram shop act has been proposed. The explosion in liquor liability legislation has occurred in the past ten years as states have begun to take an aggressive approach to enforcing state laws on the sale and service of alcoholic beverages.Liquor Liability Coverage protects dispensers of alcoholic beverages against suits arising out of bodily injury and/or property damage caused by its customers to a third party. Establishments covered include bars, restaurants, hotels, motels, or wherever the alcoholic beverages are dispensed. These establishments are excluded from coverage under general liability insurance. Q: Once my guests leave the premises I don’t have to worry about them – right?You may think that you are only responsible for your patrons while they are at your establishment, but that is not the case. There are a number of possible scenarios and hospitality law violations that could have serious consequences for your business, long after the patron has left your premises. In addition to normal premises liability claims, your business could be held responsible for:v Drunk-driving accidents v Underage drinking v Bar fights v Assaults v Over serving of alcohol Q: My Company already has insurance so I should be covered – right?LIQUOR LIABILITY POLICY Purpose: Protects insured’s or their indemnities engaged in the business of manufacturing, distributing, selling or serving alcoholic beverages against liability imposed by law or statute for injury or damage resulting from actions because of intoxication of any other person by reason of the sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages by the insured. This policy is designed to protect the insured against liability imposed by strict Dram Shop Acts in certain states and by common law cases in others, which is excluded in the current revisions of the General Liability policy. Q: My friends and clients won’t get me in trouble by naming me or my business – right?Surveys showed that when drivers were arrested for drunk driving, more than half the time they named commercial establishments as the place where they had last obtained alcohol. Tough enforcement of regulatory laws and new liquor liability legislation was encouraged by such organizations as RID, MADD and SADD. In the most recent statistics compiled by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), over 40% of the automobile accident fatalities in Arizona involve alcohol. Q: My secretary used to be a bartender in college so she knows the laws – right?The retail alcoholic beverage industry's primary response to the increased exposure to dram shop liability claims has been the implementation of server and manager training programs. Researchers are showing a link between comprehensive server training programs and the reduced risk of intoxication. ALL Hey Bartender! staff are certified by the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses & Controls. Don’t risk it! Q: I use a catering company. They must have the proper coverage – right?They probably have coverage - for themselves! If they cannot provide a certificate that has YOUR name or company name on it they probably have “host” insurance as part of their general liability policy. That protects them, not you! Liquor Liability Insurance is expensive! That’s why most caterers do not buy it and many caterers contract out the bartending and liquor service. Make them provide a copy and if they can’t, just call Hey Bartender!Information on this page was gathered from publicly available websites. Consult local laws. Not intended as legal reference. Tipping ArticleTipping is not a city in China! The word TIPS is believed to be an acronym derived from the phrase To Insure Proper Service. Why is it such a point of frustration and confusion? Because there really is no standard when it comes to tipping vendors for weddings and other special events! We all know that when you go out to a restaurant the standard tip is generally between 15-25% depending on the level of service you have received, but what about tipping catering staff, DJ’s, and Bartenders? The best piece of advice is to ask ahead of time! Your wedding day is stressful enough without worrying about taking care of gratuity, not to mention it can be very uncomfortable for both you and the staff. They don’t want to ask for it, you don’t want to forget or look cheap, but you already have spent a good chunk of change and may be feeling a little light in the pocket already! Many catering companies have already included the gratuity into their contract. Maybe a DJ has as well. This should be discussed during your initial consultation when the pressure is off. A good caterer will guide you as to what is appropriate. DJ’s should do the same. Something that we see with the Bartending Service is that they are often hired by a catering company and are not included in the gratuity paid to the servers and kitchen staff! You should inquire when paying for the catering service if they contract out the bar service. You would be surprised at how may of them will hire an outside service, then dress them up like their own staff and you would never know the difference! They don’t do it to be sneaky; it is generally just a matter of outsourcing the liability because they do not carry the proper insurance. However, the catering manager is often times the only one that knows that the Bartender is not really on the catering staff. Also, they may be the only one that knows that the Bartender is NOT included in the gratuity split at the end of the event! Again, the appropriate time to ask is before the day of the event. Usually arranging individual envelopes with cash gratuity prior to the wedding day is easiest. You should then assign one of the groomsmen to be in charge of holding the envelopes and handing them out upon successful completion of the event. Don’t be afraid to pull a couple dollars out of the envelope if someone does a lousy job! Same standards apply as if you were in a restaurant; if you are usually a great tipper but the service was sub par you should adjust accordingly. If you are usually an average tipper, but the service was spectacular the only way to properly thank someone is by leaving a little extra! And please do not punish the DJ or Bartender if the food service was not as good as expected, they had about as much to do with that as the florist did! Hope this article helps.
