Isla del Sol Yacht & Country Club

My fiancé and I knew that we wanted our venue to have GORGEOUS views of the water since we decided to get married over in St. Pete. After looking at countless hotels on the beach, we hadn’t found what we were looking for because all their ballrooms had barely any water views and some didn’t even have windows. Then, we found Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club! The Grille Room (ceremony room) and Ballroom (reception room) have ceiling to floor windows with the most gorgeous views of the Boca Ciega Bay! We met with Alan Skipper, the director of catering, and were convinced that this was the venue for us. Alan is fun and creative and made us excited to have our ceremony and reception at Isla. We worked closely together over the next year, and Alan was professional and quick to respond to my emails and phone calls. He has been in this business for years and almost every single vendor(s) he recommended were phenomenal and we usually went with one of them. Our wedding was COMPLETELY AMAZING. It was so nice knowing that we were the only wedding of the day (at some of the hotels you’re 1 of 5 weddings taking place that day) and all attention and focus was on our event. The ceremony and reception room were absolutely gorgeous! The staff was all extremely professional and the food was delicious! Alan is very organized and even had a timeline to ensure the night went smoothly. We could not have asked for a more incredible wedding ceremony and reception and truly thank everyone at Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club for helping our vision become a reality. My husband and I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a private location with gorgeous views and a phenomenal staff!

I am the MOB(mother of the bride), and assisted my daughter and son-in-law with wedding plans as they reside out of town. We made our initial contact with Miranda, the event planner, but were notified that she had resigned and Alan Skipper had taken her place. He went above and beyond to meet our expectations! The wedding was relatively simple, but my daughter and her husband had some non-negotiable details that were carried out without question.We did not hire a wedding planner or coordinator, and Alan took care of all the details prior to, and the day of the rehearsal and the wedding with ease. He has years of experience in his field, and had MANY good ideas and suggestions. He and the staff, including Ryan and Matt, were present, but not intrusive, throughout the entire day and evening taking care of us.The guests RAVED about the food and the venue. We had a plated dinner that could have been served in a 5-star restaurant, and the service was flawless.Isla was a rare find in Pinellas County, the land of "wedding factories", where several weddings/receptions take place on the same day, or the Country Club members are present in the facility as well. We had the entire club to ourselves and it is spacious and stunningly beautiful. My daughter had her beach wedding without the loose, blowing sand and gawking beachgoers.The bride and groom both commented that their wedding was "perfect, we wouldn't change a thing". That pretty much says it all!

We had our rehearsal dinner and wedding at Isla del Sol Yacht and Country Club. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend the venue to future brides. I am very much a perfectionist. I take organization to an extreme and I am very detail oriented. I worked directly with Alan Skipper. He was very responsive to emails and phone calls. He did everything he could to accomodate my requests. Alan and the staff at Isla del Sol were very friendly. They all knew me and made sure I was taken care of. We were treated like royalty! We had our ceremony at the gazebo. The cocktail hour was by the pool and the reception was in the ballroom. The ballroom layout was perfect. The dance floor was big and was a perfect size for my 135 guests. The Club kept the air at the perfect temperature so we weren't too hot when we were dancing. The venue is large and the coordinators have to do a lot of running around. I recommend hiring a wedding planner for the rehearsal and the day of the event. Between my wedding planner and Alan Skipper, everything ran very smoothly. I was 100% relaxed and didn't have to worry about anything because I knew between my planner and Alan nothing would go unnoticed. The weather was perfect. The food was delicious. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I had the best wedding I could ever ask for thanks to Isla Del Sol. Alan Skipper makes the process so easy and seemless. He was also wonderful the day of the wedding as he kept everything structured and on time. The food there is absolutely amazing. Everyone that came to our wedding has been raving about the food and the wonderful time they had. I would recommend Isla Del Sol to anyone who wants the wedding of their dreams! It truly is breathtaking and amazing!!!

My wife and I were just recently married at the IDSYCC. First of all the facility and grounds are absolutely beautiful. The view over the water is amazing and looks even better at sunset. If this site had a quality of facility category I would rate it a 5 in that category. We had put down a deposit with Miranda and after a couple months later my wife was talking to a florist and was told Miranda quit. No one from the Club had called to notify her of this. My wife called to find out what was going on and it was nearly impossible to get ahold of the new coordinator (Alan Skipper). When she would get ahold of him it was always brief and he would say he is very busy and will contact us later. We arranged a meeting with Alan and when we all sat down my wife tried picking up where Miranda left off. Alan was very disorganized and did not even seem prepared to see us even though he knew we were meeting. The rest of the meeting my wife spent trying to fill Alan in on the ideas Miranda had. Alan proceeded to shoot down every idea and say it was impossible and the Club would not allow it. This of course was very frustrating for my wife as she had been given these ideas by Miranda who said they would not be a problem. From that point on it seemed Alan was determined to make things as difficult for us as possible and try and limit our ideas to what was convenient for him and cost the least amount of money for the Club. By this time it was too late to change venues and we were stuck. Alan and I talked privately and he did offer to refund our deposit but we had already notified guest where the wedding venue would be and it was only 3 or 4 months before the wedding. After Alan had done a few weddings he began to see that some of the things we wanted were now possible but by this time his initial attitude towards everything had already left a bad taste in our mouth. Fortunately on the day of the wedding he was much better except during the cake cutting he was no where to be found and no one was assisting my wife and I. Coincidentally he did not want us to cut the cake when we did so i'm sure he was protesting. The photographer stepped in and none of the guest even noticed the slight confusion. As far as the food goes, you will not find a better venue or caterer. The food was great and all of the guest had nothing but good things to say. It came out fast, was hot and tasted wonderful. I was not able to enjoy the hourdurves but I was told they were great as well. Aside from Alan the rest of the staff was great and very accommodating. This is why I rated the quality of service so high. It was also nice to have the entire place to ourselves unlike a wedding at a resort. I would recommend this venue however I would hire a wedding coordinator to deal with Alan. According to him the Club and the members tie his hands and he cannot do anything about it. It is a shame because this facility is so beautiful. In response to Alan's comment - The ideas we had were given to us by the previous wedding coordinator Miranda. She gave us a quote on what everything would cost and Miranda and my wife had come to an agreement. When Alan took over he wanted to change the agreement and charge more for services that Miranda had originally said would not be a problem and would not cost anything extra. As far as the attitude, I think anyone would be frustrated when you are told one thing by Miranda, we put a deposit down, then Alan tells us what we were told by Miranda could not be done. It was a difficult process but it was a great wedding. The Isla is a great facility for a wedding but as someone else stated in another review, hire a wedding coordinator to deal with Alan. Also you would think after dealing with me for almost a year he would know my name is Brent. :)

