Reviews for Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores
I've been a crafter all my life so I've been going to JoAnn's for years. However it wasn't until recently that I found out that if they are out of a product, you can have them special order it for you. Takes about 2 weeks, but I've used this on everything from cardstock to silk flowers. Its a great feature if something is on sale, and they don't have the quanty that you want in store, you still get the sale price as long as you pay when you order. They can even order seasonal items if there is enough in the warehouse. Plus you can never go wrong with the coupons. I find them to be much cheaper than the Michael's around here.
I must have gone to Jo-Ann about a dozen times now, because there's always something for me to buy there that I can use for wedding planning. From styrofoam, to silk flowers, to craft punches, to fabric, you need it, they most likely have it. Be sure to sign up on their mailing list because they send out coupons every week. I've almost never had to pay full price for anything because of those coupons. I only go to the super store in Fremont, California, because the other local ones are kinda cluttered and disorganized.
Joann's is a good place for cheap fabrics. Pros would be cheap and accessible (they're a chain = everywhere). Con would be limited selection. Britex in SF is the place to go when you can't find what you want.
If you sign up for their mailing list, they will send a lot of 40% and 50% coupons off a single regularly priced item. This is good if you know in advance what you need and you can buy a little each time with each coupon or make copies of the coupon and keep going back. They send coupons to you through the mail and email. With the email coupons you can print several times.
Although I got a lot of coupons from them, I never found what I needed at JoAnn's because the Mountain View and Sunnyvale stores were a complete mess and they were always out of stock. I wasn't looking for fabrics but for materials to make my programs, etc. I suppose if you're looking for fabrics then the coupons would be very useful.
I love joanns! I get all my fabrics from here and they have so much selection. It's convenient because without joanns, i'd have to go all the way to san francisco to go to britex or something.
I didn't start going here until I started my wedding planning, but they have a lot of really great deals here. I was impressed with there sales to, it made it much more economical (esp with the 40% off coupons!)
We bought cardstock here that I used to make my ceremony programs that I designed myself. They turned out super cute and we saved a lot of money doing them this way!
We decided to make the veil and we knew that Joann fabrics was the only place to go! They had everything we needed included the metal comb. Staff wasn't very helpful but we figured it all out!
Got a xyron machine from Joann's that I absolutely love. You can make stickers, magnets, laminate things....it came in handy since I made all of our STD's and invitations. Remember to sign up on their mailing list so that you can get the coupons in the mail. They send them out so often it doesn't make sense to buy anything without one!
Joanns has a great selection of wedding stuff for the ceremony and the reception and they even have really cute things for the bachelorette party! Great store to shop at!
I bought all sorts of things at Joanns..... paper for our programs.... shaped scrap booking scissors. Wedding favors for the bridal party... my FAVORITE Joann find was in the summer clearance section. I found "Plant holders" for gardens. We used them to line the backyard and strung Christmas lights from them. they held the lights perfectly - and also kept everyone out of the flower beds. HOW ROMANTIC! We got little tea light holders and citronella candles too - everything was such a bargain. We saved SO much.
JoAnn's always has a 40% off coupon in their mail inserts. Subscribe to their mailing list and you can buy your favors bit by bit at a great deal. We got bubbles, ribbon, and jam jars at 10 cents to 25 cents each. Best of all we got lovely clearanced wedding vines and flowers for about $1 each. We decorate the whole huge church and gave nice favors to over 150 guests for about $100 total. Also check here for good deals on veils, tiaras, flower baskets, and ring pillows.
The reception venue I think I am going to go with is perfect expect of the water marked ceiling. So my mother and I are going to cover it with orange and yellow tulle with bought. The staff were extremely helpful.
We bought a pattern for a little dress for our flower girl from Joann Fabric and got the materials and everything for under $30! It was a really easy pattern and then we did it ourselves instead of paying $200 for a dress she would outgrow over the summer. Very worth-while if you are any good at sewing.
This store is a treasure trove of wonderful and reasonable items that can help the day go smoothly and everyone look great! They know their stuff!
