Reviews for House of Brides

I was not overall pleased with the quality of service I recieved at House of Brides. They were not the nicest to me and I came in just to spend money on a dress that day. The dress alsop came in about a month later then they said it would so it left me only 3 weeks for alterations. Luckily I had already planned on bringing it to an outside seamstress. I would have hated arguing with them over rush alterations fees. Even with the lack of customer service (even when I would phone them) I was very pleased with the dress. Elegent, lovely and perfect for my style.

Absolutely Horrible. They honestly don't even deserve a .2 out of 5 I'm being nice. We didn't get our bridesmaids dresses in time (they were ordered 6 months in advance), two of my girls got the wrong sizes and didn't have time for alterations, they overcharged everyone, and hung up on me everytime i'd call to ask where the dresses were. Very unprofessional and rude. I should've known they were horrible when I went in for the fittings and the lady helping us took a cigarette break in the middle of our appointment.

I used House of Brides for my bridesmaids' dresses. (Luckily, I found MY dress somewhere else) Yes, the dresses themselves were beautiful but if I would've known what a hassle it would be to work with House of Brides, I would've ordered them from somewhere else. Our wedding was December 17th. I ordered all the dresses in July and they were STILL late. None of the girls had enough time for alterations because the dresses didn't come in until 3 days before the wedding. Not only were they late but they charged us a rush-order charge (even though we ordered them 5 months in advance) and over-charged two of my bridesmaids for "bigger sized dresses" but when they got their dresses they had to have them taken in several sizes because they were too big. Everytime I called to address these issues, I was given the run-around. I was told someone would call me back and they never did, and I was even hung up on a few times after being put on hold for like 10 minutes. BRIDES...save yourselves the stress and DO NOT GO HERE.

I loved my dress, but felt it was overpriced and took a lot longer to receive than it should have. We called to see what was going on after about 6 months and were told it wasn't in yet. Then, the next week they called to say it was in. A little suspicious. Also, the staff at the front desk was less than eager to assist me. Once we were assigned to someone to help me try on dresses, things were ok ... but it really shouldn't be that unpleasant to shop for wedding dresses.

House of brides has wonderful assistants but terrible management. I had several problems with dresses fitting properly and management took no action until I threatened legal action. Myself and my entire bridal party were fitted accordingly and we all expected to have to get our dresses taken in because the bridal party did some dieting together. Instead, several girls, including myself, had the dresses be a little tight. One of the girls dresses fit so horribly her original dress did not fit and I had to fight with the manager to rush order a new dress. However, the dresses ended up amazing and our sales associate had great personality.

The ladies here were great. They gave me lots of attention and helped with whatever I needed! I would definately recommend them to a friend!

Working with House of Brides was a horrible experience. The dress was beautiful, but everything was a disaster! The first time I went in to shop for my dress they were very helpful and I thought that we had lucked out with HOB. But after I bought my dress everything went downhill. When I went shopping with my bridesmaids, our consultant had made another appointment. She was not there to help pin any of the dresses, and we had to wait 45 minutes for her after we had decided on dresses to order because she was no where to be found. A few months before the wedding, I went in to check on the status of my dress because I had not yet heard from them. They said that they didn't have my correct phone number and hadn't been able to reach me (don't know why they didn't email, send a postcard, or call a bridesmaid-but whatever). When we went to pick up my dress it was in white when we had specificallly ordered ivory. The consultant had guarenteed it would come in ivory and had even showed me a sample of the material. When they checked on this they said that the dress doesn't come in ivory so they just ordered it in white. But of course the veil still came in ivory. When we talked to the salon manager, she said that the records show that they had called to ok this change. Interesting since they didn't even have my phone number. The staff became rude and defensive. They did nothing to right their mistake. The dress was paid for in full and there was nothing we could do.We've done a little more research on this company and have now found that they have an F from the BBB and that the owner has some less then reputable experiences with their accounting.

I loved how they let you shop around a little bit at the beginning of your appointment. A lot of places only allow the associate to bring dresses to you. They have a large selection of dresses to choose from, at a price range for everyone. All of the girls were very attentive and no one was pushy. The alterations department was also great. I was in and out in no time at both of my appointments. The ladies are very friendly and patient.

I bought my dress here but didn't get the alterations done here because I was getting married out of state. I loved my dress and it came in on time. My only complaint was that in order to just pick up my dress, I had to make an appointment with the alterations department. Whenever I called to make an appointment, no one would answer, I would leave messages and no one would call back. All I wanted to do was pick up my wedding dress which I had already paid for and wanted no alterations done. Seems like they could adopt a better system. But all in all, a good dress shop with a very wide selection and pretty good prices.

My dress and the bridesmaids' dresses that we picked out were beautiful, but the service was extremely HORRIBLE. The lady that waited on us was so rude and did not want to help at all. My matron of honor was going to be 7 months pregnant at the time of the wedding and they were sooo incredibly rude to her because of course she wasn't going to know exactly what size she would be at that time. I definitely would not recommend them to anyone in the future.

