My daughter's wedding/reception was perfect...so perfect... that it still seems like it was just a beautiful dream! One of the best decisions I made as Mother of the Bride was to hire Maria Martinez from HJ Planners as our Day of Coordinator. Working with Maria several weeks before the wedding allowed me to remain calm while helping my daughter plan an out of town wedding. Not only did she make herself available for our many questions/concerns, Maria was instrumental in organizing all of our wedding day transportation needs whether it was shuttles for the guests, limos for the bridal party, or get-away car for the bride and groom. She, also, constructed an amazing Wedding Day Timeline that worked just right. Maria was professional and flexible...working with the other vendors to pull everything together, so that I could sit back, smile, and enjoy every moment of my daughter's wedding! Thank you, Maria! We couldn't have done it without you!

Amazing service, hired HJ planners for "day of" service which included unlimited month calls and emails. I could not imagine having a wedding ceremony or reception without an organized experienced wedding planner to help you organize the event. I was care-free the day of my wedding and am truly grateful for it!

My now husband and I worked with Maria, Heather and Kate on our March wedding. HJ Planners are amazing to work with and we can not recommend them enough. They did an amazing job with the day of timeline even though we were sending them changes until the day before the wedding. I think the week before the wedding, Heather was updating the timeline at least 5 times a day due to our email requests. Needless to say, they were all very patient with us.
Even though we only requested a day of planner, HJ Planners helped us for much longer than that. Maria, Heather and Kate not only helped us during the weeks leading up to the wedding but Heather and Kate were also there to assist us during the rehearsal. We had a huge Filipino wedding party with Filipino wedding traditions and Heather and Kate were able to corrall us all and get things organized.
As for the wedding day itself, Heather and Kate were absolutely amazing. We had a lot of details (picture frames to be placed around the venue, stationery, wedding favors, etc) that we didn't really go into detail regarding the placement of the items, but Kate and Heather seemed to have read our minds and executed it all exactly the way we dreamed it. Our guests were all amazed at their professionalism and one guest is still raving about how "the one planner with the earpiece tracked down my lotion". lol.
As I told them in an email, my husband and I don't remember much about the details of the day but neither of us were worried because we knew that Heather and Kate had everything under control.

My husband and me now refer to HJ Planners as our Dream Team. HJ Planners provided wedding planning and day of services for our wedding on March 9, 2013. For the bride who is pondering, why do I need a planner? Is the expense necessary? Call HJ Planners first. In our first consultation Heather did not waste time convincing me I needed a wedding planner, she identified areas where I needed help and things I had not considered. She identified possibilities of what I could do within my budget and the time left to the wedding date. The vendors they referred were best quality, superb value and same caliber of service provider as HJ Planners. HJ Planners does not have any slouches in their arsenal. I did not have any problems with my vendors. All the vendors were focused on solutions and making sure our day was perfect. Heather and Maria implemented and executed a well-organized wedding and reception for us and our family and friends to enjoy. Maria came to my house before the wedding just to check in and pickup a few items for the church. When I arrived everything was just as I wanted it. After the wedding my husband said, “those ladies know what they are doing” even he was impressed with how they operated. Since he was at the church before I was he saw them in action. My mom also acknowledged their services. My mom had nothing to worry about at the end of the reception. Maria had the decorations, gifts and cards organized and ready for my mom and brothers when it was time to go. All they had to do was decide which car to put the stuff in. Because they were so organized I was encouraged to keep things orderly through the planning process. If you have a vision for your wedding call HJ Planners, if you don’t have a vision call HJ Planners. We plan to use HJ Planners for future life events.

