Reviews for Huckleberry Karen Designs
Karen was an absolute pleasure to work with. During my planning process she was patient and very helpful. She was flexible with all my requests and changes to our proposal. The flowers she did for our wedding was beautiful. My bouquet as well as the bridesmaid bouquets was what I had asked for and the centerpieces for the reception was exactly what I had envisioned.
I would recommend Karen to anyone looking for a florist.
She's got a perfect 5 star average rating on yelp for a reason... Flawless execution, sweetheart personality, and won't break the bank. Huckleberry Karen is the bizzy bomb!
Here's my husband's review on Yelp:

Karen was our first vendor after our venue that we hired. I'm sooo happy we did. She is the easy going sweetheart that'll win any FI's heart. Ha ha ha ha! Funny thing my DH went in this meeting with "we can't spend that much money.. just remember". So he naturally put on his going to the car lot going to buy a discounted car face. Once we've met her we started to look at her portfolio on her flower design and she offered other decor ideas that pertains to my theme. I remember going through what we needed as far as flowers for the wedding party and you think we should've been done with the meeting. Nope.. Karen was so warm and personal DH started to open up to her like she was his lost long time friend. All of the sudden we got into this funny conversation about Costco. She broke down his game face wall and he like I think this is going to work out.
Through the wedding planning Karen was so flexible with me. I get one idea and ask her for a new proposal and bam it was in my email inbox. Then I change my mind and she would accomodate my idea and take my budget into perspective. Funny thing she never asked what it was but kept it in that budget range. Working with the budget standard DH gave me I did have my doubts with the results. But everything was BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! It was all that I dreamt of and more. The colors she went with fit perfectly to my needs and wants. She heard all my 10 personalities and was able to collab them into a beautiful design. Thanks Karen. Your knowledge, creativity, and friendly attitude will take you very far. Recommended!
So I officially hired Karen for my 8/29/09 wedding! She is so cool, flexible, and just so darn pleasant! She is incredible with budgets (and never once laughed or scoffed at me with my ridiculously low budget) and has been great with her communication through this whole process. I love that she doesn't try to overcharge you for every little thing (warning about other florists: paying $30+ for petals in a flower girl's basket is RIDICULOUS. Don't do it.). She also gave me her price list w/ranges and let me dictate how much I was comfortable paying for each item. Will update as I go but Karen is great so far!
I was excited to work with Karen from the moment we met her (more than a year before our wedding). She had a gorgeous portfolio and I knew from reading her blog and seeing the photos there that she'd be able to deliver on what I wanted - beautiful but simple, modern arrangements. Just as importantly, she's easy to work with and really friendly.
We planned the wedding from overseas so it was really important to find vendors that we could easily communicate with over email and that we could trust to execute on what we wanted with limited guidance. Karen definitely fit with our requirements.
The flowers for the wedding were perfect. I had provided Karen with some pictures and basic input on what we wanted and she executed it flawlessly. I was so impressed with the ceremony flowers that I couldn't stop staring at them and we've had so many compliments on the centerpieces, the bouquets, and the kermit mum pillow Karen made for the ring bearer.
I can't recommend Karen enough for her talent, personality, and also value.
Karen was AMAZING! She totally came through for me when I was a jam. We were going to use a friend, but through lack of communication (ON MY PART), he ended up being out of town the weekend of the wedding. I freaked out. How was I going to be able to find someone to do flowers for the wedding within 3 weeks to the date? Karen! That is how!
Even though she had another event that day, she said she would do the flowers as long as I could have someone pick them. Which was NOT A PROBLEM! The flowers were so beautiful, and everything I had ever wanted. I couldn't have been happier. Everything was beautiful!
In addition, she was just so easy to work with. I barely had to do anything... Oh wait, I don't think I did do anything! I filled out her worksheet so that she knew what I wanted (some weird little things that I wanted) and she sent me an itemized quote, which was a great way for me to see what I could or could not get rid of if my budget was over!
I would highly recommend working with her! And I can't wait to have another event that needs flowers!
Another perfect vendor. Our flowers were AMAZING. Peonies, dahlias, cala lilies, kermit mums, oh my!! Karen was a joy to work with. She totally got what we wanted from the very first meeting. I never even met with another florist- she was that great!! Highly recommend her.
Plus, you can't beat her prices!!
Karen is a miracle worker. At our first meeting I told her that I wanted peonies. I knew that Peonies had a really short season and that by mid July there probably wouldn't be a chance of them. However, on our wedding day, she told me she had a surprise. My bouquet had peonies! Hooray! In mid-July no less.
Karen is so easy to work with and has a ton of great ideas. She also did a fabulous job on the bridesmaids bouquets and the centerpieces. I can't thank Karen enough for all her work on our flowers.
Absolutely breathtaking designs. This is top of the line vendor of you can afford them :)
Karen was great to work with, very responsive and detail-oriented, and had a lot of helpful ideas and suggestions for me, as I was clueless about flowers. The end results were amazing, and we got a lot of compliments from the guests. Definitely recommended!
I was extremely happy with my flower. Karen was fabulous wot work with. She is so sweet and easy to communicate with. She did a fantastic job for an unbelievable price. she is so creative and fun to work with. I would highly recommend her.