When we received our Invitations, they were nice, but not great. I decided that it needed some extra "bling" to really make it nice, so I went to Jo-Ann and picked up some rhinestones and thin ribbons to add. I put the rhinestones on half the invitations, and the ribbons on the other half (didn't want to overload the invitations). The items definitely spruced the invitations up! I really love Jo-Ann and can always find what I am looking for at a really great price!
bought muslin here to make sachets of lavender... the associates are always helpful and willing to offer suggestions. great sales - keep an eye on their ad for great coupons.
We got do it yourself invitations from Joanns and I LOVED our invitations. We got to incorporate my wedding colors and it was so easy to do. We were able to spend more money in other places because that helped us save a lot.

They had clearance invitations so all my invitations i got for like $30.00!!! I have also gotten fabric for my ring bear pillow and my flower girl basket.
Our wedding was very much DIY! If it was able to be done by myself, I did it! We were able to save some money, which was great for our pockets and definitely made our wedding more personal.
My mom got these cute little bags for the party favors, which were candy coated almonds (by the way, one of the greatest thing to get for favors, people LOVED them!!) They were sort of a close knit mesh bag with little ribbon ties.
Great store. Another store that I make excuses to go to. I got my fabric to make my bride's maid dresses. I also got my invitations and more flowers there. Awesome place!
Instead of doing real flowers you can very easily do all of your flowers that look great. I found all of my flowers on 60% off and spent only $40 for my entire party's flowers.
DIY invitation kits at Joann's are fantastic! They have a nice selection and great prices. I used 40% off coupons to buy mine and made 150 invites for just around $60!
each location of joann fabrics has a VERY different array of bridal items. One near my office in Allen Park, MI has lots of good invitation kits available to print your invitations at home, and also kits for the wedding-day programmes.
They have boxes and bags for putting favors in, and I bought a package of favor boxes to see how they work, and they don't stay closed properly. :(
I also bought an iron-on rhinestone appliquee and tee shirt for my maid of honor saying "maid of honor". The bothersome thing is that the corresponding "Bridesmaid" appliquee was all sold out and I don't know where to go to get it.
Joann typically puts out a flier every week with a 40% off coupon for one regular-priced item. Howevery, I typically forget it at home the day I plan to go to Joann.
On Weekend days Fri-Sat-Sun when they have special sales, the lines are REALLY long, and they don't make any effort to add more cashiers to deal with the long lines. In fact, long lines are a problem all week, and at all times of day.
o-Ann Fabrics has everything you could need for making your own wedding invitations. I made my own and got everything there in one stop -- card stock, colored and print papers, ribbons, beads, glues, wire . . . everything. This was a great place for a small budget and a small wedding. I think that larger weddings (100+ guests) will cost less in materials if you purchase in bulk, to this would not be the place for those people.
I found tropical flower garland for $2.00 a piece and some plates, napkins and items for the kids to play with at the reception.
I buy from here the candles for my tables at reception. They nice.
They have a huge selection of bridal favors! They have the do it yourself, of the ones you just add candy too! I thought mine turned out great!
We bought tulle from Joann.com for decorating the hall. We got a really good price and then were able to use a 40% off coupon. I plan on selling it on ebay.
I found these beautiful burgundy and green votive holders at Jo-Ann, and I knew I had to have them for our wedding! The bonus was that they were on sale at 75% off their retail price! The only thing was that they didn't have the amount of votive holders that I wanted, so they were nice enough to call around to other stores to see who had what in stock. I had to visit like 5 stores to basically clean them all out, but it was well worth it! Plus, I put simple votives in them, which I also got at Jo-Ann on sale!
Jo-Ann had a lot of selection for crafts like the programs and other things that were needed. It was very easy and they had a lot of selection on paper and other decorative items for the wedding and reception.
