Reviews for Hotel Laguna

I fell in love with the Hotel Laguna the minute we stepped foot inside. It was exactly what we were looking for. The rose garden is very pretty, but the Laguna Room is what sold me. You cannot beat that ocean view! Our wedding day was absolutely gorgeous. Christy was so helpful and all of the wait staff were just wonderful. My only complaint was with the valet and parking. I knew it would be an issue just because we were at the beach. But because it was such a beautiful day, downtown Laguna was a zoo, and it made parking that much more difficult. We had forewarned our guests, but I did not expect the valet to be rude to them, which he was. I also did not expect him to turn our vendors away, which he did. He made my DJ drive around for almost an hour to try and find a place to park! Luckily, everyone managed to park and get to the ceremony on time. Beyond that, it is an absolutely wonderful place to get married. The food was delicious. People are still telling me how good every thing tasted. We are so happy that we got married at the Hotel Laguna and we look forward to celebrating our anniversaries there :-)

Christy was so helpful throughout the entire processes. I planed a long distance wedding and she was always quick to respond to my e-mails and keep me in the loop. The Laguna Room was beautiful and the service was fantastic! The food is on the pricey side (plus the vegetarian dishes cost as much as the fillet and salmon duet) but it tasted amazing. Several of our guests commented it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding and I would have to agree. My only complaint would have to be with the be with the staff of the hotel bar where our party went the night before the wedding. We brought about 30 people into an empty bar to have drinks and the manager was rude and seemed as if he did not want us there even though they were staffed and available to serve. This reflects more no the bar then on the wedding venues since, again, those services were incredible.

I could not have asked for more from the Hotel Laguna. I had seen bad reviews prior to the wedding and honestly I was a little nervous. However; my day would not have been the amazing day that it was if it wasn't for their Director of Sales, Damon. He was attentive, flexible and wonderful to work with. I highly recommend the Laguna Room downstairs which has a full ocean view. It was so gorgeous when we were on the dancefloor to see the waves crashing. Also the patio area was a hit with all of our guests!

Our wedding was my fairytale...i could not have asked for a more beautiful wedding...we got married on the sand and set up some tiki torches...flowers and palm trees...i felt like the bachelorette...the reception was equally as nice...thanks to Damon everything ran smooth and was perfect :) You will not be disappointed...Everyone raved about the food too :)

This venue is AMAZING! You cannot find a better deal for a hotel that is gorgeous, has incredible food, and is located in the center of Laguna Beach on the water-side. The staff are incredibly helpful and they are extremely accomodating! I can't recommend them enough, especially for the price!

I just got married at Hotel Laguna on July 11th. There are a couple of pros and cons. First, the location is BEAUTIFUL!! Right on the ocean, you couldn't ask for anything better. However, the hotel is old and has a certain smell to it. Also, we did not know this, but none of the rooms have air conditioning!! So if it's a warm day like mine was, good luck!! When I checked in, I was given a completely different room than what was promised. I was promised that as a bride, I was to get the "oceanfront" suite. Well, they gave it to some other bride and had nothing to say about it. But my room still had a great partial ocean view.
Now, the hotel coordinator was very late to our rehearsal. Not only that, but our rehearsal was rushed to the point that we were completely done in 10 minutes and I had a bridal party of 18!!!! So the day of the wedding turned out a mess!!! But the food was AMAZING according to my guests. So that was a plus!! I also had a problem with the earlier wedding not being out of the room by 4pm. That caused a huge delay.
My biggest bit of advice anyone considering this place is you get what you pay for and what you see is what you get. The Laguna Room is very old and does have a "elks" lodge feel to it. You really have to keep on top of them to make sure they follow thru with what is promised.

The site was beautiful, we had our ceremony on the beach. Our guests raved about the food (filet and lobster...AMAZING!). The hotel is showing it's age...the beds were not comfotable, parking is a pain and the lack of AC in the rooms was hard for our out of town guests (especially the ones from Alaska!)
Our wedding coordinator was a bit frazzled on the day of, we had to remind him of a few things that needed to happen. All in all, I have to say the wedding was beautiful and I wouldn't trade it in for the world.

I visited this hotel as a possible option for my wedding and ceremony. Pros: Its right on the ocean. Beautiful view. And Damon is very on top of things. Cons: The hotel is very old and not in a cute way. A lot of the decore is "80's Beachy" and old and worn. The main ballroom is big but it reminded me of like a Veterans hall or elks club. Not elegant or classy at all. But please dont' take my word for it. Schedule a meeting and tour the place yourself. It may be what you are looking for. But it defenitly was not what I was envisioning for my wedding.
In my personal opinion, the tired and worn place was not worth the prices.

The wedding coordinator waskind of pushy and seemed stressed on my wedding day. And when it came time for my cake cut she was no where to be found and I had to figure it out myself. So not cool. The wedding day is supposed to be stress free.

The location is great. The roped off their private section of the beach for the ceremony. The ceremony was at 7:00 so the beach really wasn't too busy anyway. The catering staff in general was great to work with...I appreciate that they are so down to earth/laid back, maybe sometimes a little scattered, but I had a really good experience overall. The coordinator didn't come to the rehearsal, which was fine, but then tried to tell us what to do once he showed up. We just let him know that we took care of everything and it was fine. They let us into the Laguna room early the day of the wedding, giving us plenty of time to set up, helping us with different details in the room, and let us cleap up the next day. The food was absolutely PHENOMENAL, and I wish I could find the wine we had, just delicious. Would recommend this place for either ceremony or reception or both!