Overall, I would not recommend utilizing House of Brides for anything, especially your wedding dress. I had one opportunity to find a dress when my mom and (future) mother-in-law were in town so I didn't have much flexibility in looking at many places. Our salesperson was mediocre but ended up picking out the dress I eventually chose as *the* dress. The worst part about House of Brides came after I purchased the dress. I called to schedule my first fitting after I got the call that my dress was in. I was then ridiculed for scheduling the fitting "too early" even though that was AFTER the time that I was originally told to do it BY House of Brides. The older lady receptionist in Alterations is just plain miserable. She's mean, easily irritable and assumes you know everything that has to do with the whole, wedding dress process. I literally had to remind her a couple of times that this was the first time ever doing this, asking her to please cut me some slack. I had to ship my dress to MD, where I got married and House of Brides provided ZERO help. I understand they don't ship dresses, but it was like pulling teeth to gain even just a bit of advice on how to pack the dress and ship it properly and was even given a hard time about it multiple times by different staff. I was told on the phone that they would give me one of their dress boxes that I could ship it in. But again, it was so difficult getting the box once I got to the store. Also, they did a crappy job altering the dress! I didn't realize it (its hard to see when you're wearing the dress) but when I got to MD and tried it on again one last time for my mom, she noticed the bottom was uneven! I had to pay a lot of money to get it fixed just days before the wedding, causing me even more stress that I didn't need that close to the wedding. Finally, EVERY time I called, I was put on hold for at least 30min, often longer-no joke! Overall, House of Brides has a large selection of dresses but I would suggest staying as far away from this place as possible.
GUEST

I bought my wedding dress there, as well as my bridesmaid dresses. The receptionists were not friendly at all, but my bridal consultant was great. I think it depends on who you have as a consultant. Also, i was slightly disappointed that they never offered a cleaning option for brides when the wedding is over. Other places had. Their price for alterations was very pricey I thought. I LOVED my dress though and the lady in alterations is great!

I have heard horror stories about House of Brides and how terrible their service is and everything. However, I visited the Schaumburg location and had nothing but great service and had everything arrive on time. When I went for my bridal gown the woman helping me was very friendly and based on my comments as I tried on gowns, was able to pick out my final wedding dress. Without her help I would never have thought to try on the gown I bought. We also decided to meet with her for my 2 bridesmaids dresses and she was just as patient and helpful as before.I ordered my dress in April 2010, my wedding was June 24, 2011. My bridesmaids and wedding gowns all came in in February--just like they promised. I had paid $150 at the time of my bridal gown purchase for alterations and I'm glad I did. When I went in for my fittings, the prices were much higher and I only needed a few changes and my bustle done. The woman who did the alterations was so kind and funny.Overall I thought House of Brides offered a lot of selection and was able to get an extremely affordable dress that was beautiful.

I am so glad I went here because I found my dream dress! Lucy does a wonderful job and let me come back to try on my dress a million times. However, staff in general is cold. Seamstresses were also kind, but in general the attitude was not friendly. I wish I could have given my business to a warmer place, but I found my dress at HOB.
GUEST

When I went for my wedding dress found many dresses of all types and prices. Bought my gown there and everyone was very nice. Decided to have my bridesmaids purchase their dresses there, the staff the second time around was very unfriendly and we had to wait for long periods even with an appointment. A bit unsure if I would recommend them to anyone had a very good experience and a very unpleasant experience as well.
GUEST

A pretty good shopping experience. The girl that I was working with was nice. Not stand out service, but not bad. I did not have my dress altered here, though. I went with a recommendation from a family friend instead.

My wedding dress fell apart at my wedding- literally. The dress came apart from the zipper- it doesn't even look like there was any stitching. I left my wedding holding up my dress. It was embarrassing to say the least. I am so sick to my stomach over this matter.I have emailed HOB. They said to contact manager of store. I have left a message for Chris Richards last week and am STILL waiting for a call.

We chose to get the bridesmaid dresses here because we have had problems with David's bridal in the past. House of brides was just as bad!!! We ordered our dresse 6 months in advance and they came in a week and a half before the wedding. We called several times and they kept giving us the runaround, and were very rude!!
GUEST

Avoid this place! I ordered my dress, belt, and vail from them. The only thing that came in correct was the belt. My vail took a year to come in, and when it did, it was the wrong one and had a hole in it (and we had to argue with them to get a refund). They ordered my dress 2 sizes too small and then basically told me that I must have gained weight because they have never ordered the wrong size before (I had not gained a pound). The only good thing I can say about this place is that the women in Alterations are very nice and helpful and went out of their way to do a great job on my dress.

It's nice to know that friends and family of the bride are taken care of as well. My mom got her dress here for my fall wedding and she looked absolutely stunning the day of the wedding. She couldn't afford to order a dress and almost walked out when she had found "the one" so the saleslady sold her one off the rack for a deep discount. The alterations were also good savings where it's "1 price fits all" to get train hemmed, dress taken in, and straps done instead of piecing it out would have been hundreds just to fix what she needed. Very good experience with them!
GUEST

The birdesmaid dresses I got from HOB were really pretty. The main complaint I have is the measuring of my bridesmaids didn't match up well when we got the dresses. All of my bridesmaids had to have their dress altered because they were one size too big.
GUEST

I did not want to buy my dress at HOB, because of all the horror stories I had heard of. I just intended to go there to try on a ton of dresses and then buy the one I liked from a different store with a better reputation. But in the end, I fell in love with a dress that was on sale. After calling around to other shops that could order the same dress, none of them could match the low price. So I crossed my fingers, gave them a "fake" wedding date, and hoped for the best. I was very pleased how quickly my special order dress came in, but was very disappointed to find out that the size they recommended was WAY too big. The dress was "inalterable", but a family friend chopped the dress up and sewed it back together just to ensure I could wear it on the wedding day. She took it in SIX INCHES!!!! So if you do find a dress for a good price, I would recommend: giving them an early wedding date, order the size YOU think and not what they tell you, and do not believe them when they say you need to order bigger. They are just trying to get your business for alterations. Good Luck!