I was very particular about making sure my bridesmaids would be able to wear their dresses again. I went and found the beautiful black satin fabric from Jo-Anns and gave them three yards each. Then, they were allowed to design their own. So, I had six girls in completely different style dresses that fit their personality perfectly AND they were comfortable. My girls loved the idea! The only thing about my girls is that they were each very creative individuals that I trusted designing dresses. In the end I only gave them two guidlines. 1) The dresses had to be floor length and 2) The had to have some sort of straps up top (so they would not be pulling at them during the ceremony) It was such a wonderful surprise to see how beautiful each of them looked on the day of the ceremony.
We are having a fall themed wedding, so we bought silk leaf flowers to put together, instead of flower bouquets.
Great deals on fabrics and patterns. I found the type of fabric I wanted for a reasonable price. They also send out 1/2 off coupons if you are on their mailing list.
I highly recommend getting cheap $1 candle holders and tealights for a December wedding. I wrote a little note in our program that each family was welcome to take one as our thank-you for attending. It was cost-effective by combining decor and the favors.
Ok so for organza ribbon in almost any color, go here, unless you know of a discount fabric store in your area. Also, I found a beautiful rubber stamp to embelish my invitations with here! Take advantage of the coupons that come in the mail, and also the Jo-Anns in my area honors Michael's Stores coupons!!! They also have some wedding invitaton stationary as well.
These guys have everything to make the perfect invitations if you are trying to save money. I spent about $50 total to make 250 invitations. No joke. They have paper, stencils, colored envelopes, printing, I could not believe what they had to offer. I know you can always buy amazing invitations, but if you are on a budjet JoAnne's have everything you need to make your invitations look professionally done.
I got my invitations at Joann's and printed them myself!! I had many people tell me, "your invitations are the MOST BEAUTIFUL ones I have ever seen!!!"
If you are on a budget and are doing DIY centerpieces and/or favors, JoAnn's is the way to go. They have everything you will need at great prices.
I loved JoAnns. I made my own wedding invitations and they had everything I needed. I also decorated the trellis myself and they let me order a whole bolt of the fabric I needed for the decorations and they gave me a discount. I'm now using the fabric for curtains in our new home. For being a retail place they were really friendly and helped me figure out exactly what I needed for the invitations.
This is a great store to buy embellishments & ribbons.
Not very happy with the service....I had a naked cake!
My flowers didn't really hold up for the entire night, and she didn't send the topper for the wedding cake, so a girlfriend had to rip apart a centerpiece for decorating it. But by then my photographer had already taken a picture of a naked cake. We had both came upon a design that I wanted for my maid of honor's boquet, but I guess she didn't want to do it that way...and my MOH got a different arrangment without the special flowers in it that I ordered. Every time I drive past the place I seethe. My mother in law wanted me to go in and get a refund for the flowers not delivered, but I told her since she paid she can do it! She also screwed up a girlfriends wedding flowers the previous month, but we didn't realize that we had hired the same lady until after my wedding. I would have run...
I bought all of my centerpieces at this craft store. The store workers really help, all you have to do is ask. Price match is a plus!
In my opinion, this retailer is much more helpful then its competition. My fiance and I wanted to make some our own favors because we couldnt find a store that created exactly what we wanted. Here they rtuly helpe me throughteh pro's and con's of different techniques, and even recomneded other stores that might help us on our path as well!
Everyone there was so friendly! Any time we had a question some one always there to find us anwsers!
I am a do-it yourselfer, and let me tell you, this place is fabulous. i was able to get the hundreds of fake roses I needed to make these rose balls that I wanted for like $25! Which if I bought them, it would have been hundreds and they are gorgeous! Plus, they helped me call all of the stores in my area to track down the amount that I needed even though they were discontinued. Wonderful!
Because we got married just out of college, the wedding was on a budget--especially for expensive "extras." I made my dress from a Vogue pattern and a beautiful bridal material selection from Joann Fabrics. Though I have some experience with sewing, the dress was much easier than it looked, and I didn't have to spend and arm and a leg to get exactly what I wanted.
It has many different items to choose from, there are always coupons and deals. It has a variety of choices and I love to go there.
I enjoy making everything personal, and with my wedding there was no exeption. The people at Joanne's helped me find everything i needed to make favors and collages. Even helped me with ideas to make my dress more my own.
