Where to begin. As soon as I saw Jake's photos, I was hooked. After meeting him, I was even more hooked. He's so easy-going, responsive, and got our vision right off the bat. Throughout the process, he was so quick to get back to emails, had great ideas, took our ideas and ran with them, and make us always feel like we were his only clients. He even gave me the name of his fiance, Ash, who does make-up and hair. He never pushed me to use her though. He shot awesome pics for our engagement shoot and was quick getting them to us. I eventually did contact Ash who was just as great to work with as Jake. Ash gave great ideas for my hair and the trial was so comfortable. She listened to me and what I wanted and was flexible and talented. They were awesome at coordinating the timing of everything for our wedding to make sure we got prep pictures, family pics, and couple's pics before the event as well. Likewise, the morning of, Jake arrived super early to scope out the area, hotel, and venue; Ash was on time at 8:30am, ready to go! They are a great team!!
Ash did my hair (which I changed from the trial) and adjusted without skipping a beat. She did my mom's makeup and sister's hair and made everyone look fabulous (and I am not an easy person to please most times). She stayed until I was in my dress and was a total pro the whole time, yet also warm and friendly.
As organized as I was, we were still running 45 minutes behind and we only had one hour for family photos and one hour for couple's photos. How he (and his assistant Maria) did it I cannot tell you, but we managed to get the family pics done and have a long, relaxing couple's session AND still made it to the venue 5-10 minutes before schedule. Nothing felt rushed either. He's stealth (like a ninja); everywhere at once, but also unnoticed, super creative, and he already got our previews to us, 3 days after our wedding! Everyone loved him at the wedding and the photos are gorgeous! Can't wait to see the rest!

He was also our witness at City Hall, NY. He was helpful and quick responding before, flexible with the dates. He made the day move, and everything was so natural. He was our family for 4 hours:))) Thank you Jake:)

We are beyond thrilled that we chose Jake to shoot our wedding day! Our wedding pictures are absolutely gorgeous, and exactly what we were hoping for. When setting out to pick a photographer it was very important to us that our photos would look natural instead of overly posed. Jake knows how to make a group of people feel extremely comfortable and at ease and was able to capture all the aspects of the day without anyone feeling like they had a wedding photographer in their face all day. Our wedding was Saturday 11/3 in Florham Park, so for most of the week we had no idea if our wedding was even going to take place because of Hurricane Sandy – miraculously none of our guests were severely impacted by the storm and amazingly all of our vendors had power (or generators!) so the wedding was a go. Jake had to deal with a gasoline shortage and travel restrictions in/out of Manhattan but he was there on time with a smile! Our second photographer wasn’t able to attend because of the Hurricane and while I was slightly disappointed at the time Jake wasn’t going to let that hinder picture taking – I have no idea how he did it, but I am pretty sure he did the work of about three or more photographers! Both of our parents commented in amazement to us during the wedding that Jake “was everywhere”. Our pictures absolutely reflect his dedication to making sure that he captured every single aspect and moment of our wedding day. I also had a crazy long list of pictures that I wanted taken (details, combinations of people etc.) and he definitely put a lot of effort into making sure he took those pictures. Thank you again Jake, we are extremely happy with our wedding pictures and have no idea how we’re going to narrow down our favorites into an album!!

Jake Murphy is a maker of beautiful memories. Whether Jake and I were storming the campus of Syracuse University, spring breaking on Duval Street, or tubing down the Battenkill, Jake and I have always been good friends who have shared many memories together. So when it came to choosing the person to document my most recent (and favorite) memory, my wedding, Jake was my first and only option.

On an autumn day in upstate New York, Jake managed to capture both small and giant moments of happiness. It was important for my fiance and I to have all of our guests and family members captured in their most authentic state, and boy, did Jake do just that. His pictures have a way of making those being photographed subjects of a piece of art rather than that of a person posed in a photograph. It is funny that my favorite pictures were those I wasn't even aware were being taken, and yet when I look at them now, I know exactly what I was thinking/laughing/crying/smiling about at that very moment.