This review is for two items: Bridesmaid dresses and Mother of the Bride dress. I picked my bridesmaid dresses from House of Brides... loved the dress, color was not at all what they showed me when I ordered. Our color was a dark purple/plum and they where more bright purple than expected. Took forever for the dresses to come in after all 5 bridesmaids paid in full. Overall an ok experience... my consultant was not very good... at one point she called me and was down right rude and I almost hung up on her... but luckly it was easy to get her schedule and go to the store when she was off so we didnt have to deal with her. The second review was for the other of the Bride dress... wonderful, beautiful dress in a larger size... staff was helpful...ordered the wrong size and we ended up using the floor model but wonderful about everything, helpful, very nice people.

Love my dress. Was not a fan of the service. Our sales assistant was Linda, she was extremely nice and patient since I brought my family, his family and friends with me. She helped me get the dress of my dreams and rush order it. Calling in and getting a status and all of that was the horror part, I always got different dates and the lady is always out of the office. I have heard good and bad, but I fell in love with my dress.

The staff was awful! The dresses were beautiful and inexpensive- but I would not go there again! They didn't even verify my identity to pick up my wedding gown that was already paid in full. For all I know, anyone could have gone into their store and picked it up without my knowledge! I was very unhappy with the service, but LOVED my gown!!

My initial visit was great. When I was trying on dresses they seemed very eager. I came back for my second visit, this time it was to find my bridesmaid dresses. I decided to get the dress elsewhere since I had not found the style that i had wanted but decided to get the bridesmaids dresses here since my consultant had worked so hard and she seemed really nice. My consultant was good, slow in response but still got back to me in couple of days. But when my consultant was not there, the other ladies who could help, was not willing and very rude!
Also I asked them not to provide my phone number to other vendors and I do not want to be getting useless automated calls but of course that was not the case. I got three calls from an automated message from House of brides. I have called three times asking them to remove me, and finally it took that third time and talking to the manager to remove me from their phone list. And also have been getting calls for all sorts of wedding vendors on a daily basis.. asked them where they got my information and they said through other vendors and would not tell me. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PROVIDE YOUR PHONE # or House of Brides will provide your contact information to other vendors. I unfortunately had to give them my # since I mistakenly ordered my bm dresses from here. Only if I had known.
After the we ordered the dresses, I started having more issues. All four of my bridemaids paid for the dress and placed an order in November. End of December they call me and tell me they can't give me the color that I want, the sash color and it has to be one color. I tell them the only reason I went with the dress and House of Brides is because they had the sash color that I wanted. They tell me I can't get a refund since it is their manufacturers fault for not telling them. I talk to the manager and tell her this is unacceptable, their relationship with the manufacturer has nothing to do with me and I want a refund. She finally agrees to a discount price and tells me she will give the refund back to my bridemaids. It took 2 months for them to refund my bms their money. I had to call them on a weekly basis and everytime they said oh its not deposited yet, well call back at this time since the manager is not here. This went on for 2 months till they finally did it. This is the most unorganized ridiculous place.
Also instead of calling me to tell me the dresses arrived, they left a message to my bridesmaid saying it was ready. So I called them to verify and they said they tried calling me several times but could not get through, which does not make sense to me since when they called for order clarifications, it went through. This placed is the most unorganized place ever. don't understand how they even get business.
My advise to anybody looking for dresses, go somewhere else. This place is just not worth all the trouble.

I bought my bridesmaids dresses at house of brides in Schaumburg, Il.. Very happy with the help from Christina. She was professional, friendly and helpful. As for everyone else.... the service was terrible. I feel most of the staff there have a huge chip on their shoulders. They refused to send the dresses to the wedding my bridesmaids in NY even though we paid for shipping and handleing. I had to pick them up and ship them myself. Inconvient. The dresses were almost 3 sizes to big for all the girls, after I gave the proper measurements. Do yourself a favor... just do not shop here.

My first visit here for my bridesmaid dresses was great!! They had a sample of my bridesmaid gown I chose (Alfred Angelo, Style 7017), and the dress is perfect!! My bridal consultant was very nice, but also pushy.. Hoping to get a sale that day... But without all my bridesmaids, and still a ways off till my wedding, she said that we should have all bridesmaids together when placing the order so that the same dye is used...
My matron of honor came back a second time with me to get measured because she was trying for another child and wanted to make sure she had the option of sizes to choose from. When getting measured (took an amount of five minutes!! :) Which was awesome), our bridal consultant was trying to make my sister order the gown!! She said that it was MY fault for not understanding her, but once you get measured, you have to order the gown... We stormed out and spoke to a manager. The manager was very pleasant and told us that they can save the measurements under my file name.. And with that, assigned us a new bridal consultant. I have not met her yet, but my fiancee says she's very nice.