I used Isla del Sol Y & CC for my wedding venue. Alan Skipper, Director of Special Events did all the planning with me. He help me with a list of vendors for photos, flowers and even getting the special colors of linens for the tables. He did a great job! The menu and open bar was great. The wedding was a tropical theme so Chef Fredrick and Alan co-ordinated all the services to match, which included fresh seafood, mini sliders, topical fruits etc. Our guests were so pleased with everything including the entertainment they asked when were we getting married again. I would highly recommend this as a great place to get married and have the reception. The views of the water could not be better and the service from everyone was great!ThanksShirley Scarborough

First, I will say that Isla Del Sol is an absolutely beautiful, perfect location for a wedding! We used the beach for the ceremony, the ballroom for dinner, and the pool for dancing afterwards- all locations were beautiful, well maintained, and the guests LOVED the location. The food was also delicious. And it is nice to know that they only do one wedding each weekend, unlike most of the resorts in the area.The issues we had with Isla was the management. A few months before the wedding, the on-site coordinator (Miranda) quit and we simply stopped receiving communication. Noone called us or responded to our emails, and when we tried to call we got her voicemail (which noone was paying attention to). Finally the external Wedding Coordinator did some investigating and found out that Miranda had quit. Eventually a new person was hired for the job, Alan Skipper. Alan is a really nice guy, very outgoing and fun to be around....unfortunately, he lacks the professionalism I am used to. He was very unresponsive even in the weeks before the wedding - we did not have a final quote until the very last minute. He made a ton of mistakes on the proposal, most of which I caught. Attention to detail was absolutely terrible, and several things were not as planned. Luckily I'm a pretty laid back person and it didn't bother me much - everyone had a blast, the wedding was beautiful!So my advice: Isla is so beautiful that it is worth all of this headache, I believe. But you MUST hire an external wedding coordinator (Special Moments is GREAT) and pay very, very close attention to the details that matter to you!!! Follow up, follow up, follow up - be annoyingly persistant to make sure they are doing what you want!

I found the Isla Del Sol early on after becoming engaged back in 2006. There are so many beautiful places in St. Petersburg and surrounding areas to get married but there was something very special about this little peice of heaven. From the moment I saw the Gazebo on the beach to the backdrop of the yachts and the bay I was sold!! 3 years later, our Wedding day came on that beautiful Gazebo on the beach. There aren't enough words to thank Miranda for her devotion to me and my mother to make the day the absolute best! Miranda and my wedding planner, Tammy Waterman of Special Moments worked diligently together making it the most beautiful day for me and my Husband! The reception followed upstairs of the Country Club and it was beautiful! The food was great, our guest loved everything, expecially the Chocolate Fountain..:)Isla Del Sol & Miranda made our day personal. There are not 3 or 4 or 5 brides waiting in line to be married, you are the only one and the entire day is devoted to you in this gorgeous place with such breathtaking surroundings. Thank you so very much for all you did to make our day as beautiful as it was!!

Isla is a gorgeous venue and a great value for the money. The food was EXCELLENT, everyone raved about their meals. It was definitely not "country club/ reception rubber chicken." Miranda, the wedding coordinator, was so helpful and very eager in running things for you on your big day. I would highly recommend Isla for their personalized weddings and as a great alternative to the beach resorts if you want a beach wedding.

Rehearsal Dinner: What a gem! My coordinator recommended this place and we could not be happier. We had our Welcome Reception for all of our guests here on the pool deck. We saw a beautiful sunset, enjoyed amazing food and wonderful service! The folks there are incredible and friendly and extremely accommodating - easy to work with. I could definitely see some beautiful weddings here too!

Isla del Sol was a dream come true for my daughter's weddding! To have a private beach already set up for the perfect ceremony then a poolside reception was wonderful! The staff was fun, attentive, flexible and helpful. Donna was a delight to work with and saved me the expense of hiring a wedding coordinator. She had done hundreds of weddings and has such a calming effect for me. The food was wonderful and everything was set up beautifully! This is a fabulous facility which I highly reccommend.

We can't say enough about Alan and the rest of the staff and Isla del Sol. We love working there. Professional, friendly staff all in a beautiful setting.

Alan and his team are absolutely amazing. It is always a pleasure working at Isla Del Sol...as Alan's attention to detail and his clients are unquestionable. Every experience at Isla is CHIC & FABULOUS!

Alan is awesome! I have know him for many years and he puts his heart and soul in to every wedding/function that he coordinates. He really loves what he does and it shows! Isla Del Sol is an awesome venue and with his talents what could be any better??