When selecting a wedding planner, it's important to know what you need/want. Some we interviewed seemed to sell friendship - we weren't looking to buy friends to help us. Some wanted to use our wedding for their own aggrandizement - we wanted our wedding to be about us, not about the best event to get the planner in magazines. For us, we needed a planner that would maximize the efficiency of the time we spent planning the wedding. 7 months, a budget, and our lofty ideas meant we needed help to shape and improve our vision and then execute all of the research so that we were able to focus on decision making. Frankly, we needed informed legwork to identify options, negotiate, and keep us on schedule. HJPlanners did that and more. As former attorneys and event managers, they were professional, detail oriented, and valuable in making sure that we were not missing the fine print or details. From negotiating contracts through the advice on napkin folding - they covered the gamut of everything we needed to make our wedding a success. They were a perfect match for us, two management consultants, in making sure schedule and vision came together to make one perfect wedding. Although we didn't set out to hire friends or to make an event for page 6, we ended up with a great relationship with great planners who we hope continue to grow in their business ventures!

I worked with Maria and Heather on my October wedding and they were consummate professionals through and through. Always super quick to respond to emails (sometimes even late at night ones), very solution-focused to any issues, and there for you even when you just need to get a stressful rant out. It was great having someone deal with the timeline and deliveries of flowers and food and cakes and my own personal decor, definitely takes some of the stress out not just on the day of but the week of. Maria and her assistant were there for me the day of and seeing them in action, you could tell they genuinely enjoyed doing this. From calming down a nervous bride beforehand to giving little tips right before throwing the bouquet/garter, to creating a solution to a cake that almost didn't arrive and then seriously getting into gear when an actual emergency happened at the wedding (to which the response from HJ was so efficient I assumed they'd dealt with such a unique situation before, turns out they hadn't!), I was very impressed from beginning to end and could appreciate the financial investment I'd made in their services. What really sealed the deal was they didn't drop off the face of the earth and move on to other brides/weddings once mine was over (because I've certainly seen other vendors do that) but kept on with a few after-wedding details (getting decor back, refunds back, generally communicating with both me and my family) which I wouldn't have expected them to do. So yes, I can definitely recommend them and thank them for being such great help!

Maria and Heather did a great job as our planners and were a pleasure to get to know throughout the time we worked together. From the beginning they helped us establish our budget and got things kicked off in terms of advice and recommendations of vendors to use. This ultimately ended up saving us a considerable amount of time and effort - plus several of the vendors they recommended gave discounted prices to us as HJ Planner clients. Heather's expertise in contract review is notable, as she modified several of our big ticket items to be in our favor, and gave us confidence to move forward. Most importantly, we had a fantastic wedding and couldn't have asked for a more responsive helpful team along the way.

I LOVE HJ Planners!!!!!! Heather WAS AMAZING!!!!! I felt like I could ask for anything and they made making decisons so easy. I always felt like I was in great hands. HJ Planners were great. Heather is so organized and she was really helpful with negotiating contracts and dealing with all the different vendors! Plus, they get a discount with certain vendors which is really helpful.
We had a 7 page detailed timeline for the day of, and it went off without a hitch. Knowing Heather and Maria were on the scene, I literally did not worry about anything and totally enjoyed the day. Maria was by my side constantly at the wedding, giving me everything I could need and more. I seriously couldn't have done it without them!