Thieves and liars are the worst kind of people in the world, and this House of Brides proved to be both. My wife ordered her dress in August 2009, and our wedding was in May 2010. House of Brides finally had her dress ready at the end of March 2010, and even then it was dirty and had to be cleaned on pick up. They originally had stated that it would be ready by the end of April 2010, which is outrageous considering their website and sales people at the time of the purchase stated that it would be ready no later that 4 months. What they also neglected to mention was that all sales are final, with no refunds, and once they have your money, good luck getting your dress on time without a fight. The only reason why House of Brides finally produced a dress was because we sicked the Better Business Bureau on them in March, then magically the wedding dress which they said could not possibly get in before April, was there the following week.Just do a Google search yourself for the nightmare stories about this crooked outfit. Their track record at the Better Business Bureau speaks for itself as well. Some brides never even got their dresses in time for their wedding day.And don't even get me started on the Bridesmaids dresses... had to have the BBB set them straight again. Alterations were just barely able to be made in time for the wedding. To summarize, the staff is compromised of unpleasant & unprofessional liars who are only out for your money, and could care less for your wedding day. Avoid House of Brides at all costs.

I went with House of Brides for dresses for my bridesmaids, and it was a mixed experience. I went with my maid of honor to try on dresses and select one and it was pretty intense with sooo many dresses to choose from. It was great to have so many options, but many were hard to get a good fit for because they were far too big or small. Ordering the dresses was a bit of a challenge (if your wedding is within 5 months I think you have to pay a rush fee). However, the dresses we ended up with were gorgeous! My girls looked great and the dresses were of good quality. If you have the patience to sift through their selection and the time to order dresses early, they would be a good choice.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!! My bridesmaids all purchased their gowns at HOB, Schaumburg, IL. They were treated poorly from the start! When I was in town to simply try on wedding gowns I was not given good service either. I was rushed, and huffed at, as if I was wasting their time. Which was the reason I didn't purchase my wedding gown there! The employees are rude, careless and all huddle around the front desk and gossip. Paying little or no attention to any guests or clients. I was never given a deadline date that my bridesmaids dresses had to all be ordered. I have obviously never been married before, and I look to the professionals to let me in on these details. However, I cannot say that one person at HOB is a professional. My bridesmaids had to get measured and pay for their dresses up front. When the dresses arrived, the girls were not asked if they would like to even try on their dresses. They were simply asked to sign for picking up the dreses and the attendant would walk away! How can a store have a No Return policy when they cannot even let you see if their product fits you! I do not see how anyone can rely on the opinions of their staff on taking measurements and using the size charts to order from these various designers, and they don't offer you to try on the dress! However, they do expect you to sign for it! Stating that the gown is what you wanted! One of my BM's was not measured correctly and her dress didn't fit her bust area. This was literally 3 weeks before my wedding. They said there was no time to rush order a dress and even thought it was their mistake in ordering the wrong size. They even offended my BM and told her she may have gained weight! They tried to deny up and down that they didn't measure her incorrectly. So we demanded that she get remeasured. When they remeasured her they tried saying her bust got bigger and waist got smaller! I want to know what diet is she on because every girl wants to be on the diet that she is on!! They ordered this bridesmaid a size 8, when even her very own wedding dress from 5 years ago was a size 10, and a bridesmaid dress from a recent wedding was a size 10. I have known this girl since high school and she has always been tall and thin. She literally hasn't changed in years. HOB never offered their apologies, only snotty responses. I wish the would have recognized that something was wrong, and offer to fix it! My BM even witnessed the employees having an argument and bickering in front of her. What kind of professional establishment allows their employees treat their customers so badly!!! I thought that the least they could do was alter the dress for free, when clearly the bust was measured incorrectly. Instead they made her pay for the alterations and ruined the detail on the side of the dress. Needless to say we had no time to complain since this was days before the wedding. We were happy that she could finally get her boobs in the dress to be able to walk down the aisle! I was a pretty calm bride, even with this happening and they still didn't offer any help or ideas? If I could give this place NEGATIVE stars I would! I have never been left to feel so helpless and treated so badly as I was days before my wedding.

Very accomidating and fast delivery. I always heard of horror stores about getting wrong sizes and so forth, but I am all the way oin clearwater, fl and everything turned out perfect. My dress was amazing and so were the bridesmaids.

Horrific bridesmaid dress experience. The sales associate attempted to get my bridesmaids to order dresses that were far too large for them… A size 6 for a girl who barely weighs 100 lbs, seriously. One of my bridesmaids even took the sample a size 8 off the rack to show the associate that it was too large. All my bridesmaids insisted on getting the size they felt they needed and still had to have them taken in once they FINALLY arrived. HOB gave me excuse after excuse for why they were not in yet… Every time I spoke with them they said they would be in next week. I called every week from the beginning of December until the first week of January. Same story every time. Said they were being shipped via boat (according to a friend in the industry she claims this is a stalling tactic). Finally my mother took over calling them. They were rude to her on numerous occasions. We received the dresses 1 ½ weeks before the wedding. After looking over reviews many people recommended lying to HOB about their wedding date so that the dresses would be in on time. I wish I had known that beforehand. None of the girls had their alterations done there. This was the only thing that went wrong during the wedding planning process. And, if you ask any of my other vendors I was an incredibly easy bride to deal with, so I don’t feel I was over reacting. I would avoid HOB like the plague.