I am very grateful for Jake's beautiful work, his dedication (the man shot for over 8 hours!) and most importantly, his friendship. I just wanted to say what an absolutely wonderful experience it was working with Jake for our wedding. Right from the get-go, he made us feel at ease and had such fantastic input (which was very welcome during a stressful wedding planning period!). The engagement session went great and was a nice way to get comfortable with his style and walk through how the day would progress. On our wedding day, it couldn't have gone more smoothly. Jake traveled a bit to the site, but was on time to wherever we had him planned! He went down our whole list of 'must-have' shots without a hitch. Everyone noticed and appreciated how laid-back and out of the way he was (not one of those typical 'in-your-face' types). When we got the pictures back (in just a month!), we were SO impressed with the results. Jake is so creative and captured the emotions of that day for us to remember forever. I can't speak highly enough of him and wish we could do it all over again!!

Jake was an excellent photographer. He is so nice and helpful. We love our engagement shots as well as the wedding pictures. They are beautiful and capture the moment. I keep going through and finding a new favorite. He really captured both us a couple and the event itself. All of our friends and family having fun. I would definitely suggest Jake to anyone in need of a wedding photographer.

Jake and his Fiance Ash did an amazing Job shooting our Wedding. I went to college with Jake (i had no idea he was even into Photography) and on facebook a few years later I started to see his page with different weddings he had been shooting and they looked awesome. I knew I wanted to have him for our wedding. Because I have known him from college and even though we had not spoken for years, it was nice to have a friendly face to glace over at throughout the wedding. He was always smiling, he knew when to calm me down, he knew when to make everyone laugh. Him and Ash worked great together. When i started to cry Ash came over and gently blotted under eyes as Jake told me to take my time... The preview came out great, everyone loves the pictures, including myself and my husband. My mom wrote in an email "Omg. These r great. Jake is very talented." We couldnt agree more. It was pleasure to see Jake after 6 years and to work with him. JBM was the perfect fit for our wedding. We knew going into the experience that we didn't want many (or any) posed photos - we wanted to enjoy the day, and we wanted a photographer who could honestly and artistically capture us doing so (in the most attractive way possible).. And that was Jake. We wanted to be photographed in a unique way, and weren't interested in a photographer who simply wanted to recreate pinterest photos, or a photographer who takes the same pictures of each wedding and wedding party. I wanted to have some input, but I really needed a photographer who could take control and handle the logistics of the day. With that wishlist in mind, we couldn't have been happier with our choice.

Our engagement session (long before our bridal showers/bachelor outings had started) gave us the first taste of how exciting our wedding day would be. I knew Jake was the best choice for us when he and his glorious mustache met us on the Brooklyn Heights promenade and he got us talking about how we got engaged. When he had my husband re-enact the proposal (something I'd normally find cheesy), I forgot Jake was even there. The pictures of how happy and in love we look on that day are so special to me, and I had total confidence our wedding photos would be the same.

On the day of our wedding, it was even better (naturally). Jake & Ash had scouted the location and planned some places to shoot, but they were flexible as well. They were easygoing and fun to be around, but could disappear into the background to photograph the special moments as well. The pictures of Aaron & I are incredible! And so are my memories of that wonderful hour we got to spend alone (with Jake) on our wedding day.

I absolutely recommend JBM's services. If anything, I wish we could have hired them for the whole wedding weekend!

This was our 50 th wedding anniversary at the church where we were originally married. The photographic results were extraordinary of both the Mass and the reception afterward. Wonderful shots in both color and B&W and from angles that seemed impossible. This photographer is so creative he is as much an artist as a photographer. Highly recommended.