I was so happy that we used HJ Planners as our wedding day-of coordinator. While we only used them for the day-of services, Maria was essential throughout the end of the wedding planning process. She came into a wedding with little information and quickly got up to speed to help us develop a flawless wedding. She held video conference calls with my fiancé and me throughout the process, which helped get us both on the same page and for her to review the timeline with us.
Maria was especially important dealing with our vendors. We had a change in the point of contact for our wedding venue about a month from our wedding date. Maria handled the transition with ease and made sure that everything that was promised to us was delivered. She worked closely with all the vendors and reviewed their contracts to ensure that we met and received all contractual obligations.
Maria is incredibly detailed oriented. She thought of things that never even crossed my mind. We had two planners from HJ on the day of the wedding, which assured that the event went smoothly. Everyone had so much fun and I didn’t have to worry about any of the details – big or small – because I know that Maria and HJ planners were handling it all. I work for a well known catering company in the area and met Maria Martinez + the HJ girls from working together. I knew that I would need a month of coordinator to pull off my 170 person outdoor wedding and I went right to HJ Planners. Maria took everything I had planned for this wedding and executed it perfectly! Her and Jess were so flexible about meeting times (with my crazy schedule) and knew when to step in when it came to various vendors so that I could just be involved in the more fun things! They were extremley responsive to any questions my parents or I had and made me feel that this wedding was just as important to them as it was to me! At first, I had reservations about hiring a planner for my daughter's wedding. I was concerned about how much the wedding was going to cost, and wasn't sure a planner was essential. How wrong I was! HJ Planners did a fabulous job! They saved us enormous amounts of time by helping us narrow our venue search and finding terrific and affordable vendors for us (florist, printer, musician, DJ, photographer) that we never would have found on our own. When we began planning our daughter's wedding, I was one of those who was skeptical about the need for a planner. I could not have been more wrong. We could not have done it without HJ Planners. Their budget advice was accurate and helpful. Their vendor advice and recommendations were invaluable. We were planning our wedding in DC metro area when we were still living overseas and preparing for an international relocation at the same time. Having HJ Planners saved us a lot of leg work. Their key assistance included (but are not limited to) the recommendation and seletion of the venue, caterer, photographer, cake baker, DJ, florist, bridal hair and make-up salon, transportation options, hotel blocks, officiant.
Amanda was a pleasure to work with. She was understanding and very responsive to my detailed questions and requests. When she had to go on vacation for a week, she sent a detailed email summarizing status of various items and handing it over to her colleagues. A few days before the wedding, I was tied up entertaining family memembers who came into town and didn't respond to Amanda's emails timely. She called me just to make sure all is okay and I wasn't "MIA".
Maria and others at HJ Planners also provided help when needed. They helped us to get out of a sticky situation (our fault) with one vendor. On the day of the wedding, Maria also helped me sew layers of the train of my wedding dress so that it is easier for me to move around during the reception.
I appreciate their service and am happy to recommend them to other couples planning for their big-day!

If you are searching for a wedding coordinator--seriously, stop your search and call HJ Planners. I had no idea how important a wedding coordinator would be until I became immersed in the reality of wedding planning. HJ Planners is the real deal and my husband and I look back and are SO glad we decided to go with them. Heather and Maria are experienced and very professional--it's obvious from day one. I worked mostly with Maria and words cannot explain how helpful she was. She proactively kept me posted on everything, met with me to go over every detail, and was always a few steps ahead of the game. Every email and phone call of mine was answered in a very timely manner (and I'm high maintenance!) and she worked non-stop on my behalf. In fact, there were several times that I'd call her with new matters and she had already beat me to it and was prepared with answers. On the big day, they had oversight on everything--from the daytime church ceremony to the end of the night in downtown DC, they ensured everything went as planned. They helped me with the big stuff and the little stuff, even bustling my dress 5 times during the reception. I seriously had ZERO stress on my big day because I knew they had everything under control. I have them to thank for being able to exhale on my wedding day, relax, and have fun. They are very affordable and take great pride in their work. Take it from a recent bride who successfully had a classy and elegant DC wedding, this is money well spent. You will not regret it!