I was so utterly disappointed by the rude customer service I received at HOB today. I am standing up in a friend's wedding who was told by the bridal consultant when she picked up dresses for the out of down girls 2 days ago that I could come in "anytime" to pick up my bridesmaid dress. I decided that today would work best. I live about an hour away, so I decided to go when they first opened so I didn't spend my entire day sitting in traffic.
I went online to check their hours and called to confirm the hours. Both locations informed me that they would be open at 10:00 today, so I gathered up my very small child and headed out arriving around 10:15.
The sign on the door said they opened at 10 today, and no one was at the store but it was unlocked so I waited about 15 minutes before asking someone at the tuxedo rental place in the same building when they would be arriving. He informed me that the store had changed their hours today so they open at noon. I was annoyed, but had already driven a long way so I hung around the area until just before 12.
At 11:50 I walked in the front door and there was a lady sitting at the reception desk as I approached. Before I even opened my mouth she said, "I'm sorry, we don't open until 12." Up until then, I had planned on just taking my dress and leaving without a word, but without looking at me or greeting me she started our encounter by telling me that she would not help me for another 10 minutes?!?! So I replied, "Actually, yes, I know that and I am pretty frustrated by it. Your on-line sources as well as your voicemail say you open at 10 on Fridays so I got here just after 10 to find out that you have changed your hours today, so I've spent the last 2 hours filling time in an unfamiliar area with a two-year-old on a day that I have many other things to do. I just need to pick up a bridesmaid dress, so if you wouldn't mind helping me a few minutes early it would be appreciated." (Now-to be truthful-I WAS frustrated so there was a hint of sarcasm to my tone...about a 3 on a scale of 0-10). She...without a hint of acknowledgment of my frustration...told me to write down my name and the brides name and disappeared.
A few minutes later, another woman appeared. I assume that she is not a salesperson because of her casual attire (including a nearly see through white t-shirt top). Without a hello or anything else, she said "what's the brides name" and I gave it to her. She turned around and arrived with the dress soon after. She handed it to me...did NOTHING to confirm that it was the right color, dress, or size and began to walk away. Now I'm fuming because all I want is for one of these ladies to recognize that they dropped the ball by not at least updating their voicemail to let those of us who do not live near know that they will be opening 2 full hours late so I said (now at a 7/10), "thanks for your apology regarding me having to wait around here forever this morning." She rolled her eyes at me, turned on one heel and walked away. I said after her, "excuse me, can I get your name?" I am 100% positive she heard me but she kept walking and turned the corner. So I followed after her and asked again. Ignoring me for a second time she turned down the hall where employee offices are, so this time I called out after her, "Excuse me, I need your name please." At this point she turned her head to the side, barely looking over her shoulder and replied, "Dusty."
Now, all I wanted from HOB was a recognition of my frustrations. A, "hey, we're sorry that you had to hang around here all morning, let us go get your dress." Instead the only words I got resembled, "I won't help you for 10 more minutes", "Write down the brides name", and after significant coaxing "Dusty".
HOB, you should be ashamed that your employees treat your guests with such disregard for their time and for their opinions. Recognition of dissatisfaction goes A LONG WAY towards customer service, as any person with an infant's amount of knowledge regarding customer satisfaction, referrals, and possibility of return will tell you.
Please, save yourself the time, frustration and effort...do not go here.

None of the girls here were friendly. It took forever to get the dresses in and even longer for alterations.

I got the dress of my dreams but i would NEVER set foot in that place again. First they ordered the wrong dress then they tried to charge me to get the new one faster, they called 2 days later that they had my dress and worst of all it came 3 weeks before my wedding so i had to pay extra for express altering.

I was very upset at all the "shananagans" that I had to deal with at HOB. I should have read the reviews first. Stay away from HOB and you will prevent a lot of stress.

I found the perfect bridal gown and bridesmaid dresses at House of Brides. The only issues I had were with the staff. Most of them seemed to not speak English very well and didn't always know what they were doing and made us wait around for hours when we were even there at a non-peak time! The prices they charge for alterations and extra fabric are outrageous! I would definitely go elsewhere for the tailoring! I had a pregnant bridesmaid who had to order an extra yard of fabric for her dress and they charged her almost as much as she paid for the dress for that extra yard of fabric! Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me!

I went to the Schaumburg location and worked with Mehti. I'm the type of bride that I don't like strangers helping or watching me dress / undress, or gush and try to sell me on something they think I like. So even though Mehti was helping several clients at the same time, I actually liked having the alone time to browse all the dresses myself and stare at the mirror to analyze the dress completely. Mehti was really nice and attentive with suggesting veil types to go with the dress or with keeping the dressing room neat and orderly. I was able to find my dress there and for a really great price. I found out after the fact that they have a website with cheaper prices, but their reason is that their website is a separate entity without personal service or store costs. So I was able to get a credit on my alterations instead to offset the costs somewhat. I think if I brought in the ad before I paid for the dress, I would have gotten the discount on the dress. When it was time for me to get a veil, this time, I brought in the ad and was able to bargain down the price. Overall, I still think I got a really great deal on my dress and veil. I ended up with alterations elsewhere to save money. My alterations were really minor so $300 for a bustle and sleeve adjustment just wasn't worth it for me. Oh and we put my wedding date one month earlier in the system, but my dress came in the store after 3 months! So quick compared to the 6 - 9 months estimate.