Karen is my superhero. She wears a cape of beautiful flowers, and reads my mind when I make vague comments like "I like the dark red against the white dress."
In all seriousness, I was clueless about flowers. I gave her little to no direction, and just said I wanted to keep the budget low. She kept the budget low, created beautiful bouquets, centerpieces, and an arch for the ceremony, and everyone raved about the gorgeous flowers. (Me being at the top of the raving list.)
Point made. She is a superhero.
Karen. What can I say about Karen. Karen kept me on the ball with our flowers. I got so busy in the last month leading up to the wedding, I kind of wanted to throw florals out the window, but since my friends and I were DIY'ing the centerpieces for our wedding, Karen went out of her way to drag my lazy butt into her studio and show me, step by step, everything we needed to know to execute our centerpieces. Mind you, she did this out of the kindness of her heart, she insisted that it was part of her job, and that all she needed to do for me was to make floral buys at the market at cost for them. But thats the kind of vendor she was, every step of the way. She was genuinely concerned about our progress every step of the way, and delivered gorgeous, fresh bouquets and florals. I've already recommended Karen to lots of brides! But Karen really takes the extra step, not only delivering beautiful bouquets, but does it with a true passion for her clients and for their flowers!
I loved working with Karen for my 09/15/07 wedding from beginning to end. She helped me out with my invitations and flowers and all I can say is WOW. She was very helpful and attentive and totally worked with what I needed. As far as the flowers go I trusted Karen completely because I have no clue about flowers and boy did she deliver :) I was in awe the day of my wedding. My bouquet rocked and I loved how she used diffrent shades of pink for the bridesmaids bouquets. They totally went well with their dresses. There is nothing wrong I can say about Karen. She is fabulous!
Karen was sooooooo great to work with! She had many many helpful ideas and suggestions for me. The end results were amazing. She is very very organized. We got a lot of compliments from the guests. Highly recommended!
I took Karen's workshop for DIY flowers and really enjoyed it. She's very pleasant and relaxed and her helpers were knowledgeable and personable as well. And besides just enjoying it I got very practical, useful information.
During the workshop we got to actually handle the flowers and make a bouquet and boutineer that we could take home. I really like hands-on instruction and it's the the best way I think you can learn. Since the class the magazines and articles I've been reading make more sense.
I appreciate that she made me feel confident that I could do it, but didn't make it sound too simple, either. She had some strong words of caution which I will take to heart.
Karen did our ceremony flowers (arch, pommanders, petal aisle and placecard table arrangement). She also taught me how to do my own centerpieces (no small task since I've never worked with flowers before). We got so many compliments on all the flowers. Karen was so great to work with and incredibly sweet. I must have had a million random and silly question that Karen always politely answered. She was a huge help throughout the planning process (she also does great paper products like mongrams and invites) and really helped me figure out my vision (she wasd the voice of reason many times when I had lost it). I can't recommend her enough!
I love Karen! She is my favorite vendor to work with! I planned on making my own flowers but decided last minute to shop around for a florist. Karen was super helpful and was so flexible with me. She made the most lovely bouquets for my bridesmaids, awesome bouts for the guys and my bouquet was to die for! I highly recommend her.
We just took Karen's DIY Flower Workshop and I can't say enough good things about her! First of all, I think it's incredible that a florist of her reputation and skill would take time to share her skills with Bay Area brides who are on a budget and need to DIY flowers. That speaks volumes to the kind of person that she is -- skilled, confident, generous and kind. I know people have actually flown in to take these workshops, so I felt so lucky that my fiance and I were able to attend. Much to his delight, he wasn't the only guy there -- while the workshop was definitely bride and bridesmaid dominated, he was one of four guys. Everyone was made to feel welcome and comfortable.
In the workshop, Karen provided tons of beautiful roses, callas, orchids and hydrangeas for us in our wedding colors. Karen and her assistants taught us how to choose, store, care for, and process flowers and gave us tips on the best places to buy them in terms of quality and price. She and her assistant Caroline then taught us how to make gorgeous, elegant boutonnieres, corsages and bouquets, step-by-step. We left her workshop feeling so empowered and so excited to do our own flowers for our wedding! I learned so much and feel so confident now that I can create the flowers we really want for our wedding. We took pics of our finished products and sent them to our family members. They thought we were pulling their legs when we told them we had made them ourselves. They kept saying, "You're kidding! You couldn't have made those! Those look professional!"
For those brides who are looking to hire a florist, Huckleberry Karen would be a great choice. Just look at her sample work on her website and blog and you'll be amazed and so inspired. She's just extremely cool and nice, and encouraged us to email her at any time for help with our own wedding flowers. How great is that?!?! I wish I had the budget to hire her for all the flowers (and her prices are not that high -- it's just I'm very poor!). I'm going to recommend her to all of my friends getting married in the Bay Area! She's the BEST.
Karen did all my centerpieces!
Our photographer put some of our photos on his blog if you want to see
them. We are on a few entries but the most photos are after the
baseball game.