I haven't gotten married yet, so this review is based on all my dealings with them up till now (3 weeks before my wedding).
The main contact (head of catering and events) is Damon. He is absolutely WONDERFUL to deal with. He is very accomodating and on top of everything! He quickly responds to my (extensive) emails and phone calls.
He works WITH my budget, rather than try to get me to spend more $$, like other places normally might do.
This hotel is a bit older than the others around it, but still gorgeous (and recently had a lot of renovations done to their interior). The reception room is pretty much right on the sand of the beach (with a private beach in front of it), so the ocean is RIGHT THERE!
And compared to the prices (including minimum requirements) of the surrounding hotels, this place is the definite winner!

This place was fantastic! Their prices were incredibly reasonable, especially for Orange County. The minimum requirement for a Saturday night event was one of the lowest I had found. And the food was actually delicious! For our dinner reception, we had chosen a served meal of chicken and filet mignon, and both were perfect...no "rubber wedding chicken" here. Not to mention the VIEW. The reception room overlooks the ocean. Absolutely perfect. The head of catering is Damon Nicholson, and he was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we first met, it was apparent that he paid attention to detail. I sent him email after email about some details, and he responded to each and every one quite quickly. And the same with phone calls, too. All details were ironed out perfectly. I stayed at the hotel the night before the wedding, and as soon as I had checked in, Damon called up to my room to make sure I was settled in and to see if I needed anything at all. He called up the next morning, too, just to check on me. He and his staff were very accomodating. For instance, while room check out was at noon, and room check in not till 2, I needed to go from the room I used the night before to the bridal suite, in order to get ready there. Well, he sent someone up to our room at a little before 11, in order to make the switch as easy as possible. There were a few small "snags" on the wedding day, as there always are... things behind schedule, people with questions, etc... but I didn't know about them until AFTER the wedding day, since Damon handled everything so that I would be able to relax.

Hotel Laguna is in a beautiful spot--we were married on the beach behind the hotel and had the reception/dinner inside. The dinner was generally excellent, especially the seared tuna appetizer, the chicken/sea bass entree and the creme brulee. The chocolate dipped strawberries were beginning to melt, and it took too long for the servers to take orders and deliver the initial drink orders. Damon Nicholson, our coordinator, was very professional, had 4 weddings at the hotel that day. He was quite responsive, wanted us to be happy with everything, but at times was a bit rushed--perhaps excusable given how active the wedding calendar is at the hotel. I would certainly recommend them.

It is a very pretty location and exactly what I wanted. The Rose garden is a perfect ceremony location with a gazebo. The staff was great throughout the whole day and very accommodating. The reception room overlooks the ocean and no one can complain about that!
GUEST

We could not ask for a better site for our ceremony. The hotel provides an amazing staff of coordinators to help with all the arrangements. Everything was perfectly coordinated.

Hotel Laguna is a nice and affordable option for beach weddings. It's right on the beach and in the heart of Laguna, which is good for shopping. I found the hotel staff much more accomodating than many of the other hotels in Laguna. And all the guests loved the hotel.

We initially wanted to have our ceremony on the beach (the hotel has a private beach) but the stairs are narrow and steep and there was no way to get wheelchair or movement impaired grandparents down there. So we settled for the gazebo in the Rose Garden and it was very beautiful. Our reception was in the Laguna Room - their biggest room. The room itself was "meh" but of course decorations take care of that. Even as the biggest room, our wedding party was about 70 people and we took up ALL the space. The view is okay and there's a terrace/balcony to go outside (for the smokers). The food (main reason we chose the place) was fabulous! We had the filet and salmon and got rave reviews from a lot of guests. Damon Nicholson - wedding coordinator for the hotel - was very nice and accomodating. He was prompt in answering our questions and was very present and helpful on the day-of. Only cons - the waitstaff that served the food and appetizers wore tux-type things that were clearly too huge on some people and looked incredibly sloppy. The "bridal room" that was included for the evening was small and the hotel part itself needs a lot of updating. Also, the groom was supposed to have a changing area but instead got stuck in a teeny conference room downstairs! No mirror - no sink... it was interesting.Overall we enjoyed our experience and had a good time. And we love driving down PCH and pointing out the hotel and reminiscing about the wedding. =)

The location is perfect. The rose garden is a beautiful set up for a ceremony. The hotel already had gorgeous flower plants hanging in the gazebo for extra decor. The umbrellas added great shade, but weren’t overwhelming. The reception hall is perfect. All my guests said they felt they were sitting on a cruise ship with the awesome view of the ocean from the panoramic windows. It was nice to go outside on the terrace and take pictures. One flaw is that they don’t let you out there after 9pm.
As far as the management and coordinating, I was very upset that they schedule an event before my wedding. We were told that they would be out at 4pm so we can start setting up the reception room. When my friends and family went down there at 4:30pm, the party was still going on! I was very upset about that. Luckily my ceremony was delayed 20 minutes so my friends and family could decorate and get up to the ceremony in time. They hauled ass! I can’t thank them enough! It just seemed like they didn’t actually know what they were doing or didn’t know who to run a wedding.
As far as the service - OMG! The wait staff were awesome. Food was hot and delicious. My guests said it was the best wedding dinner they have ever had!

I actually got married here myself not too long ago, and it was a fabulous experience. Damon was the go-to person in charge of everything, and he was absolutely wonderful. He did everything in his power to make me feel like this really was MY day, and went out of his way on several occasions to make things extra special.
The staff at Hotel Laguna has always been very helpful and supportive.