I used HJ planners for my September 2011, and am so thankful I did! I told Heather I was looking for "day of planning" at a responable price, and she did just that! By the time I realized I needed some help, I can most of the scheduling/planning finished. I just needed someone to do the work day of, and basically relieve the stress off my shoulders. I first heard of HJ planners because I go to the same hairdresser as the owner and was given her card. When I emailed her from the website I was called back immediately and on a Saturday no less! This was very impressive to me because I had been getting the runaround from site vendors and was wondering what had happened to customer service. When we first spoke Heather made me feel so at ease and picked up on my easy going nature and sense of humor and even put one of our inside jokes into the contract. I usually decide with my gut and I had a good feeling about her company. The rest of our relationship was up and down. Her and her partners continued to be prompt when replying to our questions but they most turned the questions back to us and made us decide. We had hoped the point of hiring them was that they would take care of all that. My other complaints were that they did not direct, they did not take the reigns when I needed them too. I had explicitly indicated we needed step by step directions for the ceremony because we were asking a friend to marry us after being ordained online and she had never done this before. They were no help at all and my friend stepped up to determine who walked with who, pacing, where people should stand at the alter, the order of things etc. She was not getting paid for that. Multiple times during the wedding day I could not find a single representative from HJ planners even though 4 of them had shown up (we only paid for 2 but they felt 2 more would be of help for the size and scope of the wedding). I had no idea when and where I was needed for pictures or when to get ready for my entrance. I was a nervous wreck until one of the staff from the VENUE came to rescue me in my suite. That should not have happened. At another point before I was announced I told my main planner that I really had to pee and she told me to hold it for 45 minutes. At first I said ok but then my MOH's told me that everyone could wait for ME and that I should go so I did and felt so much better There were some more similar examples of how they slacked the day of and my wedding party or family had to do what I thought was in their contract. To be honest I did not pay for the most expensive, comprehensive package and maybe I should have to get the service I imagined in my head but this is just one person's perspective. The wedding had its blips as all do but over all it was amazing and truly memorable. The guests had no idea what was going on behind the scenes at all and I'm thankful for that. Bottom line this company does a good job in the planning department but could be improved in the execution.

There were only two coordinators from HJ Planners at your wedding, so I'm not sure who else you thought was with our company. That may have been where many of these issues occurred. Just to be clear, neither of our two planners asked you to hold off on using the bathroom; that would be a terrible thing to ask of someone.
We do our absolute best to keep things running as smoothly as possible and my understanding was that you were happy with Sally's services and assistance. At the rehearsal, we asked how you felt about the ceremony and our instruction and you were very positive and seemed comfortable.

I cannot say enough great things about the entire staff of HJ Planners! They were courteous, understanding, caring and - most-important - hard working! There was not a single question of mine or my fiance's which went unanswered; not a single issue overlooked; and not a single aspect of our wedding not crafted to our liking and tastes.
Often, I find it difficult to delegate tasks and be comfortable that they will be completed how I would like them to be. That was not a problem with HJ! Heather, Maria and all the other employees were entirely reliable.
The best thing, though, was that they were not shy in providing advice when asked.
I'm going to miss these ladies! We found a true gem of a wedding planning company and are happy to recommend them to any other bride and groom -- and, in fact, already have to several of our friends!

HJ Planners has exceptional combination of personal and organizational skills that enabled them to work patiently with us to pull together our wedding in a very short amount of time. We only had about 3 months to plan a church and reception for 60 people in the busy holiday season. We had no clue of what we wanted or of how to put together a wedding. And we were totally overwhelmed by the details. Even with the short time frame, Heather and Maria, didn't flinch. They took us through every option step by step from venue search to flower selection and answered any concern or question in a professional responsive manner. They never made us feel like a bother or self conscious and I never had the feeling that they were planning any other wedding. Everything that seemed impossible to me - they seemed to make happen. We had a death in the family a month before the wedding and HJ was sensitive but marched forward with what had to be done. I was terribly picky about the dress and Heather was able to guide me to a decision and find someone to deliver a new one in time. Heather and Maria had all vendors organized and everything went off nearly perfect on the wedding day. I didn't spare a thought over the logistics. If not for HJ Planners, there is no way we would have been able to pull off our lovely day in such a short amount of time. Choose HJ if you want thoughtful - professional results!

This was an exceptionally well organized and knowledgeable group of individuals. They were always available to answer questions, give guidance and recommendations and in general to calm the nerves. As a result of their good planning and oversight the "Big Day" was a great success. We received many compliments on how well everything turned out. I always answer by saying that the good results are thanks to HJ PLanners.
I would highly recommend this group of individuals to everyone who is planning a wedding. No matter how much you may think you know or have already planned and established, having someone like this group there on that last day is worth every penny paid. They pick up all the pieces and tie up all the loose ends--things you can't even think about at the last minute. I can't say enough good things about them--I wish I had them around me everyday.