I got everything I needed here - my invitations, my dress, my bridesmaid dresses, and all the tuxes. They had the best and the widest selection of invitations and bridesmaid dresses. The wedding dresses were all very big sizes so it was hard for me to be drawn to them when they were on the hanger, but on my body was a different show. It was so much fun and so hassle free to work with all the vendors within House of Brides. The man working the tux shop made it easy for a not so picky bride to decide what 5 men were going to wear- I really needed his tasteful opinion. Go there if you don't feel like having your spotlight in 'Bridezillas'

They helped me find the perfect dress in one trip. Went to one other shop after and there was no comparison. They helped continuously pull dresses for me until I found the perfect one. After the dress was ordered, it arrived about 10 weeks before promised!! The alterations department was also amazing. They helped alter my dress to a perfect, comfortable fit - and did it in no time. They even cleaned and steamed my dress for no additional charge before the wedding!
GUEST

They had the dress of my dreams. What more can I say?

I had a pleasant experience at House of Brides. At times it was difficult to schedule an appointment with the alterations department (sometimes you have to leave a message, etc), but they were flexible to work with. On the whole, our experience with the alterations department was great and our dresses were beautiful!

I spent an afternoon in Schaumburg picking out bridesmaid dresses. First of all, I stated my price upfront. The saleswoman respected my price and never tried to "upsell" me on something more expensive.
Each bridesmaid was instructed to visit one of their many locations to get measured and place their order. One of my bridesmaids decided to lie to me and she said she was 3 sizes smaller than what she was measured for. I thought it was EXCELLENT customer service for that store to call me and inform me of this possible crisis. They said that ultimately, it is MY decision as the bride and I was able to order her the dress she was measured for.
The dresses came in in less time than I was told and they are all very beautiful!

I ordered my 5 bridesmaid's dresses from HOB over nine months before my wedding and was told there was plenty of time, no need for a rush order. I paid over $250 for each dress, in full, up front, and explained one dress had to be shipped to Arizona for alterations, as bridesmaid was attending college in Phoenix. I told them wedding was two weeks before actual date, figuring this would give me plenty of time to ship the dress and arrange for local alterations. Starting about eight weeks before the actual wedding, I stopped by and called repeatedly, only to be told not to come in again, they would notify me. Three weeks before the wedding I started checking every day. When I called in tears three days before the ACTUAL wedding date, I was advised dresses had finally come in, although the consultant yelled at me in front of the whole store, that they had been sitting at their dock over a week. Bridesmaid had to fly in early for alterations as there was no choice but to have HOB do the alterations due to the delay. She literally finished her final exams and boarded the plane for Chicago 2 hours later. One dress was ordered in a size 8, arrived as a size 2. Bridesmaid was a size 4. Dresses had a corset back and even though we loosened it as much as we could, I still couldn't get the zipper up!. Alterations were expensive. And the too small dress split down the back seam half way through the reception! Consultants are RUDE. Alterations staff are WORSE, like I purposely ordered the dress too small and waited until the last possible moment for alterations. They don't call, they don't follow up, wouldn't track the order, and every little thing is an added expense. All dresses were paid in full over nine months before the wedding, and there I was having to pick up the dresses the day before the wedding. I would suggest making your own dress out of a potato sack before you even try this place! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE.
GUEST

HORRIBLE experience. The sales associates are VERY rude. The salon is FILTHY with a very small selection of dresses. The dresses are also dirty and on average run about a size 12 - which makes it very difficult to try on if you are petite! The dresses are very disorganized and difficult to go through. I strongly DISCOURAGE anyone from going here.
GUEST

Yes the dresses are beautiful and affordable, but the service and professionalism stinks here. My accessories took over 9 months to come in, no one speaks English in the alterations department and the store is very cluttered.
GUEST

I purchased my vail and dress at House of Brides. They were very helpful, and I loved the quality of my dress!

We used two different locations and discovered that this company as a whole is bad. They sold me discontinued dresses for my bridesmaids then called me 5 weeks later on valentines day to tell me they won't be getting those dresses and I had to choose new ones. My mom also ordered her dress through a different store and her dress came in almost a month late (it arrived June 5 for my June 14 wedding) but was ordered in the wrong color. In both cases, House of Brides did nothing to correct the problem other than offering my mother her money back a week before my wedding without a dress after telling her the almost black brown would be fine for a wedding that the lightest color was lilac and they offered me my money back for the bridesmaid dresses, but since we were so close to the wedding date, I would have to pay a rush fee by going to any other store. So I ended up with dresses I didn't really care for, just because they would make it in time.
GUEST

If you can separate yourself from the beautiful dresses, leave and go to another bridal shop. The staff was rude, stuck-up, and not helpful. I tried on 14 wedding dresses before my consultant "checked back with me." They are over-priced, don't even provide you with a garment bag (which most bridal stores do) and their alterations are a minimum- 375.00
GUEST

House of Brides had the dress/ veil/ shoes I had dreamed of! I was VERY HAPPY with all their help!
GUEST

I would say House of Brides had the best selection in Schaumburg, but when they ordered my dress, they sent in measurements that were too short. When my dress arrived, it was about five inches from the ground. The attendants tried to convince me that a wedding dress is supposed to be that short, but it looked very awkward. We were able to send the dress back and have it altered, but it seemed to me that they were not really understanding of where a wedding dress is supposed to fall.
GUEST

Not happy with the staff at the House of Brides. Were rude and cold during wedding planning and bridesmaid dress selection. Could not tell me anything over the phone.
GUEST

Fantastic! I must have gone in 30x to show off! they really understand that its your special day!