Karen is the best! She is extremely creative minded, very personable, and delivered more than we expected. I had some "different" ideas and she took them and ran with it. She found ways to carry out our theme in everything. She is well rounded in all that goes into a wedding and is a fantastic resource. I LOVED our bouquets and everything she did to go above and beyond. It doesn't get much better than her!
Karen did an AMAZING job on my wedding!!!!!!!!! She consulted with me prior to the wedding and talked everything out with me. She understood my ideas and had suggestions of other helpful ideas, as well. On the day of the wedding the flowers were exactly as we had discussed... but even more wonderful than I even imagined. The gift table, centerpieces, cocktail and bathroom arrangements and cake looked beautiful... and the monograms came out perfectly on the program and menus. Everything pulled together perfectly. I have since received so many compliments on Karen, not only as a person, but the job she did. If you want a woman who will be 100% reliable, creative and easy to work with, Karen is your girl!!!
Karen did a great job providing flowers for our wedding! The bouquets and ceremony flowers were beautiful (our reception site provided centerpieces), and Karen still managed to keep the budget low. Finally, Karen is very easy to work with - she is incredibly responsive and was very flexible whenever I had an odd request! I would highly recommend Karen.
It's hard to properly compliment Huckleberry Karen because everything that she created for our wedding was exactly what we had envisioned -- and yet, also elevated beyond that by her artistic creativity. She is a treasure, and it is to her credit that when we asked for florist recommendations from our other vendors, her name came up instantaneously, without a second thought! Working with Huckleberry Karen was wonderful. She is patient, calm, funny, and attentive. She is a good listener. She is timely and organized, calling us at important intervals during the timeline (without prompting) and also writing to us time & again with detailed explanations and beautiful photographs/illustrations. I (the bride) never worried about the flowers because I could rely on Karen -- she works hard and makes being the bride easy! Huckleberry Karen gave all our centerpieces, decorative pieces, and (most especially) our arch and bouquets that uniqueness, elegance, modern chic, and vibrancy that comes from highly expensive boutique florists. We envisoned an explosion of color and beauty for our wedding, and what we got in return was that and more. Huckleberry Karen works with the dedication of someone who truly loves her craft and cares about your wedding hopes.
I cannot rave enough about the quality of Karen’s work. During the planning phase of the floral elements for the ceremony and reception, she took my completely random ideas and made it into something that made sense. She was very responsive to all of my e-mails and never made me feel like I was asking a stupid question (and I know there was one or two in there). I felt completely comfortable leaving everything in her hands. There was an issue with the wholesaler she had ordered the centerpieces from - they only gave her 10 wheatgrass flats instead of the 20 we needed – but she called me right away and had several options prepared for me. Normally something like this would have sent me into a tailspin, but my calm reaction speaks volumes of the trust I have in her abilities. I knew that whatever she came up with was going to be perfect.
Seeing everything the day of the wedding was so rewarding. My bouquet and my bridesmaids’ bouquets were perfect. The bouts were perfect. The adorable flower girl pomanders were, yes, perfect. I had sent some navy polka dot ribbon to use to tie the pew buckets onto the pew ends at the church. Without even having to ask, she incorporated it into the BM bouquets and the FG pomanders, as well as the reception flowers. It helped tie together the theme of the wedding SO well in such a subtle way. Our guests kept coming up to us at the reception and raving about the centerpieces. In fact, all of the centerpieces were gone by the end of the reception! Our guests had taken them home with them (which is fantastic. I hate to see good flowers go to waste!).
Bottom line: Karen is amazing. If you can snag her, DO. She is the consummate professional and is incredibly talented. She deserves every rave she gets!
Karen designed our invitations and did all of our flowers for us. I cannot say enough good things about her and her work.
First, her work on our invitations and stationery was incredible - she created multiple designs for us to choose from, and she worked with us to create exactly what we wanted for our invitations. She also helped us find a great printer, and she was flexible and easy to work with. She has great communication as well - she was always responsive to emails and phone calls and flexible with her meeting schedule.
Second, her floral work is incredible. She created the bouquets and boutonnieres for us, and they were all beautiful. She worked with me and my fiance to create arrangements that complimented our style, our attire, and our wedding. She is extremely knowledgeable about floral arrangements, and she is SO creative. Her work is stylish, elegant, and refined. She listened to everything I wanted and worked hard to make sure that the flowers were PERFECT for the wedding.
I would recommend Huckleberry Karen Designs to every bride. Karen was one of my favorite vendors to work with, and she did a phenomenal job!
Absolutely amazing! We LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED all our flowers. We received countless compliments on everything. Karen is truly talented. On top of everything, she is probably one of the sweetest individuals you will ever come across.
Karen at Huckleberry Karen Designs comes a dime in a dozen. She's talented, creative, willing to try new things, and a visionary. I absolutely loved my bouquet - I brought Karen photos of my ideal wedding bouquet and groom's boutonniere and she delivered hands down! She works with brides who are on a budget too. And if you're a bride who feels that connecting with a vendor is important, then you must book an initial appointment/consultation with her - She's down to earth, easy going, and is very flexible with ideas. Hire her, you won't be disappointed!
AWE Struck are the ONLY words....that came to mind when we first entered City Club Saturday for Monya and Russ's reception and saw how incredibly beautiful not only the rooms itself looked, but also the centerpieces and fireplace!!
To say that ALL our flowers were drop dead gorgeous would be an understatement. When I first saw the bridal party flowers I looked at Monya and said "WOW.. are these not amazingly beautiful"... of course she agreed. When I delivered the flowers to the guys along with Zoey's pomander & Marta's wristlet, Garrett, their Officiant/Best Man told me he'd never seen such pretty flowers, especially Zoey's..that's huge coming from him since he's the "wedding whisperer" :)
I can't begin to tell you what it was like walking into City Club and seeing the centerpieces.. my jaw literally dropped, I was totally blown away, as was Russ (MY Russ!)... 110% elegance with simplicity! I can't tell you how many guests commented on the arrangements, let alone Alison (the City Club director of banquet planning). I was even called yesterday by a friend of a guest asking for your phone number for their daughter's wedding in Fall of 2009 and they haven't even sen pics yet! :)
Again thank you so much for making Monya and Russ's day EXTRA beautiful!
Fondly,
Claudia
Karen is such a doll! Her flowers always take the cake. We love it when our clients use her services because we always know that we'll be shooting the prettiest, most divine bouquets and table settings this side of the bay. She's got such a unique sense of style, the perfect little touches, and our brides love her work!
Karen was an absolute delight to work with on a recent wedding. She went above and beyond to help our client. I highly recommend her.