Jacob was really nice and laid back. We felt comfortable with him. He seemed to genuinely be having a good time photographing us. He was also spontaneous; if something caught his eye he would take the picture. We were very happy with the end result, it was just the style we wanted (not too many posed pics). My husband and I could not be happier with our decision to chose you for our wedding day. You have such a positive attitude and a really hard work ethic. On the day of our wedding you arrived early with a big smile on your face - so ready and so excited to be capturing all of the moments of our special day. Your positivity and good energy put me and all of the bridesmaids at ease, and we were all very comfortable having you there capturing candid moments while we relaxed and got ready. The weather was terribly humid for our wedding day and I noticed that you worked up quite the sweat, but you never complained and never slowed down. I remember having to ask you to take breaks to get water/snacks etc because I was afraid you might faint! I want to thank you for taking your job as our photographer so seriously but also thank you for having so much fun with it - whenever I looked over at you, you were smiling and snapping away with your camera. Numerous wedding guests commented on how impressed they were with both your energy and your ability to capture moments from our ceremony and reception without getting in the way and distracting the guests from what was going on. Jake, you seemed to be everywhere at the right time, and went practically unnoticed by me and my guests as we celebrated our ceremony and reception that evening - you are basically a photography master ninja of sorts! :-) But, all joking aside, we got numerous compliments from our guests about how impressed they were with our photographer and how they were all so excited to see the end product of your hard work.
The preview album you provided us with some of your favorite shots from our day were beyond perfect. We noticed that from the collection you gave in the preview - every single picture told the story of our wedding in such a beautiful way. I had a long list of posed photographs we wanted - I have no idea how you were able to take all of them (very impressive) - but we also asked for candids to tell the story of our day. Now, any wedding photographer can take a posed photograph - they ask you and your guests to stand a certain way and smile... but it takes a true artist to also know how to capture the candid feelings of joy and love and those moments throughout the evening that make your wedding day special and unique to you and your partner. Jake, you know how to tell the story of a wedding and capture the raw emotion of the bride and groom and their guests better than any wedding photographer out there!! Out of the preview you gave us, none of the pictures you included were posed, all were candid, and all were absolutely beautiful. I don't know how you made our candids so perfectly beautiful - you have such a gift! During our wedding day, I took the time to take in certain moments and just enjoy all of the love in those moments - and somehow you were able to capture ALL of those special moments- and captured them so well. Looking through the photos I am able to relive the happiest day of my life over and over again - and I am so grafeful for that.
Friends and family that were not able to make it to the wedding have told me that after looking through the previewed JBM wedding photography photographs that they were brought to tears by the feelings of joy and love and saw the whole story of the day - and said that they truely felt as though they experienced the wedding first-hand through our photographs. We love love love Jake and Ash and their work. We cant thank Jake enough for capturing all the right moments on our special day. Jake is hands down a fantastic photographer. But more than that, he is a genuinely nice guy. He really helped make our day absolutely perfect and I couldnt be happier with how the pictures turned out. It has been nearly six months since Jake shot our New Year's Eve wedding. Although this review is hugely overdue, I come to it after attending two weddings since mine, and I feel like I can give an even more informed and positive review. In short Jake was a dream to work with, and I love every single photo he took.

Leading up to the wedding, it was very easy to communicate with Jake, both via email and phone. He was professional and easy-going. We even engaged in a bit of negotiating over the terms of his contract (in terms of how our pictures can be used) and his response and our discussions were very courteous and reasonable (and I think very fair as in the end we both got what we wanted).

I love that Jake sent us a form in advance of the wedding so I didn't have to run around on the day of the wedding telling him what pictures we wanted. Nevertheless, when, on the day of the wedding, I realized there were a few pictures I had forgotten, and I would run to Jake and tell him something I wanted, he always said, "Sure!"

For the two weddings I have been to in the last six months, I found the photographers intrusive and annoying. Why did they always stand right between me and my view of the cake cutting? Why did they run around with a giant bright light? Why did they make the bride and groom stay in these cheesy, unnatural poses to recreate events solely for the sake of the photographs? Jake did none of these things (although, I'm sure if you wanted to do any of these things, he would be happy to accommodate). His photojournalistic approach to shooting our wedding was the perfect balance between catching all the special moments without being rehearsed or staged. And he still caught every single unexpected moment at our wedding (when the music accidentally went on in the middle of the ceremony; my husband goofing off during the cake cutting).

Jake was also a super fun photographer to have at our wedding. Let's just say that a lot of our guests loved Jake. And he rolled right with it.

And the photos are amazing! In addition to the wedding photos, he managed to take some of the most scenic shots of our venue and the views from our venue.