First off, my dress came in about October (for January date) and I never received notice-so in December I was rather mad that it hasn’t come in yet so I called. They told me it was in since October and that I should have received a mailing which I never did. They thought they should not have called to let me know because they mailed something. After that fiasco, I only had 2 weeks for alterations which many were needed. When ordering the dress I was told that we needed the extra sizing (about $150) and when it came time for alterations my dress was at least 5 sizes too big (I even gained weight between the time it was ordered and the fitting)! It was about $375 for the extra alterations and the women doing the alterations were very uncooperative. They kept saying there was no time and we should just take it how it was. Needless to say, we had many arguments with them and my mom and I fought tooth and nail but got it the way we wanted.

Probably the most open to my questions and ideas. I tried on 30+ dresses in 40 minutes. The workers kept bringing more dresses to show me. It was a dream.

I, somehow, found a beautiful, perfect dress at House of Bride's, but the rest of my experience there was lacking. The store was kind of gross and all the dresses looked dingy and old. The woman assisting me was pushy and not helpful. They didn't call me when my dress was in, even when they had accidentally written down the wrong date and thought that my wedding was A MONTH earlier than it actually was. If you are looking for an inexpensive dress and are willing to put up with all the other junk, it was worth it.

I purchased my bridesmaids gowns from House of Brides. I purchased from them only because they carried the color of gown that I had my heart set on. My experience with the salon, however, was very impersonal. The Bill Levkoff gown that I selected came in my color and flattered the various body types of my bridesmaids- so that part was wonderful. At the store, however, I received minimal assistance, and had to flag down a consultant when I had questions. I had to do all of the work myself, as the sales staff was too busy to assist me in narrowing down my selection and figure out the color swatches for each dress. It wasn’t the staff’s fault, however, as there were 12 groups of women there, and only 2 sales people. Had I gone in there to buy my gown, I would’ve walked right out. Overall, my gowns came in on time. They did, however, recommend sizes for my bridesmaids that were too large, then pushed us to have alteration done on-site. Luckily my grandmother is an expert seamstress and was able to do them, so my bridesmaids didn't incur the extra costs of alterations.

My bridesmaid’s gowns were purchased from the House of Brides in Schaumburg. I chose this bridal salon, because we found the gown we wanted there, at the most inexpensive price. I have been a bridesmaid, and ordered gowns there a few times. Based on my experience with them in the past, I would have given this vendor 2-3 stars. But for my occasion, everything went smoothly. Two of my bridesmaids were pregnant at the time of my wedding and one had just had a baby. Although sizing was anticipated to be an issue, as would have been anywhere, the gowns looked great after alterations. The alterations department was efficient- my bridesmaids only had to go in for one fitting. Everything turned out beautifully.

The House of Brides in Schaumburg was one of only three or four places that I shopped for my wedding and bridesmaid's gowns. Charlotte, my consultant, was fabulous to work with. We were able to schedule appointments easily, and the process was simple. As a bonus, because we used other vendors in the House of Brides wedding mall, we received discounts. All of our gowns arrived on time and as ordered. I was very satisfied with my experience with this company.
GUEST

I ordered my dress from House of Brides online because the same dress in the store was almost twice the price. When it was delivered, it was below the quality I expected and when I called to ask about a replacement, they told me my 5 day window was up and I couldn't take any action with them. It all turned out fine in the end and the dress was beautiful, but they were very rude on the phone and the whole business about selling the dresses for 1/2 the price online is just ridiculous. Just be upfront and quit stealing money from uninformed brides.
GUEST

The dress was not even close to my measurements, tierra was falling apart, and absolutely rude and poor service. Beware!
GUEST

Went there just to look and they did a decent job...towards the end the sales person kind of "gave up" and was just showing me dresses that she liked. Good place if you want to try on a bunch of dresses and get an idea of what you like.
GUEST

My consultant was awesome. Keen into the detail we had. All the dresses came in early. Love it, though the alternations were a little much and not correctly done as suppose.
GUEST

The people at the front desk are always very nice, and the alterations woman knew what she was doing. Beyond that, this place is a wreck. They do have a large selection but the people who work there are wretched, horrible at getting back to you, and mean to your face. Our servicelady was very nice, but horrible unorganized. She was fired halfway through the process and all of our paperwork got confused. Thankfully our dresses turned out okay but I heard many arguments while I was there about other dresses NOT getting there in the right condition, on time, etc.
GUEST

Four words about this vendor: bad, bad, bad service. Starting from the person who answers the phone ending with the woman who makes appointments for alterations. We bought seven dresses from that place - one wedding and six bridesmaids gowns. Seven disappointed people. Not one person from my bridal party said a good thing about this place. Dresses were late coming in, and then most of them were too big, way too big. We strongly suspected that this was done on purpose to ensure that everyone had to pay extra for alterations. Some of the girls took their dresses elsewhere to be altered because they were very upset. Purchase of a wedding dress is a special time, and (hopefully) a once in a lifetime experience, so I would definitely not recommend this place.