It was so wonderful working with HJ Planners! I was totally anti-planner when I first began planning my big day, I didn't think a stranger would be able to help me envision the day I wanted. A couple months into planning and I realized it was more than I could handle! My Mom and I contacted HJ Planners and from the moment I met Heather I sighed a huge sigh of relief! They were able to take all of the stress of planning off of me and made it all an enjoyable experience! HJ Planners worked with us during the last two months before the wedding, and by then we had only booked the venue. It released a lot of pressure for us and they guided us through the steps. We were satisfied with most of the vendors that they set up for us, according to our budget. If it could have come with more choices, it would be better. Heather is both professional and flexible. She even taught us how to dance:)
On the day, their service was awesome! The layout was beautiful, beyond our expectation.They guided the guests, reminded us the next thing in line and answered to whatever was needed. The thing that could be improved is gift sorting and storage so that people do not need to come up to the couple asking for places to put them around.
Overall, we were happy to work with them, and would recommend them to our friends.

I'm afraid with only two months to plan the wedding, we were limited on time and how many appointments we could fit in for vendors. There was a designated area for gifts that guests could see right away; but I'm sorry you were asked where to put them.

I have never been so glad about getting involved with a company as I have been with HJ Planners!
As the Mother of the Bride I wanted a memorable and fun wedding for my daughter Megan and her wonderful fiance Stuart. HJ Planners were certainly instrumental in attaining this goal.
Heather was a wonderful point person working with Megan from the start. Megan had ever confidence in Heather at a time that was very stressful and busy.
As an assistant, Marie was wonderful...so cooperative and such a hard worker.
On the big day we did not have to "worry" about anything! Heather, Maria, Frank, and Homyra took care of every single detail. They met with us at about 9:30 a.m the morning of the wedding and were working their "magic" until well after midnight.
Even the day after the wedding when we had some questions they were most helpful. I have never worked with professionals who were so quick to call you back to answer questions or help out with some difficulties.
I can without a doubt recommend HJ Planners to anyone who has a event to plan. I would certainly go to them again without hesitation. They helped make our dreams for Megan and Stuart come true!

Hiring HJ Planners was the single best decision I made for my wedding! I hired HJ Planners soon after getting engaged--before any other vendors--and they navigated me through figuring out my budget, finding and hiring vendors, reviewing contracts with vendors to ensure that my wedding day went perfectly, and managing the vendors on my wedding day. In addition, the staff at HJ Planners was always professional, informed, and responsive whenever I had any questions during my engagement, and went above and beyond to provide great client service. They are the best value in DC, and the planning process and my wedding day went perfectly because of them!

HJ Planners were instrumental in helping us plan our wedding, but it was not until the wedding weekend came did we appreciate their true value. As organized as we were, there were so many details that we needed last minute assistance with - all of which HJ Planners took care of perfectly. HJ Planners are great! I was the skeptical mother-of-the-bride who didn't think we needed a wedding planner. I couldn't have been more mistaken and my daugher could not have had such a beautiful wedding without their help. From dealing with vendors, to overseeing wedding transport of guests, to getting eveyone down the aisle, Heather, Jen, and Maria made everything go seamlessly. They are total professionals who are meticulous about details -- and friendly too.
I can't recommend them highly enough. They were a huge part of making my daughter's wedding a perfect day!

Heather and Jen were fantastic to work with: professional, diligent, creative, and dedicated. They couldn't have made our wedding better. We hired them half way through the wedding planning process and my only regret is that we hadn't hired them sooner. They have fantastic relationships with some of the best vendors in the DC area and ended up saving us a ton of money. It would be hard to say enough nice things about them and I would recommend them highly to anyone looking for a wedding planner.
