Reviews for Hotel Laguna
I visited this hotel as a possible option for my wedding and ceremony. Pros: Its right on the ocean. Beautiful view. And Damon is very on top of things. Cons: The hotel is very old and not in a cute way. A lot of the decore is "80's Beachy" and old and worn. The main ballroom is big but it reminded me of like a Veterans hall or elks club. Not elegant or classy at all. But please dont' take my word for it. Schedule a meeting and tour the place yourself. It may be what you are looking for. But it defenitly was not what I was envisioning for my wedding.
In my personal opinion, the tired and worn place was not worth the prices.

The location is perfect. The rose garden is a beautiful set up for a ceremony. The hotel already had gorgeous flower plants hanging in the gazebo for extra decor. The umbrellas added great shade, but weren’t overwhelming. The reception hall is perfect. All my guests said they felt they were sitting on a cruise ship with the awesome view of the ocean from the panoramic windows. It was nice to go outside on the terrace and take pictures. One flaw is that they don’t let you out there after 9pm.
As far as the management and coordinating, I was very upset that they schedule an event before my wedding. We were told that they would be out at 4pm so we can start setting up the reception room. When my friends and family went down there at 4:30pm, the party was still going on! I was very upset about that. Luckily my ceremony was delayed 20 minutes so my friends and family could decorate and get up to the ceremony in time. They hauled ass! I can’t thank them enough! It just seemed like they didn’t actually know what they were doing or didn’t know who to run a wedding.
As far as the service - OMG! The wait staff were awesome. Food was hot and delicious. My guests said it was the best wedding dinner they have ever had!
I haven't gotten married yet, so this review is based on all my dealings with them up till now (3 weeks before my wedding).
The main contact (head of catering and events) is Damon. He is absolutely WONDERFUL to deal with. He is very accomodating and on top of everything! He quickly responds to my (extensive) emails and phone calls.
He works WITH my budget, rather than try to get me to spend more $$, like other places normally might do.
This hotel is a bit older than the others around it, but still gorgeous (and recently had a lot of renovations done to their interior). The reception room is pretty much right on the sand of the beach (with a private beach in front of it), so the ocean is RIGHT THERE!
And compared to the prices (including minimum requirements) of the surrounding hotels, this place is the definite winner!
The location is great. The roped off their private section of the beach for the ceremony. The ceremony was at 7:00 so the beach really wasn't too busy anyway. The catering staff in general was great to work with...I appreciate that they are so down to earth/laid back, maybe sometimes a little scattered, but I had a really good experience overall.
The coordinator didn't come to the rehearsal, which was fine, but then tried to tell us what to do once he showed up. We just let him know that we took care of everything and it was fine.
They let us into the Laguna room early the day of the wedding, giving us plenty of time to set up, helping us with different details in the room, and let us cleap up the next day. The food was absolutely PHENOMENAL, and I wish I could find the wine we had, just delicious. Would recommend this place for either ceremony or reception or both!
The site was beautiful, we had our ceremony on the beach. Our guests raved about the food (filet and lobster...AMAZING!). The hotel is showing it's age...the beds were not comfotable, parking is a pain and the lack of AC in the rooms was hard for our out of town guests (especially the ones from Alaska!)
Our wedding coordinator was a bit frazzled on the day of, we had to remind him of a few things that needed to happen. All in all, I have to say the wedding was beautiful and I wouldn't trade it in for the world.
I just got married at Hotel Laguna on July 11th. There are a couple of pros and cons. First, the location is BEAUTIFUL!! Right on the ocean, you couldn't ask for anything better. However, the hotel is old and has a certain smell to it. Also, we did not know this, but none of the rooms have air conditioning!! So if it's a warm day like mine was, good luck!! When I checked in, I was given a completely different room than what was promised. I was promised that as a bride, I was to get the "oceanfront" suite. Well, they gave it to some other bride and had nothing to say about it. But my room still had a great partial ocean view.
Now, the hotel coordinator was very late to our rehearsal. Not only that, but our rehearsal was rushed to the point that we were completely done in 10 minutes and I had a bridal party of 18!!!! So the day of the wedding turned out a mess!!! But the food was AMAZING according to my guests. So that was a plus!! I also had a problem with the earlier wedding not being out of the room by 4pm. That caused a huge delay.
My biggest bit of advice anyone considering this place is you get what you pay for and what you see is what you get. The Laguna Room is very old and does have a "elks" lodge feel to it. You really have to keep on top of them to make sure they follow thru with what is promised.
I actually got married here myself not too long ago, and it was a fabulous experience. Damon was the go-to person in charge of everything, and he was absolutely wonderful. He did everything in his power to make me feel like this really was MY day, and went out of his way on several occasions to make things extra special.