My husband and I had Jake Murphy as our wedding photographer for our wedding of 200+ guests and we were beyond impressed! Even though it was just him, he never missed a beat. Not having to worry about whether my photgrapher would get the right photos on our big day was a huge relief. We had to change the address where he was to take photos twice, and he just went with it. Our wedding turned out just the way I imagined and Jake did an incredible job capturing our special day. We both knew Jake from college (in fact he was my freshman year RA) and when we were thinking about photographers for the wedding both of us immediately thought of him. He is great at capturing intimate candid moments and making you feel comfortable in front of the camera – not just us but with our family and friends too.

He captured every moment and was able to get them from every angle. It was hard to believe he was the only one shooting. The photos he produced were creative, unique and had amazing lighting. My favorite shot of the day was when he asked a store in SOHO if we could borrow their bright orange chair; the store said yes and Jake picked up the chair it put it right in the middle of the road. The photographs that came from me and my bridesmaids posing around it were by far everyone's favorites. I love how spontaneous he was that day.

I could not be happier with how everything turned out. I would recommend him to anyone I know that is getting married.

I found Jacob's photos through his project in India (dirt floors and stone walls), and decided to contact him to see if he could translate his incredible photojournalism into wedding photos. unbeknown to me at the time, he was also a professional wedding photographer...perfect!

Jacob shot our elopement in NYC with professionalism, honesty, a genuine enthusiasm for what he did. We simply could not recommend him high enough.

Jacob Murphy is a photography STAR! Jake was the photographer for our wedding in Central Park, July 30, 2011. Prior to the ceremony day, Jake asked for our thoughts on the feeling we would like in the photos: well, he surpassed our wildest dreams! What we love is how he captured every moment...and we did not even know he was taking the hundreds of shots....how he did it was amazing. And we love how Jake caught the reactions of our guests as they laughed and cried and were so full of joy! And our grand neice, Adele, was the center of many not-to-be forgotten photos....her radiant beauty was brilliantly photographed. When we were giving our vows, Jake caught every nuance, and the picture of our rings and the ring ceremony will always be among our favorites. My husband and I could not have been happier with the service that we received from Jake Murphy. Besides the fact that he made my husband and I look like naturals in front of the camera, Jake was able to make our wedding party and guests feel comfortable as he took their pictures, moving through the crowd with ease and without creating any distractions. The wedding day was the first time we met and it seemed as if he was an old friend. Immediately after the wedding, family and friends were commenting on how great he was, before they had even seen his finished product.
Jake was flexible and willing to work with us. We got married in a blizzard and he still took his equipment outside with a smile on his face and took great pictures. We realized that the wind had blown my husband's boutonniere off after we had gotten back inside the building, so he followed the groomsmen back into the snow to retrieve the flower, and took some great pictures doing so.
Overall, I could not be happier with the photographs. I love his candid approach to photography. Anyone can tell people where to stand, but it takes true talent to capture the essence of the event. Reviewing the photos has been a pleasure; I can't stop looking through them. I've also had many comments on them from people I barely know. Just two weeks after the wedding, I'd already had the opportunity to give his contact information to brides-to-be who have come across our photos. Jake Murphy is an excellent wedding photographer. He photographed everything from our wedding set-up to our rehearsal dinner, and took wonderful pictures of the day itself. His photos went beyond traditional wedding photography, and really captured the intangible spirit of the weekend. If you're able to book him for your wedding, you'll be very lucky indeed!

I am neurotic and both my new wife and myself insist on getting the absolute best. After tons and tons of hunting and weeding through photogs that were cheesey, overpriced, weird, etc etc... searching for a wedding photographer; we came across Jake. When you look at his work and meet him you will know almost immediately that he is premium- a talented, passionate, energetic, friendly guy. We had extremely high expectations going into our event, and these were exceeded by Jake (and that is not an exaggeration). He blended into the party, but somehow managed to take OVER 4000 PICTURES. He is a world-class photographer; and it was lucky for us to get him as our wedding photographer. His pictures are natural, never phoney or posed. We aren't bad looking people, but he made us look like we belonged in a bridal magazine. Jake and his photographs that we now have were without a doubt the highlight of our wedding!

Jacob served our wedding in a wonderful way. he not only covered all the actions going on that special day, but even more captured all the emotions. he is very special and supportive, and although you don't really feel him during that day, the photos are magnificent.