Genius Idea! A Mobile Bakery
My husband was cruising the streets in the Mission District in San Francisco and came across a truck called Sweet Ride. It's a mobile bakery that has all of the sweet goodies one could imagine. He of course thought of me since I love anything cute and small like cupcakes. He had some banana pudding and gave it a thumbs up and came home to tell me about it. Why he didn't buy me something is beyond me. Apparently, I still need to train him.
However, he does get points for sharing this with me because I can share it with all of you. How cool would it be to have Sweet Ride hang out in front of your wedding and serve your guests some dessert? Pretty sweet, I think.
And if you want to stalk them (like me) you can follow them on twitter to find out where they are hanging out!
Branches for Wedding Centerpieces 101
Most people don't even give a second thought to tree branches and what they have to offer. In fact, most people don't even consider tree branches at all when they think of flowers. But branches have so much versatility! The creative things you can use them for are endless.
You can showcase the branches alone by using flowering trees like cherry or crab apple, or go more elaborate by decorating the branches with orchids, crystals and candles. Branches are also a great and affordable way to add some height to an arrangement if you have tall ceilings. They have beautiful lines and you can definitely find a type of branch to suit your wedding style. Here are some common branches that designers use.
Curly Willow - Curly willow come in a variety of colors. The most common is green but you can also get them brown (dried) or white (stripped of their bark).

Here are some centerpieces using curly willow:

Mazanita: These are branches are very sturdy that can handle the weight of hanging candle votives and crystals. They naturally come in a dark chocolate brown color, but they can also be sand blasted to a light brown or white color.

Birch Branches: These branches are sturdy and straighter than curly willow. These are great for filling up space and come in a lot of varieties. You can learn more about birch branches here.

Centerpiece Ideas for birch branches:

Cherry Blossom Branches: These branches come ready to be used since they already have beautiful blossoms on them. Unfortunately, they are only in season late winter (January and February) for a short period of time.

Grapewood: You can design beautiful decorative displays with sandblasted grapewood branches. You can combine moss, grasses and succulents for a natural display. Calla lilies and orchids are also great flowers to pair with grapewood.

If you plan to use branches in any of your wedding decor be sure to ask what type of branches will be used. As you can see - there are many different options out there and you want to choose the ones that will fit with your wedding style.
