Jake Melnick's Corner Tap

Jake Melnick's Corner Tap is a bar & grill located at the corner of Superior and Wabash in Chicago. This is certainly not a typical location for your standard wedding, but my husband and I wanted something a little different than a hotel ballroom, a country club, etc. I was unsure about Jake's at first, but when I began talking to their event coordinator, Gina Massery about the possibilities, she was very convincing. She and her staff bent over backwards for us and created the perfect atmosphere for our wedding reception. The food was incredible. We served 2 different salads, NY strip steak and salmon (our guests had a choice. We also had a vegetarian pasta offered), potatoes and vegetables, and Jake's signature dessert (a skillet chocolate chip cookie beneath a hot fudge sundae) all for the price of your standard chicken meal at many other venues in the area. We also had a dessert bar catered by the Hershey Store. Gina and her staff took care of coordinating everything with them. We just told her what we wanted and she coordinated everything. Because Jake's is a restaurant, they are used to serving nearly 200 people at the same time. Dinner ran smoothly and the staff was far from the unimpressive banquet hall waiters you've seen at so many weddings. The atmosphere is fun, laid back, and lends itself well to an excellent party where people are encouraged to drink up and have a good time. We served over 50 different kinds of beer along with call hard liquor and a variety of wines. People loved that. Most weddings don't have this kind of variety and we were shocked at what we got for the price. As far as value is concerned, this place is a deal for any bride and groom. When you consider the location, most venues would easily charge double what we paid for the quality, the atmosphere, and the space (we rented out the entire restaurant). While people admitted that they were confused why we chose this place, they completely understood once they stepped inside. This place is amazing and I highly recommend checking it out before you make any decisions about your reception venue. Our guests are still talking about what a great and memorable place it was to have a reception.