My bridesmaids got their dresses here. The two of them each ordered different colored dresses in tea length. When we placed the ordered my sister and I filled out the payment form with our credit card number. The lady who helped us didn't know how to order the tea length dress, and said the manager would do it the next day.The next day I get a call saying they haven't received payment. I called and they lost our credit card numbers. Had no clue what happened to them. They never apologized for this, but I figured that mistakes can happen sometimes. I verify that each girl is getting a different color in tea length. My sister finds out that she's pregnant, so she goes back to look for a maternity dress. When she tells them what she needs, they look at her order and say, "oh, luckily we accidently ordered the floor length dress, so we'll be able to alter it to fit you!" This is where I start calling to verify the girls orders yet again. The seamstresses there are very good though, they did an excellent job making my sisters dress look beautiful-even though it was tea length when it arrived. I guess they can't read their own computers?
GUEST

They had the dress I wanted at a good price, but their alterations were too expensive.
GUEST

I needed a dress that didn't need to be ordered so I was looking off the rack. They had an ok selection, but some of the dresses were dirty and most of them were sample size 10 or higher. Thankfully I found a size 6 that was returned by someone prior to my visit and I was able to get the dress for a fraction of the original cost. They were able to alter it to my real size 1 and the dress looked perfect. The alterations were done there and I went in for 2 fittings and 1 final fitting. I would recomend them only if you didn't have much time.
GUEST

I heard many bad things about this place before I purchased my dress here, however, I did it anyway. I ended up getting my dress in plenty of time, and nothing was wrong. However, the service sucked. The woman that I was "assigned" to was very rude, and constantly acted like I was wasting her time (note: I drove 5 hours each way to visit this place 3 times to shop, buy and finally pick up my dress!). So I would not recommend my sales associate, however, the store itself had great prices, and my dress was gorgeous.
GUEST

We found the dress we wanted online at HOB and made the order. It was all as they said it would be. We got the dress ina very timely manner and it was of high quality and on time.

On a random Saturday afternoon of shopping with one of my sisters, we decided it was time for me to go try on gowns and we headed to House of Brides in Schaumburg. Before we knew it I had my gown picked out and paid for! Even better, it was on sale!
GUEST

I absolutely LOVE my dress--it was the very first one I tried on, and I KNEW it was the one. It was on the clearance rack, too which helped with pricing. However, the veil, tiara, and underskirt--while relatively on the lower end--cost as much as the dress did. The alterations were way too pricy--lucky for me, one of my close friends is also a seamstress, and she did the alterations for me. Trying to get an appointment or reach someone is a little difficult, and sometimes I felt like the saleslady would rather be doing other things than trying to help me.
GUEST

the dresses they carry are beautiful but they are a major pain to work with. beware and be careful! Give them a fake wedding date atleast 2 months prior to the real one, be aware of the costs of alterations, take control over the situation because those dress consultants are sharks. Shop from them at your own risk......if the dress you love is there then go for it, but be very careful with them.
GUEST

I had a good experience at house of brides. Helen was my sales lady and she was very helpful, patient, honest and accommodating. I ended up getting a fairly huge discount on a designer silk dress and matching veil because of a price quote I was given by another store and some haggling. Everyone, still to this day, comments on how georgeous my dress was. I did not get anything else from HOB as far as wedding attire. My bridesmaids dresses came from a different store entirely. I did not get alterations done here either due to a VERY BAD experience my sister had with her dress 2 months prior...they kept making her come back while she was away hours in school and studying for finals and other state exams. They did the wrong alterations and then didn't do some. They didn't fix the problem and my sister disputed the charges - but I don't believe she ever got a refund. She filed a BBB complaint against them. Just a few days before the wedding she rushed to one of my dad's coworker's homes in the city to have him alter the dress....thank heavens my father is a tailor and works with some great tailors that do wedding dresses. I took mine to another dress shop for alterations. I would not recommend them for alterations.
GUEST

I loved my dress---a bit pricey though. Bridesmaid dresses were about $160, and looking back it was a little too much for what they were. Sales persons helpful, sometimes aggressive. Way too pricey for tailoring--so we took our dresses elsewhere
GUEST

I loved this venue the day that I shopped with my girls! I was there all day and they were very accommodating!! When I got my dress, IT CAME WITH A HOLE IN IT!!! They told me it was made that way and that I would have to pay them to fix it!!! The wanted another $500.00 to fix the hole that they gave me! I ended up leaving with my 'holy' dress and taking it to an alterer and paying her $300 to take my dress apart and put it back together only 2 weeks before my wedding!!
GUEST

Horrible. My dress was a beautiful dress, till their tailor screwed it up...and they wouldn't fix it or replace it. I was stuck with a piss poor seam and a previously pretty dress. It was one of the only regrets I have from my entire wedding.
GUEST

They worked with me until I found the perfect dress. I also ordered my bridesmaid dresses & veil from this location, and was very pleased. All the dresses were in on time & we had no issues whatsoever.
GUEST

I bought my dress here with my mother in law. THe staff was very attentive and there was a wide selection
