GUEST

My only complaint about the fabulous James Hickey would be his pricing. Everything coast SO MUCH MONEY and it seemed as though everything we wanted was going to be just a little bit more. However, our pictures are gorgeous and we still get comments on them.
James is a beautiful photographer. Not only are his images gorgeous, but he has a sensitivity to what is important to his clients as well as the ability to adapt his style to their individual needs. Extremely flexible and cooperative, James is always ready to go the extra step to insure his couple's satisfaction.
About James Hickey Photography
Five, ten, or even twenty years after a wedding, the photographs of that day contain the wondrous emotions of bringing two people—and two families—together. This thought has been photographer James Hickey's prime motivator throughout a decade of capturing weddings on film: he wants the bride, groom, and their families to delight in his poignant images, not only in the present but over time.
Perhaps this is why he insists on dealing with clients in the most personal way possible. "I treat all my customers as if they were part of my extended family," James says. "That's how I like to do business. I believe in offering extras: perhaps attending the wedding rehearsal, sending personal cards, or providing other surprises. All of this allows me to really get to know the bride and groom."
James' hands-on, familial approach has been fine-tuned in the ten years he has run his own studio with the help of his wife, Monika. She lends a hand with the day-to-day operations of the business, designs the studio's one-of-a-kind wedding albums, and invariably puts people at ease. "When we came over to talk with them about the wedding, Monika had baked cookies," recalls one bride. "Their homey welcome made it that much more relaxing to discuss plans for our wedding photos."
James' easygoing charm and rapport with clients makes him a natural for the often-demanding job of wedding photographer. He started his photographic career at a prominent L.A. studio, but it wasn't until he began shooting weddings that he found his true calling. James' passion for the biz, plus his sense of humor under pressure, has made him a favorite among wedding planners. "James is number one on our preferred photographers list," says a coordinator from a local country club. "He's gentle, kind and funny, AND he has a great sense of style and artistic vision."
The distinctive look of James' photos combines traditional portraiture with journalistic storytelling. He always takes several classic portraits of each bride and groom, utilizing light and shadow to maximum effect. Naturalism is important to him, yet he doesn't hesitate to reach into his bag of photographic tricks to enhance a beautiful location or an exquisite dress. And he has an instinct for recognizing unconventional photographic opportunities. "James comes up with great ideas," says one bride. "At our wedding, he had us sit on a city bench on a busy street, which resulted in some fun and interesting shots."
"We wanted something traditional and artsy for our wedding photos," says another satisfied bride. "James was a good combination of those two qualities for us. Plus his images are unique, while so much bridal photography looks the same."
"James' work speaks for itself, but with him it's so much more than just the pictures," says one colleague. "He can really make people feel warm and fuzzy." At one wedding, after the festivities had wound down, James suggested a final spur-of-the-moment shot—just his kind of creative extra—that ended up being really special to the newlyweds. "Before James left, he took us outside," recounts the bride. "He had timed it perfectly: the sunset was spectacular and that picture became my absolute favorite."
